Description: The essay aims at reconstructing the history of the University of Florence, from the fall of fascism on July 25th 1943 to the post-World War II period. At the center of this path lies Piero Calamandrei's Rettorato, which began in the summer of 1943 and immediately interrupted by events related to September 8th and the armistice with the Allied powers. As dean of the university, in the aftermath of the Liberation of Florence in August 1944, Calamandrei marked a significant turning point. It was a turning point that not only promptly revived teaching and research functions; but it was also able to provide for the reinstatement of teachers expelled as a result of the racial legislation and for opposition to fascism, along with the beginning of the removals of teachers most involved with the dictatorship. At the same time, in the context of a city deeply involved in the Liberation, the new constitutional order of the Republic began to be drawn; a constitutional project to which Florentine professors - such as Piero Calamandrei and Giorgio La Pira - would offer an outstanding contribution.

Description: The Ars Pharmaceutica, which teaches the way to prepare, dispense and preserve all the components of the preparation and itself in excellent condition, has accompanied the history of the Florentine University with the School of Pharmacy since the foundation of the Royal Institute of Higher Studies (1859 ) until its transformation into a University in 1924. The Pharmacy studies held in the Arcispedale di S. Maria Nuova have seen numerous teachers hold the chairs of Pharmaceutical Chemistry and have important roles in international research, but also in the management of pharmacies in the area. This contribution reviews all the transformations that have historically occurred in the pharmacy throughout 100 years of the University's history.

Description: Contact with Western civilisation generated an enormous amount of translation of Western writings in Japan in the second half of the 19th century. Society and culture of modern Japan were built on this great undertaking, but discrepancies between the source and target languages can create complex entanglements. It is certainly fascinating to pay attention to the very entanglements created in the process of moving from the original language to the language of translation. From this point of view, one of the most interesting examples, the subject of this essay, is the term res publica/republic and its Japanese translation kyōwa, due to their linguistic distances and intersections.

Description: In the last hundred years, the progress of science in its various disciplines has been prodigious and the University of Florence, in connection with international research groups, has developed excellent research. The progress achieved has favored the creation of new university courses and technological transfer with important advantages for the city and its economy. Examples of these interactions are physics and astronomy studies with the application development of new technologies, naturalistic studies with precious natural history collections, structural and biochemical studies for the development of new drugs and vaccines, the numerous applications of mathematical sciences, statistics and information technology and the development of science for the conservation of cultural heritage.

Description: After a long process, the reopening of Milanese canals has become one of the fundamental actions of the Town Plan approved in 2019. A strategic project that plans to reactivate the covered section of the Naviglio Martesana and the Cerchia Interna, reuniting Adda and Ticino rivers, and give new life to the great Renaissance project that Leonardo himself had worked on. In its methodological approach and in the specific outcome achieved, we can recognize elements of continuity with Leonardo’s thinking and contribute to a territorialist reflection on its current relevance.

Description: The article analyses the morphological means used by the Slovenian dialects of Friuli in adapting loan verbs to their aspectual system in comparison to the traditional means of expressing verbal aspect in the indigenous Slavic lexicon. In relation to verbs of Slavic origin, the formation of aspectual pairs was mainly realised by means of prefixation to the base verb (thereby perfectivising it), whereas with loans from the adjacent Romance varieties (Friulian, Italian, Venetian) suffixation proves more productive (yielding imperfectivisation). The analysis is carried out on the dialect of Resia as well as those from the Torre and Natisone Valleys. Despite some differences, in all three dialects there is generally a strong tendency to integrate loan verbs into the aspectual systems of these varieties. Biaspectual verbs, on the other hand, are relatively rare except for the particular case of the verbs in -inat in Resian.

Description: Among his hydraulic designs, Leonardo planned the construction of an artificial lake in an area east of the castle of Vinci, his native village. The project, a surprising demonstration of his perfect knowledge of places where he lived, is illustrated in three drawings found and studied by Renzo Cianchi. Today, it is particularly interesting to analyze the feasibility of Leonardo’s project, by chronologically translating it to the 21st century, namely in 2020. Based on an accurate hydrologic analysis, this paper aims at providing further insights on Leonardo’s study, focusing on the feasibility of the dam.

Description: Leonardo’s manuscripts contain many quotes of ‘his’ Western Alps, well-known mountains sketched, with lakes, rivers and towns, creating outstanding territorial readings. In the 19th century, he became a turning point between medieval representation techniques and the great cartographic reform of the 16th century. Leonardo’s approach to territorial drawing, his evolutionary theories on the history of the Earth, his measuring and survey instruments, his calculation of mountains altitudes can be compared to subsequent maps confirming, , with ideal overlaps, the crystal clear anticipations of the ‘Grande di Vinci’.

The related insight does not have the claim to completeness, but offers an overview, allowing the lector to range over three Lusitanian territories. According to this principle of completeness, the volume is divided in three chapters within which historical, iconographical and literary themes of the 18th century are illustrated. The volume higlights historical facts, literary works, also through an European view of the same period, that have marked the Portuguese, Asian and Brazilian 18th century.

Description: This study, through the use of hundreds of archival documents over a period of about two centuries, highlights the total reversal in the silk trade that occurred from the beginning of the 15th century: silk cloth no longer crossed the Mediterranean from East to West, as in previous centuries, but from West to East. Jewish, Turkish and Syrians merchants, and above all the Sublime Porte showed continued appreciation for Florentine silks. Through the analysis of the sources, every phase of such export is described in detail: the purchase of the cloths in Florence, their shipment, transport and finally the sale through Florentine correspondents in Constantinople. This flow of silks continued until the first decades of the 16th century, only to decline rapidly around the middle of the century.

Description: The Naviglio di Ivrea (Turin) sketched in sheet 563r of the Atlantic Code, drew Leonardo’s attention when he was working as hydraulic engineer in the nearby Milan. A research on the rich documentation available in local archives led to identify techniques and materials used to build the Naviglio, often similar to those in Leonardo’s hydraulic studies and drawings, and to show both its interaction with the surrounding territories and the continuous updates in hydraulic engineering from the XV to the XIX centuries. The persisting relevance of the canal through centuries is a testament to Leonardo’s ancient intuition.

Description: This volume investigates the functional-semantic field of aspectuality in relation to the role of language contact in the development of minority languages in Italy and beyond, highlighting hitherto completely unknown parallels, e.g. contact-induced development of progressive and prospective verbal periphrases. The influences of the dominant languages surface not only in Slavic derivational verbal aspect, but also in the restructuring of morphosyntactic reflexes of aspect. Aspectuality is examined in relation to Slavic micro-languages spoken in Italy (Molise Slavic, Resian, Tersko, Nadiško), Austria (Burgenland Croatian), Germany (Upper Sorbian), Albania (Kaj-nas) and the Baltic, as well as in relation to Arbëresh, Cimbrian, Griko, Lithuanian and Macedonian.

Description: Mercenarism and Lordship are deeply linked in the Italy of the 14th and 15th centuries. It is difficult to distinguish between these two realities. Equally, it is difficult to understand the social impact of the mercenary phenomenon in reference to the lordship (this is an original theme). This work aims to clarify these aspects, with the use of new interpretative categories for the analysis of the complicated dynamics through which the two phenomena influenced each other.

These studies use modern digital survey technologies in order to recognize if, in the remains of the town’s defensive system, there are still traces of the intervention carried out in Leonardo’s time, and integrate these data with the analysis of historical-documentary sources and the results of recent archaeological and stratigraphic analyses. Based on the extensive investigation of the project La signoria rurale nell’Italia del tardo medioevo, this essay examines the numerous cases of peasant rebellion in the Italian peninsula, scarcely known to historians – who have mostly focused on urban uprisings – and never assessed on a large scale. The comparative perspective allows to analyse the causes, contexts, relevance, and results of such revolts, as well as to understand not only the features of lordships in late medieval Italy, but also the nature of the relationship between lords and subjects.

