    Description: Considéré longtemps comme une grave faute, l'anachronisme a été réévalué pour en souligner les dimensions heuristiques. Acte délibéré ou involontaire, l’anachronisme peut ouvrir la voie aussi bien à une relecture du passé qu’à une réinterprétation du présent, nous permettant de repenser la « marche des temps » (Siegfried Kracauer) et de se pencher autrement sur les rapports que nous établissons à la fois avec le présent d’où écrit l’auteur, avec le passé que cet auteur réinvestit et avec le présent d’où nous lisons ses textes. L’objet de cet ouvrage est une revalorisation de l'anachronisme dont nous montrons aussi bien le potentiel poïétique que la dimension heuristique et interprétative de l’anachronisme en littérature. Cervantès, Camões, Chateaubriand, Gautier, Flaubert, Rimbaud Laforgue, Queneau, Perrault, Peter Handke, Thiéfaine, Pasolini, Jacques Demy, Kennely, Thomas Ostermeier, témoignent ici du potentiel poétique des « anachronismes créateurs ».

    Description: Vulcano, Sicily 1964. After a meeting with him in Cortona, Helle Busacca, a poet and writer from Messina, began drafting an epistolary diary dedicated to Corrado Pavolini, a well-known intellectual and film director of Tuscan origins with whom she had been in love for over twenty years. Through the so far unpublished pages she dedicated to “una storia senza storia” (“a story without history"), the writer brings to life an incandescent theatre of the self, in which the dramatization of personal experience, the self-representative elaboration and the expression of a living and restless inner self combine in a mixture of strongly hybrid characters, which is conveyed by a disruptive communicative force. As the desperately pursued interlocutor becomes increasingly evanescent and unreachable, the voice of a modern tragic heroine emerges unmistakably between claim and confession.

    Description: In light of the dramatic events which have been shocking Ukraine since November 2013, this work’s itinerary aims at functioning as a basis for the formulation of new contact points, for a dialogue between traditions and cultures which nowadays are again being shaken by the events of history. The author examines the self-identification paths of the literary phenomenon of Russian language in Ukraine. With the help of interviews with important representatives of the Ukrainian Russian-speaking literary scene, made on the eve of the so-called 'Ukrainian crisis', the author shall closely observe the origins of the marginal nature of these 'post-Soviet hybrid narratives'.

    Description: This book, the result of a lengthy labour of cataloguing and research, continues the indexing and recording of the unpublished epistolary material conserved in the Dessí fond, launched in 2003 by Chiara Andrei with the edition of the family correspondence (Firenze, FUP). Now, through 1,900 letters from friends and readers, Francesca Nencioni offers a different and more ample overview of the fundamental stages in the life and works of the writer, focusing above all on the years of his university training in Pisa. Of particular interest is the appendix of carefully annotated unpublished texts, which offers 19 letters from Dessí to friends and scholars, the complete two-way correspondence with Walter Binni, and the letters sent to the friend and disciple of the great historian, Delio Cantimori.     Description: Le secret est le “personnage théorique” de ce volume collectif qui essaye de penser les figures particulières que la Modernité lui a inventées. Il ne s’agit donc pas de décrire des structures hors de toute histoire mais de chercher en quoi le secret est intimement lié à une économie nouvelle du langage, à des formes littéraires nouvelles. Car la Modernité a produit une exigence de tout dire qui change radicalement le partage entre dicible et indicible. Journal intime ou roman sont, notamment, deux matrices fécondes d’écriture du secret et leur floraison est, d’une certaine façon, l’histoire de la modernité. On déclinera donc quelques figures narratives du secret, en racontant le “roman du secret”. De Madame de Duras à Huysmans, Proust et Bernanos, de Blanchot à Quignard, ou chez Carrère et Both, le principe même du romanesque réside dans les modalités indéfinies de révélation du secret, ce secret qui se réserve, qui nous fait lire. Par contraste, la poésie choisit le versant du mystère. On en verra chez Maeterlinck, Artaud, Pessoa ou Michaux les modes de figuration, et ce qui fait du lyrisme une science de l’ineffable. Les figures du secret sont infinies, chatoyantes et séduisantes. Les énigmatiques jeunes filles de Balthus nous rappellent la place du visible et les réflexions de Wittgenstein ouvrent à une redéfinition de la subjectivité. Le secret échappe. Il relance heureusement notre désir de savoir, notre avidité de lire, notre besoin de lui donner un contenu. Il est ainsi l’un des noms, secrets et éclatants, de la littérature.

C’est oublier que la guillotine s’inscrit dans la mémoire, qu’elle découpe alors un nouvel espace de représentation auquel la peinture, la photographie, le cinématographe, musées de cires et salons de coiffure, se trouvent assujettis... Visages plus purs exaltés par la lunette, visions fugitives - « Un éclair... puis la nuit ! »- qui obéissent à la logique de l’instantané : le fil de la guillotine commande l’exposition romanesque du visage. L’échafaud fonde une scène nouvelle, suscite une constellation d’images et de textes. Singulière machine, -appareil funèbre, -vrai objet de désir. La littérature romanesque du xixe siècle se renouvelle, s’édifie, s’échafaude à partir de la guillotine, avec vue sur la Grève.

But in what way and to what extent its literary (as well as theatrical, cinematographical, comic book...) representation has changed – in terms of tone and strategies, in the degree of deformation of the known and shared reality – in the space of a Century that has seen the transformation of war strategies, media coverage and consequently the collective imagination linked to conflicts? The volume, conceived and edited by Nicola Turi, while tracing the individual path of known and lesser-known authors, in relation to the main theme of the book, both Italian and not (from Leopardi to Zanzotto, from Gadda to Calvino, from Salsa to Dessí, from Luzi and Fenoglio to Leavitt, Eisner and Celestini), also stimulates and elaborates a profound reflection on the bewilderment and natural attraction of the artistic gesture (from time to time in the name of fierce irony, desperate incredulity, the elegiac testimony) for evil, pain, the martial distortion of the human, social and political context.

