    Notes: The pitting corrosion behaviour of some α-brasses (Cu%: 85, 70, 67, 63 and 60) in neutral and alkaline solution containing various halide ions was studied. The pitting corrosion resulted in dezincification in all cases and the pitting potential was found with few exceptions to increase in the order; Cu 60 〈 Cu 67, Cu 70 〈 Cu 63 〈 Cu 85 〈 Cu 100. Increase of pH was found to shift the pitting potential to more positive values and at highly enough pH values the pitting corrosion was inhabited in some cases. The instantaneous current, at constant potential and in absence of pitting was found to varies linearly with (1/time)1/2 at time ≥20 seconds. During the initial stage of pitting, the current was found to fit Engell-Stolica equation. The steady corrosion potentials in presence of Br- and I- ions were found to be nearly coincident with those of Cu/Cu halide couples while they were far from the theoretical values in presence of CI- ions and they changed negligibly presence of F- ions.

    Description / Table of Contents: Fracture Mechanic Analysis of Toughness Behaviour of Filled ThermoplasticsFor determination of toughness properties of filled thermoplastics the instrumented Charpy impact test has been used. The interpretation of impact load-deflection curves has been carried out with modern concepts of fracture mechanics. The change of toughness with increasing filler volume can be described for particle filled composites with the help of the J-integral in a suitable mode.The influence of filler volume, filler dimension and matrix type on critical J-integral and COD on the initiation of instable crack growth was tested.With the help of a micromechanical model to describe failure processes taking account of energy dissipative processes it is possible to calculate fracture mechanical behaviour of filled thermoplastics.
    Notes: Zur Ermittlung der bruchmechanischen Zähigkeitseigenschaften von gefüllten Thermoplasten wurde der instrumentierte Kerbschlagbiegeversuch verwendet. Die Interpretation der Schlagkraft-Durchbiegungs-Diagramme wurde mit modernen Konzepten der Bruchmechanik durchgeführt. Die Änderung der Zähigkeitseigenschaften mit zunehmendem Füllstoffvolumenanteil wird in geeigneter Weise durch das J-Integral-Konzept beschrieben. Es wurde der Einfluß des Füllstoffvolumenanteils, der Teilchengröße und der Matrixart auf das kritische J-Integral sowie die kritische Rißöffnung bei Einleitung des instabilen Rißwachstums untersucht. Anhand eines mikromechanischen Modells wird das Bruchverhalten von teilchengefüllten Thermoplasten theoretisch interpretiert, wobei energiedissipative Prozesse vor der Rißspitze einbezogen werden.

    Notes: Da das Reibungs- und Verschleißverhalten von Werkstoffen durch materialbezogene Kenngrößen nicht sicher charakterisiert werden kann, werden zur Werkstoffvorauswahl fü tribologisch beanspruchte Bauteile zumeist systemspezifische Kennwerte aus Modell-Verschleißversuchen herangezogen. Model-Verschleißversuche ermöglichen sowohl das Studium von Mechanismen der Tribologie, als auch die Charakterisierung der tribologischen Eigenschaften eines Werkstoffes. Die Standardisierung der Prüfbedingungen ermöglicht dabei einen Quervergleich unter den verschiedenen Polymerwerkstoffen.

    Notes: Vor ungefähr 25 Jahren, als die Bewertung von Bauteilen mit bruchmechanischen Methoden noch weitgehend Neuland war, wurden in der Werkstofftechnik der BASF die Vorgehensweisen der Bruchmechanik als nützliches Instrumentarium zur Beschreibung des Werkstoffverhaltens für zunächst dickwandige Betriebsanlagen erkannt, weiterverfolgt und mit verschiedenen Zielsetzungen eingesetzt: (a)Aufklären von Schäden(b)Werkstoffauswahl in Sonderfällen(c)Aussagen über begrenzten Weiterbetrieb fehlerbehafteter Bauteile(d)Festlegen von Inspektionsintervallen in Sonderfällen(e)Entwicklung neuer WerkstoffeDer Einsatz der Bruchmechanik entsprechend dieser unterschiedlichen Zielsetzungen wird anhand von Beispielen erläutert.

    Description / Table of Contents: The induction of indentations in brittle materials and their evaluation result in information useful for the characterization of materials. In addition to the fracture-mechanical evaluation of the indentations, i.e. of the incipient cracks resulting from them, which cracks are used for determining the fracture toughness. Information regarding the hardness, critical size of surface defects, characteristic quantities of crack propagation, durability as well as existing internal stresses can be derived.
    Notes: Durch das Einbringen von Indentereindrücken in spröde Werkstoffe und deren Bewertung ergeben sich Informationen zur Werkstoffcharakterisierung. Neben der bruchmechanischen Bewertung der Indentereindrücke, d.h. der damit in Verbindung stehenden Anrisse, zur Ermittlung der Bruchzähigkeit, sind Aussagen bezüglich der Härte. Der kritischen Größe von Oberflächendefekten, der Rißausbreitungskenngrößen. Der Nutzbarkeitsdauer sowie vorhandener Eigenspannungen abzuleiten.

    Description / Table of Contents: Fracture mechanisms of Thermally Sprayed MCrAlY/lN617 Composite Materials during Tensile Tests up to 800 °CTensile strength of thermally sprayed MCrAlY/IN617 composite materials has been prooved at temperatures up to 800 °C in a SEM. For these investigations two different qualities of composite materials have been developed. One sort of composite material had been produced with a good quality, the other one was produced with defects in the coating layer. The tensile strength of the good homogeneous material shows no dependence with increasing temperature, whereas the inhomogeneous composite materials develop better strength values with increasing temperature. The inhomogeneous coating always breaks in the near of the defect.
    Notes: Das Versagen thermisch gespritzter MCrAlY/IN617-Verbundwerkstoffe wurde unter dem Rasterelektronenmikroskop im Zugversuch bei Temperaturen von RT bis 800 °C ermittelt. Dazu wurden sowohl fehlerfreie als auch fehlerbehaftete Verbundwerkstoffe geprüft. Bei fehlerfreien Werkstoffen konnte keine Schadensabhängigkeit mit der Temperatur festgestellt werden, wohingegen die Zugfestigkeit bei fehlerbehafteten Werkstoffen mit zunehmender Temperatur steigt. Hier liegt in allen Fällen der Versagensbeginn der Schicht in der Nähe des Fehlers.

    Description / Table of Contents: Fatigue Crack Propagation Threshold: Material Property and Design CriteriaThe fatigue crack propagation threshold has been determined by two experimental methods covering the tension-tension fatigue regime. The two experimental methods are boundary conditions for this fatigue regime. A third experimental method positions the threshold somewhere between Kmax and Kmin such that because of the „Closure Parameter Kop“ the threshold is not positioned below 0.5 Kmax. The results obtained show that a threshold exists under all fatigue loading conditions and - depending on the subject, material - is either a material property or a material parameter which depends on Kmax
    Notes: Der Ermüdungsschwellwert wird durch zwei experimentelle Versuchsmethoden für den gesamten Zugschwellbereich bestimmt. Dabei stellen die beiden Versuchsmethoden die den Zugschwellbereich begrenzenden Ermüdungsbelastungen dar. Eine dritte Versuchsmethode positioniert den Schwellwert zwischen Kmax und Kmin, wobei der Schwellwert - aufgrund des „Closure“-Parameters Kop - nicht unter 0,5 Kmax positioniert zu werden braucht. Die gewonnenen Ergebnisse zeigen, daß der Ermüdungsschwellwert unter allen Ermüdungsbelastungen existiert und - jen nach Werkstoff - eine Materialkonstante bzw. eine von Kmax abhängige Kenngröße ist.

    Notes: Das Schmelzextraktionsverfahren (CME) für die Herstellung von metallischen Kurzfasern bietet die Möglichkeit. Unter Ausnutzung der Effekte der Schnellabkühlung neue Wege in der Werkstofftechnik zu gehen.Anhand durchgeführter verfahrenstechnischer und werkstoffspezifischer Grundlagenuntersuchungen sollen hierbei die Fasergeometrie und Werkstoffeigenschaften gezielt ausgenutzt werden.     Notes: Temperaturabhängigkeit der dynamischen Bruchzähigkeit an der Legierung Incoloy 800 nach KaltverformungAngerissen ISO-V-Proben der Eisen-Nickel-Basis-Legierung Incoloy 800 im Anlieferungszustand und nach Kaltverformung wurden mit Hilfe eines instrumentierten Pendelschlagwerkes im Temperaturintervall 293 ≤ T/K ≤ 1223 untersucht. Die spezifischen Schlagenergien wurden mit Hilfe des Schleppzeigers, der Integration des Kraft-Zeit-und des Kraft-Weg-Diagrammes ermittelt. In allen Fällen war die Übereinstimmung ausgezeichnet.Die spezifischen Schlagenergien und die Impulse wurden sowohl mit der Versuchstemperatur als auch mit dem Verformungsgrad korreliert. Die dynamische Bruchzähigkeit wurde mit Hilfe der äquivalenten Energie-Näherung ermittelt.In allen Fällen wurde ein deutliches Absinken der mechanischen Eigenschaften zwischen dem Anlieferungszustand und 5% Kaltverformung gefunden. Die Temperaturabhängigkeit der Schlagenergien zeigt einen deutlichen Anstieg der Werte zwischen Reumtemperatur und 673 K. Dieser Anstieg wird nach Kaltverformung deutlich reduziert. Die dynamische Bruchzähigkeit sinkt mit steigender Temperatur.Die Bruchflächen zeigen klar das elasto-plastische Bruchverhalten des Materials im untersuchten Temperaturbereich.

    Description / Table of Contents: A supplementary mechanical treatment to strengthen surfaces after machiningIn this work, a surface treatment is presented in which a hard metal tool insert with rounded edges is pressed on a machined surface at low speed and optimized pressure. This treatment can be executed on the same lathe used previously for machining. The effects on surface topography and surface layer properties (microhardness and X-ray peak halfwidth profiles, as well as residual stresses) have been quantitatively determined. In copper specimens, the surface treatment leads to compressive residual stresses and to strong surface layer deformation and, thus to an increase of near-surface hardness. This effect decreases the amplitude of plastic deformation in the surface layer during fatigue and results in a 25% increase of the fatigue strength at 107 cycles. In Al-2024 T6, the surface treatment causes high compressive residual stresses, an increase in superficial hardness and smoothing of the surface topography. This results in an improvement of the fatigue strength at 107 cycles of 48%.
    Notes: Um der Beeinträchtigung der Wechselfestigkeit von metallischen Bauteilen entgegenzuwirken, die durch spanende Bearbeitung ihrer Oberflächen bedingt ist, wird ein Verfahren der mechanischen Oberflächenbehandlung vorgeschlagen, welches dadurch gekennzeichnet ist, daß ein Hartmetallwerkzeug mit abgerundeten Kanten bei reduzierter Geschwindigkeit und mit optimiertem Anpreßdruck über die abgedrehte Oberfläche gezogen wird. Dieser Vorgang erfolgt in derselben Werkzeugmaschine, die zuvor zur spanenden Formgebung verwendet wurde.Zur Beurteilung der Wirksamkeit dieses Verfahrens wurde die Topographie der Oberfläche sowie wichtige Eigenschaften der Randschicht wie Mikrohärte, Eigenspannungen und röntgenographische Halbwertsbreite so untersucht, daß quantitative Tiefenprofile aufgestellt werden konnten. Es zeigt sich, daß durch das erwähnte Verfahren Druckspannungen in die Randschicht eingebracht werden, sowie teilweise eine Glättung der Oberfläche bewirkt wird. Die Auswirkung der Zusatzbehandlung auf die Wechselfestigkeit wurde an Rein-Kupfer und an der Aluminiumlegierung AlCuMg2 in Ermüdungsversuchen ermittelt. Es konnte eine erhebliche Steigerung der Wechselfestigkeit (um 25 bis 50% bei 107 Zyklen) beobachtet werden. Die mit diesem Verfahren verbundenen fertigungstechnischen Vorteile werden erlätert.

    Description / Table of Contents: Two different materials, a quenched and tempered steel with German designation 42CrMo4 and an Al-Li 8090-T6, were used to investigate the influence of crack closure on the lower part of the loading cycle. The usually measured closure parameter Kop was determined, too. But, the primary target of the present investigation was the lowest Kmin-value experienced by the crack front in the tension-tension fatigue regime. This lowest Kmin was denoted as Kmin. In addition, the modification of ΔK to a lower value ΔKred due to crack closure during the lower part of a fatigue cycle has been determined. It was found that for 42CrMo4 the influence of crack closure on Kmin or ΔK is negligible, while for the Al-Li 8090-T6 closure can substantially alter Kmin and ΔK. The two materials investigated can - in respect to their closure effects - be considered as the two boundary conditions enclosing the range of structural materials.
    Notes: An zwei Werkstoffen, dem vergüteten Stahl 42CrMo4 und der Al-Legierung 8090-T6, wurde der Einfluß der Bruchflächenschließung auf die Belastung an der Rißfront untersucht. Dabei war der bekannte Rißöffnungsparameter Kop nicht das primäre Ziel der Untersuchung, sondern der unter Zug-Schwellbelastungen mögliche unterste Wert von Kmin, welcher von der Rißfront bei völliger Entlastung noch erfahren wird. Dieser unterste Kmin-Wert wird als Kmin bezeichnet. Ferner wurde die Veränderung von Kmin bzw. ΔK infolge der Bruchflächenschließung gemessen. Es zeigte sich, daß bei 42CrMo4 der Einfluß der Bruchflächenschließung auf Kmin und ΔK bei niedrigen R-Verhältnissen kaum feststellbar ist, während beim A1 8090-T6 dieser Einfluß beträchtlich ist. Die hier untersuchten Werkstoffe sind in bezug auf die Bruchflächenschließung als die beiden Extreme zu betrachten, die die Palette der Strukturwerkstoffe einschließen.

    Notes: A kinked bar with two rectangular knees is shape optimized with respect to different single and one combined loading case. A guideline to shape optimization is given for combined loading. It was found that if the kinked bar is shape optimized with respect to the most unfavorable case of combined loading, the final optimum design will be also weight optimized. However if single load cases which are part of this combination or sub-combinations are applied the design is still safe, but not weight-minimized furthermore. The shape optimization was carried out with the CAO-method (CAO: Computer Aided Optimization) which is based on a computer simulation of biological growth. It is a new method developed in the Karlsruhe Nuclear Research Center.

    Description / Table of Contents: Influence of Positive and Negative Mean Stresses on the Cyclic Stress-Strain Behaviour of Normalized Steel SAE 1045In technical parts cyclic loads are often superimposed by static load components. In such cases, mean stresses influence the cyclic deformation behaviour and produce cyclic creep effects. Single step push-pull fatigue tests were carried out with normalized specimens of the steel SAE 1045. Using cyclic deformation curves and cyclic creep curves, the influence of different mean stresses will be discussed.
    Notes: Technische Bauteile unterliegen oft überlagerten zyklischen und statischen Beanspruchungen. Dabei beeinflussen die Mittelspannungen das Wechselverformungsverhalten nachhaltig und bewirken zudem zyklisches Kriechen. Da für unlegierte Stähle nur unzureichende Kenntnisse über das Wechselverformungsverhalten und das zyklische Kriechen bei unterschiedlichen Mittelspannungen vorliegen, wurden systematische spannungskontrollierte Zug-Druckversuche an normalisierten Rundproben des Edelstahles Ck 45 durchgeführt. Die Versuchsergebnisse werden vorgestellt und diskutiert.

    Notes: The corrosion of Al in NaOH solutions has been investigated using polarization method as well as weight loss method. The effect of various organic and inorganic compounds on the rate of corrosion was studied. The results indicated that the rate of Al corrosion is maximum at [NaOH] ∼4M. Various benzoic acid as well as other organic acids inhibit the corrosion but to different extents depending on the structure. The inhibition is due to adsorption of these acids and not due to neutralizing effect. Some sulpher containing compounds inhibit the corrosion but to lesser extent than acids. Aniline and its derivative are mostly activators for corrosion.

    Description / Table of Contents: Influence of different Heat Treatment Methods on the Fatigue Behaviour of Sintered SteelsThis investigation compares the fatigue behaviour of the alloys Fe-1.5%Cu, Fe-1.5%Cu-0.6%C and Fe-0.8%Mn-0.95%Cr-0.24%Mo-0.6%C in as-sintered and heat treated states. The steel Fe-1.5%Cu is carbonitrided and both other alloys are quenched and tempered. As in practice components are usually notched and will be subjected to different types of loading, the investigation is carried out with unnotched and notched specimens tested under axial loading and bending with and without mean stresses. The selection of these different materials, heat treatment methods, geometries, and loading modes covers a broad field of practical applications.
    Notes: Diese Untersuchung vergleicht das Schwingfestigkeitsverhalten der Sinterstähle Fe-1,5%Cu, Fe-1,5%Cu-0.6%C und Fe-0,8%Mn-0,95%Cr-0,24%Mo-0,6%C in gesinterten und wärmebehandelten Zuständen. Die Legierung Fe-1,5%Cu ist karbonitriert und die beiden anderen vergütet. Da in der Praxis Bauteile Spannungskonzentrationen aufweisen und unterschiedlichen Belastungsarten ausgesetzt sind, wurden die Versuche mit ungekerbten und gekerbten Proben unter Axial- und Biegebelastung mit unterschiedlichen Mittelspannungen durchgeführt.     Notes: The kinetics of growth of the open circuit insulating oxide films on Hf, Ta, Nb, Zr and Al were studies in many salt solutions using potential and capacitance measurements. The effect of salt type and concentration, oxygen concentration, temperature and surface pretreatment on the growth kinetics were also investigated. In all cases, the potential and the reciprocal capacitance were found to increase linearly with logarithm of time. It is assumed that the oxide film grows via the solid state mechanism under the influence of highly enough electric field strength to cause the ionic migration. The field is created as a result of the adsorption of the electrolyte anions onto the metal oxide surface. The estimated field strengths (H ≍ 106 V cm-1) are in favour with the proposed mechanism. The results showed also that the growth rate constant is a function of the field strength.

Mises equivalent stresses and on the other hand the reduction of the deformation capacity, described above. A model ist proposed to estimate these influences of the states of stress on the creep rupture times.

    Description / Table of Contents: It is the aim of the investigations on a PBTP-glass-spherecomposite to get experimental well-founded informations about the state of stress in the polymer matrix of the composite. The used method was the x-ray-lattice strain-stress measurement.The result of the measurements is the proof of a 3-axial state of tension stress in the polymer matrix in the unloaded state as well as under an uniaxial tension load. The reason are differences in the elastic properties of the two components in this heterogenous built up composite.
    Notes: Die Untersuchungen an einem PBTP-Glaskugel-Verbundwerkstoff haben das Ziel, experimentell begründete Aussagen über den Spannungszustand in der Polymermatrix des Verbundwerkstoffes zu gewinnen. Als Meßverfahren wurde die röntgenographische Spannungsmessung verwendet.Im Ergebnis der Messungen konnte in der Polymermatrix des Verbundwerkstoffes sowohl im unbelasteten Zustand als auch bei einachsiger äußerer Zugbeanspruchung ein mehrachsiger Zugspannungszustand nachgewiesen werden. Er ist durch die Unterschiede in den elastischen Eigenschaften der beiden Komponenten des heterogenen aufgebauten Verbundwerkstoffes bedingt.

Es wird angenommen, daß ergänzende Messungen im 4-Punkt-Biege-(4PB)-Test an kleinen Standardproben identischen Materials durchgeführt werden.Es konnte gezeigt werden, daß eine geringe Anzahl von Tests direkt am Bauteil durchgeführt ausreicht, um dessen mittlere Festigkeit zu bestimmen. Zur Bestimmung der Festigkeit für eine technologisch signifikante Versagenswahrscheinlichkeit wird die Durchführung von 4PB-Tests an einer großen Zahl von kleinen Standardproben empfohlen.
    Notes: A Computer simulation method was set up to determine the number of ceramic test specimens recommendable for the experimental strength determination on structural components (e.g. on a tube section) under simulated operation conditions, assuming that these measurements can be supported by 4-Point-Bending-(4PB)-tests on small standard test specimens of the identical materialThe results show, that a small number of tests performed directly on components, (less than 5) is sufficient to determine the mean strength. To determine the strength for a technologically significant low fracture probability, 4PB-tests with small standard tet specimens are recommended with a big number of specimens.

    Notes: It is assumed that the plane in which the maximum variance of the equivalent stress appears is critical for a material and the fatigue fracture should be expected in this plane. The equivalent stress is calculated according to the fatigue criterion of maximum shear and normal stresses in the fracture plane. It was demonstrated that for each stationary random stress state there is one or more critical planes where the fatigue fracture plane can be expected. The variance method together with the discussed fatigue criterion give good results for three analysed types of carbon steels under multiaxial cyclic loadings.

