Carbonsäurechloride reagieren mit Mono- sowie Diäthanolamin unter Bildung der entsprechenden Carbonsäureamide, während in Gegenwart von Pyridin die Reaktion weitergeht und auch die Veresterung der OH-Gruppen erfolgt. Triäthanolamin bildet mit Carbon-säurechloriden in Gegenwart von Pyridin naturgemäß nur Triäthanol-amin-tricarbonsäureester.