    Description: En quoi la clé de lecture de l’essai permet-elle d’éclairer un certain nombre de productions hybrides ou transmédia, qui traversent plusieurs champs aux légitimités variables (photographie, télévision, cinéma, écriture scientifique, polar, création numérique, bande dessinée…) ? Quelles stratégies critiques et collectives pour un discours essayiste renouvelé, au miroir de ses supports de production et de diffusion ? Des spécialistes de l’essai et d’autres formes de non-fiction, des médias et de l’image, de l’art contemporain, des études de genre, ont proposé des contributions. Mais si la tension entre théorie et création les irrigue, elle se manifeste aussi au cœur de l’ouvrage, qui propose la restitution d’échanges animés entre deux bédéastes, un éditeur et deux universitaires, autour de la notion d’essai dessiné. L’ensemble est également rythmé « au fil du crayon » par le point de vue en images de l’auteur de bandes dessinées Fabrice Erre, dessinateur embarqué du colloque final. Le volume L’Essai médiatique, issu d’un programme de recherche de trois ans développé à l’Université de Limoges et à l’Université Gustave-Eiffel, poursuit deux objectifs. D’abord, faire le point sur l’histoire et les théories d’un genre difficile à classer, l’essai littéraire, qui a pu être qualifié de « non-genre ». Il est évident que le lieu de rédaction conditionne la forme et le message délivré par l’auteur.     Description: Le premier des quatre volumes de l’Œdipe roi de Sophocle, paru en 1990, et à présent réédité, comporte une longue introduction méthodique sur les conditions intellectuelles du déchiffrement et sur les données matérielles de la reconstitution (et de la constitution) du texte. Cet essai vaut, au-delà de la pièce, pour l’histoire de la transmission en général. On y trouve une description des différentes classes de manuscrits, avec une étude des habitudes de lecture et des courants d’érudition de Byzance jusqu’aux écoles modernes. Suivent le texte grec avec apparat, et la traduction. Le livre se clôt sur une analyse qui restitue les mètres des chants de chœur et sur un index relatif à l’introduction. Les trois autres volumes contiennent la paraphrase argumentée (l’argument) des unités scéniques, ouvrant une discussion du détail. L’ambition dépasse celle d’un simple commentaire. La présentation prend souvent la forme de dossiers sur des questions de linguistique, de mythologie ou d’histoire des religions. Elle inclut et situe la diversité des constructions possibles, et légitime équitablement le choix de l’éditeur. Elle retrace en effet les conditions dans lesquelles s’est faite la lecture au cours des siècles selon les nations (et les traditions culturelles, politiques et religieuses). L’analyse remonte partiellement jusqu’à la Renaissance, mais répertorie plus systématiquement les opinions soutenues depuis le tournant décisif du xviiie siècle, montant toute une histoire de la philologie. À la fin du dernier volume un index multiple inclut les orientations idéologiques de la critique et les faits de langue et de style.

    Description: Recent years have seen the publication of a great deal of the work of Ruggero Jacobbi, a legendary figure of Italian twentieth-century culture, thanks to a praiseworthy retrieval of unpublished material conserved in the «A. Bonsanti» contemporary archive of the Gabinetto «G.P. Vieusseux». However, despite so many new pages of poetry and translation, what was still lacking was the writer's voice. The voice which, thanks to the painstaking work of Eleonora Pancani, we can now read (if not hear), as with characteristic dexterity it intermingles verses and music, literature and theatre, politics and entertainment. Ruggero Jacobbi alla radio presents the transcription of several radio programmes of the 70s featuring the genial culture of this multi-faceted intellectual. Jacobbi entertains his audience, discorsing on literary history, the figurative arts and opera, quoting poetry, discussing plays, mingling observations on Goldoni, Pirandello, Bontempelli, Savinio, Pessoa and García Lorca in an engaging anecdotal style that involves the cinema, the theatre and literature, while the great figures of tradition and recent history are interwoven with reminiscences of private life.

    Description: Karel Teige was one of the leading theorists of the Czech avant-garde, and his activity is bound up with the most enriching cultural contributions made to the Czech Republic in the first half of the twentieth century. Proclaiming himself a Marxist, he was frequently at odds with Czech liberal-pragmatic thought. The emergence of European totalitarianism coincided with a major turning-point in his life when, towards the end of the 1930s, he had to come to terms with the Nazi invasion of his country and with the local version of Stalinism. After the War he was marginalised from cultural life and he died of a heart attack while being persecuted in a ferocious campaign of defamation by the Communist Party. The book offers a portrait of this protagonist of European culture and of the process of rediscovery that in the 1960s reintegrated his work and his thought into the extraordinary cultural revival that blossomed in the Prague Spring of 1968.

Le lion qui accompagne le héros devient alors son emblème: quelle meilleure incarnation de la noblesse que le roi des animaux ? Et pourtant, le lion est aussi une bête sanguinaire. Chrétien, faisant miroiter le symbole, nous rappelle son ambiguïté. Le lion impose sa force, tout comme les règles du jeu social ne tirent leur justification que parce quelles s’imposent elles-mêmes. On peut alors s’interroger sur le droit qui guide les actions d’Yvain : est-ce celui du plus juste, ou du plus fort ?

    Description: Homme de la frontière, Walter Scott est bien placé pour écrire sur cette limite à la fois concrète, topologique et abstraite, théorique. Né entre deux âges, à Édimbourg, capitale écossaise aux deux visages divisée entre la Vieille Ville et la Ville Nouvelle, il est issu d’une puissante famille frontalière et a passé sa jeunesse dans les Borders, zone de marche entre l’Angleterre et l’Écosse, avant de s’y installer définitivement. Structure charnière et conjonctive, la frontière est la véritable héroïne de sa série des "Waveley Novels" dont le nom est tiré du titre du premier roman publié il y a deux cents ans. L’œuvre de Scott est d’entrée de jeu placée sous le signe du déplacement et plus particulièrement de l’errance qui fait référence à un voyage interminable et sans but précis. Waverley, le prénom du personnage éponyme, vient en effet du verbe « waver » qui, certes, signifie hésiter en anglais, mais qui a aussi le sens d’errer, de vagabonder en écossais vernaculaire où il est employé comme un synonyme du verbe « wander ». Les intrigues romanesques reposent sur ces jeux de traversées transfrontalières, à la fois physiques et symboliques, qui sont l’occasion d’épreuves initiatiques transgressives en accord avec l’autre sens du mot errance, synonyme de défiance et d’erreur. Cette monographie s’interroge sur le rôle de la frontière chez Scott dans le contexte littéraire des récits de voyage sur l’Écosse avec Defoe, Pennant ou encore Johnson et Boswell, et dans le cadre historique de la tradition du voyage au XVIIIe siècle. L’objet de cette étude sur l’écriture de la frontière, et notamment du voyage erratique, est de dégager une voie du milieu que nous qualifierons de scottienne, c’est-à-dire propre à l’écrivain.

    Description: This research offers an integral analysis of the aesthetic thought of the director, playwright and art theorist Nikolaj Nikolaevic Evreinov. The work focuses on the analysis of the treaty The revelation of art, written in Paris in the 1930s, which represents the greatest testimony of the author's research in the aesthetic field. Henceforth, a connection is offered between the known aspects of Evreinov's theatrical thought, relating to the period of the avant-garde in Russia, and others, of a broader nature, which have long been precluded from being known. Through insights on the Russian theatrical history of the early 20th century, reflections touching textual criticism, the history of aesthetic thought and Russian criticism, the complex figure of an artist emerges against the background of the culture expressed by post-revolutionary Russian emigration. An artist who, as an intellectual, begins a dialogue with the Western European cultural tradition. This book thus intends to restore the visibility, as well as an exegetical and historiographic completeness, of Evreinov’s rich legacy as a writer, a philosopher and a critic.

