Description: Geçmişte yaşanan iklim değişikliklerinin nedenlerinin ve etkilerinin anlaşılması, insanoğlunun gelecekte karşılaşacağı çevresel değişiklikleri önceden tahmin etmesi ve önlemler alması açısından önem arz etmektedir. İnsanın yeryüzündeki varlık süresince, yani Kuvaterner’de yaşanan iklim değişiklikleri, buzul ve buzularası çağlarının yaşanmasına yol açarak, yer küreyi ve üzerinde yaşayan canlıların hayatını şekillendirmiştir. Ülkemiz de Kuvaterner buzullaşmalarının etkisinde kalmış ve Anadolu’nun farklı bölgelerindeki yüksek alanlarda gelişen buzulların bazıları günümüze kadar ulaşmıştır. İklim değişikliği etkisiyle ortadan kalkan buzulların oluşturduğu yer şekilleri ise çoğu sahada korunmuştur. Anadolu’daki buzullaşmalar ve bunlara ait yer şekilleri araştırmacılar tarafından sıklıkla çalışılmış olmakla birlikte morfometrik analizler sınırlı sayıda araştırmada uygulanabilmiştir. Buzul morfometrisi konusunda yeni yöntem ve yaklaşımlar son buzul çağının etkilerini daha net anlaşılmamıza imkân tanımaktadır. Bu araştırma kitabı ile Batı Torosların doğu ucunda yer alan ve daha önce literatürde geçmeyen Kuvaterner buzullaşmalarının izlerinin yaygın bir şekilde gördüğümüz Kuşak Dağı’nın jeomorfolojik özelliklerini arazi çalışmaları ve İHA verileri kullanarak haritalamak, ayrıca morfometrik analizlerle Kuşak Dağı ve Batı Toroslar hakkında paleoiklimsel değerlendirmelerde bulunmak hedeflenmiştir. Yine bu kitapta buzul jeomorfolojisi konusunda yeni yöntem ve yaklaşımlar ayrıntılı açıklanmaya çalışılarak bu konularda çalışacak genç araştırmacılar için Türkçe kaynak kitabı olması amaçlanmıştır.

Description: Bu kitap Cumhuriyetimizin 100. yılı anısına İstanbul Üniversitesi’nin başlatmış olduğu etkinlik kapsamında, Cumhuriyetimize armağan olarak hazırlanmıştır. Bu kitapta temel amacımız, kitabın yazarlarının yapmış oldukları uluslararası yayınları ve bilimsel çalışmaları bir bütünlük içinde bir araya getirmektir. Bu çerçevede gerekli olan temel yapılar ayrıntılı olarak verilmiştir. Yaptığımız çalışmaları, genç araştırmacıların dikkatine sunmak ve bu konuların ülkemizde yaygınlaşmasını sağlamak hedeflenmektedir. Kitap beş bölümden oluşmaktadır. Birinci bölümde Ön Bilgiler başlığı altında kitapta kullanılan fonksiyonel analiz, ölçü kuramı, soyut harmonik analizi ve Fourier analizine ilişkin temel kavramlar verilerek alt yapı kurulmaktadır. İkinci bölümde dışbükey fonksiyonlar ve temel özellikleri üzerinde durulmuştur. Üçüncü ve Dördüncü bölümler, bu kitabın temel çalışma konusu olan Young fonksiyonları ve Orlicz fonksiyon uzaylarına ayrılmıştır. Beşinci bölüm kitabın ana hedefini oluşturmaktadır. Burada İstanbul Üniversitesi, Matematik Bölümünde bu kitabın yazarları tarafından Orlicz uzayları üzerine yapılan bilimsel çalışmalardan ve uygulamalardan kesitler sunulmuştur. Bu çalışmalar, (soyut) harmonik analiz, Fourier analizi, zaman-frekans analizi ve fonksiyonel analiz gibi matematiksel analizin dallarını kapsamaktadır. Description: This book is the first Finnish-language collection of research on superdiversity. At the core of the book is the growing migration to Finland since the turn of the 1990s and its numerous effects on Finnish society. The interdisciplinary examination of superdiversity is important at the current moment: Finland as a society has reached the point where certain social categories, such as ethnic background, country of birth, mother tongue or gender, are not necessarily sufficient to understand the increased diversity and its consequences. The book consists of a comprehensive introduction to the topic and thirteen chapters. In Finland, research on superdiversity is carried out especially in critical sociolinguistics and applied language studies, education, cultural studies, social sciences, and urban studies. Therefore, these disciplines are strongly represented in the collection, and the chapters approach a variety of topics including refugees’ mental health, experiences of multilingual families, the diversity of education and working life, discursive practices in social media, issues of urban planning and pro-asylum activism.

Description: The word orphan, derived from the root “yütm” meaning “to be alone, to be left alone”, expresses the uniqueness of the object. Being an orphan can be understood as a child being unprotected in terms of meeting his/her basic needs and observing his/her rights. Although the duty of protection and support is traditionally attributed to the father, it would be more appropriate to understand the concept of an orphan as a child who has lost material and spiritual support that would protect him from dangers even if his parents are alive. The fact that the term orphan is used in daily language in our civilization to evoke this situation also confirms the meaning. Our Holy Qur’an emphasizes the importance of protecting the rights of certain social groups to strengthen justice and solidarity in society. In the process of building a just and peaceful world, the poor, stranded travelers, close relatives, neighbors, and the needy can be immediately listed among these groups whose rights should be respected first and foremost. Among these groups, orphans are another group that is particularly emphasized. Orphanhood is not only associated with not being wealthy. Since orphanhood is used for children who are not capable of protecting and defending their rights, it is also a concept directly related to children’s rights. Therefore, treating the phenomenon of orphanhood within child rights will significantly contribute to understanding rights and freedom. A system of thought based on the protection of all children in this situation and the institutionalization of social solidarity in light of this can initiate a process that will bring about a perspective and institutionalization that can be extended to all rights. For all these reasons, it is of great importance that the Symposium on Orphans and Abandoned Children, which deals with the phenomenon of orphanhood from a scientific point of view and brings together academics, experts, and practitioners from different disciplines related to the subject, was organized on the World Children’s Day and that the academic papers here have been published as a book.

Çocuğun yetim kalması ise aslî ihtiyaçlarının karşılanması, himaye edilmesi ve haklarının korunması bakımından sahipsiz kalması olarak anlaşılabilir. Geleneksel olarak himaye etme ve destek olma vazifesi babaya nispet edilse de, yetim kavramını bir çocuğun ebeveynleri sağ olsa da onu tehlikelerden koruyacak her türlü desteği yitirmiş olması olarak anlamak daha yerinde olacaktır. Medeniyet iklimimizde günlük dilde yetim ifadesinin bu durumu çağrıştıracak şekilde kullanılması da anlamı teyit etmektedir. Yüce kitabımız Kur’an-ı Kerim toplumda adaletin ve dayanışmanın güçlenmesi için bazı sosyal grupların haklarının gözetilmesinin önemine vurgu yapmaktadır. Adil ve barış içinde bir dünyanın inşa sürecinde hakları en başta gözetilmesi gereken bu gruplar içinde, yoksullar, yolda kalmışlar, yakın akrabalar, komşular, muhtaçlar hemen sıralanabilir. İşte bu gruplar arasında özellikle vurgulanan bir diğer grup yetimlerdir. Yetimlik sadece varsıl olmamakla ilişkilendirilemez. Yetimlik, haklarını koruyabilecek ve savunabilecek yeterlikte olmayan çocuklar için kullanıldığından doğrudan çocuk hakları ile ilgili bir kavram olarak da karşımıza çıkmaktadır. Dolayısıyla yetimlik olgusunu çocuk hakları içinde değerlendirmek, hak ve özgürlükler anlayışına da önemli katkılar yapabilecek bir yaklaşımı beraberinde getirecektir. Böyle durumda olan tüm çocukları korumayı esas alan bir düşünce sistemi ve bunun ışığında sosyal dayanışmanın kurumsal hale getirilmesi, tüm haklara teşmil edilebilecek bir bakış açısını ve kurumsallaşmayı beraberinde getirecek süreci başlatabilir. Tüm bu nedenlerle yetimlik olgusunu bilimsel bir bakış ile ele alan, konu ile ilgili farklı disiplinlerden akademisyenleri, uzmanları ve uygulayıcıları bir araya getiren Yetim ve Kimsesiz Çocuklar Sempozyumu’nun Dünya Çocuk Hakları Gününde düzenlenmiş olması ve buradaki tebliğlerin kitaplaşmış olması çok büyük önem arz etmektedir.

Description: Social reportages are written by reporters who fight for the weak and expose injustices. So it is said in the profession, in handbooks and among the genre’s supporters. But what is hidden behind the ideal? And what does the commitment look like when it is converted into text? This book highlights reportages by some of the 20th century’s most celebrated Swedish reporters and examines the ways in which their texts convey a commitment to the reader. The narratologically based analyses are performed against a background of changing ideas about a reporter’s role in society. It turns out that the commitment is often time-related and can be counteracted by generalizing values about the depicted people. Here, the difference between empathy and compassion becomes crucial. The selected reporters represent Swedish social reportage at central turning points within the tradition. Ester Blenda Nordström and Gustaf Hellström have been chosen for the 1910s, Ivar Lo-Johansson for the years around 1930, Barbro Alving for the 1950s, Jan Guillou for the 1970s and Maciej Zaremba and Karen Söderberg for the 1990s and 2000s.

Description: This book highlights the diverse roles of the humanities in the history of the Swedish welfare society. This society has often been seen as dominated by an instrumental view of knowledge that rewarded the social sciences, natural sciences and technology, but the contributions in this book show the significant role that the humanities played in the Swedish welfare state. Various forms of humanistic knowledge and knowledge actors were part of large networks and left a clear mark on the public sphere and society at large. A narrative of the marginalization and crisis of the humanities in the postwar period must therefore be problematized. This edited volume brings together some twenty scholars from a number of humanities disciplines (history, history of ideas, media history, literary studies, archaeology, education, etc.). Much of the current research on the history of the humanities conducted in Sweden today is brought together here and put in relation to international discussions in fields such as history of humanities, history of knowledge, etc. The book is a sibling to the monograph Humanister i offentligheten, which was published in 2022.

Realistic utopias, tensions and everyday experiences, 24 researchers explore how resistance to various forms of racism is pursued and embodied among groups of people who dream beyond racism in a variety of ways, often contradictory, rarely successful, but always stubborn and forward-looking. The anthology illustrates the breadth of anti-racism, but also analyses its problems and weaknesses. Inspired by anti-, post- and decolonial traditions, among others, together with social movement perspectives, the anthology challenges a static and essentialising approach found in research and policy that tends to emphasise the stability and immutability of inequality, even in the case of racism. In addition to a variety of concrete analyses and descriptions of historical and contemporary activism, the various authors also show the possibilities of anti-racism and can thus provide some hope, in these dark times, for those who want a society without racism. Description: Cumhuriyetimizin yüzüncü yıldönümünü idrak ettiğimiz 2023 yılında Türkiye Ekonomisi’nin yüz yıllık yolculuğunun çeşitli yönleriyle incelenmesi ve böylece Fakültemizin ilk iktisat kongresinden itibaren atılmaya başlanan kuruluş tohumlarının 1936 yılında filizlenmesiyle Türkiye Ekonomisi’nin fikri sahada en önemli aktörü olan İktisat Fakültemizin de Cumhuriyetimizin ikinci yüzyılına girerken, geçen yüzyılın önemli tanıklarından biri olması hasebiyle geniş kurumsal kültürü ve yetkin kadrosuyla tanıklığını dillendirme görev ve sorumluğunun bulunduğuna şüphe yoktur. Fakültemizin bu anlamlı yılda her biri kendi alanında birbirinden değerli yazıların yer aldığı bu esere imza atması hepimiz için büyük bir gurur ve memnuniyet vesilesi olmuştur. Kitapta Cumhuriyetimizin ilk yüz yılında Türkiye Ekonomisi; mali, siyasi, hukuki, sosyolojik ve davranış bilimleriyle ilişkisi ve etkileşimi çerçevesinde ele alınmış ve böylece bu döneme global bir perspektiften yaklaşılması amaçlanmıştır. Description: Since COVID-19 entered our lives, it has affected our social life, our working life, our lifestyle, our patient care services, our research, and even our behavioral style. Moreover, this epidemic has affected not only one country but also all countries of the world at the same time and with a similar intensity. Almost the health systems of the countries were tested with a test consisting of the same questions. During the pandemic, many unknown equations were intertwined. We had so many unknowns at the beginning of the epidemic. We did not yet clearly know how we approached patients, how to treat them, and what drugs should be given. Over the past two years, much research and many experiences have taught us how to behave against the disease. During the pandemic, we learned by experience how damaging information pollution can be. The epidemic also showed us the vaccine wars. We have seen how valuable the vaccines we use to get rid of the epidemic are, how developed countries have entered vaccine wars, and the change in the dynamics of the epidemic with vaccination. The years 2020-2022 will be defined as the epidemic years. During this epidemic, we saw that it was precious for physicians to get the correct information. This source has been tried to be created thanks to the fact that it has written down the experiences gained by experiencing this epidemic in person. We would like to express our sincere thanks to all our friends who contributed to the creation of the book. We hope this book will benefit readers.

Description: COVID-19 hayatımıza girdiği tarihten beri sosyal hayatımızı, çalışma hayatımızı, yaşayışımızı, hasta bakım hizmetlerini, araştırmalarımızı ve hatta davranış tarzımızı etkiledi. Üstelik bu öyle bir salgın ki sadece bir ülkede değil, bütün dünya ülkelerinde aynı zamanda ve benzer yoğunlukta etkilendi. Adeta ülkelerin sağlık sistemleri aynı sorulardan oluşan bir sınavla sınandı. Salgın sırasında birçok bilinmeyen denklem iç içe idi. Salgın başında o kadar çok bilinmeyenimiz vardı ki. Hastalara nasıl yaklaştığımızı, nasıl tedavi vereceğimizi ve hangi ilaçların verilmesi gerektiğini henüz net bir şekilde bilmiyorduk. Geçen iki yıl zarfında birçok araştırma ve birçok deneyim bizim hastalığa karşı nasıl davranmamız gerektiğini öğretti. Salgın sırasında bilgi kirliliğinin ne kadar zarar verebilir olduğunu yaşayarak öğrendik. Salgın bize birde aşı savaşlarını gösterdi. Salgından kurtulmak için kullandığımız aşıların ne kadar değerli olduğunu, gelişmiş ülkelerin nasıl aşı savaşlarına girdiğini aşılama ile beraber salgın dinamiklerindeki değişimi gördük. 2020-2022 yılları salgın yılları olarak tanımlanacaktır. Bu salgın sırasında hekimlerin doğru bilgilerin ulaşmasının çok değerli olduğunu gördük. Elinizdeki bu kaynak salgını bizzat yaşayarak elde edilen tecrübelerini yazıya dökmesi sayesinde oluşturulmaya çalışılmıştır. Kitabın oluşturulmasındaki emeği olan tüm arkadaşlarımıza içten teşekkürlerimizi arz ediyoruz. Bu kitabın okuyuculara fayda getirmesini diliyoruz. Bu kitabı, canı pahasına COVID-19 ile savaşan ve hayatını kaybeden tüm sağlık çalışanlarına armağan ediyoruz.

Description: The present volume, a collection of papers focusing on Venice and those former Venetian colonies which passed to the Ottoman Empire during the early Modern age, retraces the relationship between Venetians and Ottomans in terms of their economic and social history from the end of the XV to the XVIII century showing the permeability of the ruling forces of these two great empires within a continuous and changing stream.

Description: Turkic World studies seem to be a topic that attracts scientific attention day by day. The continuous increase in cooperation, rapprochement, and mobility between Turkish-speaking countries and communities since 1991 might be shown as the main dynamic behind this interest. The richness of the Turkic Republics in terms of natural resources, their location on the energy and transportation corridors, the change of the balances in the Caucasus with the Second Karabakh War in 2020, and the transition of the Turkic Council from a cooperation organization to an interstate organization in 2021 under the name of the "Organization of Turkic States" also accelerate the work of the Turkic World. In the meantime, the popularization of some geopolitical determinations and predictions in the context of scientific interest in the region can be shown as an important factor. Similar to the rise of Europe in the industrial age, we can talk about the rise of Asia in the information age. The sources of political and economic power are shifting to Asian geopolitics and this process continues to strengthen. Such analyses and predictions, which bring to the agenda that in the 2050s, Asia will regain its former central position also encourage academic interest in Central Asia. This book is the product of the goal of creating an original work for the Turkish World with gap-filling parameters and process analyses determined by a meticulous preliminary study in the light of the mentioned background. In this direction, three basic perspectives such as the effort to determine the capacities of the countries with comparative analyses, to look at the Turkish World from the perspective of problems, and to embody the Turkish World based on the community, autonomous region, and country sections dominate the work. With comparative analyses, it has been tried to embody the capacities of the countries within the parameters such as sustainable development potential, transportation systems, scientific performance, evolution in the political system, education system, and values of education. On the other hand, the crises affecting the Turkic World were discussed with the analysis of Karabakh, which is the main crisis, and the Russia-Ukraine War, which is the current crisis. On the other hand, the analysis of the thirty-year process in the Turkish World, starting from the scales of the community, autonomous region, and country, was carried out through the examples of Georgia, Tatarstan, and Uzbekistan.

Description: Türk Dünyası çalışmaları bilimsel ilgiyi giderek üzerine çeken bir konu başlığı görünümündedir. Bu ilginin arka planında yer alan başlıca dinamik olarak, Türkçe konuşan ülke ve topluluklar arasında 1991 yılından bugüne; iş birliği, yakınlaşma ve mobilitedeki sürekli artış gösterilebilir. Türk Cumhuriyetlerinin doğal kaynaklar bakımından zengin olması, aynı zamanda enerji ve ulaşım koridorları üzerinde yer almaları, 2020’deki İkinci Karabağ Savaşıyla Kafkasya’daki dengelerin değişmesi ve Türk Konseyi’nin 2021 yılında “Türk Devletleri Teşkilatı” adını alarak bir iş birliği örgütünden devletlerarası teşkilata geçiş süreci içine girmesi gibi gelişmeler de Türk Dünyası çalışmalarına ivme kazandırmaktadır. Bu arada bölgeye olan bilimsel ilgi bağlamında bazı jeopolitik tespit ve öngörülerin popülerleşmesinden de bahsedilebilir. Buna göre sanayi çağında Avrupa’nın yükselişine benzer bir şekilde bilgi çağında da Asya’nın yükselişi söz konusudur. Politik ve ekonomik güç kaynakları Asya jeopolitiğine kaymakta ve bu süreç güçlenerek devam etmektedir. Asya’nın 2050’li yıllarda eski merkezi konumuna tekrar ulaşacağını gündeme taşıyan bu tarz analiz ve öngörüler Orta Asya’ya yönelik akademik ilgiyi de teşvik edici niteliktedir. Bu kitap bahsedilen arka planın ışığı altında, titiz bir ön çalışmayla belirlenen boşluk doldurucu parametreler ve süreç analizleriyle Türk Dünyasına yönelik özgün bir eser oluşturma hedefinin ürünüdür. Bu doğrultuda; karşılaştırmalı analizlerle ülke kapasitelerini belirleme çabası, Türk Dünyasına sorunlar penceresinden bakma ve yine Türk Dünyasını topluluk, özerk bölge ve ülke kesitlerinden hareketle somutlaştırma gibi üç temel bakış açısı esere hâkimdir. Karşılaştırmalı analizlerle ülke kapasitelerini somutlaştırma; sürdürülebilir kalkınma potansiyeli, ulaşım sistemleri, bilimsel performans, siyasal sistemdeki evrim, eğitim sistemi ve değerler eğitimi gibi parametreler dâhilinde gerçekleştirilmeye çalışılmıştır. Türk Dünyasını etkileyen krizler ise; başlıca kriz konumunda olan Karabağ ve güncel kriz olan Rusya-Ukrayna Savaşına yönelik analizlerle ele alınmıştır. Türk Dünyasındaki otuz yıllık sürece topluluk, özerk bölge ve ülke ölçeklerinden hareketle göz atma ise; Gürcistan, Tataristan ve Özbekistan örnekleri üzerinden gerçekleştirilmiştir.

Description: Yaşlanma, hayatın kaçınılmaz ve ertelenemez bir parçasıdır. Yaşlanma ile birlikte hücrelerimizde ve organlarımızda fonksiyonel ve yapısal önemli değişiklikler olmaktadır. Dünyada 20.Yüzyılın başında başlayan hızlı nüfus artışı ile birlikte yaşam şartlarında düzelme ve tedavi seçeneklerinin artması yaşlı nüfus sayısının da artmasına neden olmuştur. 2030 yılında, dünya üzerinde her altı kişiden birinin 60 yaş üzerinde olacağı öngörülmüştür. 80 yaş üzerindeki bireylerin ise 426 milyon olması beklenmektedir. Bu artış nedeniyle tek başına “yaşlı” kavramı yeterli olmamış, genç yaşlılık (65-74 yaş), orta yaşlılık (75-84 yaş) ileri yaşlılık (〉85 yaş) kavramlarının kullanılması gerektiği öne sürülmüştür. Bir ülkenin yaşlı nüfusunun toplam nüfusa oranı %8-10 arasında olması ülkenin ‘’yaşlı’’, %10 üzerinde olması ‘’çok yaşlı’’ olduğu anlamına gelmektedir. Ülkemizde bu oranın 2050 yılından %20.8 olması beklenmektedir. 2030 yılında ise ortalama yaşam süresi 74-79 yıl olacaktır. Yaşlanmanın toplumlarda artışı bazı sağlık sorunlarının daha sık görülmesine neden olmaktadır. Buna paralel olarak 65 yaş üzerindeki bireylerin dahili hastalıkları, psikososyal yaşamları ve beraberinde koruyucu sağlık hizmetleri ile ilgilenen geriatri bilim dalı giderek artan bir öneme sahip olmaktadır. Yaşlanma, diğer organ sistemlerinde olduğu gibi böbreklerde de moleküler, fonksiyonel ve yapısal değişikliklere neden olmaktadır. Yaşlanmaya yanıt olarak böbreklerde hemodinamik ve fizyolojik önemli değişiklikler ortaya çıkar. İyileşme süresi uzar, hasarlanmaya dayanma yeteneği azalır. Ayrıca yaşla birlikte artan ve böbrek hastalıklarının en önemli nedenlerinden olan hipertansiyon ve diyabet gibi hastalıklarda akut ve kronik böbrek hastalığının yaşlılarda daha sık görülmesine neden olur. Yaşlılarda, böbrek hastalığının yanı sıra çoklu hastalıkların birlikte olması, polifarmasi ihtiyacı, ilaç metabolizmasının karaciğer fonksiyonlarındaki değişiklikler gibi çeşitli nedenlerle farklılaşması nefrologların ya da böbrek hastalıklarının tedavisi ile uğraşan hekimlerin günlük pratiklerinde göz önünde bulundurmaları gereken kavramlardır. Ne yazık ki geriatrik nefroloji kavramı, nefroloji ve İç hastalıkları eğitimi içinde yeterli öneme kavuşamamıştır. Ülkemizde ve dünya da geriatrik nefroloji alanında az sayıda bilimsel çalışma mevcuttur. Konuyla ilgili başvuru kitabı ise hemen hemen hiç yoktur. Bu alandaki boşluğu kısmen de olsa doldurmayı amaçlayan bu kitap nefroloji ve geriatri bilim dallarında çalışan bilim insanlarının katkıları ve özverileriyle oluşmuştur.

Description: Michael Agricola’s main work is the New Testament, published in 1548, a magnificent quarto volume of 700 pages with a hundred woodcuts. The basic text used was the Greek text published by Erasmus, Erasmus’ Latin translation, the Vulgate, the Luther Bible and the Swedish Bible from 1541. The 450 marginal glosses come from the Luther Bible and the Swedish Bible. In his translation, Agricola distinguished “the Holy Spirit’s own words,” i.e. H. the Bible text, the prefaces and marginal glosses, which were only intended to provide “clearer understanding”. The word of God is much more valuable than the word of man, so that the translator was closely tied to the text. A free translation was out of the question, let alone consciously improving the text. He was able to proceed more freely with the prefaces and marginal glosses. Most of the time he translated verbatim, but did not shy away from omissions, additions and changes when he deemed them appropriate. In this critical edition, Agricola’s marginal glosses on the New Testament are printed in parallel with their sources.

Description: With the onset of integration of web technologies into our lives, a global transformation process has been triggered and traditional approaches have tended to evolve into digital organisms as a past aspect of the millennium line. The one-way information transfer process, which was activated with the Web 1.0 era, took root on the basis of content sharing and 'collaboration' with Web 2.0, and was characterized in a 'smart' and 'individualized' form with the Web 3.0, and eventually ended up searching for an artificial intelligence-oriented direction. The developments in machine learning, deep learning, and natural language processing algorithms, on the other hand, were crowned with the Web 4.0 technology, and the artificial intelligence-based virtual reality atmospheres became the center of attention as the new phenomenon of digital. As far as the relevant perspective is concerned, it is possible to say that today's modernization standards are shaped within the framework of technology. While the parameters of the 'new generation world' are built on the digital plane, the 'new generation of people' generations develop specifically in the skills of this plane.

Web 1.0 dönemi ile aktif hale gelen tek yönlü bilgi aktarımı süreci, Web 2.0 ile içerik paylaşımı’ ve ‘iş birliği’ yapabilme temelinde kök salmış; Web 3.0 ile ‘akıllı’ ve ‘bireyselleştirilmiş’ bir formda karakterize edilerek yapay zeka eksenli bir yön bulma arayışı içerisine girmiştir. Makine öğrenmesi, derin öğrenme ve doğal dil işleme algoritmalarındaki gelişmeler ise Web 4.0 teknolojisiyle taçlanmış ve yapay zeka tabanlı sanal gerçeklik atmosferleri, dijitalin yeni fenomeni olarak ilgi odağı haline gelmiştir. Bu paradigmaların öğrenme ortamlarına yansımasıyla geleneksel sınıf atmosferleri algısında radikal değişikliklerin meydana geldiğini söylemek mümkündür. Dijital eğitim uygulamaları, yüz yüze eğitim metodunun bir alternatifi olmanın ötesinde pedagojinin başat unsuru olma yönünde hızla gelişim gösterirken öğretmen ve öğrenci arasındaki etkileşim süreci, çevrim içi merkezli öğretim tasarımları merceğinde desenlenme dönüşümü göstermektedir. Dil eğitimi sahası da ilgili entegrasyondan etkilenmekte ve yeni nesil dil becerileri, dijital yeterlikler ekseninde evrim geçirme haliyle karşımıza çıkmaktadır. Dolayısıyla yabancı dil olarak Türkçe öğretimi olgusu, yabancı dil olarak dijital Türkçe öğretimi çerçevesinde kavramsallaşmakta; bir başka deyişle teknoloji tabanlı beceriler odaklı örnek dil tanımlayıcılarıyla (illustrative descriptors) betimlenme eğilimi sergilemektedir. Dolayısıyla çalışma sınırları çerçevesinde tanıtılan aynı dijital araçların, farklı bölüm metinlerinde farklı işlevlerine yönelik çeşitli özelliklerinin zengin örneklendirmeler aracılığıyla ön plana çıkartılmasına dikkat edilmiştir. İlgili düzlemde çalışmadan yararlanacak olan araştırmacı, eğitmen ve eğitmen adaylarına; dijital teknoloji araçlarının yabancı dil öğretiminde kullanımına ilişkin geniş bir perspektif sunmak temel ilke edinilmiştir. Description: Avaldsnes on Karmøy in Rogaland, which according to Snorre was King Harald Fairhair's royal estate, has been the center of a major research effort since 2007. Extensive excavations have, among other things, uncovered the remains of a lordly settlement from the AD 200s–400s and the ruins of a royal masonry complex from around AD 1300. Important insights have been gained about the place, the region, and the history of the Norwegian kingdom, and the results are also of significance for international scholarly debates. The papers in this book are based on lectures from the Karmøy Seminar 2022, and have a joint spotlight on the nature of lordship and kingship. The themes range from tribal societies in Roman times via the first kings of the Viking Age to the Norwegian kingdom's collapse at Håkon 6. Magnusson's death in 1380. Prominent professionals from Norway, Sweden and England discuss, among other things, the migrations of Ryger, Goths, and other tribes in the continent in the first centuries AD, the queens and queen mothers of the Viking Age, Harald Fairhair's overseas contacts, and the Norwegian kingship's roots in Nordvegen, the sailing route along the western coast of the Scandinavian Peninsula. The papers are written to be readable by scholars as well as the interested public.

Description: In this book, five experienced Nordic L1-didactitians and teacher educators search for their professional roots as pupils, students, teachers, teacher educators, managers and researchers over a period of fifty years. In the form of the scientific essay, various historical professional struggles and processes that may lie behind this professionalisation are examined, partly from a critical perspective: Academisation, theorising, didacticisation, textualisation, and internationalisation, especially within first language (L1), L1 didactics and L1 didactic research. Documentation and discussion of the complex relationship between institutionalised academic operations and personal and collective knowledge development nevertheless constitute a main line in the presentation. The L1 subjects in which the descriptions are anchored are Danish, Finnish Swedish, Norwegian and Swedish. The contributions provide personal, experience-based, historical representations of the development contextualized with the narrators' own research in the field as well as descriptions of general development trends within schools, education, and society. A framing chapter provides methodological and theoretical premises for the texts and a concluding chapter analyses the content of and discusses the outcome of the essays. The book is aimed at anyone who is interested in the development of professional teacher training on a Nordic basis, especially native language and subject didactics. Although Per-Olof Erixon and Sigmund Ongstad are editors, the book has been created in close collaboration with the other contributors, Sven-Erik Hansén, Ellen Krogh, and Jon Smidt.

Description: The biography of Margaret Darling Kilpinen (1896–1965) represents the fields of music history and women’s studies. It brings forth a woman who is of pliable but also strong character. She was active for over four decades in the musical life of Finland. What kind of professional role, combining performing and pedagogical work, was she able to build for herself? She was the wife of a well-known, strong-willed composer who had many ties to Germany, and also the mother of a daughter. How was she able to keep up her own artistry? The book deals with Margaret’s role as a solo and lied pianist, her long career as a pedagogue in the Sibelius Academy and as a harpsichord player with a part in the rise of old music in Finland in the 1930s. There is also the microhistorical angle: While looking at Margaret as a person and her life, general tendencies and attitudes among the cultural circles of Finland of her time are revealed. The main source material for the book, which is available for use for the very first time, has been the correspondence between Yrjö and Margaret Kilpinen.

Description: Fire scene investigators examine the physical characteristics of a fire scene and identify and collect physical evidence at the scene. This evidence is then analyzed to help determine whether the cause of the fire was accidental or intentional. During the fire scene investigation, investigators may find evidence that could point to criminal activity, such as accelerants, damaged vehicles, and certain burn patterns. As a study aimed at developing new tools and techniques for interpreting, identifying, and analyzing evidence at the scene of a fire, this book will hopefully contribute to the improvement of fire research and help fill a gap in this field in our country.

Description: The book approaches the history of Finnish development cooperation through the experiences of development aid workers. At its core is a small group of Finns (experts and officials from different fields) who have worked with international development aid in Asia, Africa and Latin America. Their memories and experiences, together with diverse archival material offer an interesting window into the world of development (cooperation), or “Aidland”, from the 1960s to the turn of the millennium. The research focuses on the personal motives and experiences of Finnish aid workers from the 1960s to the 2000s. The book offers perspectives on the historical construction of Aidland since the 1940s and on the gradual integration of Finland and the Finns into its structures. It describes the mindset of the first two generations of aid workers and the factors that made them interested in developing countries. The book follows their education, their first contacts with Aidland, adaptation to work and conditions, returning home and the challenges that come with it. The study gives the reader a view of the power positions, hierarchies and contradictions in Aidland and development cooperation, which at times led Finns to reassess their motives and justify to themselves the meaningfulness of the entire undertaking. Through their experiences, the book also deals with the less-known side of development cooperation, such as corruption, prejudices, and opposition to development projects, as well as their occasionally unwanted consequences in partner/recipient countries. It also sheds light on the effects of the Aidland experience on an individual’s worldview and identity. The book is an academic study suitable for a wide audience, from university students to ordinary readers interested in development cooperation. The book helps to understand both the history of development and the construction of multi-level connections of Finnish society with the countries of the Global South. It is therefore also ideally suited for readers interested in the development of Finland’s internationalization in the late twentieth century. For its part, the book contributes to wider public debates on development cooperation.

Description: The Mamluks (648-923/1250-1517), who ruled Egypt, Syria, and the Hijaz region, are considered to be one of the most important Muslim-Turkish states in Islamic history because they put an end to the Crusader threat in Syria and stopped the westward advance of the Mongols (Ilkhanids) who had destroyed the eastern part of the Islamic world. The Mamluks’ establishment of security and stability in their lands enabled the ulama, who were affected by the political turmoil in Andalusia and Anatolia, as well as central Iraq and Iran in the early 7th/13th century, to turn to the Egyptian-Sham region. In addition to the political stability they created, the Mamluks built many scientific institutions in cities such as Cairo, Damascus, Aleppo, and Jerusalem. They provided wide opportunities to scholars, making these cities the most important centers of knowledge. The rich scholarly environment in Egypt and Damascus, which attracted many scholars from various parts of the Islamic world, paved the way for the writing of many works in almost every field of Islamic sciences and the emergence of new and voluminous encyclopedic genres. Thus, an enormous amount of literature was created in fiqh, hadith, tafsīr, kalām, mysticism, philosophy, logic, qirāʾa, sīra, history, and tabāqat. The understanding and interpretation of this literature, which is the result of an unprecedented scholarly effort in Islamic history, requires the contribution of many researchers in different fields. As a result of this need, interest in the scholarly and cultural accumulation of the Mamluk period is increasing both in international academic circles and in our country. Although the number and quality of studies on the political history of the Mamluks are not yet at the desired level, some studies have been conducted in the Turkish literature. However, research on the ulama, scientific institutions, types of works, and the status of Islamic sciences during the Mamluk period is still in its infancy. To overcome this deficiency to some extent, the Institute of Islamic Studies at Istanbul University (then known as the Center for Islamic Studies at Istanbul University) organized a workshop titled Islamic Sciences in the Mamluk Period on 19-20 September 2019. Thus, it was aimed to evaluate the status of the studies on the ulama and Islamic sciences related to the Mamluk period, to propose new research topics in the areas of need, to ensure cooperation among those interested in this field, and to create a basis for future studies. At the end of this workshop, the need to organize an international meeting with wide participation in the scholarly tradition in the Mamluk period was expressed. For this purpose, an international symposium titled The Tradition of Knowledge in the Mamluk Period-I (13th and 14th Centuries) was organized on September 28-29, 2021, hosted by Istanbul University in cooperation with the Institute of Islamic Studies at Istanbul University and the Foundation for Research in Islamic Sciences (ISAV). In the symposium, many researchers made presentations on tafsīr, hadith, fiqh, historiography, philosophy, kalām, mysticism, culture-literature, ulama, and scientific institutions. This book was formed by revising some of the papers presented at the symposium during the publication phase. The full text of the relevant papers has been reviewed and turned into articles. The thematically re-planned book consists of seven chapters: Qurʾānic Sciences and Tafsīr, Fiqh Thought and Literature, Hanafi Fiqh and Hadith Studies, Kalām, History and Sīra Writing, Language and Literature, Scientific Institutions and Ulama. Memlüklerin hâkim oldukları topraklarda güven ve istikrar temin etmeleri, 7./13. asrın başlarında Endülüs ve Anadolu coğrafyası ile merkezî Irak ve İran topraklarında yaşanan siyasi karmaşa ortamından etkilenen ulemanın Mısır-Şam bölgesine yönelmesini sağlamıştır. Memlükler oluşturdukları siyasi istikrarın yanında Kahire, Dımaşk, Halep ve Kudüs gibi şehirlerde inşa ettikleri çok sayıda ilim kurumu ve ulemaya sundukları geniş imkânlarla bu şehirlerin en önemli ilim merkezleri haline gelmesini sağlamışlardır. Bu vesileyle İslâm dünyasının çeşitli bölgelerinden çok sayıda âlimin yöneldiği Mısır ve Şam şehirlerinde oluşan zengin ilmî ortam, İslâmî ilimlerin hemen her sahasında pek çok eserin kaleme alınmasına, aynı zamanda yeni ve hacimli ansiklopedik tarzda telif türlerinin ortaya çıkmasına zemin hazırlamıştır. Böylece fıkıh, hadis, tefsir, kelâm, tasavvuf, felsefe, mantık, kıraat, siyer, tarih ve tabakat ilimlerinde muazzam bir literatür oluşmuştur. İslâm tarihinde eşine az rastlanan bir ilmî mesainin sonucu olarak ortaya konan bu literatürün anlaşılması ve yorumlanması farklı alanlarda pek çok araştırmacının katkısına ihtiyaç duymaktadır. Bu ihtiyacın bir sonucu olarak Memlükler dönemindeki ilmî ve kültürel birikime yönelik ilgi gerek uluslararası akademik çevrelerde gerekse ülkemizde giderek artmaktadır. Memlüklerin siyasi tarihine dair sayısı ve niteliği henüz arzulanan seviyede olmamakla birlikte Türkçe literatürde bazı çalışmalar yapılmıştır. Ancak Memlükler döneminde ulema, ilim kurumları, telif eser türleri ve İslâmî ilimlerin durumu hakkındaki araştırmalar henüz başlangıç düzeyindedir. Bu konudaki eksikliğin bir nebze dahi olsa giderilmesi amacıyla İstanbul Üniversitesi İslâm Tetkikleri Enstitüsü (o zamanki ismiyle İstanbul Üniversitesi İslam Araştırmaları Uygulama ve Araştırma Merkezi) tarafından 19-20 Eylül 2019 tarihlerinde Memlükler Döneminde İslâmî İlimler adıyla bir çalıştay düzenlenmiştir. Böylece Memlükler dönemiyle ilgili ulema ve İslâmî ilimler hakkındaki çalışmaların durumunun değerlendirilmesi, ihtiyaç duyulan alanlarda yeni araştırma konularının teklif edilmesi, bu sahanın ilgilileri arasında iş birliğinin sağlanması ve yapılacak çalışmalar için bir zemin oluşturulması amaçlanmıştır. Yine bu çalıştayın sonunda Memlükler dönemindeki ilim geleneğine dair geniş katılımlı uluslararası bir toplantının düzenlenmesi ihtiyacı dile getirilmiştir. Bunun için İstanbul Üniversitesi İslâm Tetkikleri Enstitüsü ile İslâmî İlimler Araştırma Vakfı’nın (İSAV) iş birliği ile 28-29 Eylül 2021 tarihlerinde İstanbul Üniversitesinin ev sahipliğinde Memlükler Dönemi İlim Geleneği-I (XIII.-XIV. Yüzyıllar) adıyla uluslararası sempozyum tertip edilmiştir. Sempozyumda tefsir, hadis, fıkıh, tarih yazıcılığı, felsefe, kelâm, tasavvuf, kültür-edebiyat, ulema ve ilim kurumlarına dair birçok araştırmacı tarafından sunumlar gerçekleştirilmiştir. Elinizdeki kitap sempozyumda sunulan bazı tebliğlerin yayın aşamasında tekrar gözden geçirilmesiyle teşekkül etmiştir. Tam metin olarak hazırlanan ilgili tebliğler hakemlik sürecine tabi tutularak makale haline getirilmiştir. Tematik olarak yeniden planlanan kitap Kur’ân İlimleri ve Tefsir, Fıkıh Düşüncesi ve Literatürü, Hanefî Fıkhı ve Hadis Çalışmaları, Kelâm, Tarih ve Siyer Yazıcılığı, Dil ve Edebiyat, İlim Kurumları ve Ulema başlıklı yedi bölümden oluşmaktadır.

