Description / Table of Contents:
1Mixtures consisting of platinum metal powder and oxides in the powdered form of base metals were reduced by hydrogen resp. ammonia at temperatures between 900°C and 1200°C to the following intermetallic phases: Pt3Al, Pt13Al3, Pt3Sc, Pt5Y, Pt5La; Pt15Be, Pt3Mg, Pt7Mg, Pt2Ca, Pt7Ca2, Pt5Ca, Pt2Sr, Pt3Sr, Pt5Sr; Pt7Li and Pt3Cr.2The Pt2Me alloys are known Laves phases (Cu2Mg type). The Pt5Me compounds crystallize in the Cu5Ca type, with the exception of Pt5Y; the Pt3Me phases (Pt3Al and Pt3Sc being structurally elucidated) are of the Cu3Au type, with the exception of Pt3Sr. Regular superstructure phases exist between the phases of Pt and Pt3Me, of which the Pt7Me structure could be elucidated completely, the Pt13Me3 structure almost completely. As to the Pt15Me phase up to now it is only known that it has a similar structure as Pt, with a large hexagonal distorted unit cell. The transition Pt5Me → Pt2Me was investigated in the case of Ca alloys. Besides Pt7Ca2, further superstructures occur between Pt7Ca2 and Pt5Ca.3The volume chemistry of alloys of Pt with the elements of group I-III is discussed.
Notes:
