    Die politische Ökonomie der „Überflüssigen“ (2024)

    Description: Jakob Graf wirft in diesem Open-Access-Buch die Frage auf, wie sozialökologische Konflikte am Rande der Weltwirtschaft soziologisch verstanden werden können. Dabei zeigt er, dass gerade in durch Rohstoffausbeutung gekennzeichneten Ländern des Globalen Südens große Teile der Erwerbstätigen nicht mittels Lohnarbeit in den globalen Kapitalismus integriert werden. Aus Sicht der kapitalistischen Weltwirtschaft sind große Teile der weltweiten Armen vielmehr „überflüssig“. Der Autor zeigt, dass diese Menschen allerdings nicht einfach „arbeitslos“, sondern vielfach wirtschaftlich aktiv sind; sie tragen in entscheidendem Maße zum Überleben der Menschen in ärmeren Ländern bei. Wie aus dem Widerspruch zwischen diesen lokalen „bedarfsökonomischen“ Aktivitäten und der kapitalistischen Wirtschaft sozialökologische Konflikte entstehen, verdeutlicht Graf am Beispiel der indigenen Mapuche im Süden Chiles. Diese setzen sich gegen die Expansion der industriellen Forstwirtschaft zur Wehr, die für die Weltmärkte in riesigen Forstplantagen Zellstoff produziert. Als historisch "Enteignete" kämpfen die Mapuche für die Wiederaneignung ihres Landes und ihrer Ressourcen. Graf analysiert die Funktionsweise derartiger Konflikte, er fragt, wie sich die soziale Gruppe der „Überflüssigen“ soziologisch verstehen lässt.

    Description: Colombia ha enfrentado una historia de violencia y desigualdad, con líderes asesinados, masacres y abusos perpetrados por grupos paramilitares, guerrillas y fuerzas estatales. Un ejemplo reciente son las manifestaciones del paro nacional a finales de abril de 2021, surgidas por el aumento de impuestos de productos esenciales y que fueron marcadas por la brutal represión policial. La violencia y despojo de tierras han sido experiencias cotidianas en la vida de muchos colombianos, particularmente en las zonas rurales y empobrecidas. En este libro, Eduardo Restrepo argumenta que la desigualdad y violencia en Colombia están arraigadas en un orden moral jerarquizado que produce existencias »dispensables«, marcadas por el desprecio y la indiferencia. Aunque el análisis se centra en ese país, sugiere que esta dinámica también puede ser relevante en otros países de América Latina. Restrepo aboga por la importancia de un compromiso ético-político en la elaboración de narrativas más comprensivas sobre los problemas sociales y las luchas por el cambio.

    Description: El cine constituye una poderosa herramienta cultural que opera de múltiples maneras en el rescate de memorias, así como en la reparación colectiva y conceptualización interdisciplinaria de experiencias traumáticas en comunidades devastadas por sistemáticas violaciones a sus derechos fundamentales. Hace perceptibles las prolongaciones de silenciadas o legitimadas violencias políticas tanto en el individuo como en el tejido social trastornado por perturbadoras marcas que desbaratan la existencia y la convivencia. Las expresiones cinematográficas no hacen referencia al ayer únicamente, sino que, sobre todo, cuestionan las pautas convencionales empleadas para articular pasado, presente y futuro a fin de explorar horizontes posibles. Como detonadoras de memoria y generadoras de conciencia, robustecen diferentes modi memorandi que tratan el pasado violento demasiado activo aún.

Durante siglos el uso del Yo, como voz referencial de autor fue una entidad privilegiada mediante relatos impresos elaborados por los propios protagonistas mientras se daba por sentado que el resto de vidas solo merecían permanecer confinadas en ámbitos estrictamente privados por ser consideradas vacías, vulgares, irrelevantes, dignas de ínfima atención pública. Gerardo Cham aborda los casos de tres autores y a una autora, cuyas narrativas testimoniales tuvieron gran difusión desde que fueron escritas: Olaudah Equiano, Mary Prince, Juan Francisco Manzano y Mahomma Gardo Baquaqua.

    Description: Im 19. und frühen 20. Jahrhundert wanderten zahlreiche Personen aus Europa nach Lateinamerika aus. So ließen sich auch viele Menschen aus dem deutschsprachigen Gebiet und aus Ländern mit anderen germanischen Sprachen, etwa aus den Niederlanden oder aus Skandinavien, dort nieder. In Teilen haben sich Sprachgemeinschaften bis heute erhalten können. Der vorliegende Band widmet sich solchen Gemeinschaften, die heute Sprachminderheiten darstellen. In zwölf Beiträgen werden hoch- und niederdeutsche Sprachgemeinschaften sowie die dänische Sprachgemeinschaft in Argentinien in den Blick genommen. Dabei werden auch methodische Fortschritte – z.B. durch den Aufbau von Korpora – und neue Forschungsansätze durch Einbindung mehrsprachiger, didaktischer oder ökonomischer Perspektiven aufgezeigt.