Endüstrileşmiş ülkelerdeki gıda kökenli hastalıkların başlıca nedeni yanlış veya eksik uygulanan işleme teknikleri, nakliye, depolama ve hijyen/sanitasyon problemlerinden kaynaklandığı bilinmektedir. Gıdalarda patojen/saprofit mikroorganizmalar ve kimyasal etkenler kalite kayıplarına ve bozulmalara yol açabileceği gibi sağlık sorunları yaratarak bireyin ve toplumun geleceğini de etkileyebilmektedir. Bu sorunlar özellikle son yıllarda “Gıda Güvenliği” teriminin toplum açısından önem kazanmasına neden olmuştur. Sağlıklı bir üretimin ilk şartı kaliteli hammaddedir. Güvenli ve kaliteli ürün elde edilebilmesi için de ham (taze üründen) materyalden işlenmiş ürüne kadar, etkili gıda güvenliği ve kalite kontrol uygulamaları zorunluluk arz etmektedir. Kalite ile ilgili olarak belirlenen hedeflere ve standartlara ulaşmak için uygulanan teknikler ve yapılan faaliyetleri içeren kalite kontrol ve işletmelerin devamlılıkları açısından dikkat etmeleri gereken en önemli konulardan birisidir. Description: İstanbul Üniversitesi Yayınları’nın çağrısı üzerine hazırladığımız ve Cumhuriyetin 100.yılına armağan etmek istediğimiz bu küçük çalışmamızı hatırat, anılar ve bu alandaki yazınla ilgilenen meslektaşlarımızın ve meraklı okurların ilgisine sunuyoruz. Toplumsal hafıza ve hafızanın üretimi, siyaseti üzerine düşünürken geç Osmanlı ve Cumhuriyet dönemi anılarını uzun zamandır okuyor ve bu konu üzerinde çalışıyorduk. Bu kapsamda çeşitli alanlara yayılmış anıları inceledik: erkekler ve kadınlar tarafından kaleme alınmış, farklı toplumsal grupların deneyimlerini yansıtan anıların yanı sıra tematik olarak da İstanbul, belirli siyasal olaylar ve meslek gruplarının anılarını eleştirel bir gözle okuduk, tartıştık. Toplumsal hiyerarşinin en üstünde yer alan kişilerin, devlet adamı, asker, diplomat, siyasetçi ve edebiyatçı anılarının yanı sıra farklı toplumsal sınıflara mensup insanların anılarını okurken farklı din, dil ve etnik gruplardan kişilerin kendilerini nasıl ifade ettiğini izlemeye çalıştık. Bu küçük çalışmamızda öncelikle hatırat/anı türünü, yaşam öyküsü anlatılarını tarihsel geçmiş, erken ve modern örnekler, batı ve batı dışı ülkelerdeki ilgili yazın ışığında gözden geçirdik. Cumhuriyet Türkiye’sini, dönemler, gelişmeler ve sorunlarını, öne çıkan temaları, tartışma ve modaları, değişen mekânı geç Osmanlı döneminden başlayarak anılar yardımıyla bir kez daha okuyabileceğimizi hatırlatmak istedik. Geç Osmanlı dönemi derken 1908 ve sonrasını esas almak, Büyük Savaş ve Cumhuriyetin kuruluşunu, İstanbul, İzmir ve Ankara’da yaşayan ve anıları yayınlanmış aydınlar, sanatçı ve siyasetçiler, gazeteciler, anılarını kaleme almış sıradan insanların gözünden izlemek bize önemli ve öğretici geliyor. Bu insanların kişisel ve grupsal anlatıları, aile deneyimleri bize tarihi daha insani, daha içeriden, yaşayanların tecrübesiyle ete kemiğe büründürüyor, daha anlaşılır kılıyor. Bunu en iyi yapabileceğimiz aracın kişilerin yaşam öyküsü anlatıları ve anıları olduğunu düşünüyoruz. Anılarını yazanların aile öykülerinden başlayarak geçmişlerini nasıl ele aldıkları, dönemleri ve deneyimlerini nasıl değerlendirdikleri, yorumladıkları tarih ve siyaset açısından kıymeti çoğu kez bilinmeyen bir önem ve değer taşıyor. Elbette anıları bir tarihsel belge olarak kullanmak, gerçekliğe referans olarak bakmak çeşitli sorunlar taşıyor. Bilimsel tarih çalışmaları ile hafıza, anılar ve anlatılar arasında gidip gelen, edebi türlere yakın duran, bireysel, düşünsel farklılıklar, kırılmalar, tercihler ve yorum farklılıkları içeren bir tür, yaşam öyküsü anlatıları. Çalışmamızın amaçları arasında tarih yazımı ile bu türden kişisel anlatıların, hayat öyküleri ve anıların niteliği üzerine düşünmek ve çalışmak da yer aldı. Bu anlamda yöntem üzerine de düşündük ve bu konuya da çalışmamızda değindik. Tüm eksiklikleri, görüş ve deneyim farklılıkları ve yazılış amaçlarına bağlı olarak kırılmış merceklerden bakış açılarına karşın anıların ülkemizin yakın tarihine, Cumhuriyet tarihine ışık tutacak nitelikte ve canlılıkta olduklarını düşüncesiyle tarihi bir de yaşayanların gözünden, onlar açısından, gerçek insanların deneyimleri ışığında düşünmek ve tartışmakta yarar olduğunu iddia ediyoruz. Çalışmamızın özgün yanlarından en önemlisi bu konuda bir bibliyografya hazırlamış olmamız. Bibliyografya çalışmasının bu alanda araştırma yapan meslektaşlarımıza, öğrencilerimize, anı okurlarına, konuyla ilgili herkese yararlı olmasını umuyoruz.

Description: Göl, akarsu ve denizler yüzyılları aşan süreden beri çoğunluğu insan kaynaklı olmak üzere çeşitli kirleticilerin baskısı altında bulunmaktadırlar. Özellikle endüstriyel üretimin hız kazandığı 1900’lü yılların ortalarından itibaren bu baskılar daha da artmış birçok su kaynağı kullanılamaz hale gelmiştir. Su kalitesindeki bozulmalar ve iklimsel değişim nedeniyle çok sayıda tür ortadan kalkmış, ya da tükenme noktasına gelmiştir. Ülkemizde de benzer çevresel sorunlar 1950’li yıllardan itibaren görülmeye başlanmıştır. Başta sanayi üretiminin büyük bir kısmının gerçekleştiği Marmara Bölgesindeki deniz ve içsu kaynakları olmak üzere birçok su kaynağı sanayi atıkları, evsel atıklar ve tarımsal kirleticiler ile baş başa bırakılmıştır. Söz konusu kirleticiler nedeniyle en büyük su kalitesi kaybına uğrayan alanların başında ise Marmara Denizi gelmektedir. Marmara Denizi havzası başta ülkemizin en büyük şehri olan İstanbul olmak üzere en büyük şehirlerini barındıran bir iç deniz konumundadır. Göreceli olarak küçük bir alan olmasına rağmen havzada ülke nüfusunun yaklaşık 1/3’ü yaşamaktadır. Havzadaki aşırı nüfus artışı ve kontrolsüz yapılaşma özellikle Marmara Denizi üzerinde büyük bir baskı oluşturmuştur. Uzun yıllar süresince arıtılmadan ya da sadece ön arıtıma tabi tutularak Marmara Denizine verilen atıklar denizin taşıma kapasitesini aşmış, bu nedenle denizde yaşayan birçok canlı türü tamamen ortadan kaybolmuştur. Hatta aşırı kirlenme nedeniyle Marmara Denizi’nin “Doğu Körfez” bölümü uzun yılardan beri balıkçılığa kapatılmıştır. Son zamanlarda Marmara Denizinde ortaya çıkan en önemli ekolojik sorunlardan bir tanesi de yaklaşık 6 ay süren müsilaj artışıdır. Müsilaj Ocak 2021 de başlayıp Haziran 2021’e kadar devam etmiştir. Müsilaj artışının 6 ay gibi uzun bir süre devam etmesi, büyük bir alanda habitat kayıpları yaratması, ekolojik tahribat kadar ekonomik kayıplara neden olması, balıkçılık dahil birçok ekosistem hizmetlerini etkilemesi nedeniyle dünya literatürüne girmiştir. İstanbul Üniversitesi olarak böylesine önemli ekolojik sorunu detaylı bir şekilde araştırmak, sonuçlarını ortaya koymanın gerekliliğine inanarak sadece Marmara Denizi’nde ortaya çıkan müsilaj sorunu ile ilgili çalışmaların yer aldığı 13 bölümden oluşan kitap yayınlamaya karar verdik. Deniz araştırmaları konusunda yaklaşık 80 yıllık deneyime sahip İstanbul Üniversitesinin yayınladığı bu eserin deniz bilimcilere ve karar vericilere başucu kaynağı olmasını diliyoruz.

Description: During the 1920s and 1930s the wordless novel – stories told in black-and-white wordless woodcuts – was established as a narrative genre. The genre was most popular in Germany, but was as well known in other parts of Europé and in the US. The wordless novel was characterized by the absence of words, the use of woodcut and other relief printing techniques, as well as themes of social critique and serious existential issues. The purpose of the book is to - through the wordless novels of the 1920s and 30s - explain the uniqueness of the wordless narrative and thus the autonomous narrative possibilities of the image. The method of the examination is a close reading of the German artist Otto Nückel's wordless novel Schicksal (Destiny 1926). A comparative material consists of the Czech artist Helena Bochořáková-Dittrichova's wordless novel Z Mého Dětství (From My Childhood, 1929). Wordlessness is studied through the image's characteristics as an intermediary of messages and narratives and through comparisons with other expressions - the silent film, cirkus, expressionist dance and visual art, as well as medieval woodcuts. Narratives – which are usually put together by verbal communication – are in this project a tool for seeing: the image sequences or the image groups that ""replace"" the words - not as a lack or implied meaning of words, but as a personal visual story.

To serve, at a farm or at a manor, was ever since the thirteenth century the most common way to make a living, since poor people could by law be forced to accept work for a master. Service hence replaced thraldom in Sweden.In From slaves to servants, historian Martin Andersson explains how the regulations of the servants’ lives were gradually sharpened. Labourers had to become servants under the threats of punishment and forced conscription into the army. Wages were legally reduced, while other forms of making a living were blocked. The master’s right to use physical violence was increased, while the servant’s duty to obey was expanded.By the end of the sixteenth century, most farmhands and maids worked at manors or for the richest of the peasantry. They had consequently minimal chances of themselves becoming masters. Through studies of a rich material of regional law codes, court records, fine registers, royal letters and manuals for manor owners, the historian paints a rich picture of the daily lives of servants – a life formed by legal uncertainty, coercion, and poverty.

Description: Participatory approaches and co-research are increasingly employed in the current moment for exploring barriers to equality. Co-research treats research participants as experts in their own lives and as equal research partners. Research conducted with this orientation is based on research problems drafted by the research participants themselves from their aspirations regarding the research process and an active partnership that considers the interests of all parties involved. Participatory methods are used in co-research, particularly for the purpose of deepening the contextualisation of research knowledge about structurally vulnerable or subordinated groups and to challenge the power positions associated with traditional research designs. In co-research, the role of the people involved in the research is more central than in more traditional research. One of the key principles of co-research is that co-investigators (a) can participate in various roles, (b) have the opportunity to participate in different phases of the research according to their own interests and resources, and (c) co-investigators' participation can take many forms, including differences in intensity. The idea is to provide more people with opportunities to contribute to the knowledge production about themselves and their communities from their respective perspectives and interests. Co-research is also seen as an opportunity to improve the relevance and usefulness of scientific knowledge. It aims to genuinely increase interaction and openness and extend science's societal responsibility. In this book, we approach co-research as a means to promote social justice, as an action with a societal impact contributor to social impact and as a means to promote the societal responsibility of science. We discuss and evaluate the ideals of the co-research process concerning the everyday challenges and practices in research. Above all, we offer the knowledge and experience generated by our own projects to support those planning or already implementing co-research projects.

Description: Among the literature aimed at students of art science and other image-interpreting sciences are a number of texts that deal with theories and theoretical concepts. However, what is largely missing, and which students often call for, are texts in Swedish that show how theories and concepts can be applied in concrete interpretation situations. The series Theoretical applications in art science aims to fill that gap, with the book Materiality being the fourth in the series. The book introduces and activates a concept that in recent decades has come to take an increasingly important place in humanistic research. Art scholars - but also archaeologists, anthropologists, literary scholars, ethnologists and other humanistic researchers - are increasingly interested in the material conditions for, and the manifestations of, people's social and cultural life and exchange. But despite its topicality in today's scientific conversation, the concept of materiality can seem elusive and elusive. It moves all the way from the most tangible analyzes of the material components of a cultural artefact, to the somewhat impenetrable theorizations of objectivity, agents and networks that are usually sorted under the label ""new materialism"". Description: If the artworld is a battlefield of meanings, the fortunes of discourse did not favour avant-garde art in Finland in the 1910s. The latest trends, introduced by German and Russian artists in three pioneering exhibitions in Helsinki in 1914 and 1916, were dismissed by the Finnish press as foolish and unworthy. This book researches the contemporary reactions and contents of these exhibitions. The works shown in Helsinki included masterpieces from artists such as Chagall, Jawlensky, Kandinsky, Marc, Münter and Rozanova. Today these works can be found in the collections of leading museums in Europe, Russia and the USA. From the Finnish perspective, the turndown in the 1910s proved effective and irreversible. Never again have the local collections had similar opportunities to make a purchase. The rejection of radical international developments and emphasis on narrow nationalistic views left Finnish art lagging behind. This trend was already apparent in 1917 in St. Petersburg, where the Finnish artists were celebrated but their paintings deemed sombre and superannuated.

Description: This volume looks at the Finnish-German military alliance (1941–1944) as a translation zone – a multilingual network of military, administrative and civilian encounters that was held together by linguistically versed soldiers and civilians acting as interpreters and translators. It focuses on interpreters and liaison officers of the Finnish Liaison Staff in Rovaniemi, who were assigned to the staffs of the German army units with the task of maintaining communication between the two armies and assisting German troops in their daily matters. Furthermore, attention is paid to Finnish civilians, especially women whose language skills made them candidates for a range of mediation tasks in the German units. The reconstruction of military interpreters’ and liaison officers’ tasks and mediation agency between the two military cultures is based on their war-time weekly reports, whereas the civilian interpreters’ experiences are drawn from a variety of autobiographical accounts, including interviews.

Description: Turkic World studies seem to be a topic that attracts scientific attention day by day. The continuous increase in cooperation, rapprochement, and mobility between Turkish-speaking countries and communities since 1991 might be shown as the main dynamic behind this interest. The richness of the Turkic Republics in terms of natural resources, their location on the energy and transportation corridors, the change of the balances in the Caucasus with the Second Karabakh War in 2020, and the transition of the Turkic Council from a cooperation organization to an interstate organization in 2021 under the name of the "Organization of Turkic States" also accelerate the work of the Turkic World. In the meantime, the popularization of some geopolitical determinations and predictions in the context of scientific interest in the region can be shown as an important factor. Similar to the rise of Europe in the industrial age, we can talk about the rise of Asia in the information age. The sources of political and economic power are shifting to Asian geopolitics and this process continues to strengthen. Such analyses and predictions, which bring to the agenda that in the 2050s, Asia will regain its former central position also encourage academic interest in Central Asia. This book is the product of the goal of creating an original work for the Turkish World with gap-filling parameters and process analyses determined by a meticulous preliminary study in the light of the mentioned background. In this direction, three basic perspectives such as the effort to determine the capacities of the countries with comparative analyses, to look at the Turkish World from the perspective of problems, and to embody the Turkish World based on the community, autonomous region, and country sections dominate the work. With comparative analyses, it has been tried to embody the capacities of the countries within the parameters such as sustainable development potential, transportation systems, scientific performance, evolution in the political system, education system, and values of education. On the other hand, the crises affecting the Turkic World were discussed with the analysis of Karabakh, which is the main crisis, and the Russia-Ukraine War, which is the current crisis. On the other hand, the analysis of the thirty-year process in the Turkish World, starting from the scales of the community, autonomous region, and country, was carried out through the examples of Georgia, Tatarstan, and Uzbekistan.

In the Traces of the Cold War describes the making of a diverse and innovative Swedish military heritage. The book shows how memories and material remains from a period characterized by fear and geopolitical tensions are infused with new meanings when bunkers, decommissioned military facilities and technology are transformed into luxury housing, attractive tourist destinations and museum exhibitions. Through field-visits to military heritage sites across Sweden, the authors examine what material objects, narratives and emotions that today represent the Cold War. These examinations show how military structures and equipment from a time associated with threat and danger become captivating elements of the cultural heritage, while also communicating specific ideas regarding security and protection. In the Traces of the Cold War takes a novel approach to cultural heritage by relating collective memory-making to security policy. Based on theoretical perspectives from critical heritage studies (CHS) and feminist international relations (IR), the analysis focuses on constructions of national belonging and underlines the role of gender and sexuality in narrations of security and protection. In a democracy, the subject of military violence must always be a matter of ethical and political conversations. Setting out from this assumption, the authors critically discuss how Cold War heritagisation produces militarization as “natural” and necessary. The book invites reflection on how history is written as well as on what the requirements are for a safe and secure society. Description: Mechthild of Hackeborn represents medieval mysticism. Her Revelations were written down in the 1290s in Helfta, Germany. The oldest surviving versions are in Latin, but in the Middle Ages, the Revelations were translated at least into Dutch, English, Swedish, and German. The text was translated into Swedish in 1469 by Jöns Budde, a Bridgettine brother from Naantali. Budde made few omissions but many additions in the text, mainly explanations to meet the needs of the Bridgettine sisters. Budde’s translation is faithful to the original text, and he made few mistakes. My Finnish translation of the text follows Budde’s version where possible. However, Budde translated an abridged version that omitted some chapters, and the only surviving copy of Budde’s translation is incomplete. I have therefore translated the missing sections from Latin and incorporated them in the text. My translation also includes editorial comments on the language, the contents, and the historical and theological contexts of the Revelations.