Description: The aim of this article is to discuss a change in the expression of perfective aspect in Griko. According to Rohlfs (1977), this variety of Italo-Greek only possesses a synthetic past perfective form, thus failing to mark a distinction between the past punctual and present perfect values of the perfective. And yet, some changes in the expression of this macrocategory were already taking place at the time of Rohlfs when an originally resultative periphrastic form was beginning to be used beyond its original limits. By taking into account a wider array of sources, including both early and contemporary written attestations, as well as data collected with native speakers, we show how the regrammaticalization of this analytic construction, from resultative to present perfect marker, was already under way in the late nineteenth century and is now completed for some speakers. The article concludes with a number of reflections about the role played by contact in these developments.

The commissioning of elaborate marble funerary monuments, the choice of location for chaplaincies or entire churches, convents and monasteries, and the choice of the religious order to which to entrust them are indicated here as keys to understanding the internal distinctions within the Italian aristocracies. In particular, a new examination of aristocratic patronage between the 14th and 16th centuries is considered a means to address a general revision of the Italian cultural hierarchies and geographies of Vasari's legacy.

Description: During the 19th Century, more than 2000 children of sub-Saharan origin were redeemed from slavery by missionaries and educated in Europe with the aim of sending them back to Africa as «indigenous missionaries». Yet, so far this phenomenon has found no place in historiography and collective memory. Forgotten, perhaps, or removed. The so-called «moretti» were not mere anonymous satellites, orbiting around the European missionaries. Victims of the choices of others, but also protagonists according their own choices, they were real «agents of history». This book is a first attempt to remove them from the peripheries of our narratives and to return them a place and a name. The archives show it clearly: African-Europeans are far from being just recent actors of European history.

Description: The lack of adequate historiographical insights has cast a negative light on the role of lordship in the late medieval economy; it has traditionally been seen as an obstacle to the free expression of market forces and thus to growth. While not endorsing this dated view, neo-institutionalist models have in fact reiterated this negative judgement. This article puts forward an interpretive proposal aimed at nuancing the image of lordship as an economically regressive force and reconsidering its role in late medieval growth processes.

Description: Between the 14th and 15th century, the kinship and consortium systems existing within the Italian aristocratic world significantly affected the way the territorial lordship in the hands of the lay lords were structured and managed by their owners, the self-representation of lordly prerogatives, but also the political action focused on lordships, both within and outside state frameworks. This is a key but little investigated theme. If at the beginning of the period the practices connected with kinship seem to be characterised by a strong dissimilarity, we can observe process of (relative) convergence, even if significant differences remain, particularly (but not only) between the north and south of the Peninsula. A key element in understanding these differences is the different strength of central power and its structures.

Description: Leonardo’s passage through Romagna in 1502 left significant traces in his graphic production, including the codex L and the celebrated map of Imola now at Windsor Castle. These records reveal his direct involvement in the political and military affairs of the region, as shown by the well-known concession letter issued to him by Cesare Borgia in 1502. The chapter presents a critical reexamination of the principal interventions to the fortifications of Cesena between 1502 and 1503, which were the focus of Leonardo’s observations during his stay when Cesare Borgia tried to transform it into the capital of his ephemeral duchy.

Description: During Cesare Borgia’s expedition in Romagna, Leonardo da Vinci designed many public works for Cesena but it is still unclear if he worked in other cities of the region. In particular, a possible passage through Faenza should be investigated. Some scholars think that a drawing of Leonardo’s notebook L (Paris, Institut de France) could be a representation of Faenza cathedral, but this attribution is disputed. Moreover, in Faenza’s countryside there are some original castles with hexagonal, rhomboid or ogival plan. It is not clear if Leonardo knew these buildings, perhaps even before the Borgian military campaign.

Description: Leonardo’s multifaceted experience has often been celebrated as a key historical legacy placed in a distant past. However, an interdisciplinary investigation of Leonardo’s thought, studies and design intentionality, trying to combine art and science, has highlighted the cornerstones of an ante litteram territorialist vision. To the finished product, Leonardo always prefers the knowledge of the most intimate relationships among components of the territory, always understood as a living being, thus giving posterity an immense gallery of possibilities. Therefore, Leonardo’s complex and integrated vision is a viaticum for the project of today’s manifold territory.