An event of this magnitude has had and continues to have a great resonance in literature; this essay compares two authors at the antipodes, which well summarize the socio-political debate that accompanies the theme: José María Gironella, author close to the regime, and Juan Benet, hermetic writer. The contrast between the motivations and objectives of the two writers is accompanied by incompatible narrative choices. In the wake of the best Italian Slavic tradition, the lecturers present a wide range of themes in different languages, ranging from the Cyril-Methodian question to the critical reflection on contemporary authors. Despite the diversity of disciplinary and methodological approaches - from paleography to textual analysis, from literary comparative studies to sociolinguistics - these contributions show that Italian Slavistic studies maintains their roots, critically developing previous studies and opening up new perspectives for research, while a new generation of scholars is born.     Description: Bilbo le Hobbit, les Chroniques de Narnia et Le Seigneur des anneaux ont habitué leurs lecteurs à rencontrer dans le livre une ou plusieurs cartes des territoires qu’ils décrivent. En allait-il de même pour les lecteurs des fictions de la première modernité, entre les XVIe et XVIIIe siècles ? L’introduction de cartes n’allait pas de soi. Leur impression augmentait le coût des ouvrages, et la capacité des mots à produire des images mentales les rendait inutiles. Néanmoins, les cartes apparurent dans les œuvres d’imagination. Initiée avec les cartes des itinérances de don Quichotte et menant jusqu’aux éditions vénitiennes d’œuvres de L’Arioste et de Pétrarque, cette enquête s’est principalement attachée à deux généalogies. La première, anglaise, donne à voir les périples d’un voyageur imaginaire présenté comme bien réel : elle conduit des Voyages de Gulliver de Jonathan Swift à L’Utopie de Thomas More. La seconde, française et allégorique, a pour origine la Carte de Tendre, insérée dans la Clélie de Mademoiselle de Scudéry, et inclut les cartes galantes ou polémiques qui l’ont imitée. Selon les époques et les lieux, les cartes des fictions ont assumé divers rôles. Elles ont représenté des mondes à l’envers, satiriques, critiques ou utopiques ; elles ont brouillé la distinction entre le monde du livre et celui du lecteur ; elles ont nourri la raison et les rêves, au-delà même de la lettre du texte. Cheminant d’œuvre en œuvre, Roger Chartier offre dans cet essai une nouvelle approche de la mobilité des fictions et de leurs interprétations.

    Description: Difficile de définir la notion de littérature migrante. Sous l’angle de la traduction, la catégorie devient pourtant plus identifiable. Les littératures migrantes ont pour principale caractéristique de produire une vaste translation culturelle d’un champ à l’autre, soit que l’écrivain ait adopté la langue du pays d’accueil et opère lui-même le processus de transfert, soit qu’il écrive encore dans sa langue d’écriture première et que ce travail appartienne au traducteur.     Description: L'intertextualité avait fait l'objet en 2005-2006 de la session inaugurale du séminaire Approches Interdisciplinaires de la Lecture (AIL1). Si le concept demeure central pour appréhender le processus de création littéraire, peut-être n'est-il pas suffisant. L’arrière-texte entrevu en 2008-2009 serait-il le complément attendu et l’outil nécessaire pour penser la complexité ? Telle est la voie nouvelle explorée lors de la session 2009-2010 dans les deux domaines de la poésie et du roman. Les communications reprises dans le présent volume en restituent l’essentiel. L’arrière-texte procède, non de la théorie pure, mais de l’intuition d’écrivains nourris de deux cultures, russe et française. Il désigne tout ce qui se trouve en amont de la création littéraire, appréhendée selon ses deux versants auctorial et lectoral. On peut le concevoir comme le réseau d’associations présidant à l’effet littérature : associations verbales, sensorielles, cognitives, qui englobent et dépassent le phénomène d’intertextualité.

    Description: This study deals with the first works by Don DeLillo, from Americana (1971) to Running Dog (1978), but it also extends its investigation horizon to his following works. The work deals specifically with the conception of time, and the way it is represented in the texts of the American author. By integrating the philosophy of time with narratology, the volume offers critical reflections aimed at identifying the type of poetics through which DeLillo articulates time in his work. In particular, the centrality of the perception of time in his novels and, more specifically, the concentration of the plots in certain moments, the oblique presence of the influence of Samuel Beckett's work in the representation of duration and the attention of the author to the double temporality of the cinematographic image and its hidden aesthetic potential are highlighted. Therefore, time becomes the conceptual context in which the textures of these texts, and the themes characterising them, find a resolution. In the representation of time, in the microscopic analysis and in the slow motion of some specific time segments, DeLillo's narrative traces the possibilities of an indefinable and mysterious perception of reality and history.

    Description: This book on Slavic matriarchy is the result of the studies and researches that Evel Gasparini carried out over the span of his lifetime. Intrigued by the possibility of a close link between the collective ownership of the land and the ancient agricultural-matriarchal substrate of Slav culture, Gasparini launched on the titanic enterprise of analysing the archaeological and historical sources of early Slavic civilisation. Basing himself on a concept of culture elaborated in the ethnological field, he brought to light certain contradictions in the application of the Indo-European paradigm to Slavic culture and identified a series of elements illustrating the matriarchal substrate. Exploiting an uncommon knowledge of cultural anthropology and profound linguistic competencies, in this book Gasparini maps out a complex panorama ranging from the economy to the social structure and from the religious traditions to music and dance. Out of print for some time, the book is now proposed in a new, more convenient form, complete with an appendix on Finns and Slavs – which was originally intended as another chapter in the book but was then left out – a detailed preface by Gasparini's disciple Remo Faccani, and a bibliography of the scholar's oeuvre edited by Donatella Possamai.

    Description: This volume reconstructs the birth and evolution of the Italian literary history in France and England during the 19th century. In the French context, a comparative reading of the works by Pierre-Louis Ginguené and Jean Charles Léonard Simonde de Sismondi confirms that the subject had already reached its maturity at the beginning of the century. On the other hand, in England, the path leading from Ugo Foscolo to John Addington Symonds passes through multiple genres and sources, including collections of biographies, anthologies of translations, travel books, histories of individual literary genres, histories from the Middle Ages and the Renaissance. At the end of this path, a software pipeline is tested and developed with the aim of expanding the analysis through the computational tools of the Digital Humanities.

    Description: Les conflits en France entre 1500 et 1800, qui résultent entre autres de bouleversements confessionnels (les guerres de Religion), politiques (la monarchie absolue) ou concernant l'histoire des idées (les Lumières), font naître un vaste panorama de poèmes épiques aux sujets mythiques, historiques, bibliques ou scientifiques. Depuis les premiers essais épiques au temps des guerres d'Italie jusqu'aux Colombiades au XVIIIe siècle, la dimension de la guerre, qui se veut une constante dans la tradition du genre depuis Homère, ainsi que celle de la paix, liée à la vision d'un âge d'or chez Virgile, sont représentées et évaluées de manière variée et polyvalente. Ces variations dépendent du modèle épique choisi, des considérations poétologiques ainsi que de l'arrière-plan socioculturel auquel les poètes appartiennent. Elles concernent tant la représentation de la violence sur les champs de bataille que la conception et la modélisation du héros épique. Au sein d'un genre fortement codifié émergent donc de multiples essais qui conçoivent de nouveaux regards sur la guerre et la paix tout en les intégrant dans le répertoire de la tradition épique.