Özellikle endüstriyel üretimin hız kazandığı 1900’lü yılların ortalarından itibaren bu baskılar daha da artmış birçok su kaynağı kullanılamaz hale gelmiştir. Su kalitesindeki bozulmalar ve iklimsel değişim nedeniyle çok sayıda tür ortadan kalkmış, ya da tükenme noktasına gelmiştir. Ülkemizde de benzer çevresel sorunlar 1950’li yıllardan itibaren görülmeye başlanmıştır. Başta sanayi üretiminin büyük bir kısmının gerçekleştiği Marmara Bölgesindeki deniz ve içsu kaynakları olmak üzere birçok su kaynağı sanayi atıkları, evsel atıklar ve tarımsal kirleticiler ile baş başa bırakılmıştır. Söz konusu kirleticiler nedeniyle en büyük su kalitesi kaybına uğrayan alanların başında ise Marmara Denizi gelmektedir. Marmara Denizi havzası başta ülkemizin en büyük şehri olan İstanbul olmak üzere en büyük şehirlerini barındıran bir iç deniz konumundadır. Göreceli olarak küçük bir alan olmasına rağmen havzada ülke nüfusunun yaklaşık 1/3’ü yaşamaktadır. Havzadaki aşırı nüfus artışı ve kontrolsüz yapılaşma özellikle Marmara Denizi üzerinde büyük bir baskı oluşturmuştur. Uzun yıllar süresince arıtılmadan ya da sadece ön arıtıma tabi tutularak Marmara Denizine verilen atıklar denizin taşıma kapasitesini aşmış, bu nedenle denizde yaşayan birçok canlı türü tamamen ortadan kaybolmuştur. Hatta aşırı kirlenme nedeniyle Marmara Denizi’nin “Doğu Körfez” bölümü uzun yılardan beri balıkçılığa kapatılmıştır. Son zamanlarda Marmara Denizinde ortaya çıkan en önemli ekolojik sorunlardan bir tanesi de yaklaşık 6 ay süren müsilaj artışıdır. Müsilaj Ocak 2021 de başlayıp Haziran 2021’e kadar devam etmiştir. Müsilaj artışının 6 ay gibi uzun bir süre devam etmesi, büyük bir alanda habitat kayıpları yaratması, ekolojik tahribat kadar ekonomik kayıplara neden olması, balıkçılık dahil birçok ekosistem hizmetlerini etkilemesi nedeniyle dünya literatürüne girmiştir. İstanbul Üniversitesi olarak böylesine önemli ekolojik sorunu detaylı bir şekilde araştırmak, sonuçlarını ortaya koymanın gerekliliğine inanarak sadece Marmara Denizi’nde ortaya çıkan müsilaj sorunu ile ilgili çalışmaların yer aldığı 13 bölümden oluşan kitap yayınlamaya karar verdik. Deniz araştırmaları konusunda yaklaşık 80 yıllık deneyime sahip İstanbul Üniversitesinin yayınladığı bu eserin deniz bilimcilere ve karar vericilere başucu kaynağı olmasını diliyoruz.

Moreover, this epidemic has affected not only one country but also all countries of the world at the same time and with a similar intensity. Almost the health systems of the countries were tested with a test consisting of the same questions. During the pandemic, many unknown equations were intertwined. We had so many unknowns at the beginning of the epidemic. We did not yet clearly know how we approached patients, how to treat them, and what drugs should be given. Over the past two years, much research and many experiences have taught us how to behave against the disease. During the pandemic, we learned by experience how damaging information pollution can be. The epidemic also showed us the vaccine wars. We have seen how valuable the vaccines we use to get rid of the epidemic are, how developed countries have entered vaccine wars, and the change in the dynamics of the epidemic with vaccination. The years 2020-2022 will be defined as the epidemic years. During this epidemic, we saw that it was precious for physicians to get the correct information. This source has been tried to be created thanks to the fact that it has written down the experiences gained by experiencing this epidemic in person. Adeta ülkelerin sağlık sistemleri aynı sorulardan oluşan bir sınavla sınandı. Salgın sırasında birçok bilinmeyen denklem iç içe idi. Salgın başında o kadar çok bilinmeyenimiz vardı ki. Hastalara nasıl yaklaştığımızı, nasıl tedavi vereceğimizi ve hangi ilaçların verilmesi gerektiğini henüz net bir şekilde bilmiyorduk. Geçen iki yıl zarfında birçok araştırma ve birçok deneyim bizim hastalığa karşı nasıl davranmamız gerektiğini öğretti. Salgın sırasında bilgi kirliliğinin ne kadar zarar verebilir olduğunu yaşayarak öğrendik. Salgın bize birde aşı savaşlarını gösterdi. Salgından kurtulmak için kullandığımız aşıların ne kadar değerli olduğunu, gelişmiş ülkelerin nasıl aşı savaşlarına girdiğini aşılama ile beraber salgın dinamiklerindeki değişimi gördük. 2020-2022 yılları salgın yılları olarak tanımlanacaktır. Bu salgın sırasında hekimlerin doğru bilgilerin ulaşmasının çok değerli olduğunu gördük. Description: Politeness is a key means by which we maintain interpersonal relationships. This book is the first comprehensive study of politeness in Finnish. Based on linguistic and pragmatic research, the book spans three parts. The first part is theoretical and historical, summarising three waves of politeness research, describing politeness as a cultural and historical phenomenon. The second part is empirical, providing an example of the study of im/politeness from outsiders’ perspectives—that, is French people living in Finland and Finns living or having lived in France. The focus group discussions ranged from definitions of politeness and differences of behaviour, to learning and teaching as well as to changes to politeness norms within society. The third part summarises the conclusions and offers an epilogue. This reader-friendly book includes exercises and recommended readings, and is welcomed by researchers and students working on politeness and, more broadly, relational work.

Who sold goods, who shopped them and what goods were available? How were goods displayed in shops and marketed? How households act in organising their purchases and consumption? From a microhistorical case studies, this richly illustrated anthology widens the perspective to social, economic and cultural practices in everyday urban life. The chapters demonstrate how shopping streets and shops with their range of silk fabrics, accessories, fashion plates, blacksmithing, wigs and hair pomades not only met the desires of consumers, but also enabled dreams of novel identities and social accession for themselves and their families.

Description: It is well known that Sweden once had a state institute for racial biology, as well as that extensive racial research was conducted in Sweden during the first decades of the 20th century. But what actually happened to Swedish race research after the 1930s - did it just disappear? In The science that disappeared? historian Martin Ericsson conducts the first systematic survey of Swedish race research from the mid-1930s to the early 1970s. It is a story of a racial science that survived the horrors of World War II and endured longer than we might like to believe as criticism grew in the post-war period. And about the Norwegian Institute for Racial Biology, which was never shut down, but lived on in a different form and under a different name. Ericsson shows that there was not a single Swedish racial research tradition, but two. One was based on the first director of the Institute of Racial Biology, Herman Lundborg, and had clear connections to Nazism and other extreme right-wing movements. The second can be said to be based on Lundborg's successor Gunnar Dahlberg and was instead anti-Nazi and in some cases even anti-racist. But both traditions agreed that there were different human races and that it made sense to try to measure differences between them. By following the Swedish race research until the end of the 20th century, the book also raises important questions about our own time and its interest in ""origin"" and ""descent"". How fundamentally different are today's dna analyzes from the old racial research traditions? What if we risk asking the same questions as 1930s racial biology stuck with new techniques?

Description: The book presents the biographies and work lists of 126 Finnish women composers born between 1784 and 1909. Based on large-scale archival research, it is the first comprehensive historical account of Finnish women composers and their cultural heritage. The authors draw on feminist music history and the sociohistorical approach to find out who these women were, what kind of music they wrote, and how their careers reflected European cultural and social history. The treatise highlights the influence of girls’ schools, women’s suffrage movements and other socio-political developments on the musical culture of women. Concepts such as “composer”, “woman” and “Finnish” were assumed to be open and inclusive throughout the research, in terms of both musical style and diversity in cultural background. In concentrating on music-making by women, the book opens up radically new vistas on Finland’s music and cultural history, and it rectifies previous erroneous conceptions about women’s composership and their artistic work. In short, it exposes the richness in the sonic and intellectual heritage of Finnish women composers, as well as its significance in society today.

Description: It is generally recognized that in early modern society, the position of the church and clergy was very central. As many historians have stated over the decades, the church and state were closely connected and their power structures and ideologies supported each other. However, when studying the social and public role of the church and clergy, it soon becomes quite clear how pervasive this phenomenon was. The church not only created but also maintained and acted as a part of international, national, and local communities, structures, and cultures that connected people regardless of their social status and gender. The church was a spiritual, administrative, and social institution and experience environment, whose tasks, scope, and meanings changed and intertwined with the development, needs, and requirements of society. In this book, we investigate from different perspectives the motives and different means by which the church and clergy came to play a significant part in early modern society. In this volume, the church is considered both as an administrative institution and as a social space and cultural structure. Hence, we do not focus on the history of theology or doctrinal questions. Instead, we consider the social and public roles and meanings of the church. The church as such is understood in this book as transnational, a strong national and local institution, and also a space and structure. The church had its own institutionalized place in society and its activities and rights were defined by law (Church law 1696, the Law of the Swedish kingdom 1734) and by the decrees given by the Royal Majesty. The church had its own archbishop-led administrative organization under the Royal Majesty and it worked in close cooperation with the Crown administration and county governors. In this volume, we understand the clergy as church servants, a trained and appointed professional group, a separate estate (social class), and also as a wide social network constructed by their families. The approach of this book is social science history. In other words, the book examines the church and the clergy as an integral part of society and the individual communities who lived in the current Finnish territory during the early modern era. The topic is examined on the basis of three conceptual themes reflecting important new areas of research in the study of the social significance of the church and clergy: (1) the clergy and family as part of the community, (2) the church as a jointly built space, and (3) the church as an arena for interaction, knowledge, and politics. We approach this multidimensionality using different research questions, sources, methods, and theoretical approaches. The volume focuses on the 17th to 19th centuries, but many of the church and clergy-related phenomena are much older, and some of them extend to the present, so the articles also move beyond this time frame.

Description: Narratives about northern Sweden are often narratives about nature. This has been true throughout history and is still true today. Different ways of understanding nature have become intertwined with the place and the people who live there. The nature in northern Sweden can be magnificent and impressive, but it can also be desolate, threatening and dangerous. A dominant image of nature in northern Sweden - then as now - is the image of resources, assets. The overall aim of the study is to shed light on the role of nature in linguistic place-making in northern Sweden with a particular focus on the settler colonization during the 18th and 19th centuries. Through a selection of text sources, nature’s central place in the story of the colonization, of the place, its history, change and future is highlighted. The texts that are analyzed are the two journals in which Petrus Læstadius described his work as a missionary in Lapland, as well as Olov Petter Pettersson's detailed description of the settler colonization in the work Gamla byar i Vilhelmina. The settler colonization took place in areas with Sami presence and history and this study connects to the research field of Settler Colonial Studies in a critical discussion of the linguistic place-making in the texts. One of the aims of the study is to also shed light on the connections that exist between the settler colonization depicted in the texts, and the linguistic place-making with nature at the center that is ongoing in northern Sweden today.

Description: The Centre Party of Finland was represented in almost all cabinets for decades, and it often held the post of prime minister during the reign of President Urho Kekkonen. When Kekkonen’s deteriorating health forced him to resign in 1981, the Centre Party, formerly the Agrarian Union, was in front of the crisis. The party was deeply divided along the lines of who would be the best candidate to succeed Kekkonen. The schism had prevailed for years, and contemporaries suspected the party would split up or at least lose its dominant position in Finnish politics. Besides, the numbers of core supporters making up the party, agrarians, were constantly diminishing. In addition, the Finnish party system was in a state of flux. The Finnish People’s Democratic League was in a deep downward spiral, while the Conservative Party’s support was ascendant. The power struggle between the three ‘big’ parties, the Centre Party, the Social Democratic Party and the Conservative Party, was fierce. The study describes and analyses how the Center Party survived the challenges it faced. How was the cohesion of the party rebuilt and maintained? How did the Centre Party manage to survive the inter-party contests and end up being the strongest party in the elections of 1991? The study is firmly based on source material from the party organization of the Centre Party and other relevant political actors, such as President Mauno Koivisto. The book provides new information on both Finnish domestic and foreign politics and the power struggles among the parties and leading political figures.

Intelligent systems equipped with digital technology opportunities have started the “Health 4.0” era in health care fields. The definitions of “Health 4.0” and “Smart Health” are used in parallel with the “Industry 4.0” period, in order to emphasize the cyber-physical determinants of health, symbolizing real-time information provision and access to holistic health care. One of the most important reasons why the concept of smart health has become popular is the concept of big data produced in medicine as well as in all areas of life. The enormous size and variety of data, whether real-time or timestamped, structured or unstructured, continues to grow in healthcare. Clinical artificial intelligence applications, which include more efficient and faster technological solutions in the production of health services, and which aim to increase the health level of individuals and improve their quality of life, are becoming widespread with approaches to improve health services by analyzing health data. In addition to the use of artificial intelligence in the administration of health services, performance and capacity increase, original models are also created in the management of health services. The use of informatics approaches in diagnosis, treatment and care processes, the developments in digital imaging technologies, the use of robotic systems in surgery, the widespread use of modeling and simulation technologies in medical education make a difference in the functioning of health institutions. Despite the disadvantage of high initial investment costs, artificial intelligence technologies in the field of health contribute greatly to measurement, diagnosis, treatment management and follow-up activities with their facilitating and adaptive effects. Although conceptual and technical studies on the future of artificial intelligence applications continue, it is not possible for artificial intelligence systems to display the ability for emotional intelligence, which requires design, adaptation and intuition, and to perform multitasking similar to the human brain. As in the field of informatics, there are still concerns about ethical reasoning responsibility and ethical decision making in artificial intelligence applications in medicine. In the third book of the series published by Istanbul University Press in medical informatics, the applications of medical informatics and artificial intelligence in medicine are discussed with a multidisciplinary approach and broad perspective. In particular, telemedicine and out-of-hospital patient management issues, which allow health service delivery to be provided without time and space limits, are handled with public regulations specific to the coronavirus pandemic period.

Description: Göl, akarsu ve denizler yüzyılları aşan süreden beri çoğunluğu insan kaynaklı olmak üzere çeşitli kirleticilerin baskısı altında bulunmaktadırlar. Özellikle endüstriyel üretimin hız kazandığı 1900’lü yılların ortalarından itibaren bu baskılar daha da artmış birçok su kaynağı kullanılamaz hale gelmiştir. Su kalitesindeki bozulmalar ve iklimsel değişim nedeniyle çok sayıda tür ortadan kalkmış, ya da tükenme noktasına gelmiştir. Ülkemizde de benzer çevresel sorunlar 1950’li yıllardan itibaren görülmeye başlanmıştır. Başta sanayi üretiminin büyük bir kısmının gerçekleştiği Marmara Bölgesindeki deniz ve içsu kaynakları olmak üzere birçok su kaynağı sanayi atıkları, evsel atıklar ve tarımsal kirleticiler ile baş başa bırakılmıştır. Söz konusu kirleticiler nedeniyle en büyük su kalitesi kaybına uğrayan alanların başında ise Marmara Denizi gelmektedir. Marmara Denizi havzası başta ülkemizin en büyük şehri olan İstanbul olmak üzere en büyük şehirlerini barındıran bir iç deniz konumundadır. Göreceli olarak küçük bir alan olmasına rağmen havzada ülke nüfusunun yaklaşık 1/3’ü yaşamaktadır. Havzadaki aşırı nüfus artışı ve kontrolsüz yapılaşma özellikle Marmara Denizi üzerinde büyük bir baskı oluşturmuştur. Uzun yıllar süresince arıtılmadan ya da sadece ön arıtıma tabi tutularak Marmara Denizine verilen atıklar denizin taşıma kapasitesini aşmış, bu nedenle denizde yaşayan birçok canlı türü tamamen ortadan kaybolmuştur. Hatta aşırı kirlenme nedeniyle Marmara Denizi’nin “Doğu Körfez” bölümü uzun yılardan beri balıkçılığa kapatılmıştır. Son zamanlarda Marmara Denizinde ortaya çıkan en önemli ekolojik sorunlardan bir tanesi de yaklaşık 6 ay süren müsilaj artışıdır. Müsilaj Ocak 2021 de başlayıp Haziran 2021’e kadar devam etmiştir. Müsilaj artışının 6 ay gibi uzun bir süre devam etmesi, büyük bir alanda habitat kayıpları yaratması, ekolojik tahribat kadar ekonomik kayıplara neden olması, balıkçılık dahil birçok ekosistem hizmetlerini etkilemesi nedeniyle dünya literatürüne girmiştir. İstanbul Üniversitesi olarak böylesine önemli ekolojik sorunu detaylı bir şekilde araştırmak, sonuçlarını ortaya koymanın gerekliliğine inanarak sadece Marmara Denizi’nde ortaya çıkan müsilaj sorunu ile ilgili çalışmaların yer aldığı 13 bölümden oluşan kitap yayınlamaya karar verdik. Deniz araştırmaları konusunda yaklaşık 80 yıllık deneyime sahip İstanbul Üniversitesinin yayınladığı bu eserin deniz bilimcilere ve karar vericilere başucu kaynağı olmasını diliyoruz.

Description: In recent decades, the focus of Folklore Studies has shifted from analysing the products of oral traditions as texts to examining the ways in which people use and produce these items, and the areas of study have broadened to include vernacular cultures and genres in diverse verbal and material forms. As evident from the introduction and twelve chapters of this collection, these interests are today shared by several disciplines that cooperate in the area of cultural studies. This book provides insights into current questions about the “nature” of words: it discusses both the inherent essence of vernacular expression and how that essence is tied to various genre-ecological, performative, and material environments. The chapters include studies on the poetics, form, function, performance, and composition of traditional and new vernacular forms, including explorations of hybridity, materiality, and change, as well as critical examinations of archival practices and publication processes.