Description: The shift between the first and second half of the twentieth century marked a watershed. It represented the “sunset of modernity” and made tradition unattainable, thereby calling into question the very survival of poetry. This collection focuses on the work of Giuseppe Ungaretti as poet, translator, and critic, which took the lead from this fracture. As the essays gathered here show, this fracture took a specific shape in Ungaretti’s work, which was reviewed in distinct ways and had a lasting impact up to the present day, alongside twentieth-century history and poetry. The book thus offers a multifaceted picture aimed at assessing albeit provisionally the later Ungaretti’s writings and his legacy for future generations of writers.

Description: This article deals with morphological non-active verbal voice, which characterises reflexive, middle and passive structures in Standard Albanian and Arbëresh dialects. The data, compared to those of Italian, show that the three different strategies for the realisation of Standard Albanian and Arbëresh non-active morphology interact with the categories of mood, tense and aspect. In particular, these morphological strategies determine a perfective/ imperfective split as well as a series of restrictions which convey different interpretations associated with a stative or eventive interpretation. Particular attention is paid to the possible influence of Italian structures on the Italo-Albanian varieties in the domain of non-active voice.

The aim of the contribution is to highlight – through a series of case studies – the potential of Leonardo's maps as sources for the reconstruction of the historical landscape. The research, starting from some of the maps produced by Leonardo, focused on two of the strands that appeared to be most significant: how to georeference Leonardo’s maps in a GIS environment; topographical analysis aimed at recognising main population centres and road network.

Description: The increase in migration movement worldwide, and the consequent growth of multi-ethnic classes in schools have impacted on the implementation of ethnic bullying, a subtype of bias-based bullying in which victims are targeted because of their ethnic background. Despite the serious consequences of this discriminatory behaviour on the actors involved, research on the role of ethnicity in bullying is still limited. Upon these considerations, the present work aims to shed light on the role of structural factors and psychological mechanisms, explaining ethnic bullying in schools among natives and students with immigrant backgrounds. Specifically, this study is composed of three distinct parts: 1) a systematic review of the association between school and classes’ ethnic diversity and bullying and victimization; 2) a cross-sectional study on the role of ethnic diversity (legal and perceived) on bullying victimization; 3) a longitudinal study on the differential impact of COVID-19 on victimization and emotional symptoms, focusing on natives and students with immigrant background. Finally, the main results of the three studies are discussed, the implications for future studies and interventions are suggested and, policy and education practices are recommended.

Description: In recent decades, the importance of rural lordship in the history of Italy in the late Middle Ages has been reconsidered and reassessed. On the basis of a wealth of archive documentation, this volume offers a systematic and reasoned description of the political, economic, social and cultural aspects of rural lordship in a territory located “on the borders of Italy'” the episcopal principality of Trento in the 14th and 15th centuries. From their castles scattered in the alpine valleys, at the foot of the mountains, the noble families of Trento looked increasingly towards Vienna and the Habsburg empire; in their relations with the peasant world, they set up in the 15th century balances of power destined to remain almost intact throughout the modern age, until the end of the First World War.

The article retraces the reading of the various signs found, in which there appears to be a mixture between the dimension of cartographic survey and the project idea, in a dialectic between territorial potential and criticalities, according to the multidisciplinary approach to territorial science that was explored by Leonardo.

Yet its diffusion was far from marginal: indeed, in most Italian regions it stretched over larger portions of population and territory, larger than in previous centuries. In 2017, a collective research project was undertaken to fill this gap in studies, the PRIN La signoria rurale nel XIV-XV secolo: per ripensare l’Italia tardomedievale. This volume constitutes its latest outcome. It summarises the main acquisitions achieved and provides new reflections on the many themes dealt with in the PRIN research: the economy of lordships, the forms of documentation and celebration, the relationship with cities, states and communities, the political action of the subjects, the social impact of lordship and more.

