Notes:
The common methods for measuring Monod half-velocity coefficients are reviewed. All methods have serious disadvantages for obtaining rapid and accurate measurements whether batch-fed or continuous-fed systems are used. An “infinite dilution” technique is described that overcomes these difficulties. Data obtained by this method for autotrophic oxidation of NO2- and NH4+gave 20°C, pH 7.0, K3 values of 0.07 mg NO2--N/liter and 0.50 mg NH4±N/liter, respectively.
