The cheapness of modern minicomputers coupled with the need for rapid and accurate output of X-ray fluorescence analytical data makes the use of computers almost obligatory. The minicomputer has the advantages of immediate availability of results over other methods. In laboratories with an annual output of less than 10 000 determinations the on-line card -punch or magnetic-tape reader coupled through a terminal to a central computer is equally effective though slower.