Their initiatives were supported by Hucpoldings, an illustrious kindred group born in Florence in the mid of the 9th century and spreaded over the Kingdom of Italy. Yet at that time some members of the group were still keeping important interests in the city and in its comitatus. Particularly, the aristocratic kinship known as Adimari had created a strong backing link with the florentine bishopric about the year one thousand. Inspired by their forefathers’ political and cultural heritage, they alternately adapted carolingian patterns of social interaction to contemporary times and needs. In that way they perpetuated their lay leadership over the half of the century.

Leonardo’s artistic and technical work moves between two polarities: the idea of a generating nature and the human aspiration to domination, with a vision of knowledge not yet fragmented by the specialism of modernity. Leonardo’s multifaceted activity is a child of his age: of a Renaissance that was more innovation than method and of a period in which political transformations and a demographic recovery drew new attention to the territory.

These critical issues emerge, in particular, from the study of two interesting case studies, the Roman Amphitheatre in Tarragona, Spain, and the Roman Amphitheatre of Santa Maria Capua Vetere, Italy. Through a contextual interpretation of literary, historiographic and iconographic testimonies, in the light of the expertise of architectural restoration and an in situ cognitive campaign supported by surveys, the main theoretical and design nodes connected to the restoration and enhancement of these monumental complexes are identified: knowledge, conservation, use and management, understood as scheduled maintenance and constant monitoring.

Description: The correspondence between Franco Fortini and Carlo Cassola covers a wide range of time, from 1955 to 1981 and focuses on three core themes: the journey to China in 1955 and the writing of two reportages on this topic; the events of 1965 and the literary fervour arisen around left-wing journals; Cassola’s poetic and literary production, enriched with Fortini’s critical notes. However, and the same time, the correspondence between Cassola and Fortini also shows the birth (and developments) of a complex relationship, characterized by friendship and reciprocal influence, that involves two among the most well-known figures of the twentieth century. The correspondence represents a unique resource for the analysis of the legacy, poetics and cultural background of the two great authors.

Description: The general aim of this study is to investigate how kids and adolescents conceptualize online privacy and the concern about their online privacy through a developmental perspective, while also trying to understand its impact on a safe online surfing environment. Three studies were conducted: 1) a systematic review, which was aimed to clarify the relative strengths and weaknesses of the literature about the construct of online privacy and online privacy concerns among kids and adolescents; 2) a qualitative study, aimed to understand how adolescents define – and consequently understand – the concept of online privacy; 3) a quantitative study, which aimed at addressing whether online surfing is associated with online privacy concerns and with GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation) differently across different ages during adolescence. Finally, the results of the three studies were analysed and discussed in light of the theory background. An analysis of the literature showed how children may have difficulties to fully understand risks in unusual contexts, and that they can have difficulties in responding to situations when they struggled to recognise or understand fully the risks involved. The results of the three studies are discussed, underlining how adolescents understand their online privacy, if they are concerned about their data online, how we should help them manage better their privacy online, and how we should design services, applications and devices to help kids understand better the implication of the Internet on their ‘onlife’ (Floridi, 2015).

Description: At the time of Leonardo da Vinci, numerous landfalls and transversal passages along the Arno made it easily crossable and navigable in Tuscany, from Valdichiana to the coast. In order to develop a specific knowledge of such elements, and to restore a valuable analytical tile for the recognition of the territorial heritage related to Leonardo’s hydraulic design, this chapter presents the work carried out by the authors to map ports, ships, passes and mills along the Arno river course, from Florence to Pisa, also in view of a theoretical reflection on the importance of the water system at Leonardo’s time.

Description: The essay focuses on the relationship between states and rural lordships in northern Italy in the late Middle Ages. Two main questions lie at the core of the investigation: on the one hand, the influence exerted by central authorities on how seigneurial power was performed, legitimised, and transmitted; on the other hand, the role acquired by rural lordships in the organisation of the various states. In both cases the highest attention is paid to the different origins of seigneurial experiences, which still played a crucial part at the end of the Middle Ages in determining the chances of survival of lordships, the lords’ political role, and their prerogatives over subjects.

