Description / Table of Contents:
The Disproportionation of Arylsemicarbazides1-Arylsemicarbazides, when activated with strong electron donating substituents in o- or p-position, are disproportionated by acids to form quinone imines and ureas. Dependent on their substitution the quinone imines are either hydrolized or they oxidize a second molecule of semicarbazide. This reaction shows specific acid catalysis and is of first order in H⊕ ions and semicarbazide. - Similarities to the disproportionation of hydrazobenzenes and to the osazone reaction are discussed.
Notes:
