Ein kleineres Hochmoor in Niedersachsen soll als Deponiefläche für Klärschlamm der Stadt Hannover verwendet werden. Eine örtliche Bürgerinitiative protestiert gegen die moorzerstörende Planung. Durch Einsatz naturkundlicher Daten und eine geschickte Öffentlichkeitsarbeit gelingt es, die Landesregierung zum Votum gegen die Deponiepläne zu gewinnen und ein Naturschutzgebiet einzurichten. Die gute spontane Regeneration des durch Handtorfstich abgetorften Hochmoores ist ein wesentliches Argument für die Sicherstellung.

A plan existed to use a small raised bog in Lower Saxony for the deposition of waste-water sludge from Hannover. Inhabitants of villages adjacent to the bog opposed this plan which, when realized, would have caused the devastation of the bog. Using scientific data and giving their aims publicity they called forth the rejection of this plan by the Government and the establishment of a nature reserve. The spontaneously renewed growth of the vegetation in this raised bog in which over a long period peat had been cut by hand, is an essential argument for its preservation.