Description: Is it possible to identify models of self-representation characteristic of rural lords in 14th-15th century Italy? Are these models common to the whole of the Peninsula, from the Alps to Sicily? What are their main features and their privileged channels of transmission? What relations do they have with the city-communal world on one hand, and princely cultures on the other? In order to answer these questions, the essay examines the use of a shared courtly culture, the importance of genealogical celebrations, the patronage and cultural enterprise of the lords and the growth of their direct intellectual dynamism, ending with the renewed importance of the castle in the cultural and social self-representation of the 15th-century lords.

Description: The essay attempts a survey of the economic and social impact of non-landed levies, meaning by this all the drainages of wealth in which the exercise of coercive powers played a decisive role. It follows a “macro” and “geo” economic approach, paying particular attention to the redistribution of wealth on the territory. After an inventory of the different types of levies, it proposes an overview for 4 macro-areas (1. the Alpine and Apennine areas; 2. the marginal areas; 3 the expanding areas of the South and Sicily: 4. Po Valley), with a focus on levies that appear to have the greatest impact. That is: tolls and other charges on trade; control of collective resources; personal burdens (military and civil); and also state taxes, monopolies or tributes belonging to the state and granted to the lords in various forms of delegation, not ubiquitous, but sometimes important. Only a few hints are dedicated to judicial proceeds, rights on the circulation of land and people, and tributes on the borderline with the landed-based ones.

Description: The article examines two explicitly different meanings of the expression 'pervasiveness of lordship'. The first moves from the more commune meaning of pervasiveness, understood as a synonym of capillary diffusion, to distinguish between areas of seigniorial centrality and areas of seigniorial marginality in late medieval Italy. The second meaning understands “pervasiveness” in a less usual sense, i.e. as the capacity of lordship to thoroughly penetrate the surrounding world. After describing this notion of pervasiveness, the article illustrates some examples, drawn from various late medieval Italian regions, of lordships without pervasiveness and of pervasive lordships, questioning the capacity of seigniorial pervasiveness to survive and reconfigure itself in the late Middle Ages.

Vitelli”, Florence. The examined lamps (mostly in an excellent state of conservation) constitute one of the most numerous collections of this ceramic class and are placed between the 5th and 7th century AD. The specimens analyzed are mostly locally produced, for which a typology based on shape and motifs is proposed, while the rest are imported (mostly from other centers of Egypt). Although conditioned by the scarcity of data available, the study of this collection therefore constitutes an important basis for the outline of the trades active in Antinoupolis in the pre-Islamic era.

Description: Despite the evident importance of the youth question in the ambit of modern society, in practice the consideration of young people as a category of consumers frequently prevails over the valorisation of their role as citizens. This survey – triggered by a synergy between the Provincial Authority and the University – focuses the attitudes and orientations of young people, both Italian and immigrants, in the Province of Florence. The objective is to bring to the fore the dynamic and more strictly civic aspect, so as to explore themes such as the shifts in values and the security, identity and participation of the new generations. The analysis effectively brings to light a widespread ambivalence, comprising both the innovative characteristics of individualism and other features that hark back to traditionally consolidated legacies. What emerges is the sense of a social mutation that is already under way, but still in transition, in which young people play a role of considerable significance.

Description: Corpi globali addresses the recent phenomenon of the proliferation of sexual services on payment, from street-walking, more visible and "disturbing", to the secluded world of top escorts, and comprising the broad range of services offered through computer technologies. The practice of sexual relations on payment has become widespread, every year involving millions of clients belonging to all social classes. This appears to be a reflection of a broader cultural model that conveys an image of sexuality divorced from affection and sentiment, which can be bought and sold like any other commodity. Which dimensions structure and supply the offer of bodies on sale? What are the reasons that induce people to purchase depersonalised and commercialised sexual services? The authors analyse the prostitution market in Italy, focusing attention on the entities that compose it, from the independent prostitutes to those who are subjected to exploitation and the criminals involved in the traffic. Reflecting on the link between demand and supply, the book offers an updated picture of the most significant changes that have taken place in the "world" of prostitution over the last decade.