    Description: Este libro es un ensayo extendido sobre las dinámicas de desarrollo y resistencia desatadas por los avances del extractivismo, una forma de capitalismo que se caracteriza por una crisis multidimensional de alcance global. El extractivismo toma diversas formas, pero el epicentro en su más reciente encarnación es América Latina. La región ha sido el principal blanco de sus impactos socioecológicos negativos, pero también el escenario de las fuerzas más poderosas de resistencia. El autor aborda tres dimensiones críticas de este proceso, incluyendo la nueva geoeconomía y geopolítica del capital, las resistencias en la frontera extractiva y las alternativas propuestas por los gobiernos formados en el »ciclo progresista« en la política, y construidos desde abajo por las comunidades indígenas y no indígenas en la frontera. Finalmente, cierra con una reflexión sobre la posibilidad de una transición postextractivista a un otro mundo de solidaridad social y armonía con la naturaleza, en condiciones de justicia social y ecológica.

    Description: Abordar la existencia de unas clases medias negras en Colombia no sólo es difícil sino un aparente contrasentido, un oxímoron, porque la gente negra es imaginada como inevitablemente pobre y de »clase baja«. Pero ¿acaso no existen otras experiencias de clase dentro de esta población? Para responder al vacío investigativo sobre este grupo social este libro examina la configuración de las clases medias negras desde finales de los años treinta del siglo xx, a partir de las historias de vida de miembros de tres generaciones de familias originarias de la región del Pacífico y el Caribe que se identifican como parte de esta clase. Esta indagación se hace desde una perspectiva interseccional, que asume que no se puede entender el funcionamiento de las relaciones de poder que dan forma a estas experiencias desde un solo marco explicativo (de clase, género o raza), y que para hacerlo se deben considerar sus mutuas interrelaciones y afectaciones.

A la vez, propone nuevas perspectivas en tiempos de crisis de la categoría: la pregunta central es ¿qué significa hoy lo popular? La relación entre las culturas populares y la cultura de masas ha cambiado radicalmente en este siglo, de un modo que los textos clásicos no podían prever. La cultura de masas se ha transformado en el gran organizador y jerarquizador cultural; pero las culturas populares siguen señalando en América Latina un exceso, algo que persiste fuera de lo mediático. Y lo que permanece inalterable, aunque con ropajes siempre renovados, es la desigualdad material y simbólica. Aunque cada vez cuesta más hablar de el pueblo, lo que permanece es la jerarquización, la discriminación, la subalternidad - de clase, de etnia, de raza, de género-, la invisibilización, el silencio. Todos los espacios donde, tercamente, habla lo popular.

    Description: There are numerous popular myths concerning Hispanic America in German and Austrian textbooks from the first decade of the 21st century, and thus there is a big gap between historical narratives in textbooks and the scientific historical discourse. An analysis of textbooks from four centuries shows, that some of the myths were introduced into the textbooks in the twentieth century – for example the “myth of the flat earth” of medieval times. The myths relating to Hispanic America and the images and assumptions they conveyed were important to many different groups throughout history, became incorporated into collective memory and were uncritically incorporated into German and Austrian textbooks.
    Description: Das Thema Hispanoamerika ist in deutschen und österreichischen Geschichtsschulbüchern aus dem ersten Jahrzehnt des 21. Jahrhunderts massiv von populären Geschichtsmythen geprägt, was eine große Kluft zwischen Schulbuchdiskurs und Fachwissenschaft zur Folge hat. Teilweise gelangten die Mythen - wie beispielsweise die Erzählung über die von Kolumbus überwundene vermeintlich flache Erde des Mittelalters - erst im 20. Jahrhundert in die Lehrwerke, was anhand einer Analyse von Schulbüchern aus vier Jahrhunderten gezeigt werden kann. Die Mythen zu Hispanoamerika und ihre verschiedenen Basisannahmen waren für verschiedene Kollektive im Laufe der Geschichte wichtige Tradierungsbedürfnisse, wurden Teil des kollektiven Bewusstseins und unhinterfragt in deutsche und österreichische Schulbücher übernommen.