    Description / Table of Contents: Characterization of the Tribological Behaviour of Ceramic Sliding Couples with Modern Surface Analysis MethodsDry friction and wear tests were performed in ambient atmosphere with various self-mated couples of SiC, Al2O3, Si3N4 and ZrO2. The temperature was varied between 22 °C and 1000 °C and the sliding velocity between 0.03 m/s and 5 m/s. Normal force, temperature and sliding velocity are kept constant during the tests.The materials and wear mechanisms were characterized by various surface analytic methods - optical microscopy, scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, electron microprobe analysis, IR-spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction, auger electron spectroscopy and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. High wear/low wear transitions could be explained. On the basis of these results new ceramic materials with lower friction and/or wear were selected or successful developed.
    Notes: Es werden Ergebnisse von Modellverschleißprüfungen an artgleichen keramischen Gleitpaarungen in einer Stift/Scheibe-Anordnung bei Festkörperreibung vorgestellt. Die Temperatur wurde zwischen 22 °C und 1000 °C und die Gleitgeschwindigkeit zwischen 0,03 m/s und 3 m/s variiert. Die Versuche wurden in Laboratmosphäre unter konstanten Lasten von 1 N und 10 N durchgeführt. Für die Charakterisierung der Ausgangswerkstoffe, zur Aufklärung von Verschleißhochlage/-tieflage-Übergängen sowie der Verschleißmechanismen und der Verschleißerscheinungsformen wurden verschiedene oberflächenanalytische Verfahren - u. a. Lichtmikroskopie. Rasterelektronenmikroskopie. Transmissionselektronenmikroskopie. Infrarot-Spektroskopie. Elektronenstrahl-Mikroanalyse, Röntgenbeugung. Auger-Elektronen-Spektroskopie und Röntgen-Photoelektronen-Spektroskopie - eingesetzt.Auf der Grundlage oberflächenanalytischer Untersuchungen wurden die Werkstoffe tribologisch optimiert. Mit den neu entwickelten Werkstoffen konnten die Reibungszahlen und/oder die Verschleißraten auf Werte gesenkt werden, Wie sie vor allem bei extremen Beanspruchungsbedingungen (hohe Temperatur, aggressives Umgebungsmedium und Festkörperreibung) von anderen Werkstoffgruppen nicht erreicht werden.

    Description / Table of Contents: A Laser-Interferometer for Non-contacting Measurements of Displacements in the Range of NanometersA prototype laser-interferometer with a computer-aided control and evaluation system was developed and attached to a commercial tensile testing equipment for testing. With microhardness indentations as markers it is possible to determine displacement changes with a resolution of about one nanometer. The capabilities of this test system are demonstrated e.g. by measurements of the static Young's modulus, the determination of the crack opening behaviour and the coefficient of thermal expansion of Cu-specimens.
    Notes: Ein Laser-Interferometer mit einem rechnergestützten Auswerteverfahren wurde in einer Prototypentwicklung an eine kommerzielle Zugprüfmaschine angepaßt und erprobt. Mit Hilfe von als Meßmarken dienenden Mikrohärteeindrücken erlaubt dieses Meßsystem. Abstandsänderungen mit einer Auflösung von etwa 1 Nanometer zu bestimmen. Die Funktionsfähigkeit dieser Meßanordnung wird an Beispielen der E-Modulmessung der Bestimmung des Rißöffnungsverhaltens und des Wärmeausdehnungs-koeffizienten von Cu-Proben demonstriert.

    Notes: Der Beitrag beschreibt das Verhalten von Zementstein und Betonen bei der Beanspruchung durch Flüssigkeisstrahlen hoher Geschwindigkeit. Mittels Quecksilberporosimetriemessungen und Korngrößenanalysen wird festgestellt, daß der Versagensvorgang bruchmechanisch orientiert ist und daß das Verhalten deutlich durch die Zuschlagstoffkörner beeinflußt wird.

    Description / Table of Contents: Oberflächenbehandlung von Al2O3 mit CO2-LaserPoröse und dichte Al2O3-Keramik wurde mit infrarotem Laserlicht oberflächenbehandelt. Hierbei wurden die Leistungsdichte der Laserstrahlung in weiten Grenzen variiert und unterschiedliche Vorheiztemperaturen benutzt. Die Bildung von Rißnetzwerken und die Tiefe der geschmolzenen Zonen wurde in Abhängigkeit von verfahrensparametern ermittelt.Die Untersuchungen zeigen, daß eine Kornvergrößerung in der Aufschmelzzone nicht vermieden. aber die Rißbildung durch Optimierung der Laserparameter und Vorheizen effektiv herabgesetzt werden konnte. Die Oberfläche der porösen Keramik konnte durch infrarote Laserstrahlung erfolgreich versiegelt werden.
    Notes: Laser surface melting of porous and dense compact Al2O3 ceramics was studied by using a wide range of laser power densities and different preheating temperatures. Tendency for cracking and depth of melted zone were measured as a function of operating conditions.The experiments showed that grain growth in the laser treated zone could not be avoided but tendency for cracking was substantially reduced by optimizing laser parameters and preheating procedure. Surfaces of porous ceramic were successfully sealed by infrared laser light.

