Significant advancement in science and technology may come from various sources, but mainly from two: -the accidental and unexpected discovery of new phenomena e.g. electricity, radioactivity, superconductivity, disintegration (splitting) of the atomic nucleus-the formulation and development of new principles which guide us to the synthesis and application of new and particularly useful polymeric systems.Along the lines of the second source, interesting and significant progress has been made during the last two decades. This brief introduction attempts to sketch the origin and development of this progress.
