Notes: A detailed analysis of the electron impact induced fragmentation of ethene and propene dithioketals of cyclobutanone is presented. The tetradeuterio analog of the cyclic dithioketals was prepared as an aid in analyzing the fragmentation patterns. Cleavage of the 1,3-dithiolane ring system is favored at 15 eV, whereas cyclobutane ring cleavage is favored at 70 eV. Thus, the primary fragmentation pathway seems to be dependent upon the ionization energy.