Description: Accessibility to art and cultural activities is a topic with increasing attention. Most municipalities in the Scandinavian countries have kulturskoler (extra curricular schools of music and performing arts) that offer training and experiences in – and through – art and culture subjects for children and young people. But the users of these institutions are not representative for the society around them. The majority of the children and young people who actually use the kulturskole come from middle-class homes and have well-educated parents. There is therefore an increasing and absolutely necessary attention in the municipalities on how kulturskoler can reach new target groups, ensure more fair representation and develop as institutions being inclusive forces in the local community. The development project ""Kulturskolen as an inclusive force in the local community (KIL)"" had this focus. In this anthology, there are nine independent peer-reviewed research articles with topics that are relevant for those municipalities wanting to develop their potential as inclusive forces further. The book is suitable for both researchers, students or teachers associated with the didactic field of art, but also kulturskole leaders, elementary school teachers and others who are interested in how the kulturskole can function as an inclusive force in the local community

De fleste kommuner i de skandinaviske landene har musikk- og kulturskoler som tilbyr opplæring og opplevelser i og gjennom kunst- og kulturfag for barn og unge. Men kulturskoleelevene avspeiler ikke samfunnet rundt, for størstedelen av de barn og unge som faktisk bruker kulturskolene kommer fra middelklassehjem og har godt utdannede foreldre. Det er derfor et økende og helt nødvendig søkelys på hvordan kulturskolene kan nå nye målgrupper og sikre en bedre representasjon. Utviklingsprosjektet Kulturskolen som inkluderende kraft i lokalsamfunnet (KIL) hadde dette søkelyset. I denne antologien finnes ni selvstendige fagfellevurderte forskningsartikler med tematikk som er relevant for å kunne utvikle dette potensialet videre. Genom att se på genus som ett totalt socialt fenomen omfattande det medeltida samhällets alla sfärer öppnas möjligheter att undersöka hur makten verkade på olika nivåer inom samhällsstrukturen. In this book, however, the varying expressions of power are studied by changing the focus from a political and economic exercise of power controlled by men, to an approach based on interaction and communication between the sexes. In this volume, gender is instead interpreted as a total social phenomenon comprising all spheres of medieval society. This approach provides new opportunities to investigate how power operated on different levels within a societal structure. Thus, power is neither seen as emanating from a centre nor as dominated by only one sex. Instead, it is regarded as an all-embracing societal web, woven through threads of mutual dependence between men and women. In this book, scholars belonging to various disciplines, such as history, history of arts and literary history, discuss how cooperation between the sexes found expression in culture, judicial spheres and social organisation. The contributions do not only consider the Nordic countries, but also how gender constructions were affected by, and transformed through, the influence of contemporary cultural, juridical and ideological currents in Europe.

Description: Today's mathematics education has an impact even outside the confines of the classroom, not least through the relevance of mathematics in culture, economics, politics and in relation to power. Sociopolitical perspectives in mathematics didactic research provide insights into how education in mathematics is social and political. Research based on these perspectives suggests both critical questioning and not-yet-imagined possibilities for content, teaching, policy and further research. This book introduces, for a larger Swedish audience, the research orientations and strategies that sociopolitical perspectives have to offer. In the book, this is illustrated in several ways. The chapters describe current research on the socio-political challenges of mathematics education in several different contexts, e.g. classrooms, after-school programs, curricula, mathematics teacher education and even mathematics education research. In this way, perspectives are broadened to groups of people, institutions and forces, which constitute a network of mathematics education practice. The chapters present different philosophical and empirical studies, based on theoretical tools from philosophy, social science and cultural studies, critical studies of education and socio-cultural-political studies of mathematics education. Methodological and analytical strategies such as text and discourse analysis and case studies of practice are used. In this way, opportunities to research mathematics education based on socio-political perspectives are illustrated. The chapters use various writing styles which invite the reader into the world of research. Thus, the reader will encounter different ways of thinking about the role of mathematics education in the creation of modern Swedish society.

Description: Tradition and literature are not held back by borders. Transnationality is, for example, geographic, symbolic, or linguistic movement and action. Different kinds of cultural transitions and migrant traditions are connected with transnationality. Studying the multilingualism of literary texts or diverse cultural identities, transnationality is a prolific angle. In the 102nd Yearbook of the Kalevala Society Foundation, the topics cover for example migration and return migration, material things crossing borders, and places of music culture. At a more theoretical level we are asking how studying transnationality enriches the disciplines with roots in the national sciences.

Description: Alex Matson (1888–1972) is an important Finnish literary critic and essayist, whose literary reviews and collections of essays have made a vital contribution to the development of Finland's postwar literary generation. Born in Finland as the son of a sailor, Matson moved as a young child with his family to Hull in England, where he went to school. In the 1910s, he moved back to Finland, where he at first established himself as painter associated with the expressionist November Group, an important Finnish artistic movement at the time. In the interbellum, he moved from fine arts to literature. In the 1920s and 1930s, he published several novels, but more important was his work as transmitter of international literary ideas to Finland. Together with his first wife, Kersti Bergroth, he edited the literary journal Sininen kirja (""The Blue Book""; 1927–1930), which was inspired by the writings of John Middleton Murry and Katherine Mansfield. Sininen kirja is the most international literary journal in Finnish history to date and introduced Finland to the most significant modernist writers of the first half of the 20th century (Gottfried Benn, Jean Cocteau, Alfred Döblin, T. S. Eliot, Aldous Huxley, James Joyce, D. H. Lawrence, Katherine Mansfield, Paul Valéry, Virginia Woolf). During the Second World War, Matson worked for the State Communications Agency, which was responsible for disseminating relevant information about Finland to other nations and for informing Finns of relevant developments abroad. It was also tasked with studying the prevailing mood among the population in Finland. In Matson's unpublished wartime diaries, one can see the first symptoms of a shift in Finnish culture away from Germany and towards Anglo-Saxon culture. From the 1940s onwards, Matson recommended new English and American novels as a part of his work as reader for Finnish publishing houses, and he also translated works by Joyce, Hemingway and Steinbeck. With the help of a network of international literary critics, Matson became acquainted with New Criticism, which he introduced to Finland before it became established among academic researchers. He was often critical of academic literary studies, but his seminal essay works Romaanitaide (""On the Prose Novel""; 1947), John Steinbeck (1948), Kaksi mestaria (""Two Masters"", on Tolstoy and Dostoevsky; 1950) as well as his impressive conversational skills were instrumental in introducing knowledge about the principles of the prose novel to several authors (including Väinö Linna, Lauri Viita, and Hannu Salama), and contributed to their views of literature. Matson emphasized the importance of reading and understanding high-quality literature for the wellbeing of society.

Description: Finland was an autonomous Grand Duchy in the Russian Empire during the years 1808–1917. At this time nationalism as well as other ideologies reached Finland from Europe, which strengthened the willingness to change both in society and on a governmental level. The Fennoman movement, which was a movement focusing both on language and on nationalism, became the core of the Finnish self-perception. The goal was to define Finland as a coherent and separate country in relation to its neighbouring countries. Collecting folk poems and learning to know one’s home country became essential. People saw the Kalevala poems as a way to understand and define the Finnish identity and the history of the Finnish people. Especially young people with a background in academia were intrigued by these ideas. University students collected poems all over the Grand Duchy of Finland as well as in the Russian part of Carelia, in Sweden, Norway and in Ingria. Students who collected these folk poems also wrote travelogues about their travels and all this material was handed over to The Finnish Literature Society. These documents are unique and there has not been much research done on them, especially with the focus on how the young academic generation during the age of autonomy defined their home country, their national self-perception, themselves and the commoners living in the rural parts of the country. This book reviews travelogues written by one hundred university students who travelled in the country collecting folk poems during 1836–1917. The book offers insight into how the students described Finland and what it meant to be Finnish. Travelogues can be defined as a sort of hybrid of texts. They consist of a mixture of letters, journals, biographical texts and travel books. Consequently, the image that the students depict of Finland is in this study based upon research perspectives and methods used in textual research, oral history and travel literature. The travelogues written by students previously evoked the interest of researchers who mainly studied certain traits of poem collectors, tradition bearers or poems. However, the travelogues contain plenty of information about the lives of the people who lived in the areas where the poems were collected. The descriptions of Finland in the travelogues do not represent the “real” 19th century Finland, but instead it is a story written and created by university students. The characteristics that are presented in The Land of Hope are based on how the intelligentsia perceived “real” Finnishness as opposed to the uneducated commoners living in the rural parts of the country. The most notable themes in the travelogues are the state and the future of the society and of being Finnish. Another theme is the otherization of those who were uneducated commoners. These themes describe the fears and hopes that university students had about Finland. They also show us that the travelogues were ideological texts about Finland and Finnishness that united the collectors of folk poetry. This book studies the collection of folk poetry in the context of the ideologies during the age of autonomy and it explains what the collection of poems meant and who were involved in it. Furthermore, the book gives an insight into the possibilities to pursue academic studies and it also presents the most essential sources of students’ knowledge about Finland at that point of time.

Description: The nine articles in this edited volume [Education and Social Class] scrutinise the class question within the Finnish education system, as a hidden, lived and experienced phenomenon, entwined with power. The book is structured around three topical perspectives. The first part deals with the question of social mobility. Empirical research topics include examples of achieving prestigious fields of education and the inheritance of the most prestigious professions, connections of class position to education through the educational experiences of working-class-based business students, and the ways in which academic world encounters with working-class culture in the university work of working-class and academically educated women. The second part of the book examines education as a form of capital defining the life course and social class. Topics covered include the connections of life stage of adolescence and class position, Bourdieusian analysis of educational choices and class positions, and opportunities for on-the-job learning and self-development in accordance with the class position of wage earners. The third part focuses on the education system and its structures. The dynamics of education and reproduction are analysed by using as empirical research objects the cross-generational reproduction of social relations in the curricula of basic education, the meaning of the language used in school as cultural capital, and the links between class position and perspectives that promote the raising of the age of compulsory education.

Description: In order to preserve the memory of the late Prof. Dr. Fuat Sezgin (d. 2018) and to ensure that his significant scientific legacy serves as a source of inspiration for future generations, the 1st International Prof. Dr. Fuat Sezgin Symposioum on the History of Science in Islam, in collaboration with Istanbul University, Fatih Sultan Mehmet Foundation University, and the Prof. Dr. Fuat Sezgin Research Foundation for the History of Science in Islam held its inaugural conference between June 13-15, 2019. Subsequently, IU Press published 38 of the papers that had been presented at the conference. Following this, the decision was made to organize the symposium every two years, and preparations were undertaken for the 2nd International Prof. Dr. Fuat Sezgin Symposium on the History of Science in Islam, which was held on October 7-9, 2021 with the theme of “Methodological Approaches to the History of Science in Islam.” The study of the intellectual output from the Islamic world as an object of research has a nearly 200-year history. Despite the efforts of many international scholars to discover, understand, and interpret the history of Islamic sciences and determine its relevance for contemporary society, many aspects of the history of Islamic sciences still exist that remain to be clarified, such as the individuals, works, theories, networks of relations, contexts, and influences. Two key questions facing researchers in this field is how to approach the history of Islamic sciences using methodological tools and how to utilize perspectives from different disciplines. The 2nd International Prof. Dr. Fuat Sezgin Symposium on the History of Science in Islam aimed to address these issues by discussing the methodological aspects of how to research the history of Islamic sciences with a focus on the following questions: • How does the study of the history of Islamic sciences relate to the established historiography and research methods? • How can the history of Islamic sciences be periodized? Is creating a periodization that encompasses all sciences possible, or should separate periodizations be established for each individual science? • Can special methods be mentioned for studying the period following the 13th century that is commonly referred to as the post-classical period? • Has the paradigm of decline in understanding the history of Islamic sciences truly expired? • What opportunities and weaknesses do content-oriented and context-oriented approaches have in regard to analyzing scientific texts? • How should the relationship Islamic sciences have with the scientific accumulation of other civilization basins be handled? • What kind of balance should be established between continuity and originality when writing the history of scientific theories? • To what extent is the perspective presented by global history studies functional in understanding the history of Islamic sciences? • What kinds of methods and approaches should be used in teaching the history of general science at different levels, including the history of Islamic sciences? A total of 68 scholars, 41 from Turkey and 27 from other countries such as Germany, the United States of America, Belgium, France, the Netherlands, Iran, Spain, Switzerland, Egypt, Uzbekistan, Syria, Tunisia, and Greece participated in 16 parallel sessions. The symposium was conducted in a hybrid format to take into account the ongoing pandemic, with 51 of the presenters having attended the symposium in person and 17 having presented their papers online. The history of childhood is a vibrant, multidisciplinary field that incorporates a rich variety of methodological approaches developed in disciplines across the social sciences and humanities, including archaeology, education, ethnology, literature, and history. The volume presents a collection of chapters that engage a range of different research traditions and employ different research material, conceptual tools, and methods of analysis for the historical study of childhood. In doing so, the volume attends to issues specific to the study of children and childhood, such as those related to research ethics and the theoretical complexities of defining ‘the child’ and ‘childhood’. While the central focus is on the history of childhood in Finland, the volume also includes international and transnational cases, contexts, and perspectives.

Description: The nineteenth century has been called an age of monuments. In some places even one piece made a difference. This book is a study of the intellectual background and physical making of Finland’s first public sculpture, the statue of Professor Henrik Gabriel Porthan by Carl Eneas Sjöstrand. The idealised but sombre Porthan was born under the influence of German neoclassicism. Development on the project was slow but sure. The Swedish artist had to be supported over three years while he was putting together his first monumental piece in Munich and Rome, after which came another three years wait before the cast arrived to Finland. The bronze sculpture, commissioned by the Finnish Literary Society and raised by public subscriptions from people of all classes, was unveiled in the city of Turku in September 1864. Finns took some pride in the fact that, unlike other nations that had raised monuments to kings and generals, here the first place was given to a scholar. In this study Sjöstrand’s pioneering bronze is placed in a wider context and compared with works by his precursors and contemporaries in the international sculptor colony of Rome.

Description: Music plays an important role in many religions and in a variety of religious contexts. Music and Religion: Texts on Music in Religion and Religion in Music takes a look at the intersections between music and religion. We experience religion in music, and in religion we encounter musical expression. Although music and religion are unquestionably mutually pervasive, we can also come across gaps between them: Is it possible to move beyond a musical experience toward a religious one without having to hop over this gap? And is there any direct route from religion into music as an acoustic phenomenon? Without a religious interpretation of the music remaining? There is a wealth of research about music and religion, but little on how they meet. That is what this anthology seeks to remedy. Music and Religion will be relevant for anyone with an interest in encounters between these two phenomena. It will be especially relevant for students in performing, composing and scientific music education, as well as theology and religious studies. The book discusses the novels of Katja Kettu, Sofi Oksanen, Elina Hirvonen and Emmi Itäranta, where historical and collective traumas meet stories of personal vulnerability. Traumatic Memory in Contemporary Prose Fiction addresses war traumas and marks left by terrorism, colonialism, domestic violence and sexual violence, and analyses the aspects of ecological trauma and future threats. The study combines the latest discussions on cultural memory studies and trauma theory with critical perspectives offered by feminist criticism and research in transnationalism. It illustrates how cultural narratives, literary conventions and aesthetic strategies regulate and produce traumatic experiences. Traumatic memory is not only a phenomenon dealing with the past, but it involves a wide range of individual, cultural, ecological, political and economic dimensions.

Description: Homosexuality, bisexuality, transgender and queer have long been a sensitive topic in Christian churches. As society has changed, some denominations have become increasingly affirming, while others see the changes as incompatible with Christian values. A Conditional Community is based on in-depth interviews with 29 lgbtq Christians and is the first Swedish scientific study on the subject. Using a phenomenological approach, the author investigate how sexuality, intimacy and faith are experienced by the interviewees and how their Christian identity interacts with their identity as lgbtq people. Description: In the current digital media environment, legacy newspapers and their readers are often regarded as obsolete. For media executives and many journalists, the future of news is exclusively digital. Given the economic uncertainties facing the industry, news producers’ eyes are focused on audience metrics and their capacity to shed light on readers' preferences. This book sets out to analyse news reading from the perspective of the audience. Employing interviews as well as the so called obsläs method, it examines how readers of two Finnish regional newspapers, Hämeen Sanomat and Karjalainen, navigate in three distinct architectures of the newspaper: printed, digital replica and online news application. The assumption underlying the analysis is that each of these user interfaces favour somewhat differing reading protocols and routines. The empirical analysis responds to the big question pondered by editors and publishers: Where are the readers? It appears that most of the participants of the study tended to move from one architecture to another depending on their contextual and situational needs. In this comparison, the strengths of a printed newspaper seemed evident for many, while the balance between the pros and cons of the digital environment was more mixed. In addition to reporting the findings of the empirical audience study, this book evaluates the future of newspapers in the context of economic statistics and media policies. While the newspaper business in Finland struggles with increasing costs and volatility of income, it may well rely on the robust newspaper reading culture among the Finnish reading public.

Description: The Finnish novelist Kaarlo (Kalle) Alvar Päätalo’s (1919–2000) main work, the Iijoki series, consists of 26 novels (comprising ca. 17 000 pages) and was written in 1971–1998. In this book the text corpus in Kielipankki concerning Päätalo’s works is introduced to the readers, as well as the possibilities of digital text mining. This book includes scientific articles concerning the works of Kalle Päätalo. It also gives ideas for the research that can be carried out in the future. The authors of this book are researchers in the fields of history, linguistics and literature, respectively. The research results presented in this book speak for the fact that the Iijoki series is a significant source material for future research, for example from the point of view of oral history, language variation, metalanguage, swearing and the reader’s reception. The possibilities for future research seem to be quite plentiful.

Description: In this book [titled Home, welfare work and vulnerability] the authors take the reader on welfare workers’ home visits to clients in need of support in their living. Welfare workers refer to professionals in health and social care who in the book are represented among others by social workers, social care workers and nurses. The main concepts of the book are home, welfare work and vulnerability and these are contemplated from different angles. Welfare work entails encountering people who are in vulnerable situations in the midst of their everyday lives. They may need support in coping with their mental health, with physical illnesses, with the challenges of achieving sobriety and recovery or perhaps with the difficulties accompanying old age. On the one hand their ability to act is limited and weak but on the other they have many kinds of strengths and resources. The book addresses a significant turning point in welfare services and work at which the objective is defined as the right of every individual to their own home and making living at home feasible for as long as possible. In the last fifty years or so many societal factors have made possible the dismantling of institutions, the reduction of places and the shortening of stays in institutions, the further development of care in the community, the construction of small residential and care facilities and most recently the further development of services to be taken into people’s homes. The last stage of this dismantling of institutions is referred to in the book as the “home turn”. As a societal change the home turn is complex – and that is how it is approached in the book. When one’s own home is the main place in which welfare policy and work are implemented, it is important to scrutinize more closely what actually occurs there and what special issues are connected to this given context. The book offers a timely point of view on the development of welfare services and the grass-root level welfare work done in the homes. It draws on interaction research based on ethnomethodology and human geography. Research data consist of recordings of home visits, researcher’s field diaries and interviews with clients and workers. The work includes both chapters providing conceptual and theoretical overviews and empirical research on the encounters between client and worker(s) on home visits. Welfare work accomplished in people’s homes entails many tensions and ethical issues which are analysed in the book and made visible through the means of research.

The articles in this book examine this little researched phenomenon through a wide range of empirical data. Based on Statistics Finland's register data, different ways of combining jobs are classified. Interview material sheds light on the conditions for holding multible jobs. A new perspective is provided by the chaos theory of careers. According to the results of the study, very different paths lead to becoming a multiple job holder. The combination of jobs is influenced by the life path and interests of the individual, as well as by constraints and opportunities available. Motives can also be linked to professional networks, decisions made by immediate family, coincidences or whims. This book helps to understand the diversity of ways of working. At the same time, it illustrates the challenges faced by those who work multiple jobs as they try to operate within simpler models and categorisations of labour. It is essential reading for anyone interested in the changing nature of work, especially researchers, students and policy-makers.

Description: The volume is a comprehensive handbook of oral history and memory studies in Finland. The Finnish research field has originally emerged at the collaborative intersection of history, folklore studies, and ethnology. Since then, this field has developed into vibrant multi- and cross-disciplinary arena characterized by a strong focus on methodological issues related to memory in culture and theoretical engagement with studies on narration and processes of remembering. The chapters of the book explore the perspectives on the production of memory-based knowledge in oral history interviews and collection campaigns of written reminiscences. Moreover, the book introduces versatile methodological approaches to the study of memory and memories, ranging from narrative to corpus analysis, and investigates the multiple media of remembrance from documentary film to museum exhibition. The chapters of the book also engage the field’s disciplinary position and interrogate the potentials and challenges related to the application of the methods of oral history research and the use of memory-based knowledge beyond academia in political, societal, and community-based projects.

Ancak COVID-19 krizi ile birlikte bu ekonomik sistemin nasıl bir sonuç doğurduğuna hep birlikte şahit olduk. Dünyanın en büyük ekonomilerine sahip ülkelerin salgınla mücadelede ihtiyaç duyulan en temel koruma malzemelerini sağlamakta aciz duruma düşmesi, hastaları seçerek tedaviye almaları ve diğerlerini ölüme terk etmeleri, ölen insanlarını taşıyacak tabutları ve gömecek yerlerinin olmaması mevcut sistemlerin ne kadar insani olduğu sorununu somut bir şekilde ortaya çıkardı. Uluslararası rekabette en başarılı ülkeler, üstünlük sağlayan sektörlere ve üretime odaklanarak ekonomik gelişme stratejilerini bugüne kadar sürdürdüler. Ancak uzun tedarik zincirlerine ve küreselleşmeye dayalı bu yapı çökerken, katı sınırlar ve ulusal üretimlerle bu boşluğu doldurma arayışı ön plana çıktı. Ekonomiyle birlikte fonksiyonları zayıflayan, hizmet alan ve kapasitesi kısıtlanan devlet aygıtı ve yapısı, yaşanan salgınla birlikte büyük bir krizle karşı karşıya kaldı. COVID-19 salgınıyla birlikte ekonomik gelişmelere rağmen, sağlık hizmetlerinin ve tarımsal üretimin acil hallerde yarattığı etkilerinin insanlığı tehdit edecek boyutlara nasıl ulaştığını yaşayarak tecrübe ettik. Salgın ile birlikte tarımsal üretim başta olmak üzere temel ihtiyaçları karşılayacak üretimi yapabilmenin önemini bir kez daha anladık. Maske, solunum cihazı, ilaç ve aşı gibi halk sağlığı alanlarında üretim ve hizmetleri sunmanın ne kadar önemli olduğunun bilincine vardık. Üretimlerin stratejik öneminin dönemsel ve ihtiyaçlara göre değişebildiği gerçeğini bir kez daha yaşadık ve paramız olsa da bazı ürünleri ve hizmetleri satın alamayacağımızı gördük. Salgın, küresel düzeyde neredeyse hepimizi ruhsal, fiziksel ve sosyal açıdan eşitleyerek; sağlık, eğitim, gelir eşitsizliği, yoksulluk, işsizlik, göç, iklim krizi, temel insan ihtiyaçlarına erişim dahil her alanda yeni farkındalıklar oluşturdu. Salgın, bir yönüyle bencilliği besledi, dayanışmayı azalttı, yalnızlığa, biyolojik olduğu kadar psikolojik sorunlara ve bilgi kirliliğine yol açtı, ölüm korkusunu bireysel olmaktan çıkarıp, toplumsallaştırdı. Diğer yönüyle de dayanışma ihtiyacını artırdı ve ortak kader duygusunu güçlendirdi. Bu nedenle sosyal uyumu esas alan bir anlayışa olan ihtiyacımız daha fazla önem kazandı. Bundan dolayı toplumsal savrulmayı önleyecek ve panik yaşanmasına fırsat vermeyecek yapılanmaya ihtiyacımız arttı. 1980 sonrasında neoliberal rüzgârların etkisiyle yapılan özelleştirmelerle Türkiye’de de devlet nispeten küçültüldü, ekonomik ve sosyal sorunların yaşandığı bir dönemde küresel salgınla karşılaşıldı. Ancak genel sağlık sigortası, hastane sayısı, yatak kapasitesi gibi alanlarda sahip olduğumuz potansiyel ve kriz yönetme becerimiz sayesinde süreci nispeten daha iyi şartlarda geçirmekteyiz. Fakat bu gerçeğe rağmen ülkemizin de yeni şartlara adapte olmasını sağlayacak, krizi en az zararla atlatacak ve 21. yüzyılın ihtiyaçlarını karşılayacak yeniden yapılanmaya ihtiyacı artmaktadır. Ekonomik ve sosyal alanda yaşananlar yeni bir paradigma değişikliğine ihtiyaç olduğunu gösteriyor. Çünkü doyumsuzluğu ve obeziteyi besleyen sınırsız ihtiyaçlar algısı yerine, ihtiyaçların sınırlı olduğu ve isteklerin sınırlandırılabileceğini esas alan, bilgi hariç kaynakların sınırlı olduğu ilkesine dayalı yeni bir ekonomik düzeni inşa edecek bir paradigma değişikliğine yönelik beklenti artıyor. Kriz sürecini en az zararla atlatabilmek için hep birlikte dayanışma içinde mücadele ederek, küresel düzeyde yükselen işkollarını ve meslekleri esas alarak, endüstrileri ve iş piyasalarını yeniden yapılandırmak gerekiyor. Bu kitabın editörlüğünü üstelenen, yazar olarak katkıda bulunan ve hazırlanmasında görev alan fakültemizin çok kıymetli hocalarına bu vesileyle bir kez daha çok teşekkür ediyorum. 84 yıllık birikimimize uygun bir şekilde dünyada ve ülkemizde yaşanan ve yaşanacak sorunlara öğretim üyelerimiz kayıtsız kalmamış, var olan zor şartlara rağmen alternatifler üreterek, yol gösterici öngörülerde bulunmuşlardır. Hiç kuşkusuz bu kitap ön çalışma niteliğindedir, verilere ulaşıldıkça detaylandırılacaktır. Ufuk açıcı ve faydalı olması dileğiyle saygılar sunuyorum.

Ağustos 2021 tarihinde 11. Kalkınma Planı ile Cumhurbaşkanlığı Yıllık Programları doğrultusunda, Türkiye Cumhuriyeti Dijital Dönüşüm Ofisi tarafından Ulusal Yapay Zekâ Stratejisi yayınlanmıştır. Raporda belirlenen stratejik öncelikler arasında vurgulandığı üzere, dönem sonu 2025 yılında yapay zekânın gayrisafi yurtiçi hasılaya katkısının %5’e yükseltilmesi hedeflenmektedir. 21. yüzyıl ülkelerinin refah düzeyini bilgiye ulaşma, bilgiyi işleme ve bilgiyi kullanma düzeyi belirlemektedir. Ancak gelecek yönelimlerinde, kompleks niteliklerle çok daha hızlı seyreden teknolojik gelişmeler ile yasal ve etik düzenlemeler senkronize değildir. Gelecekte genom bilimi, malzeme bilimi, nanoteknoloji, doku mühendisliği, bilgi bankaları, veri işleme, doğal dil işleme, sanal gerçeklik ve tıp bilişimi desteğiyle akıllı sağlık uygulamaları öngörülenden çok daha ileri boyutlara taşınabilecektir.

Description: Engellilik Tarihi Yazıları, 15-16 Kasım 2018 tarihinde İstanbul Üniversitesi Engelliler Uygulama Merkezi ve İstanbul Büyükşehir Belediyesi Sağlık Daire Başkanlığı Engelliler Müdürlüğü işbirliği ile düzenlenen Dünden Bugüne Engellilik-Engellilik Araştırmaları Konferansı’nda sunulan çalışmalardan derlendi. Engellilik meselesini disiplinler arası bir yaklaşımla inceleyen ‘Engellilik Araştırmaları’, kuramsal ve uygulamalı bir bilim alanıdır. Bu alan 1970’li yıllarda Amerika Birleşik Devletleri ve İngiltere’de başlayan engelli hakları hareketinin akademik çalışmalara yansımasıyla ortaya çıktı. Sonraki yıllarda engelliliği sosyal, kültürel, tarihsel, hukuki, politik ve etik yönleriyle ele alan disiplinler arası bir araştırma alanı olarak Amerika ve Avrupa’ya yayıldı, pek çok üniversitede lisansüstü, hatta lisans düzeyinde programlar başlatıldı. Türkiye’de 2017 yılında, engellilik araştırmalarının geliştirilmesi amacıyla, İstanbul Üniversitesi Sosyal Bilimler Enstitüsü Engellilik Araştırmaları Anabilim Dalı kurularak, yüksek lisans programı açıldı. Engellilik deneyiminin kişisel ve toplumsal düzeyde etkilerini incelemeyi hedefleyen bu programın belkemiğini oluşturan konulardan birisi de, toplumlarda engelliliğin tarihsel ve sosyokültürel boyutlarıydı. Türkiye’de engelliliğin tarihsel ve sosyo-kültürel boyutlarını ilgilendiren alanlarda farklı disiplinler tarafından yapılmış bazı çalışmalara rastlanmaktadır. Bununla birlikte, engellilik çalışmalarıyla ilgilenen araştırmacılar için kaynak ihtiyacı açık bir şekilde eksikliği hissedilen bir konudur. Engellilik Tarihi Yazıları bu amaçla yola çıkmış bir çalışmanın ürünüdür. 2018 Kasım ayında İstanbul’da gerçekleştirilen Engellilik Araştırmaları Konferansı’nın teması Türkiye’de engelliliğin tarihsel, kurumsal, hukuksal ve sosyo-kültürel açıdan incelenmesi hedef alınarak, Dünden Bugüne Engellilik olarak belirlenmişti. Bu konferansta düzenlenen çeşitli panellerde Osmanlı İmparatorluğu’ndan Türkiye Cumhuriyeti’ne uzanan geniş bir tarihsel süreç içinde eğitim, istihdam, sosyal yaşam, edebiyat, din gibi alanlarda engellilik konusunda araştırma sonuçları ve bildiriler sunuldu. Ayrıca, Türkiye’de fiziksel tıp ve rehabilitasyonun, özel eğitimin, engellilikle ilgili politikaları oluşturan ve yürüten kurumların tarihsel süreçleri, ilgili konuların uzmanları olan öğretim üyeleri ve bürokratlar tarafından aktarıldı. Engelli hakları ve savunuculuk konusunda sivil toplumdaki hareketlilik 2000 yılı öncesi ve sonrasında faaliyet gösteren önemli sivil toplum örgütü temsilcilerinin yer aldığı panellerde tartışıldı. Bu konferansta sunulan araştırmalardan bazıları ve konferansta sunulmamış olmakla birlikte konuya doğrudan katkı sunabilecek diğer araştırmalar Engellilik Tarihi Yazıları’nda bir araya getirildi. Böylelikle, Türkiye’de henüz yeni gelişmekte olan engellilik tarihi çalışmaları alanında ilk safhada izlenen yaklaşımları ve yapılan araştırmaları görmeyi mümkün kılan ilk derlemenin araştırmacılara sunulması hedeflendi.

Description: Quality of life depends on a series of objective indicators and subjective evaluations of all the living spaces that affect human beings’ economic, social, physical, and psychological dimensions and has the potential to serve individual and social development. Ensuring satisfactory quality of life will bring about decent socio-economic conditions, such as in the conceptualization of decent work. Newly improved conditions will also bring higher quality, and policymakers and decision-makers at the institutional level have great responsibilities in this context. This book addresses quality of life and its related issues from an interdisciplinary perspective and discusses them at a conceptual and theoretical level. The book includes classifying the quality of life indicators by considering their individual, social, economic, and organizational context. The application section examines the quality of life of international students, a fragile population group who’ve experienced various disadvantages during the COVID-19 global health crisis. As a matter of fact, each international student provides human capital at the global level, and serves to construct an incorruptible and inexhaustible value in shaping a future that concerns all of humanity. This value will preserve its existence in all economic, social, cultural, and political fields and serve as the mortar in constructing the foundations for a better quality of life. This book has been prepared with this intention in order to address the issue of quality of life and to guide the decisions and practices regarding identifying the quality of life and problem areas of international students studying at Istanbul University in the context of COVID-19 restrictions.

The central ambition is to discuss and exemplify the specific questions and problems that semiotics' encounter with objects of study in art studies gives rise to. These include questions about visual communication and visual codes, materiality and mediality as well as in other contexts overlooked aspects of the sign, as well as the historicity of the sign and thus the interpretation. The anthology's six chapters include studies of contemporary fashion photography and sculpture, pre- and post-industrial furniture, 17th- and 19th-century oil painting, and 19th-century press images.

Description: Nothing exceptional happened in front of the youth association building in Kalajoki on 9 September 1953. There was a minor confrontation between regional police forces and local youth, but hundreds of similar events happened in small municipalities across Finland. The event took about ten minutes, nobody was seriously hurt, and collective feelings quickly calmed down. However, after extensive investigations, the regional prosecutor thought otherwise and prosecuted half a dozen local men for rebellion against the state in January 1954. The district court agreed. The municipality was shocked, and the Finnish society was taken by surprise. The case ended up in Supreme Court. This book analyses why and how the last rebellion in the history of Finland occurred in a tiny municipality on the west coast of Finland. The analysis is based on historical microsociology that integrates the insights of microhistory and microsociology into event structure analysis and collective memory studies.

Description: Matti Kurikka (1863–1915) is a multi-dimensional and controversial character in Finnish history. He was a playwright, a journalist, a socialist, and a theosophist, as well as a speaker for sexual emancipation and women's rights. Kurikka was born in Ingria, and his activities spanned not only Finland, but also Australia and North America, in both of which he led utopian communities. This biographical study explores Kurikka as a literary and political figure and a builder of utopias, whose life opens fascinating views on the societal and cultural currents of the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. The book critically re-evaluates earlier research on Kurikka and highlights forgotten phases of his life by using new source materials found in three continents. The sources include digitized newspapers and periodicals, Kurikka's plays and non-fictional books, oral history, and political cartoons.

Yükseköğretim tarihi ile ilgilenmeye başladıktan sonra birer belge niteliği taşıyan çeşitli alanlardaki diplomaların kendilerini ve kopyalarını toplamaya başladım ve zaman içinde bir diploma koleksiyonu ortaya çıktı. Bunlara öğrenci kimlik ve belgeleri de eklendi. On yıl önce bunlardan bir sergi açma gündeme geldiyse de çeşitli nedenlerle gerçekleşemedi ve hazırladığım sergi kataloğu da bir taslak halinde kaldı. Yakın dönemde bu projeye eski bir mensubu olduğum İstanbul Üniversitesi tarafından sahip çıkıldı. Bu kitap İstanbul Üniversitesi Rektörlüğü tarafından düzenlenmesi planlanan “Osmanlı’dan Cumhuriyet’e Yükseköğrenim Diploma ve Belgeleri” adlı serginin genişletilmiş kataloğudur. Sergi özel koleksiyonumda bulunan diploma ve belgelerin seçilmiş bir bölümünü içerecektir. Kitapta ise koleksiyonumda bulunan tüm diploma ve belgelere yer verildiği gibi belirli bir alan veya okul için kronolojik açıdan boşluk olan yerlerde sürekliliği sağlamak amacıyla çeşitli kaynaklardan alınan bazı diploma ve belgeler de verilmiştir. Ayrıca, diploma ve belgelerin yanına ilginç bazı fotoğraflflar da eklenmiştir. Böylece diplomalar üzerinden Türkiye’deki yükseköğretimin tarihinin ana hatları da verilmeye çalışılmıştır, Diplomalar büyük bir çaba gösterip emek harcayarak onları elde etmiş olan sahipleri açısından hem manen ve hem de kendilerine bir iş sağlaması bakımından maddeten büyük değer taşır ve korunur. Ancak, piyasada çok sayıda eski diplomanın satılır olması ailelerdeki aidiyet duygusunun genellikle zayıf olmasından dolayı kişilerin ölümünden sonra çocuklarının anne veya babalarının diplomalarını evde koyacak bir yer bulamamalarından olsa gerek eskiciye satmalarından kaynaklanmaktadır. Kitapta bulunan ve kaynak gösterilmemiş olan tüm diploma, belge ve fotoğraflflar özel koleksiyonumdadır. Elli yıllık geçmişi olan ve artık tarihsellik kazanmış bulunan kendi diploma ve bazı belgelerimi de kitaba ekledim. Burada sunulan diplomaların ve belgelerin bir bölümü daha önce yaptığım çeşitli yayınlarda yayınlanmış olmakla birlikte önemli bir bölümü ilk kez yayınlanmaktadır. Kitap düzenlenirken diploma ve belgeler tıp ve sağlık bilimleri, sosyal bilimler, fen bilimleri ve mühendislik olmak üzere kendi içlerinde alt bölümlere ayrılan dört ana grup altında toplanmıştır. Her bölümün başında o okulun veya kurumun geçmişine ilişkin çok kısa bir bilgi verilmiştir. Aynı kökten gelen farklı okul ve kurumlar için verilen bilgilerde ister istemez bazı küçük tekrarlar da olmuştur. Bazı çok önemli kişi veya olaylar hakkında da kısa açıklamalar yapılmıştır. Kitabın son kısmında doğrudan yükseköğrenim ile ilişkili olmamakla birlikte eğitim tarihimiz açısından önem taşıyan bazı diploma ve belgelere de yer verilmiştir. Ayrıca, kitaba Türkiye’deki yükseköğretimin toplu bir kronolojisi de eklenmiştir. Bazı okullar ve dönemler için diploma ve belge bulmak son derece güçtür. Örneğin, İnâs Darülfünunu’nun bu güne kadar bilinen iki diploması vardır. Bu güne kadar Darülfünun-ı Şâhâne’den 1908 öncesinde verilmiş Ulûm-ı Âliye-i Diniye Şubesi’ne ilişkin bir diploma dışında başka bir diplomaya rastlanmamıştır. Burada sunulan tıp, sosyal ve fen bilimleri alanlarındaki diploma ve belgelerin çok büyük bir çoğunluğu doğal olarak İstanbul Üniversitesi’nin geçmişine ilişkindir.

Description: Finnish psychiatric practice has been heavily based on institutionalization, and mental hospitals have played important cultural and historical roles in Finland. Our multidisciplinary research focuses on the bodily, spatial, affective, and multisensory aspects of the memories of patients, relatives, staff, and their children. The memories were collected and archived in the Finnish Literature Society in 2014–2015. These 92 written pieces cover the period from the 1930s to the 2010s. They reflect significant changes in Finnish psychiatry and provide crucial insights into the various meanings of mental hospitals in people’s lives, and the social and cultural forces that shape attitudes to and ideas about mental health problems, psychiatric care, and service users today. Drawing on our backgrounds in history, artistic research, and visual, cultural and literary studies, we provide new ways of reading and interpreting the memories and experiences in psychiatry. The study discusses memory, mental hospitals as lived spaces, the history of Finnish psychiatry and the relation between the memories of the different groups of writers. The chapters approach memories from the perspectives of affects and atmospheres, violence and abuse, everyday life at the hospital in the 1930s, feelings of fear and safety in the memories of the children of the staff, and the historically and culturally contingent tensions between hospitals and homes.