En estos espacios, donde florecía la comunicación horizontal y multi-clasista, el concepto de utopías menores de Jay Winter es apropiado. Este ensayo toma inspiración de esa obra importante de Winter, rastreando lo que él llama las »visiones de transformación parcial«, que coexistían temporalmente con las grandes narrativas de transformación social, pero después perdieron su lugar propio en el record histórico. Trabajadores agrícolas en Chinandega, minifundistas en Morazán, y obreros fabriles en Montevideo, en medio de graves crisis sociales-económicas y políticas conquistaron espacios para defenderse, pero también de crear nuevas relaciones sociales y una experiencia de trabajo colectiva y libertadora.

Wie diese Intensivierung der Beziehungen zwischen Russland und drei Ländern Lateinamerikas – Ecuador, Kuba und Brasilien – zustande kam, untersucht die Studie anhand eines multidimensionalen geopolitischen Ansatzes. Basierend auf Erkenntnissen aus der praktischen Politik und akademischen Arbeiten liefert die Autorin eine Definition für das bis dato vage Konzept ‚strategische Partnerschaft‘ und zeichnet mithilfe einer prozessorientierten Methode die Entwicklung dieser Partnerschaften im Zeitraum 1992-2017 nach.; Russia returned to Latin America, former President Medvedev said in 2010. The study uses a multidimensional geopolitical approach to examine how this intensification of relations between Russia and three Latin American countries, Ecuador, Cuba and Brazil, came about. Based on findings from practical politics and academic work, the author provides a definition of the hitherto vague concept of 'strategic partnership' and traces the development of these partnerships in the period 1992-2017 using a process-oriented method.

    Description: En el contexto de la profunda crisis civilizatoria que vive la humanidad, se da igualmente una severa crisis de las izquierdas en diferentes partes del mundo. Las propuestas alternativas que fueron representadas por los denominados gobiernos progresistas en América Latina, en lo fundamental, fracasaron en términos de los objetivos que se transformadores que se propusieron. La incapacidad de la izquierda »oficial« para reflexionar crítica y autocríticamente sobre estas experiencias impide aprender de éstas, con lo cual no puede sino profundizarse la crisis de dicha izquierda como alternativa al capitalismo y, más ampliamente, a civilización en crisis.

    Description: Has the quality of life of indigenous peoples in Latin America improved after three decades in which legislation has been built that recognizes them? Statistical information and the increase in social conflict in indigenous territories leads to a negative answer to this question. This essay is a critical reflection on the exhaustion of the multicultural moment in Latin America from the dialogue with the critical thinking that has emerged from the movements themselves, especially from activists and intellectuals who denounce the relationship between recognition policies and extractivist capitalism, resisting the colonialist images that these policies reproduce because they deny the historicity and political potential of their peoples.
    Description: ¿Ha mejorado la calidad de vida de los pueblos indígenas en América Latina luego de tres décadas en las que se ha construido una legislación que los reconoce? La información estadística y el aumento de la conflictividad social en los territorios indígenas conduce a responder negativamente esa interrogante. Este ensayo es una reflexión crítica sobre el agotamiento del momento multicultural en América Latina a partir del diálogo con el pensamiento crítico que ha surgido de los propios movimientos, especialmente de activistas e intelectuales que denuncian la relación que existe entre políticas de reconocimiento y capitalismo extractivista, resistiéndose a las imágenes colonialistas que esas políticas reproducen por cuanto niegan la historicidad y el potencial político de sus pueblos.

    Description: In contemporary societies we see a state of social inequality as in the old regime: the accumulation of wealth in 1% of the population, multimillionaires as presidents, the increase in luxury consumption, the emergence of a culture of distinction, as well as the concentration of the earth and the spatial segregation. To understand these phenomena in a coherent interpretative framework, this essay proposes the hypothesis that in the early 21st century we are experiencing a new combination of refeudalization at the global level, but with specific regional features. In Latin America, this concept is particularly useful for understanding the return of the right to power after a period of leftist governments.
    Description: En las sociedades contemporáneas constatamos un estado de desigualdad social como en el viejo régimen: la acumulación de la riqueza en el 1% de la población, multimillonarios como presidentes, el aumento en el consumo de lujo, el surgimiento de una cultura de distinción, así como la concentración de la tierra y la segregación espacial. Para comprender estos fenómenos en un marco interpretativo coherente, este ensayo plantea la hipótesis de que en el temprano siglo XXI vivimos una nueva combinación de refeudalización a nivel global, pero con rasgos regionales específicos. En América Latina este concepto es particularmente útil para entender el regreso de la derecha al poder después de una época de gobiernos de izquierda.