    Description: Né juste après la Révolution française pour désigner la science des idées, le mot « idéologie » s'est dévalué au cours du xxe siècle et il suscite aujourd'hui le débat à plusieurs titres, au premier chef lorsqu'il s'agit de le définir. Dans le domaine du livre de jeunesse, la conjonction entre idéologie, instruction publique et éducation s'inscrit au cœur des enjeux d'une littérature adressée et sous surveillance que l'auteur, l'éditeur, le médiateur ont toujours cherché à encadrer à des fins éducatives. C'est dans ce champ particulier que l'on se propose d'affronter la complexité d'une notion « labile et fourbe », d'après Bruno Blanckeman, pour en circonvenir les manifestations et les effets dans les entreprises romanesques de l'extrême contemporain. Faute de définition stable et univoque, sans doute convient-il ici d'embrasser la notion au pluriel et de concevoir les idéologies comme des « systèmes fixes de valeurs ordonnancées » qui trouvent un terrain de prédilection dans le roman, lui-même genre pluriel, « archi-genre » qui orchestre une polyphonie de discours et s'accommode de toutes les hybridités. En observant certains de ses sous-genres - roman-miroir, roman de fantasy, roman dystopique, roman post-colonial - les différents contributeurs sont conduits à se demander dans quelle mesure le roman contemporain pour la jeunesse met en œuvre une « poétique des valeurs » et s'il rend possible l'émergence de ces « fictions critiques » que Dominique Viart définit comme des textes où « le discours met en crise la pensée ». Les articles réunis ici interrogent dans les romans pour la jeunesse l'approche, souvent paradoxale, des grandes questions soulevées par les évolutions du monde contemporain. Au moment où l'actualité concernant l'école en France se cristallise à nouveau sur le sujet de l'enseignement de la morale, la réflexion s'attache notamment aux corpus romanesques prescrits par l'institution scolaire et à leur enseignement.

    Description: Drawing on different disciplinary and historiographic traditions, the volume offers a series of summaries and thematic insights, functional to contextualising the peculiar case of the episcopate of Bobbio, founded in 1014 in the Piacenza Apennines as a development of the famous monastery of San Colombano. The considerable documentary source available thanks to the recent reorganization of the diocesan archives, which made it possible to illustrate the cathedral library as well, required an overall presentation and specific attention to the constitutive acts of the new institution. The deepening of the historical context, within which the subsequent diocesan story unfolds, was conducted in relationship with the monastery and with a selection of the nearby cities. The analysis of the settlement dynamics of the Bobbian center and of the structural developments of the church and of the episcopal complex are counterpointed by both in-depth analyses aimed at the organization of the territory, captured in its civil, religious, welfare articulations, and treatments of cultural and liturgical components that animate this Church.

    Description: Principalement à l’attention des agrégatifs 2012 et 2013, le 8 e volume des « Actes de la recherche à l’ENS » est consacré au célèbre The Sun Also Rises d’Hemingway. Tandis que les grands romans modernistes des années 1920 renouvelaient les représentations de l’intériorité par la technique du courant de conscience ou du monologue intérieur, tandis que s’expérimentait un autre rapport à la temporalité, à travers des jeux sophistiqués sur les anachronies du récit, Hemingway mettait au point dans ce roman ce qui allait devenir le grain distinctif de son célèbre style : une écriture « blanche », comme on la qualifierait plus tard, au ras de l’expérience, journalistique, factuelle, objective. Cet effet de transparence obtenu, entre autres, par un effacement scrupuleux des marques d’une littérarité réflexive, allait, pour un temps, faire paradoxalement écran au raffinement du récit et à un art virtuose du dialogue. Les études de ce volume intitulé Ernest Hemingway, The Sun Also Rises. Entre sens et absence, réexaminent sur nouveaux frais le modernisme singulier de l’écrivain : plutôt que de faire parler à toute force ce texte laconique, elles interrogent les modalités formelles de sa réserve, à la fois comme retenue et comme promesse d'une nouvelle dispensation du sens.

    Description: Pour commencer, un vis-à-vis ouvre l’espace d’une confrontation, d’un face à face, d’une mise en regard. C’est aussi cet objet singulier - voiture à deux sièges se faisant face - qui génère les écarts et impose des rapprochements. C’est enfin cet instrument du voyage et de l’écriture que Sterne fait apparaître, à l’orée du Voyage Sentimental, comme en exergue. Opération de l’écriture, le vis-à-vis appelle une activité de lecture singulière. D’une certaine façon, le lecteur, en ce que sa singularité est exclue par cette machine d’écriture, doit l’affronter. D’une autre, il s’y reconnaît comme partenaire implicite, voire explicite, comme complice. Au détour des conventions et des innovations de ce récit de voyage, au gré des ruptures, des absences et des récurrences, au fil des aveux et des désaveux du personnage d’auteur, se tisse l’interrogation de l’objet littéraire, du projet d’écriture. On pose, ici, le vis-à-vis comme étant, simultanément, l’opération fondatrice de l’écriture de Sterne et l’objet représentatif qui l’autorise et la rythme.

    Description: Author of Architettura del medioevo in Sardegna which won him the Premio Nazionale Olivetti in 1956, Raffaello Delogu was an art historian and Commissioner for Antiquities and Monuments in Sardinia, Abruzzo and Sicily. His correspondence with one of the most eminent Italian writers of the second half of the twentieth century, as transcribed and lavishly annotated here by Monica Graceffa, reveals him not only as a committed intellectual devoted to the study of ancient and modern art, but also as a caustic and playful friend. His dialogue with Giuseppe Dessí commenced in their youth, when Dessí was an amateur painter on the way to maturity, who instead rapidly developed into a mature writer and attentive connoisseur of all forms of art. In addition to their studies and mutual friends (including Claudio Varese and Maria Lai), they also shared an interest in painting and in what Dessí was experiencing (his moves, his political passion) and what he was writing (fiction, drama, essays); important in this regard are the letters touching on the collaboration of both on the Sardinian issue of Pietro Calamandrei's «Il Ponte».

    Description: A-t-on jusqu’à présent lu les romans d’Eisa Triolet autrement qu’à travers le prisme des mythologies célébrant ou dénonçant la Muse, l’égérie rouge ? Ce livre voudrait faire percevoir dans les failles et les blancs du tissu romanesque l’empreinte de la poésie, sa « lumière noire », pour reprendre le mot d’Aragon. Celle qui dirigea la publication d’une Anthologie de la poésie russe, qui traduisit de sa langue natale Maïakovski et Tsvetaïeva, n’osa jamais s’aventurer dans l’écriture envers. Le bilinguisme aiguise néanmoins chez elle l’attention à la singularité de la langue et favorise peut-être une approche fondée sur la recherche d’une cohérence intuitive. Souvent, le récit trioletien outrepasse son réalisme supposé et procède par enchaînements métaphoriques de séquences hétérogènes, comme dans les rêves. La voix narrative consent ainsi à l’abandon partiel de souveraineté déjà à l’œuvre dans les textes surréalistes ; ce faisant, elle ouvre un champ plus large aux interprétations. Aussi peut- parler ici de « lecture littéraire », au sens de recréation on vraiment, partageant avec l’écrivain la dimension esthétique de l’effet littérature. Activité de synthèse, la lecture littéraire menée à partir de quelques textes de la maturité - la trilogie L’Âge de nylon, le récit des Manigances - s’autorise, par la proximité chronologique, à rapprocher ce que la stratégie éditoriale de l’écrivain avait déplacé. La problématique de l’engagement, présente dans le discours théorique, reçoit, par cette pratique des textes, un éclairage nouveau : les dissonances, intertextes étranges, le mélange de gravité et d’humour, y jouent un rôle essentiel. À l’heure où commence vraiment, en ce début de siècle, la réévaluation culturelle du siècle précédent, ce livre est une incitation à regarder d’un peu plus près une œuvre peut-être trop vite cataloguée par l’histoire littéraire.

    Description: With the additional help of archival material, the first part of this volume reconstructs the history of the Institute for Eastern Europe (Ipeo), founded in Rome in 1921, whose activity was characterized by a remarkable editorial production closely connected to the birth and development of Italian Slavic Studies. Despite the inevitable coexistence with fascism and the submission, somehow, to a line of conduct which especially in the 1930s accompanied the regime’s policy, the Ipeo’s activity was marked above all by a sincere desire to spread knowledge of a world which was still quite unknown in the Italian context under many aspects. The Ipeo operated until the end of World War II, when the government funding and even the political and cultural assumptions which had favoured its birth ceased because of the changed geopolitical context, determined by the end of the conflict. The second part of the volume covers the General alphabetical catalogue of all Ipeo’s publications, accompanied by a Chronological catalogue and by an Index of authors, editors, translators and preface writers.

The contributions are centred on the idea of canon, as a cultural construct founding modern national identities. Another trace is the literary and cultural hybridisations between different geographies. For the Romanian context, the contributions pay particular attention to the movements of the avant-garde of the early 1900s.     Description: Despite the indisputable richness of the Montalian bibliography, there still was no comment on a fundamental collection such as La bufera e altro, published, after a complex and protracted gestation, by Neri Pozza in 1956. The aim of this book is to fill that void, giving a first contribution to the exegesis of one of Montale's densest - and most difficult - works, where the poet draws the conclusions of a long research to restart his own inexhaustible search for new languages and imagery. Between preliminary introductions (proper essays) and notes, she tries to take stock of the matter by comparing the various existing critical hypotheses and proposing - in a close hand-to-hand with the text, verse by verse, problematising rather than glossing over - an original interpretative line.

    Description: Il contributo propone l’edizione critica del prosimetro di Giovanni Maria Parente Gloriosissimi Geminiani Vita corredato da undici silografie: il testo è contenuto in un incunabolo uscito a Modena l’11 marzo 1495 presso lo stampatore Domenico Rococciola. L’incunabolo, che si conserva presso la Biblioteca Estense di Modena con segnatura α. J. 7. 9 (1), rappresenta uno dei rari esemplari superstiti della tiratura del 1495. L’opera si configura come la più ampia attestazione narrativa in volgare di un interesse verso la storia e il culto di san Geminiano, vescovo di Modena nel IV secolo. Analizzandone il contesto storico-letterio, culturale e linguistico, si riconosce nella Gloriosissimi Geminiani Vita del Parente un testo di produzione locale a carattere popolare, che attinge alle forme e ai generi letterari della tradizione del Trecento e del Quattrocento, uno strumento di devozione rivolto in particolare agli illitterati, anche per l’alternarsi delle immagini alla prosa e ai versi.

    Description: Ivan Aksenov is one of the most neglected figures of early 20th Century Russian literature. The few scholars who have noticed his great originality interpret his verses above all as an application of the principles of Cubist painting in poetry, in the light of the experiences of Mayakovsky &Co.; these investigations denote a poor knowledge of the author, who did not fail to declare the incompatibility between the two artistic media. This book is therefore the first systematic study of Aksenov's poetry, starting from a reflection on the philological state of the texts, to move on to the reconstruction of his aesthetic thought and to integral analyzes of poetic compositions. An unprecedented theory of art emerges from this - which develops ideas of Tolstoy, Vjaceslav Ivanov and Freud - and a production in verses characterized by daring metric innovations and a flow-of-consciousness poetics of the with a subtly humorous urbanism that recalls authors such as Apollinaire and Cendrars. It is thus intended to highlight the peculiarity of Aksenov, the only Russian poet from the Futurist area to have participated, even for a few months, in the cultural life of Paris in the 1910s and an advocate at home of themes and stylistic elements partly related to the French esprit nouveau.

    Description: The concept of the literary canon is one of the most debated and controversial in the western intellectual tradition. This book offers ten contributions by Italian scholars of Anglo-American culture addressing the way in which the concept of the literary canon holds out against areas traditionally considered as external or extraneous to it. The essays range over different topics: the etymological analysis of the term "canon"; the relations between canon and performativity; paraliterature – a universe populated by non-hierarchic genres; the relations between post-colonial literature and the canon; postmodern biofiction; studies on translation and finally gay and lesbian literature. The book ends with a meditation on the innovations wrought on the Anglo-American canon by the virtual world of Internet and with a reading proposal originating from a different area of literary studies. Taken as a whole, the intention of the book is to pave the way to democratisation and pluralism in literary studies, going beyond the limitations set by the traditional scale of values of the "western canon". It proposes a frequentation of the geographical and cultural borderlines and hence of the areas of resistance that such borderlines pose to the dominant conceptual hierarchies within and around us, enabling us to glimpse an original future for literature and for western culture in a broader sense.

    Description: Poète au nom flamboyant, Blaise Cendrars a longtemps été dévoré par ses propres images. Celui qu’on a surnommé l’errant des bibliothèques, le pirate du Lac Léman ou l’Homère du Transsibérien s’est parfois pris au piège de ses légendes et le personnage a pris alors le pas sur une œuvre distraitement reconnue. Derrière l’époustouflant bricoleur de légendes, s’est pourtant masqué le constructeur d’un mythe où tout - corps, nom, monde - tend à se refondre dans une Vita Nova. Sous le signe de Nerval, son guide dans l’impossible, il en a confié le dessein lucide à l’écriture, par une expérience unique comme sa main de manchot. Le « comput » de sa vie d’homme, selon L’Homme foudroyé, commence au mois d’octobre 1917. Le secret qui le « bouffe tout entier », il ne le livre que par figures, mais tout tourne chez lui autour de cette coupure revendiquée avec insistance et mal désignée exprès au Lecteur inconnu. Au cours de l’été précédent, à Méréville (Seine-et- Oise), Cendrars a entrepris en secret le voyage vers la gauche de son corps qui lui permettra de se « refaçonner ». Par l’alchimie d’une coupure traversant d’un même fil son corps blessé à la guerre, un pseudonyme adopté depuis 1912 et une première entreprise poétique de laquelle il prend congé, il exile sa main coupée parce que coupable, donnant naissance à un des mythes les plus fascinants de la modernité, celui d’Orion manchot.

Mais sa récente réhabilitation dans le paysage de la critique contemporaine aurait de quoi faire réfléchir la critique elle-même. Qu’avait-elle perdu en le vouant aux gémonies, si ce n’est peut-être ce « commun », ce lieu pour la communauté ? Et nous, qu’espérons-nous faire avec le lieu commun, si ce n’est réconcilier l’activité lettrée avec sa dimension politique, et par là défendre la place des humanités dans l’espace public ? Telle est donc notre hypothèse : le lieu commun, banal et abandonné, laissé au public et aux discussions de café, aurait à voir avec la chose publique et notre propre désir de communauté. En remontant aux sources de la pratique « humaniste » des lieux communs à la Renaissance, jusqu’à leur traitement dans l’enseignement et dans la transmission de la culture, les différents articles réunis ici entendent réinterroger la dimension proprement politique de l’usage des lieux communs par les lettrés de jadis et les critiques de naguère, mettant à l’épreuve le pont que cette culture entend jeter entre les générations via l’institution des « humanités » comme ciment d’une communauté à travers les âges, dans une prétention pacifique et universelle mais au risque de l’exclusion des individus.

    Description: “A humanity that forgets Buchenwald, Auschwitz, Mauthausen, I cannot accept it. I write for us to remember”: this was Giorgio Bassani’s answer to anyone who asked him about the origin of his writing. Guided by these words, Anna Dolfi has woven a fabric of suggestions that have pushed Italian and foreign scholars and even some protagonists to reflect on narrators, poets, essayists, historians, philosophers, publishers, artists, who have been induced by the history of a difficult affiliation to a sort of fatal, testimonial moral duty. The result was a book of great novelty for style and reading proposals which, starting from the ancient Jewish tradition, from legends relived in a political and libertarian key, after the Romanticism and the German 19th Century, brings to the fore the modern voices of European and North American literature/culture, and of the Yiddish and Eastern tradition. The names of the great Jewish intellectuals of Central Europe are recurring: Canetti, Schulz, Döblin, Antelme, Wiesel, Sebald, Oz, Grossman, Nelly Sachs, Irène Némirovsky..., among the Italians those of Loria, Natalia Ginzburg, Giacomo Debenedetti, Cesare Segre..., but especially Giorgio Bassani and Primo Levi who, in order to keep the memory of the tragedy of persecution and the Shoah, have chosen to place their entire work “entre la vie et la mort”. Eventually, all this leads to remembering how the duty to testify is linked to the affection and work of mourning, to the lasting effect of an immediate wound that nourishes the connection between the truth of what happened and what one might call the “truth of creation”, le vrai du roman.

    Description: L’utopie naît en 1516, quand Thomas More moule dans une forme nouvelle des traditions aussi diverses que la doctrine politique de Platon, la satire de Lucien, le monde à l’envers, les mythes de l’âge d’or et du paradis terrestre, l’idéal monastique et les récits du Nouveau Monde. Si, au cœur du genre, fondamentalement hybride dès ses origines, se trouve toujours l’image concrète et détaillée d’une société radicalement différente et s’affirmant meilleure que toutes les autres, le sens du projet utopique n’est pourtant jamais donné, mais ardemment débattu, critiqué, brouillé ou renversé. C’est ainsi que l’utopie prend tour à tour l’allure d’un dialogue, d’une satire, d’une allégorie, d’un récit de voyage, d’un roman d’aventure ou d’une science-fiction et change, au cours de son histoire, de forme et de sens comme un caméléon. Le parcours que proposent les contributions du volume va de Sénèque aux derniers avatars de l’utopie contre-utopique du corps technologiquement perfectionné, en passant par le royaume des Amazones, la ville idéale de la Renaissance, le meilleur des mondes possibles de Voltaire, les dystopies du xxe siècle et l’utopisme de la science-fiction. À l’idée reçue d’un passage linéaire de l’utopie traditionnelle à l’anti-utopie moderne s’opposent les méandres d’un discours qui situe l’utopie, depuis toujours, dans un tiers espace entre l’eutopie et la dystopie. Hommage à Claude-Gilbert Dubois et à son lointain essai sur les Problèmes de l’utopie, ce volume rappelle que le genre utopique « obéit à une esthétique de la distanciation beaucoup plus qu’à une esthétique de l’illusion ».

The attraction towards scraps, conceived as anti-goods, testifies the existence of a parallel world where the myths of growth and productivity show their tragic face. Through different textualities and media, waste emerges as a testimony of a subversive marginality from which unexpected perspectives, which can undermine the established order, arise. The volume, using the image of waste, offers a hidden or marginalized counter history, which however 'returns' overbearingly in order to give contemporaneity its shapeless substance.

Peut-être… Un Chateaubriand en tout cas qui n’en finit pas de finir, et crève d’inachèvement ; un Vicomte, enfin, qui jouit de l’obscène effeuillage de sa propre mort.

    Description: La question de la censure, de ses modalités et de ses effets, semble inépuisable, et toutes les formes d’expression, que ce soit des textes (poésie, théâtre, roman, presse…) ou des images (peinture, photographie, cinéma…) sont susceptibles d’être à un moment ou à un autre les victimes de mesures censoriales plus ou moins sévères. Ce livre envisage les cas de l’Espagne, du Portugal et de divers pays d’Amérique Latine (Argentine et Uruguay) autour de trois thématiques : les pouvoirs et les censures de l’Ancien Régime au xxe siècle ; les dictatures face aux productions littéraires et cinématographiques : franquisme, salazarisme, dictatures latino-américaines ; langue et littérature : autocensures, oublis, manipulations. La question des stratégies à adopter face à la censure est au cœur de ce volume. Comment contourner la censure, s’y adapter et faire avec, comment pouvoir donc communiquer avec son public plus ou moins « librement » ? Les pratiques peuvent être variées et dépendre des situations concrètes, qu’il s’agisse de déplacement physique, de choix d’une autre langue ou d’effacement de repères concrets pouvant permettre de remonter jusqu’aux imprimeurs et auteurs de publications dont le contenu « hétérodoxe » peut faire l’objet de répression, en passant par l’autocensure, le jeu du possible qui peut permettre de faire naître des espaces de transgression. Brutale, souvent arbitraire, aveugle et polymorphe, la censure et ses agents sont rarement intelligents. La ruse, et donc la métaphore ou l’ellipse, devient alors une pratique obligatoire pour tenter de tromper les censeurs.

La narrativa comica di Henry Fielding e l’importanza dell’esempio cervantino analyses the influence of Don Quixote on Henry Fielding’s fiction, starting with a survey of the reception of the Spanish novel in England. Joseph Andrews and Tom Jones are analyzed and compared with the Spanish novel, from which Fielding overtly borrowed some characters, episodes, and Cervantes’ parodic strategies. Fielding’s and Cervantes’s narrative proceeded from the parodic deconstruction and subsequent innovation of previous literature, with the main purpose of teaching and amusing the reader at the same time. Finally, the volume examines the role of Fielding and Cervantes in the rise of the fictional and the self-conscious novel.

    Description: On a réuni en Espagne sous le nom de « Génération de 1898 » un groupe d’écrivains profondément marqués par le désastre qu’a représenté pour le pays la perte de ses dernières colonies, Cuba et les Philippines. Ces hommes sont très différents entre eux, mais ils ont quelques orientations communes : la mise en question radicale de l’Espagne officielle ; une volonté de changement réceptive aux formes de vie des autres nations européennes, sans faire disparaître les caractères propres à leur pays ; la recherche de nouvelles valeurs esthétiques et idéologiques éloignées de tout positivisme simpliste et faisant place au vital et au tragique. Rejetant une certaine vision de l’Espagne traditionnelle où l’Église occupe une situation centrale, ces hommes échappent à une orthodoxie catholique. On voudrait éclairer les relations complexes qu’ils entretiennent avec cette Église, laquelle, conservant ses rigidités doctrinales, s’est lancée dans une reconquête d’influence dont les objectifs et les méthodes ne sont pas toujours les mieux choisis malgré quelques tentatives d’ouverture sociale. On souhaiterait aussi montrer que presque tous les hommes de 1898 ont des préoccupations religieuses qui ont évolué, mais dont les modalités très diverses méritent d’être mieux connues.

    Description: Ce livre tente de s’interroger sur ce que signifie la lecture de Kafka aujourd’hui, en prenant notamment pour point de départ cette espèce de laboratoire de l’œuvre que constitue le Journal. De cette œuvre on peut dire qu’elle est avant tout une écriture fragmentaire, une pratique qui déplace constamment les frontières du romanesque et de l’« autobiographie ». C’est pourquoi il est apparu nécessaire, dans cette perspective, de reprendre la question du nom propre (sa position entre plusieurs langues, son caractère emblématique, sa dynamique). Car c’est, sans doute, pour Franz Kafka, une des voies d’accès essentielle à l’écriture, une des manières de prendre en compte le poids de la langue allemande. Comment un corps se découvre-t-il délimité et circonscrit dans et par l’ordre humain, c’est-à-dire dans et par les contraintes d’une langue reçue, héritée ? Kafka, dans les histoires qu’il construit, est un écrivain qui cherche sans cesse à énoncer ce qui l’incite et le pousse à écrire. Il ouvre, de cette façon, à nouveau, pour notre siècle, la question même de la littérature, dans son aspect le plus élémentaire, c’est-à-dire le travail d’un sujet incapable d’habiter entièrement la langue dans laquelle il est contraint d’écrire. D’où l’importance qui est accordée, dans ce livre, au petit texte de F. Kafka intitulé Discours sur ta langue yiddish.

    Description: The volume reconstructs the role of the "art objects" in the renewal of identity (social, political and cultural) of the Mannelli family, among the oldest families of the Florentine patriciate. During the 17th Century the main exponents adopted a lifestyle inspired by the Medici court, gradually dismantling, but at different times, the dress of the merchant. The analysis of the main town and countryside residences and of the displaying of the objects of art, conducted on a documentary basis and with the “display of art” critical tools, returns the fundamental stages of the renewal process and, together with numerous autonomous episodes of unpublished patronage and collecting, the emergence of common narrative strategies of historical and political identity through art objects.

    Description: Poetry as a "philosophical frontier" is the concept focused in this book on the poetry of Paul Celan. It is not precipitate to consider that the peculiarity of Celan's poetry and its reception lies in the persistent and ongoing interest displayed by philosophical criticism. Adopting an inclusive formula that goes beyond the mere notion of a "philosophical space", Massimo Baldi and Fabrizio Desideri aim to bring together readings and interpretative theories that are significantly diverse, albeit marked by the common intention of focusing the radical singularity of Celan's writing. All the essays presented here effectively reveal an attention to that engagement inherent in the letter of the poetic dictate, in the pungency of its inscription, which we must respect and listen to if we wish to understand Celan.

    Description: This book examines the historical ramifications of the concept of exoticism through a literary analysis of Histoire générale des Antilles (1654/1667-71) written by Dominican missionary Jean-Baptiste Du Tertre. The study gives a thorough account of the early French colonization of the islands and the ways in which this violent process of cultural encounters was represented. It argues for the necessity to reconfigure the notion of exoticism, both by revisiting contemporary theorization and by contextualizing it in regard to the history and aesthetics of the times. The study is thus both theoretical, in proceeding by a critical reading of different orientations of exoticism, and historical in offering an in-depth study of an author and a period that have received little attention despite their impact on French Caribbean literature and on the history of anthropology.

    Description: Wackenroder's conception of music is strongly influenced by the musical thought of the composer Johann Friedrich Reichardt, who was a romantic music teacher, friend and mentor of Wackenroder, whom he introduced to the 'realm of sounds'. Reichardt was the author of numerous essays on music and of the unique Musikerroman from the Enlightenment period (Leben des berühmten Tonkünstlers Heinrich Wilhelm Gulden nachher genannt Guglielmo Enrico Fiorino, 1779). Wackenroder e Reichardt: musica e letteratura nel primo Romanticismo tedesco (“Wackenroder and Reichardt: music and literature in the first German Romanticism”) compares the literary works of the two authors and investigates the results of their influence. The work retraces the transition from the conception of music during the Enlightenment, linked to the social function of art, to the idea of an 'absolute' music of the Romantic era, determining the artist's problematic existence.

    Description: La mondialisation, les mouvements de population et l’accélération des échanges internationaux signifient que nous sommes tous potentiellement étrangers, avec toutes les connotations que ce terme peut porter en lui. Un des premiers écrivains du vingtième siècle à avoir accepté et revendiqué haut et fort son héritage polyglotte est Vladimir Nabokov. Exilé naviguant entre le russe, le français et l’anglais, jongleur de mots, Nabokov est un écrivain emblématique de la problématiques des passeurs de langues et de cultures et trouve toute sa place dans la collection Chemins croisés. Sa prose en anglais porte les traces d’un métissage linguistique qui lance au lecteur une invitation au voyage. Elle se caractérise également par une grande créativité qui incite le lecteur à jouer avec le texte et ses nombreux calembours. C’est cette invitation au voyage et au jeu que cet ouvrage se propose de suivre et d’éclairer.

    Description: Roman noir, parabole de la capitulation des intellectuels face à la montée du nazisme, Auto-da-fé de Canetti (dont le titre allemand Die Biendung signifie « L’Aveuglement ») est aussi une transposition magistrale de Don Quichotte. L’analogie entre les deux romans est si patente qu’elle n’a pas manqué d’être relevée par la critique, mais elle n’avait pas encore, à ce jour, fait l’objet d’une étude approfondie. Pire, elle n’a trop souvent servi qu’à alimenter l’idée reçue selon laquelle Elias Canetti serait un écrivain conventionnel, pour ne pas dire réactionnaire. Au moyen d’une analyse comparative précise, Christine Meyer met à jour le réseau de correspondances qui relient Auto-da-fé au chef-d’œuvre de Cervantès. Elle parvient ainsi à éclairer les enjeux multiples, à la fois esthétiques et philosophiques, de la transformation intertextuelle chez Canetti.