Description: 2014 yılında yaz başında (09 Haziran) yaptığımız toplantıya dayanıyor bu kitabın hikâyesi. Toplantıda İstanbul Üniversitesi’nde gönüllülüğü nasıl yaygınlaştıracağımızı tartışmıştık. Hayata geçirebileceğimiz çeşitli uygulamalardan söz etmiş, ancak ne yaparsak yapalım uygulamaların araştırmaya dayanması gerektiğinin altını çizmiştik. Böylelikle Sosyoloji Araştırma Merkezi bünyesinde gerçekleştirdiğimiz “İstanbul Üniversitesi Öğrencilerinin Gönüllülük Algıları, Eğilimleri ve Deneyimleri” araştırması ortaya çıktı. Süreç içerisinde farklı bileşenler eklediğimiz bu araştırma, sonrasında “Üniversitede Gönüllü Olmak” başlığıyla kitaba dönüştü. Ayrıca bu araştırmadan hareketle öğrencilerin gönüllülük konusundaki farkındalıklarını artırmak amacıyla Gönüllü Akademisi (seminer, atölye, film okuması, STK ziyareti vb. etkinliklerden oluşan 10 haftalık bir program) ve Gönüllü Ol İstanbul Platformu (gönüllü olmak isteyenlerle gönüllü arayan STK’ları, projeleri, kampanyaları buluşturmak, eşleştirmek için kurulan İstanbul Üniversitesi öğrencilerine yönelik platform) hayata geçirildi. Elbette araştırma ve uygulamaların tamamı öğrenci arkadaşlarımızla ve hepimizin gönüllü çalışmalarıyla ilerledi. En başından itibaren gönüllülük üzerine yapılan çalışmaların doğasını yitirmemesine özen göstermeye -ne kadar başarabildik bilmiyoruz elbette- gayret ettik. Gerek Gönüllü Akademisine gerekse düzenlediğimiz gönüllülük çalışmalarına 1000’den fazla öğrenci dahil oldu. Bunun yanı sıra Sosyoloji Bölümü bünyesinde Sivil Toplum ve Gönüllülük dersi açıldı ve öğrencilerin ilgi gösterdiği önemli seçmeli derslerden biri hâline geldi. Bunu yine Sosyoloji Bölümü bünyesinde açılan STK ve Sosyal Sorumluluk Yönetimi Tezsiz Yüksek Lisans programı takip etti. Bu program STK alanındaki öncü ve deneyimli isimlerin verdiği dersler üzerine temellendirildi. Daha çok sektörde çalışan profesyonellerin, STK alanında çalışmak isteyenlerin ve gönüllülerin katıldığı bir program olarak hâlen sürdürmekteyiz. Bununla birlikte gönüllülük, STK’lar ve ilgili konularda paneller ve çalıştaylar düzenledik. Son olarak Gençlik ve Spor Bakanlığı için Türkiye Gönüllülük Araştırmasını gerçekleştirdik. Bu çerçevede İstanbul Üniversitesi Edebiyat Fakültesi Sosyoloji Bölümü olarak her düzeyde gönüllülük ve STK’lar alanında çalışma yapmaya, öğrenciler arasında gönüllülüğü yaygınlaştırmaya, STK alanında bilgi ve deneyim paylaşımını sağlamaya ve bu alanda ilişki ve işbirliğini geliştirmeye devam ediyoruz. Bu kitabın hazırlayıcı adımlarından biri ise 18 Nisan 2018’de İstanbul Üniversitesi’nde düzenlediğimiz “Üniversitelerde Gönüllülük Dersi Müfredat Çalıştayı”dır. Akademisyenlerin, STK profesyonellerinin, gönüllülerin, öğrenci kulüplerinden temsilcilerin vb. katıldığı bu çalıştayda üniversitelerde gönüllülük müfredatını katılımcı bir perspektifle ele aldık. Bu çalıştayın katılımcılarının fikirleri elinizdeki çalışmanın biçimlenmesinde önemli bir rol oynadı. Çalıştay raporu hazırlandı, ancak raporu yayımlayamadık. Müfredat çalıştayından sonra üniversitelerde seçmeli ders fikri ve bu ders için hazırlanacak materyaller konusunda yeni adımlar planladık. Ancak farklı gündemler nedeniyle o dönem gerçekleştiremediğimiz bu çalışmaya Yükseköğretim Kurulu Başkanlığının 2020 Nisan ayında üniversitelerde “Gönüllülük Çalışmaları” dersinin seçmeli olarak açılmasına yönelik aldığı kararla yeniden döndük ve kitap çalışmalarımızı hızlandırdık. Bu çalışmanın kapsayıcı ve kuşatıcı olmasına özen göstermemiz ve farklı konuları ele alma arzumuz nedeniyle süreç biraz uzadı, ancak nihayet tamamlandı ve artık karşınızdayız. “Gönüllülük ve Gönüllülerle Birlikte Çalışmak” gönüllülüğü farklı boyutlarıyla ele alarak günümüzde gönüllülükle ilgili çok sayıdaki bağlamı ve kavramı okuyucuya sunma hedefini taşıyor. Ancak her bir bölümün kendi içinde belirdiği haliyle gönüllülüğü farklılaştıran boyutları göz ardı etmiyor. Günümüzde gönüllülüğün ancak tüm boyutları ile ele alındığı takdirde tarihsel ve toplumsal bağlamla ilişki kurmanın mümkün olduğunu iddia ediyor bu kitap. Kitapta birçok başlık yalnız STK yöneticilerine hitap ediyor gibi görünmekle birlikte burada asıl hedef gönüllülük yapacak kişileri bilgilendirmek, onları gönüllülük faaliyetlerine hazır hale getirmek, STK yöneticilerinin farkındalığını sağlamak ve gönüllülerin gelecekte hayata geçirecekleri kendi gönüllülük girişimlerini daha nitelikli hâle getirmelerine katkıda bulunmaktır. Kitap okuyuculara gönüllülüğün farklı boyutlarını tanıma imkânı sunmaktadır. Kitabın iki boyutu olduğu söylenebilir: Birincisi gönüllülük deneyimi sınırlı olan ya da hiç gönüllü olmamış kişilere gönüllülüğün farklı boyutlarını göstermektir. İkincisi ise kişilerin gönüllülük çalışmaları organize etmeleri, bu yönde inisiyatif almaları durumunda gönüllülerle beraber nasıl çalışabilecekleri konusunda onlara yeni araçlar sağlamaktır. Evrensel boyutları olsa da gönüllülük toplumların kültürel, tarihi, dini, siyasi, ekonomik ve coğrafi birikimine bağlı olarak ortaya çıkar. Bu nedenle kitapta son 50 yıldır yaşanan yeni gelişmelere ve eğilimlere yer verirken Türkiye’nin kendine özgü bir gönüllülük anlayışına ve kültürüne sahip olduğunu unutmadan ilerlemeye çalışıyoruz. Türkiye’nin gönüllülük alanındaki köklü ve zengin birikiminin toplumun inanç ve yaşama kültürüne yaslandığını, gönüllülüğün karşılıksız bir dayanışmayı içerdiğini sıklıkla vurguluyoruz. Diğer taraftan gönüllülüğün farklı boyutlarını tanıtarak eleştirel bir perspektiften tartışmayı, bu tartışmayı derinleştirmeyi ve nitelikli hâle getirmeyi, yeni araştırma ve uygulama odaklarını göstermeyi amaçlıyoruz. Kitabın içerik tasarımında gönüllülük sahasının öncelikli konularına yer vermeyi amaç edindik. Bölümlerin bazıları kuramsal tartışmalara ve yaklaşımlara odaklanırken bir kısmı gönüllülüğün uygulama boyutuyla ilişkilidir. Ayrıca alandaki yeni eğilimlere ve tartışmalı konulara da kitapta bölüm düzeyinde yer verdik. Gönüllülüğün modern dönemde değişen doğasını ve 1970’li yıllar sonrasında gelişen neoliberal bağlamı ihmal etmeden ama güncel gelişmeleri de görmezden gelmeden gönüllülükle ilişkili temel konuları ele almaya çalıştık. Bu yaklaşım tanıyarak tartışmayı ve eleştirel bir perspektif geliştirmeyi içermektedir. Bu nedenle kitapta birbirleriyle çelişkili gibi duran, farklı perspektiflere sahip kavramlara ve yaklaşımlara yer verilmesi alanı tanıtmanın ve eleştirel bir perspektif geliştirmenin öncelikli bir hedef olmasıyla ilgilidir. Giriş dahil on altı farklı bölümden farklı bölümden oluşan kitapta yazarlar arasında ortak bir dil oluşturmaya çalışırken her bir yazarın ve konunun gerektirdiği perspektifi korumaya özen gösterdik. Her bölümün kendi içerisinde farklı konumlanma ve değerlendirmeler ihtiva etmesine imkân tanıdık. Bu nedenle kitabı okurken hem bir bütün hem de birbirinden farklı parçalarla karşı karşıya olduğunuzu hatırdan çıkarmamanızı diliyoruz. Yazarların gönüllülüğe bakışı, gönüllülüğü kavrama biçimleri, alandaki konumlanmaları, uygulama tercihleri vb. hususların bir zenginlik olduğunu düşünüyoruz. Kitabın yayımlanmasından sonra okuyuculardan gelecek geri dönüşler ve yazarların kendi aralarında yapacakları tartışmalar neticesinde hem kitabın mevcut halinin geliştirilmesi mümkün olacak hem de yeni yazarlar ve bölümlerin eklenmesiyle eser genişleyerek okuyucusuna yeni perspektifler sunmaya devam edecektir.

Description: Approximation of Turkish Law with European Union Law maintains its importance and actuality apart from the context of full membership goal as well. Global trade requires interplay between all world countries with regard to the development and formation of public and private law. Private law regulations in Continental Europe, that constitute models for Turkish law, have been developing under the influence of European Union Law. In any field of law, the authority of the European Union to intervene in national laws is limited to the competences provided by the Treaties. Therefore, acts of the European Union in the field of private law aims the improvement of the internal market and enhanced cooperation between the Member States both by harmonization of national laws and their implementation. Studies and proposals carried out by the European Union for the harmonization of laws should be/are closely followed by our country. Establishment of Customs Union between Turkey and European Union in 1995 with the 1/95 numbered Community Council Decision and initiation of accession negotiations in October 2005 have accelerated the harmonization process of Turkish law with the European Union law. In the heat of these events, it can be observed that the preamble of most of the main codifications and secondary regulations in the field of company law, banking and capital markets law, intellectual and commercial property law, competition law, consumer law and protection of personal data law; reflects the aim of approximation with European Union legislation. Turkey’s geographical location, parallelly the fact that majority of the states, which Turkey has economical, cultural and sociological relations with, are members of the European Union following the impact of European Union on the model laws of Turkish laws, including Swiss law which keep tab on European Union law, necessitates the harmonization of European Union law to remain on Turkish lawyers’ agenda in the future as well. Hence, this Book Project has been prepared by the first documentation center acknowledged by European Union’s competent publishing and distribution bodies, Istanbul University Faculty of Law European Law Application and Research Center, with the object of providing a source for publications and conferences of Turkish lawyers who are keen to work in this field. This Project is an academic study and reflects the evaluation of the authors on harmonization of Turkish law with European Union law and their opinions for the methodology for an approximation of Turkish legislation. Although it is not either an official report or an action plan, it has been prepared with the view of providing a reference to public authorities, especially Ministry of Foreign Affairs Directorate for European Union Affairs and European Union harmonization offices in other relevant ministries. The preparation phase of this Project includes determination of the subdisciplines of Turkish private law, in which harmonization with European Union law, has been taken in regard. The specification of a certain topic is left to the authors. As a matter of course, it was not possible for us to cover all the subdisciplines of private law likewise to examine the entire European Union acquis in the included fields. Our perspective is to provide an insight into European law, its comparison with European Union law and evaluation of alignment. With this regard, every contributor examined the regulation which includes the most general rules on that topic. Although the examined regulations have been enacted on the legal basis of the Treaties, the relevant articles have been explained under the “Remarks” title. In this way, with the exception of topics under “Competition Law” chapter, only the masthead of the acts of European Union organs are shown under the “Legislation” title. Besides, all the examined European Union legislation and their legal basis are shown in the European Union legislation list and index at the end of this book. Subdisciplines of private law to be studied has been designated taking into account several factors, such as the necessity of reevaluation and updating with the current acquis, despite the fact that Turkey’s remarkable progress in the past according to the European Commission country reports; Ministry of European Union’s Action Plan covering the years of 2016-2019; 11th development plan of Turkish Presidency. Thus, the Project touches on Company Law, Financial Services, Consumer and Health Protection, Intellectual Property chapters which have been opened for negotiations, and Competition Policy chapter that has not yet been opened for negotiation alongside the Protection Of Personal Data which is not itself a negotiation chapter but concerns several chapters of negotiation. Regulations in the aforementioned fields have been analyzed under the Company Law, Banking and Capital Markets Law, Intellectual and Commercial Property Law, Competition Law, Consumer Law and Protection of Personal Data Law main titles. Within the scope of the Project, contributors were expected to prepare their work according to the following outline: I. Legislation A. European Union Legislation B. Turkish Legislation; II. Remarks A. European Union Law, B. Turkish Law; III. Assessments and Suggestions. By this means, the necessity of the readers to get conveniently informed solely on the European Union Law or Turkish law related to that subject is considered. Assessments and suggestions have been provided under a separate title with the view of improving on the perception of approximation with European Union which only focuses on the translation of legislation and relation of European Union law with Turkish law can be put forward in an integrated mindset. Under this title, the conclusions reached by evaluating Turkish law and European Union law have been placed in numerical order. In other respects, contributors were provided flexibility in terms of methodology to be used for their remarks and assessments and freedom to include the Turkish translation of the relevant European Union legislation and place article proposals for Turkish legislation. Editorial Board elaborated on determining the main subjects and, alongside the review of all studies with respect to the fundamental aim of this book, providing for systematical coherence thereof.

Description: Türk hukukunun Avrupa Birliği hukukuna uyumunun sağlanması, tam üyelik hedefi bağlamında ve bunun dışında ülkemizde önemini ve güncelliğini koruyan bir meseledir. Küresel ticaret, yalnızca ülkemiz değil bütün dünya ülkelerinde kamu ve özel hukukun gelişim ve şekillenmesinde etkileşim içerisinde olmayı gerektirmektedir. Türk hukukunda özel hukuk alanında ağırlıkla takip edilen mehaz hukuk düzenlemeleri ise Avrupa Birliği’nin etkisi altında gelişmektedir. Avrupa Birliği organlarının herhangi bir hukuk alanında düzenleme yapma yetkisi kurucu anlaşmalarla üye devletlerin Birliğe bırakmış olduğu yetkiler ile sınırlıdır. Özel hukuk alanındaki Avrupa Birliği tasarrufları, temel olarak iç pazarın geliştirilmesi/ güçlendirilmesi ve tüm üye devletlerin hukuk düzenlemeleri ile uygulamalarının uyumlaştırılması hedefine yönelir. Bu alanda Avrupa Birliği tarafından yürütülen iç hukukların yakınlaştırılmasına yönelik çalışmalar ve tasarruflar ülkemizce yakından takip edilmektedir/edilmelidir. 1/95 sayılı Ortaklık Konseyi Kararı ile 1995 yılında Gümrük Birliği’nin tesisi ve Ekim 2005’te katılım müzakerelerinin açılması Avrupa Birliği mevzuatıyla uyum sürecine ivme katan gelişmelerdendir. Bu gelişmelerin etkisinde ülkemizde şirketler hukuku, bankacılık ve sermaye piyasası hukuku, fikrî ve sınai mülkiyet hukuku, rekabet hukuku, tüketici hukuku ve kişisel verilerin korunması hukuku alanlarında çıkarılan kanunların ve ikincil mevzuatın genel gerekçelerine Avrupa Birliği mevzuatıyla uyum amacının aksettirildiği görülmektedir. Ülkemizin coğrafi konumu, buna paralel olarak ekonomik, kültürel ve sosyolojik açıdan ilişki içinde bulunduğu devletlerin ekseriyetinin anılan Birlik içinde bulunmaları, takiben yürürlükte bulunan mevzuatımız üzerinde Avrupa Birliği hukukunun ve Birlik düzenlemelerini oldukça sıkı bir şekilde takip eden İsviçre’nin etkisi, Avrupa Birliği hukukuyla uyumun gelecekte de Türk hukukçularının gündeminde kalmasını gerektirmektedir. İşbu Kitap projesi 1973 yılında kurulan ve Avrupa Birliği’nin yetkili yayın ve dağıtım kuruluşlarınca tanınan Türkiye’deki ilk dokümantasyon merkezi olan İstanbul Üniversitesi Hukuk Fakültesi Avrupa Hukuku Uygulama ve Araştırma Merkezi tarafından, Türk hukukçularının bu alanda yapacağı bilimsel eserlere ve toplantılara kaynaklık etme gayesiyle hazırlanmıştır. Proje, akademik çalışma niteliğindedir ve yazarların Türk ve Avrupa Birliği hukukunun uyumuna ilişkin güncel değerlendirmeleri ile mevzuat yakınlaştırmasının ne şekilde yapılabileceği hakkında görüşlerini içermektedir. Çalışmanın başta Dışişleri Bakanlığı Avrupa Birliği Başkanlığı ve diğer ilgili Bakanlıklar nezdinde bulunan Avrupa Birliği uyum komisyonları olmak üzere, kamu mercileri tarafından hazırlanan rapor veya ulusal program/eylem planlarının hayata geçirilmesine yardımcı olması amaçlanmaktadır. Hazırlık sürecinde öncelikle hukukumuzda Avrupa Birliği hukukuyla uyumun gözetildiği özel hukukun alt disiplinleri belirlenmiş, bu alanlarda ele alınacak konunun tercihi proje katılımcılarına bırakılmıştır. Proje, özel hukukun tüm alt disiplinlerini kapsamadığı gibi belirlenen alanlara yönelik tüm Avrupa Birliği müktesebatının da ele alınmadığının altı çizilmelidir. Her bir katılımcı, belirlediği konu başlığı altında konuyu en kapsamlı şekilde ele alan düzenlemeleri incelemektedir. İncelenen düzenlemelerin tamamı Avrupa Birliği Kurucu Antlaşmalarında iç pazarın işleyişine yönelik hükümlere dayanmaktaysa da bu hükümlere, incelenen mevzuatın gösterildiği künyeler yerine Avrupa Birliği hukukuna yönelik açıklamalar başlıkları altında yer verilmektedir. Böylelikle rekabet hukuku bölümü altındaki konu başlıkları hariç, Avrupa Birliği mevzuatı başlığı altında yalnızca Avrupa Birliği organları tarafından çıkarılan tasarrufların künyeleri gösterilmektedir. Bunun yanında incelenen tüm AB mevzuatının Avrupa Birliği Kurucu Antlaşmalarındaki dayanaklarının da gösterildiği listesi kitabın sonunda okuyucuların istifadesine sunulmaktadır. Alt disiplinler, Türkiye’nin belirli bir yol kat ettiği fakat güncel Avrupa Birliği mevzuatı ışığında uyumunun yeniden değerlendirilmesi ihtiyacının bulunduğu alanları kapsayacak şekilde Avrupa Komisyonu Türkiye Ülke Raporları ve 2016- 2019 yıllarını kapsayan Avrupa Birliği Bakanlığı tarafından hazırlanan Avrupa Birliği’ne Katılım İçin Ulusal Eylem Planı ve Cumhurbaşkanlığı 11. Bu nedenle çalışma, müzakerelere açılmış bulunan Şirketler Hukuku, Mali Hizmetler, Tüketicinin ve Sağlığın Korunması, Fikrî Mülkiyet Hukuku ve henüz müzakereye açılmamış bulunan Rekabet Politikası fasılları ile müzakereye açılmış ve açılmamış pek çok fasılda atıfta bulunulan kişisel verilerin korunması alanlarına temas etmektedir. Mezkûr alanlarla ilgili düzenlemeler Şirketler Hukuku, Bankacılık ve Sermaye Piyasası Hukuku, Fikrî ve Sınai Mülkiyet Hukuku, Rekabet Hukuku, Tüketici Hukuku ve Kişisel Verilerin Korunması Hukuku ana başlıkları altında incelenmektedir. Proje kapsamında katılımcılardan çalışmalarını I. Mevzuat A. Avrupa Birliği Hukuku B. Türk Hukuku; II. Açıklamalar A. Avrupa Birliği Hukuku B. Türk Hukuku, III. Değerlendirme ve Öneriler planını takip ederek hazırlamaları beklenmiştir. Bu sayede her bir konuyla alakalı yalnızca Avrupa Birliği hukuku veya yalnızca Türk hukuku hakkında bilgi edinmek isteyen okuyucuların da çalışmadan rahatça istifade edilebilmesi gözetilmiştir. Değerlendirme ve önerilerin ayrı bir başlık altında sıralanmasıyla, Avrupa Birliği mevzuatıyla uyum anlayışının Avrupa Birliği mevzuatının tercüme edilmesinin ötesinde ve hukukumuzla ilişkisinin bütüncül bir yaklaşım ile ele alınarak ortaya konulması hedeflenmektedir. Bu başlık altında Türk hukuku ile Avrupa Birliği hukuku birlikte değerlendirilerek varılan sonuçlara numara sırası ile yer verilmiştir. Description: Finnish Lapland is a historical borderland of Finnish and Sámi cultures. Such a region offers various social-political identifications for people to choose: people may see it possible to identify as Finnish, Laplanders, Lappish or Sámi, for instance. However, the choices have social and political limits, and some identifications are more contested than others. The book examines the processes of identifications in the middle parts of Lapland, just south of the region defined as Sámi homeland in Finland. While the study reveals differences and nuances in people’s thinking, it also shows that there is a recognizable sense of shared cultural specifity around the region. Lapland is conceptualized as an extraordinary place with unusual nature and history, characterized by particular livelihoods (such as reindeer herding) and lively cultural interaction. The book concludes that while Lapland is extraordinary as a historical dwelling region of indigenous Sámi, it may be politically significant to recognize it as a unique borderland of cultures with features of its own.

