Model Investigations on the Mechanism of the Osazone Reaction, II2,3-Dihydroxy-3-phenyl- (1) and 2-hydroxy 3-phenylpropanal (13a) behave completely different against derivatives of hydrazine. Whilst 1 yields only the phenylhydrazone 2a and difficultly the α,β-bis(methylphenylhydrazono)propiopheone (6), 13a reacts very easily to the corresponding osazones 15a- c. It is tried to discuss these different reactivities on the basis of Weygand′s mechanism.

2,3-Dihydroxy-3-phenyl- (1) und 2-Hydroxy-3-phenylpropanal (13a) verhalten sich völlig verschieden gegenüber Hydrazin-Derivaten. Während 1 nur zum Phenylhydrazon 2a und nur schwer zum α,β-Bis(methyiphenythydrazono)propiophenon (6) reagiert, bildet 13a sehr leicht die entsprechenden Osazone 15a - c. Diese unterschiedlichen Reaktivitäten werden auf der Basis der mechanistischen Vorstellungen von Weygand gedeutet.
