    Active remote sensing of layered random media (1979)

    Description: Analytical expressions for the backscattering cross sections have been derived for active remote sensing of an arbitrary number of random layers. These results are applicable to the interpretation of radar backscattering from vegetation and snow-ice fields. We illustrate the results by matching experimental data using the model of a three-layer random medium with air above and ground below.

The free sugar could not be obtained in a pure state.
    Notes: Die Titelverbindung wurde, ausgehend von D-Glucose, in Form ihres Di-N-acetyl-, -trifluoracetyl- und ihres N,N′-Bis(2,4-dinitrophenyl)-Derivates erhalten. Reindarstellung des freien Zuckers gelang nicht.

    Description / Table of Contents: TlPd3O4 and TlPt3O4 - Ternary Platinum Metal Oxides with Cluster StructureThe crystal structure of the cardinal red oxide TlPd3O4, prepared by the reaction of Pdo with TlNO3 or Tl2O3 at 550°C, has been determined on powder samples by X-ray and neutron diffraction. The structure of the cubic compound (a = 959.6(2) pm; space group Fm3m; Z = 8) contains square-planar PdO4 units which are joined to a three dimensional skeleton by triply bonding oxygen atoms. The cubic and rhombicuboctahedral spaces are occupied by TlIII and TlI cations so that the compound can be formulated as a mixed valency thallium(III)-thallium(I)-oxopalladate(II). The relationship with the structure of the platinum bronzes is discussed.The analogous ternary platinum oxide TlPt3O4 (a = 966.3(2)pm) has been obtained by thermal decomposition of Tl2Pt2O7.
    Notes: Die Kristallstruktur des durch Umsetzung von Pdo mit TlNO3 bzw. Tl2O3 bei 550°C erhaltenen kardinalroten Oxides TlPd3O4 wurde durch Röntgen-und Neutronenbeugung an Pulverproben aufgeklärt. In der Struktur der kubischen Verbindung (a = 959,6(2) pm; Raumgruppe Fm3m; Z = 8) sind quadratisch planare Pdo4- Baugruppen über dreibindige O- Atome zu einem dreidimensionalen Netz verknüpft. Die würfelförmigen und rhombendodekaedrischen Hohlräume des Gerüstes sind von TlIII-bzw. TlI-Kationen besetzt, so daß die Verbindung als valenzgemischtes Thallium (III)-thallium(I)-oxopalladat(II) formuliert werden kann. Die Verwandtschaftsverhältnisse zu den Strukturen der Platinbronzen werden diskutiert.Das entsprechende Oxoplatinat TlPt3O4 (a = 966,3(2) pm) konnte durch thermische Zersetzung von Tl2Pt2O7 erhalten werden.

The Photochemical Reaction of Mn2(CO)10 with 1,3-or 1,4-CyclohexadieneThe products of the photochemical reaction between Mn2(CO)10 and 1,3- or 1,4-cyclohexadiene have been separated by preparative layer chromatography under nitrogen and have been characterized by means of mass and infrared spectroscopy. Besides compounds which have been reported otherwere species like Mn2(CO)8C6H8 could be isolated.
    Notes: Die Produkte der photochemischen Reaktion zwischen Mn2(CO)10 und 1,3- bzw. 1,4-Cyclohexadien wurden mittels präparativer Schichtchromatographie unter Luftausschluß getrennt und anhand ihrer Massen- bzw. IR-Spektren charakterisiert. Neben bereits auf anderem Wege dargestellten Verbindungen konnten Spezies wie Mn2(CO)8C6H8 nachgewiesen werden.

    Description / Table of Contents: The System Decarbonyldimanganese/1,3-Butadiene. Characterisation of Some Reaction Products of Mn2(CO)10 with 1,3-ButadieneDecacarbonyldimanganese and 1, 3-Butadiene were reacted photochemically; the reaction products were separated by layer chromatography and characterized by their infrared and mass spectra. The compounds are sensitive to air and light and can be obtained only in extremely low yields.
    Notes: Die Reaktionsprodukte der photochemischen Reaktion zwischen Mn2(CO)10 und 1, 3-Butadien wurden mittels präparativer Schichtchromatographie getrennt und IR-spektroskopisch bzw. massenspektrometrisch charakterisiert. Die in äußerst geringen Ausbeuten anfallenden Verbindungen sind luft- und lichtempfindlich.

    California desert resource inventory using multispectral classification of digitally mosaicked Landsat frames (1979)

    Description: Procedures for adjustment of brightness values between frames and the digital mosaicking of Landsat frames to standard map projections are developed for providing a continuous data base for multispectral thematic classification. A combination of local terrain variations in the Californian deserts and a global sampling strategy based on transects provided the framework for accurate classification throughout the entire geographic region.

    Multiple-frame, full resolution Landsat mosaicking to standard map projections (1978)

    Description: Landsat digital data are presently available by frames whose size and location are determined by satellite orbit. The utility of Landsat data was increased by the image processing support for JPL's planetary program which provided the basic software and procedures necessary for image mosaicking. The computer software has been extended to perform this task on Landsat Multi-spectral scanner imagery and a ten frame digital mosaic of the Southern California desert has been completed. Major processing steps include location of geographic points in the digital frame and of common geographic points in adjacent frames, conversion to a map projection, lateral 'rubber sheet' correction of the digital frames, brightness correction of adjacent frames, and mosaicking of the frames to eliminate overlap and produce a single large frame.

    Integration of socioeconomic data and remotely sensed imagery for land use applications (1977)

    Description: The Image Based Information System (IBIS) uses techniques of digital image processing to interface geocoded data sets, information management systems, thematic maps, and remotely sensed imagery. For two cases IBIS has been used to integrate remotely sensed imagery and socioeconomic data. In the first case thematically classified Landsat imagery covering Orange County, California is combined with census tracts and municipalities. In the second case, thematically classified Landsat imagery over Los Angeles, California is combined with census tracts.