Description: The link between language and thought formed a major new exploration of twentieth-century philosophy. Languages nuance our ideas and perceptions. Though from various angles, Heidegger, Derrida, Wittgenstein forged new ways of understanding the relationship between our views of the external world and our culturally and linguistically pre-determined modes of expression. Another giant in this field of exploration is the Romanian philosopher Constantin Noica (1909–1987), who has so far remained generally unknown to the Western World because of the Iron Curtain. The Romanian Sentiment of Being (Sentimentul românesc al ființei), first published in Romanian in 1978, is a philosophical work at the intersection of metaphysics and philosophy of language. The title of this book may be deceptive. “Romanian” does not mean ethnically circumscribed; it does not limit ontology to nationality but rather reflects on how language can carry ontological thought. The Romanian Sentiment of Being invites the readers to meditate on the fundamental theme of being and how it is expressed in a culture in time. This being in time marks the tension between moment and eternity, captured in the fairytale ""Ageless Youth and Deathless Life"" (""Tinerețe fără batrânețe și viață fără de moarte""), which Noica interprets in detail. The translation of the story will be found in the appendix. Noica also analyzes one of the most famous poems in Romanian, Mihai Eminescu’s ""The Evening Star"" (""Luceafărul""), and readers will find its translation in the appendix.

Description: A city forms the core of all political and philosophical projects. On one hand, a city is a place of human aspirations and pursuits; on the other, it represents a space of tension and anxiety. This dual and often paradoxical character of the city compels philosophers to constantly cogitate its current status. Philosophy is often defined as the child of the city (polis); it is thus the product of urban life. As a medium of social space and political unity, the city has become a stipulation for philosophical activity. In this sense, philosophy is not deprived of its conditions; alternatively, it is an activity that reveals itself within its prerequisite environment. The book reveals varied philosophical reflections on the city, focusing primarily on the urban crisis and debates on rights to the city. The book also attends to the city-philosophy connection in terms of language, borders, art, architecture, and meta-philosophy. The body of research on the city cannot be reduced to the sum of discourses of technical experts. Beyond this boundary, the city stands in its entirety at the heart of debates on equality, freedom, and liberation, surpassing all types of pragmatic discussion. Max Weber cites the proverb, “Stadtluft macht frei” (the urban air frees), serving as a reminder that a city is also a place of domination and freedom. In this respect, the city is the arena of all types of conflict.

Description: Understanding civilized society encompasses the understanding of cities given that the urban environment, which is a natural reflection of settled life, shapes the civilization of a society. Moreover, cities enriched with the effects of trading functions as centers of modernization. At present, cities are exposed to the influence of different dynamics, which are a result of modern life. This influence plays an important role in the shaping of city life and identity. This study, which is entitled Cities in History with Respect to Humans and Spaces, highlights the transformation of cities throughout history and aims to examine the histories of important cities from the social, cultural, political, and economic perspectives. The study emerges as a result of a meticulous evaluation of original scientific writings in urban history and aims to contribute to research in this field. First, the paper presents an examination of the effect of football on urban identity followed by discussions on the tales of cities penned by Ottoman geographers, the transformation of cities previously dominated by wooden buildings and the impact of fires, the identity of cities under the influence of ideologies, the role of squares in the identification of cities, the role of foundations in shaping city identity, and the effects of asitane, dargah, and khanqah structures in the formation of the social identity of cities.

Günümüzde ise şehirler modern hayatın getirdiği değişik dinamiklerin etkisine maruz kalmakta, söz konusu etki şehir hayatı ve kimliğinin şekillenmesinde giderek daha fazla pay sahibi olmaktadır. Şehirlerin tarih boyunca yaşadığı dönüşümü ele alan “İnsan ve Mekan Açısından Tarihte Şehir” adlı bu çalışma, önemli şehirlerin tarihlerini sosyal, kültürel, siyasi ve ekonomik yönleriyle incelemektedir. Şehir tarihi araştırmalarına katkı sağlamayı amaçlayan bu çalışma alanında özgün bilimsel yazıların titiz bir şekilde değerlendirilmesi sonucunda meydana gelmiştir. Description: Türkiye’de beşerî bilimler sahasının ilk ve en büyük kurumu olan İstanbul Üniversitesi Edebiyat Fakültesi, kuruluşunun 150. yıldönümü olan 2020 yılında bir dizi etkinlik gerçekleştirdi. Elinizdeki kitap da yaşanan pandemi süreci dolayısıyla çoğu dijital ortamda gerçekleştirilen bu etkinlikler manzumesine bir ek ve Fakültemizin kuruluşunun bu önemli yıldönümüne bir armağan olarak tasarlanıp yayımlanmıştır. 1916-1933 yılları arasında neşredilen, tabiatıyla Mayıs 1929’a kadar Arap harfli olarak çıkarılan Felsefe, İçtimaiyat, Tarih, Coğrafya, Edebiyat dergisi Dârülfünun Edebiyat Fakültesi Mecmuası, çoğu Dârülfünun’da müderrislik ya da müderris muavinliği yapan hocaların veya yabancı bilim insanlarının dil, edebiyat, tarih, sosyoloji, felsefe, psikoloji, coğrafya başta olmak üzere beşerî bilimlerin çeşitli alanlarında kaleme aldıkları makalelerin neşredildiği mühim bir akademik yayın organıdır. Toplam 8 cilt ve 49 sayı olarak çıkan mecmuanın ilk sayısı Mart 1332 (1916)’de, son sayısı Kânunusani (Ocak) 1933’te yayımlanır. “Başlangıçta düzenli olarak iki ayda bir neşredilen mecmuanın 1. cildinin 6. ve son sayısı Kânunusani 1332 (Ocak 1916) tarihlidir. Bu sayıdan iki ay sonra yayımlanan ve üzerinde “sene 2, Mart 1331 1917, sayı 7” ibaresi bulunan nüshadan sonra mecmuanın 1. serisinin yayımı Mart 1922 tarihine kadar durdurulmuştur. Bu tarihte çıkan 1. sayı ile ll. cilde ve 2. seriye başlandığından Mart 1333 / 1917’de yayımlanan ve 1. serinin son sayısı olan nüsha herhangi bir cilde dâhil edilememektedir.” Türkiye’nin seferberlik içerisinde ve savaşın tam ortasında bulunduğu 1916 yılının çetin şartları altında, biraz da iktidarda olan İttihat ve Terakki Fırkası’nın resmî ideolojisi olan Türkçülük cereyanı etkisiyle daha çok Türk tarihi, dili, edebiyatı, içtimaiyatı alanlarına ait öncü metinlerin neşredildiği, önemli meselelerin tartışıldığı makalelerle kendisini gösteren Mecmua, daha sonra İslâm felsefesine ağırlık vermeye başlar. Fırkanın Kâtib-i Umumîsi olan ve 1912-1918 arası, kültür, edebiyat, matbuat ve bilim faaliyetlerinin hemen hepsinin bir yerinde bulunan Ziya Gökalp’ın, bu Mecmuanın da fikir babası, en azından yönlendiricisi olduğu kolaylıkla ifade edilebilir. Mecmuada neşredilen yazılarda ele alınan mevzular, esasen pek çok kültür adamı gibi, Türkleşmek-İslâmlaşmak-Muasırlaşmak yazarının da temel meseleleridir. Bergstrasser, T. Lefevr, Ernest Chaput, Franz Babinger, Gustave Lanson gibi yabancı Türkolog ve filologların da pek çok makalesi de telif veya tercüme yoluyla Mecmua’da yerini bulur. Söz konusu yıllarda Osmanlı Devleti’nin Almanya İmparatorluğu ile sadece askerî ittifakı değil, ticarî, sınaî, ilmî alanlardaki işbirliği Dârülfünun, dolayısıyla Mecmuadaki Alman hocaların varlığını izaha kâfidir. Savaşın sonuna doğru yani 1917’de yayınına ara verilen ve Millî Mücadele’nin zaferle sonuçlanmasının hemen ardından neşrine devam edilen Mecmua, 1933 Üniversite Reformuna kadar yayınını sürdürecektir. Çok ciddî maddi sıkıntıların yaşandığı 1922 yılında, Mecmuanın yeniden hayata dönmesi, döndürülmesi bu yayın faaliyetine atfedilen önem hakkında çok fikir vericidir. Hakikaten Dârülfünun Edebiyat Fakültesi Mecmuası, Türkiye’de dil, edebiyat, dilbilimi, felsefe, sosyoloji, psikoloji, ilahiyat ve coğrafya gibi alanlarda ilk ilmî, ciddî, sistemli neşirlerin yapıldığı, sonraki yıllarda daima bir başvuru kaynağı olan bir yayın faaliyeti olmuştur. “Türkolojinin Babası” olarak anılan Ord. Prof. M. Fuad Köprülü’nün Türk dili, edebiyatı, tarihi, inanç sistemi gibi konularda yazmış olduğu makalelerin 11’nin evvela bu mecmuda yayımlanmış olduğunu belirtmek herhâlde kastımızı ifadeye yardımcı olacaktır. Sadece Köprülü’nün etütleri değil, bu mecmuada neşredilmiş araştırma, tenkit, tanıtma vs türlerindeki pek çok makale, bugünün nesillerinin istifadesi için farklı zamanlarda muhtelif alanlardaki akademisyenler tarafından yeni yazıya aktarılmıştır. Bununla beraber bu muazzam ilim hazinesindeki yazıların pek çoğu da araştırmacılardan aynı gayret ve hizmeti beklemektedir. Sosyal Bilimler alanında çalışanlar için Osmanlı Türkçesiyle yazılmış metinleri okumak, okuyabilmek bir ayrıcalık ve bu tür metinlerin yeni harflerle neşri onlar için bir ihtiyaç değilse de yine bu sahalara mensup olan ama formasyonu gereği ya da çeşitli sebeplerle eski yazı okuyamayan pek çok araştırmacı için bu ve benzeri mecmua ve kitapların günümüz alfabesiyle neşri bir zarurettir. Elinizdeki kitap işte bu tür bir endişeden doğmuş ve böylesi bir ihtiyacı kısmen de olsa gidermek maksadıyla neşre hazırlanmıştır. “Kısmen” diyoruz zira ideal olan, elbette Mecmuadaki yazıların tümünün Latin alfabesiyle yayımlanması ve dilimizi, edebiyatımızı, tarihimizi, coğrafyamızı, düşünce ve inanç sistemimizi kendisine mesele edinen herkesin istifadesine sunulmasıdır. Biz, Edebiyat Fakültesi’nin kuruluşunun 150. yıldönümüne armağan olarak düşündüğümüz bu kitaba, görsellerle zenginleştirilmiş 16 adet yazıyı alabildik. Kitapta hangi yazıya, niçin yer verildiği konusuna gelince: 49 sayıda toplam 244 makalenin neşredildiği4 Dârülfünun Edebiyat Fakültesi Mecmuası’nda çıkmış bütün makaleler önemli ve değerlidir. Dolayısıyla sınırlı sayıda metne yer verilebilecek bu kitapta hangi yazının yer alacağına karar vermek kolay olmamıştır. Bununla beraber seçimi kolaylaştıracak bazı ölçütlerimiz vardı. Şöyle ki: Mecmua, Dârülfünun Edebiyat Şubesi’ne ait olduğu için, Şubenin değişik disiplinlerinde hocalığı bulunan isimlere öncelik verildi. Ayrıca Mecmuada çok sayıda ecnebi bilim insanının telif veya tercüme yazısının bulunması, belli oranda bu yazarlara da yer vermeyi gerektiriyordu. Seçimi kolaylaştıran diğer bir unsur ise Mecmuada neşredilen makalelerin alanlara göre sayısı ve oranıydı. Bu anlamda Türk Dili, Doğu Dilleri, Batı Dilleri, dilbilimi, tarih, edebiyat, bilim tarihi, İslâm felsefesi, estetik, coğrafya, sosyoloji, psikoloji gibi disiplinlere bu kitapta mutlaka yer ayrılmalıydı. Öyle de oldu. Kitaptaki yazıların daha önce yeni harflerle yayımlanmamış olanlardan seçilmesi, zaten mesainin başında bir ilke olarak benimsenmişti. Bununla beraber, daha önce neşredilmiş olmak, bir yazının kitaba girmesine mâni de olmadı. Zira asıl gaye, Mecmuanın içerik bakımından zenginliğini, öncülüğünü, dolayısıyla kıymetini aksettirmek ve günümüze taşımaktı. Kitaptaki bazı yazılar, doğrudan editörlerin tercihi doğrultusunda belirlendi. Bazı yazılar da alanın uzmanları ya da yazıları yeni harflere aktaran hocalarımızın, meslektaşlarımızın tercih ve tespitine bırakıldı. Bu 16 yazının ikisinin Farâbî ile ilgili olması yani M. Şemseddin Günaltay’ın Farabî ile ilgili birbirini takip eden iki yazısının kitaba derç edilmesi de UNESCO’nun 2020 yılını Farâbî yılı olarak belirlemesiyle ilgilidir ve bu büyük Türk-İslâm filozofunun hatırasını yâda vesile olması maksadıyladır. Görüleceği gibi kitapta yer alan bu 16 yazının tamamı, hâlihazırda Edebiyat Fakültesi’nin değişik programlarında görev yapan akademisyenler tarafından Latin harflerine aktarılmıştır. Description: Narrative After Postmodernism takes a critical and practical look at the cultural theories of what comes after postmodernism or the postmodern. Alongside contemporary literary authors, the anthology studies diverse contemporary textual phenomena from TV shows to online fan theories and survivalist blogs. The essays compiled in this anthology tentatively apply the theories of the post-postmodern to contemporary texts to see how they might open up for analysis within their new theoretical frameworks or challenge them.The introduction, co-written by all the authors of this volume, introduces the most influential theories of post-postmodernism and contextualizes them within broader intellectual trends of the early 21st Century. The three essays comprising the first part of the volume discuss some of the theories of the postmodern in relation to contemporary works that seem to challenge them. Yet they also strive to clarify and sharpen some of the ideas proposed in the theories of the post-postmodern.The second part of the volume aims to show that it is not only the contemporary texts that move beyond the postmodern – the ways of reading literature and interpreting artworks in different media are also changing. The essays in the second part of the volume inquire about the effects of the contemporary literary culture on the methods of interpretation and ways of reading.

Description: Contrary to the secularism thesis of the 20th century, religion did not disappear from the Western experience. Rather, religiosity took on new forms, which emphasized individuality, experientiality, and corporeality, and highlighted lifestyle consumption. These new spiritualities came to be understood as the opposite of religiosity: people identified themselves as being not religious, but spiritual. The book examines new spiritualities as a concept, a phenomenon, and a subject of research. It introduces the history of the concept and the different past approaches in the research field, and discusses the diversity of the phenomenon of new spiritualities, especially in 21st century Finland, through various case studies. The book shows the multiple ways in which new spiritualities intertwine with different sectors of the society and blur spirituality’s boundary with religion, health care, art, and popular culture, for example. The book is the first book-length presentation in Finnish of the field of new spiritualities.

Description: Sofi Oksanen is the most visible and widely discussed Finnish author of the 21st century, yet her novels have gained less attention than her public performances. This study shifts the focus from the author’s persona to her literary art, proposing to read Oksanen’s fiction from the methodological viewpoint of the rhetorical theory of narrative. Accordingly, Oksanen’s six novels published to date – Stalinin lehmät, Baby Jane, Puhdistus, Kun kyyhkyset katosivat, Norma, and Koirapuisto – are considered as examples of authorial rhetoric and ethics, as narrative and textual constructions, and as affective readerly experiences. Instead of only following the rhetorical theory’s emphasis on character, plot, and progression, however, the study develops a new kind of narrative rhetoric, which also pays attention to language and politics. In the study, Sofi Oksanen emerges as a feminist narrative artist, who employs fiction as a serious rhetorical resource in order to say something worthwhile about the past history as well as the contemporary world.
