Description:
Recent phylogenetic studies have agreed that the Snow Partridge Lerwa lerwa and
the Blood Pheasant Ithaginis cruentus should be placed in Phasianinae as the successive sister
taxa to all other members of this clade. We suggest that each of these species should be
recognized as a separate tribe. The family‐group name Lerwini von Boetticher, 1939 is here
resurrected for Lerwa lerwa. We also show that the family‐group name Ithagininae Wolters,
1976, is unavailable for Ithaginis cruentus. We therefore describe a new family‐group name
Ithaginini.