    Description: The volume contains a selection of some of the most representative works from Rosanna Benacchio’s extensive scientific production. It is divided into three parts, the first one being dedicated to the category of verbal aspect in the Slavic languages.     Description: Mare, fiume, ruscello. Acqua e musica nella cultura romantica (Sea, river, stream. Water and music in romantic culture) re-reads German literature between the 18th and 19th centuries, focusing on the figure of water, following the theoretical-methodological lines traced by Gaston Bachelard in his studies on material imagination, especially in his 1942 work L'eau et les rêves. The work investigates the elective affinities between liquid substance, poetic word and music in the romantic period. The rereading highlights the large number of "liquid-aquatic" metaphors in Franz Schubert's lieder works, with particular attention to the cycles Die Schöne Müllerin (1823) and Winterreise (1828). The study is conducted in an interdisciplinary perspective that extends, between literary and musical analysis, to the reading and listening of the Lieder.

    Description: This book is dedicated to the poetics in the Italian language that have spread around Italy over the last thirty years, also as a consequence of the migratory waves from the South-East to the North-West of the world. After years of research, the authors have selected a sample of twelve poets, who for different reasons have adopted Italian as the language of their literary expression. These authors come from the Balkans (Bosnia and Herzegovina, Albania), from Eastern Europe (Romania, Poland), from central-northern Europe (Austria, Germany), but also from Latin American countries (Brazil, Argentina , Chile), the Middle East (Iran and Iraq), and the Africa (Senegal). This volume features a long critical introduction and an updated bibliography, and studies the issue of migration from a cultural, literary and linguistic perspective, further investigating the work of individual poets in relation to their culture of origin and their use of the language (or languages), touching current and complex notions and issues such as otherness, interculturality, evolution of identity, migration and relationship between the multicultural and multilingual writing and the contemporary Italian poetic tradition and its canon. The unpublished interviews concluding the volume were made at the authors’ places of residence and reconstruct their biographical and artistic path and their idea of language, translation, literature, home country and nationality.

Elle a présenté pour la première fois Maurice de Guérin et Adam Mickiewicz, elle a tôt reconnu et salué Eugène Fromentin, défendu les romans de Flaubert, soutenu les créations de Victor Hugo exilé. Balzac avait songé à lui demander une préface pour La Comédie humaine. Écrivant sur la littérature de son temps et, plus rarement, sur la littérature du passé, George Sandˆ apparaît dans une position d’autorité paradoxale qu’elle a pu construire grâce au succès de son œuvre romanesque. Bien que femme, et souvent installée à Nohant loin de la capitale, elle sait utiliser avec beaucoup d’intelligence les nouveaux moyens médiatiques de l’édition et de la presse. Par la liberté du ton et des formes, ses articles participent de l’invention d’une critique d’écrivain, où l’empathie n’exclut pas la combativité. Le volume révèle combien fut déterminant le rôle joué par George Sand dans la vie littéraire et intellectuelle du XIXe siècle.

    Description: Le C.E.L.F.A. avait inscrit dans son programme quadriennal 1998-2002 un axe de recherches portant sur l’intertextualité. Deux journées d’études, tenues les 31 mars 2000 et 11 mai 2001, ont balisé le parcours de travail ; la plupart des textes publiés ici sont issus de communications présentées dans ce cadre. D’autres s’y sont adjoints, poursuivant la réflexion qui connaîtra, sinon un aboutissement, du moins une amplification certaine dans le colloque « L’entredire francophone » qui sera organisé les 12,13 et 14 décembre 2002 à Bordeaux. Le propos vise à scruter et privilégier le dialogue entre les différentes littératures francophones, l’hypothèse de départ étant que, dans cette ère postcoloniale, le maintien d’une pratique commune du français dans des espaces géographiques et culturels variés devrait permettre aux écrivains comme aux lecteurs de passer les frontières, dans tous sens et non plus seulement dans un tropisme ramenant à un centre français.

Qu'elles aient été transformées en révolutions ou qu’elles aient été éteintes, réprimées, trahies, les insurrections ont modelé le rapport à l’histoire en train de s’écrire. Ce livre se propose de reprendre à nouveaux frais une double question dont les enjeux sont profonds : ce que l’insurrection, temps d’ouverture des possibles, espérés ou craints, fait à l’écriture et à la littérature ; ce que la littérature, ses auteurs, ses topiques, fait dans le temps insurrectionnel. Comment les moments insurrectionnels ont-ils redéfini la fonction et le statut d’écrivains comme Jules Vallès, Eugène Sue et Louise Michel, d’un genre comme les mémoires de protagonistes de l’insurrection, d’un médium comme le journal ? Comment les discours littéraire et historien travaillent-ils l’insurrection, au moyen de quelles mises en intrigue, de quelles mises en forme particulières et avec quelle efficacité ? Quelles rencontres peut-on observer, par exemple, entre le Dumas des journaux de 1848, le Hugo des Misérables et le Michelet de l’Histoire de la Révolution française ? Quel sens, enfin, donner aux prises d’écriture anonymes, par lesquelles les acteurs tentent de s’inscrire dans l’histoire ? Historiens et littéraires, à parts égales, ont été invités à répondre à ces questions. Partant de cas d’études qui empruntent tant à la Grande révolution de 1789-1794 qu’aux insurrections de 1848 et à la Commune de Paris, les articles qui composent cet ouvrage montrent qu’il existe bien à cette époque un lien fort entre littérature et insurrection qui doit être repensé.

    Description: Pétrus n’est plus qu’un nom dans la littérature romantique. Et pourtant Borel est exemplaire en cela qu’il a manqué ce que d’autres ont réussi. Son fourvoiement manifeste la pente intime qui parfois incline l’œuvre vers sa négation. Borel manifeste un destin, une destination « différée » que ses livres pourtant visent avec une ironique ferveur. « Auteur provisoire », il vaut par les signes de démesure, de gaucherie, d’apparat qu’il laisse, comme le rêve de ce qu’il aurait pu écrire (ou vivre). Au geste du Créateur transmettant d’un doigt la vie, il impose un retournement, pour se désigner lui-même, dans une sévère auto-accusation, lieu du procès et de l’excès. Œuvré par son désir inabouti, il révèle ainsi comme malgré lui l’arrière-fond inquiet dont l’art souvent résulte. Les bizarreries de son tempérament d’écrivain témoignent alors d’un insupportable pressentiment : et si la littérature était perdue - à moins qu’elle ne soit là pour dire, en créant, la perte même !

    Description: The volume presents the edition of a copy of an anonymous Russian manuscript spelling book probably written by the famous scholar Yevfimiy Cudovsky, or by personalities close to him from the Muscovite background of the Philhellenes, in the 1680s. This spelling book represents a significant evidence of the level reached, on the eve of the great reforms introduced by Peter, by the Russian didactic literature intended for elementary education, heir to the tradition established by Ivan Fyodorov with the manual printed in Lviv in 1574. The edition is accompanied by a preface and a commentary that locates the spelling book in the Russian historical-cultural and literary context of the second half of the 17th century, particularly in relation to other books of this kind and grammar manuals circulating at the time.
