Nach dem niedersächsischen Naturschutzgesetz sollen 30.000 ha Abbauflächen renaturiert werden. Aktuell wurden auf 6.500 ha Maßnahmen zur Herrichtung zum Abschluß gebracht. Nach weitestgehender Beendigung des Weißtorfabbaues stehen demnächst meist nur Schwarztorfflächen zur Renaturierung an. Zur Wiedervernässung dieser Flächen ist ein zeitlich begrenzter Überstau unerläßlich. Probleme treten bei der Vemässung von Hochmoor-Restblöcken auf.

The aim of the nature conservation law of Lower Saxony is the renaturation of 30,000 ha of industrially cut-over raised bogs. The restoration of cut-over bogs is finished on 6,500 ha until today. After mostly finishing the cutting of slightly humified peat the cutting of highly decomposed peat areas have to restore in the future only. A temporary inundation is necessary if you want to rewett such an area. The rewetting of bog remnants in form of blocks is a new problem.