    Description / Table of Contents: Fatigue crack propagation under in phase mixed mode I+II loadingStress intensity factors of kinked cracks are calculated by using the boundary-element-method (BEM). The results are compared to some analytical solutions. Referred to the crack deflection angles. The results of BEM calculation agree well with NUISMER's criterion and in addition with the experimental results.The growth rates of kinked cracks are compared to purely mode I loaded cracks. At R = 0.6 the crack growth rates don't show any difference. At R = 0.1 the angled cracks show slower growth rates. The reason is a significant II*-induced crack closure. When referring the crack growth rates to ΔKeff, there is almost no difference between the propagation rates of angled cracks and straight cracks. This is in good agreement with the results, achieved at R = 0.6.
    Notes: Die Spannungsintensitätsfaktoren KI* und KII* abgelenkter. kurzer Zusatzrisse werden mit Hilfe der Boundary-Element-Methode (BEM) berechnet und mit den Ergebnissen analytischer Ansätze verglichen. Die BEM Simulation liefert bezüglich der erwarteten Rißablenkwinkel ähnliche Ergebnisse wie der Ansatz von NUIS-MER bzw. wie das Tangentialspannungskriterium. Die experimentellen Ergebnisse stimmen mit denen der numerischen Simulation gut überein.Die Fortschrittsraten abgelenkter Risse werden mit denen von rein Modus I belasteten Rissen verglichen. Bei einem Spannungsverhältnis R = 0.6 ist kein signifikanter Unterschied feststellbar. Bei R = 0.6 weisen die abgelenkten Risse kleinere Fortschrittraten auf. Die Ursache dafür ist II*-induziertes Rißschließen. Bezogen auf ΔKeff, zeigt sich bei R = 0.1 kein nennenswerter Unterschied zwischen den Mixed-Mode und Modus I Rissen. Diese Beobachtung deckt sich mit den Ergebnissen, die bei R = 0.6 erzielt wurden.

    Description / Table of Contents: On Alternating Bending Machine WEBI's Suitability for Determination of Fatigue CharacteristicsAlready in 1966, experimental investigations revealed that the flat bending torsion testing machine „FLATO“ (Schenck, Darmstadt) doesn't keep constant its torsional moment amplitude in case of specimen's fatigue softening or hardening, respectively. Thus. conclusions concerning the material's fatigue characteristics drawn from such experimental results might therefore be seriously false. Furthermore, also the alternating bending testing machine „WEBI“ (Schenck, Darmstadt) shows an equivalent behaviour concerning its bending moment amplitude. For this reason. the main findings of a comprehensive experimental study carried out on WEBI with an unalloyed steel C 45 (0.45 mass perccnl C) in different heat treatment conditions are reported in this paper.
    Notes: Bei zwangsangetriebenen Schwingprüfmaschinen bestimmter Bauart kommt es im Falle zyklischer Ent- oder Verfestigung des geprüften Werkstoffes zu Veränderungen bezüglich deren Beanspruchungscharakteristik. Schon 1967 werden derartige Verände-rungen von technologisch und damit gleichermaßen anwendungsorientiert bedeutsamer Größenordnung im Zuge von Untersuchungen auf einer Flachbiege-Torsions-Maschine („FLATO“) aufgezeigt. Die vorliegende Arbeit berichtet über eine entsprechende Experimentalstudie auf einer Wechselbiegemaschine („WEBI“). Die Ergebnisse erhärten den Vorbehalt gegen die Verwendung von Prüfmaschinen dieses Bauprinzips zur Ermittlung von Ermüdungskennwerten, sofern diese Maschinen nicht durch zusätzliche, derzeit (noch) nicht handelsübliche Kontroll- bzw. Regeleinrichtungen ergänzt werden.

    Notes: Thin, adherent and stable polymeric films of 4-(2-pyridylazo)resorcinol (abbreviated as PPAR) were prepared by oxidative polymerization in 0.2 M NaOH solutions. PPAR films deposited on GC electrodes were found to inhibit the electron transfer reactions of the couple [Fe(CN)6]3-/4-. The redox behaviour of CuCl2 in 0.5 M KCl at bare and PPAR-covered GC electrodes was studied by cyclic voltammetry, RDE voltammetry and chronoamperometry. At PPAR-covered electrodes the peak potential of deposition of Cu occurs at ≃ 260 mV more cathodic potential than bare electrodes whereas the redox peaks of Cu2+/1+ and the oxidation of Cu → Cu1+ occur at the same potentials. Catalysis of thc redox processes of the couple Cu2+/1+ at PPAR-covered electrodes is attributed to incorporation of the redox species by chelation and electrostatic attraction. The diffusion coefficient of Cu2+ species (D = 0.29 × 10-5cm2 S-1) at PPAR-covered electrodes was found to be less than at bare electrodes (D = 0.95 × 10-5 cm2 S-1) whereas the effective bulk concentration (CO* = 28 mM) is higher than the used concentration: 10 mM.

