Notes:
Measurements have been made of the simultaneous rates of transfer of acetone and benzene between a liquid film and a turbulent three component gas mixture. The measurements were made in a wetted-wall column with both mixtures of acetone, benzene and nitrogen, and acetone, benzene and helium. As predicted by the equations of Part I the mass transfer differs qualitatively as well as quantitatively from mass transfer in the corresponding binary system in which one component is stagnant. In several experiments acetone was transferred from low to high concentrations in accord with the predictions. Both the ternary film and Prandtl-Taylor models satisfactorily predict the rates of transfer of acetone and benzene, and, except possibly for very high Reynolds numbers, the simpler film model is recommended.
