Open and Bridged Intermediates 2. The Occurence of Bridged Intermediates in the Bromination of Norbornene DerivativesIn the exo-bromination of the norbornene-endo,cis-dicarboxylates 3 the rate determining and the product determining steps occur one after another. The kinetic and stereochemical experiments are best explained by the non classical ion 6 as an intermediate. Methyl groups in position 7 prevent the development of the three-membered ring and the radical bromination successfully competes with the ionic reaction.

Bei der exo-Bromierung der Norbornen-endo,cis-dicarbonsäurederivate 3 treten der geschwindigkeitsbestimmende und der produktbestimmende Schritt zeitlich nacheinander auf. Für die Zwischenstufe wird aus kinetischen und stereochemischen Daten das nicht-klassische Ion 6 wahrscheinlich gemacht. Verhindern 7-ständige Methylgruppen die Ausbildung des dreigliedrigen Ringes, dann konkurriert die radikalische Bromanlagerung an die Olefine erfolgreich mit dem Ionenangriff.