    Notes: Untersuchungen an Flachzugproben und Behältern aus Vergütungs- und Feinkornbaustählen mit etwa halbelliptischen Oberflächenrissen haben gezeigt. Daß die Versagensspannung nach Verfahren des plastischen Versagens konservativ ermittelt wird. Während sie nach dem Ansatz von Harrison und dem Fließkriterium von Mises - unabhängig von der Rißtiefe - im Mintel um etwa 10% unterschätzt wird, bewerten die anderen untersuchten Verfahren (Mattheck, Chell) deutlich konservativer. Der Grad der Unterschätzung wächst von etwa 30 bzw. 40% bei mittleren Rißtiefen bis zu 70% bei tiefen Rissen. Für einseitigen Wasserstoffangriff auf der Rißausgangsseite ergaben sich i.a. die gleichen konservativen Bewertungen wie bei Luftumgebung.Die Untersuchung hat weiterhin gezeigt, Daß die Versagensspannung von Fluchzugproben unter Luft- und Wasserstoff-Atmosphäre mit etwa konstanter Rißtiefe mit guter Genauigkeit berechnet werden kann, wenn im Restquerschnitt der Mittelwert zwischen Streckgrenze und Zugfestigkeit als Fließspannung angesetzt wird.Es ist für ähnliche Bauteile zu erwarten, daß die erarbeiteten Ergebnisse auf Werkstoffe mit vergleichbaren Rißzähigkeits- und Festigkeitseigenschaften übertragbar sind.

    Description / Table of Contents: In total strain-controlled tests without mean strain the cyclic deformation behaviour of unalloyed normalized steels with carbon contents 0,1 ≤ C ≤ 1,05 (wt.-%) is characterized by pronounced softening and slight hardening processes. With increasing carbon content the cyclic deformation curves are shifted to higher stress amplitudes. Cyclic stress strain curves of unalloyed steels determined in tests without mean load are independent of the testing procedure. With increasing carbon content the number of cycles for εa,e = εa,p (transition point) of strain-controlled SN-curves is shifted to smaller values.
    Notes: Das Wechselverformnungsverhalten unlegierter normalisierter Stähle mit Kohlenstoffgehalten 0,1 ≤ C ≤ 1.05 (in Masse-%) ist in totaldehnungskontrollierten mitteldehnungsfreien Versuchen durch ausgeprägte zyklische Entfestigungs- und schwache Verfestigungsvorgänge gekennzeichnet. Die zyklischen Spannungs-Dehnungskurven werden mit wachsendem Kohlenstoffgehalt zu größeren Spannungsamplituden verschoben. Die mittelspannungsfrei ermittelten zyklischen Spannungs-Dehnungskurven unlegierter Stähle sind unabhängig von der Versuchsführung. Die Übergangslastspielzahl, bei der in der Dehnungswöhlerlinie εa,e = εa,p wird, verschiebt sich mit wachsendem Kohlenstoffgehalt zu kleineren Werten.

    Notes: Das Diffusionsschweißen von Metall-Keramik-Verbindungen kann sowohl rnit Hilfe konventioneller Diffusionsschweißanlagen als auch unter Anwendung der Heißisostatischen Preßtechnik durchgeführt werden. Der Einsatz der HIP-Technologie ermöglicht die Herstellung verschiedenartiger Werkstoffverbunde. Aufgrund der unterschiedlichen Eigenschaften der metallischen und keramischen Grundwerkstoffe werden die Schweißverbindungen in der Regel mit Hilfe von Zwischenschichten hergestellt. Lediglich bei Keramiken, die ein den Metallen ähnliches Ausdehnungsverhalten aufweisen, können Direktschweißungen durchgeführt werden. Voraussetzung für alle Werkstoffverbundsysteme ist die Entwicklung einer entsprechenden Schweißtechnologie, deren Parameter bestimmend sind für Art, Ausdehnung und Zusammensetzung der Reaktionszone, und die damit die Verbindungsgute der Diffusionsschwingungen entscheidend beeinflussen.