Description: In modern societies two processes seem to be carried on simultaneously. On one side, the traditional shape assumed by historical knowledge seems dissolving. On the other side, another exigence has to be affirmed: the necessity to remember, to share their memories. This is a pattern linked to the limits and contradictions which characterised the relationship between present and past. Tracing the steps thanks to which the anti-fascist Resiatance have been taking place in Italy is useful for defining the strong ethic and politic relevance making it a precious tool for democratic convivence.

Description: The volume aims at offering an overview of the studies on the flâneur. It consists of three parts and an appendix. The first part defines the figure of the flâneur. In particular, the flâneur’s characteristics are first analysed with respect to a series of oxymorons, to then be declined in relation to some themes, namely: the flâneur’s slowness as a combined expression of body and mind, the moods of living one's condition, the birth of the flâneuse, the relationship between the flâneur and other figures at opposite ends of the social ladder, the love and hate between the flâneur and tourists, the constraints imposed on the flâneur in the society of control and, finally, flânerie as a lifestyle. In the second part, the focus shifts to urban places as privileged contexts of action and reflection for the flâneur. In particular, the discussed topics are the “genius loci”, the possibility of analysing places through the forms of reverie which undermine the recurrent images marked by accredited methodologies, and finally the inevitably individual in-depth study paths leading to flânerie, which require a more direct contribution than the one given by subjects who practice it. Specific attention is paid to flânerie as the inspection carried out by architects and urban planners, with the additional aim of designing the urban territory for the involvement of the entire community. The third part is dedicated to an illustration of the various ways a flânerie can be achieved. Various types of flânerie are identified and described: from the free itinerant one, to the shadowing and the observation from a fixed place. In this part, there are also some reflections regarding the relationship between flâneur, houses and objects, as well as some final considerations on the development prospects of research on the flâneur himself. Finally, in the appendix, there is a discussion on the protocol in use to create some flâneries with students from different departments and from different Italian universities, followed by some concrete examples of flânerie in compliance with the definition given in the third part.

This book proposes an approach of meditation and mixed methods research, already validated within the framework of the project «Against political communication. Rethinking participation in the age of the old and new media» (PRIN 2007). The aim is to explore the ways in which political communication is currently exploiting the media ecosystem, and the role of this new media equilibrium in the construction of political concepts and political participation on the part of the citizens.

Description: In Ruslan i Ljudmila, Puškin arranges European and Russian sources in a particular dialectic system that may be seen as illustrative of his poetics. Specifically, the poema’s dedication and its theme recall the novellas of Giambattista Casti; the narrating cat in the prologue may be connected to the celebrated fables of Tieck, Perrault, and Hoffmann; events and battle scenes in the text derive from the chronicles; and Ruslan’s deeds from lubočnaja literatura. Images of the “lascivious East”, together with other eroticized descriptive passages point to the well-known models of Moore, Byron, Goethe, and Parny, while in the weave of Ruslan i Ljudmila’s individual cantos, we find quotations from Macpherson, Ozerov, and Tasso.

Description: This article examines the work of Tadeusz Zieliński, philologist and scholar of Greek and Latin cultures, specifically his research devoted to Attic tragedy, to the stylistic features of Cicero, and to classical religion. Our primary focus is the evolution of Zieliński’s idea of Antiquity and its relationship with Modernity, to which end we also explore the significance of the so-called “Third Slavonic Renaissance”.

Description: The gender gap that traverses the planet is one of the most blatant democratic failures, and it is no longer an additional or accessory issue but one that is crucial to the wellbeing of both men and women. The strategies of intervention mapped out in international programmes (gender mainstreaming and empowerment) underscore the commitment and the responsibilities of educational processes. The aim of the book is to stimulate reflection on the role of education in the establishment of gender identities and in fostering the human rights of women in contemporary society. With a view to an interdisciplinary feminist and feminine analysis, which is essential to the development and interweaving of gender issues and points of educational interest, the question is posed as to whether a new sensitivity and a more widespread gender culture could successfully trigger daily practices of gender-oriented education.

Description: This volume of Comunicazioni dell’Istituto Papirologico «G. Vitelli» is the twelfth of the series since 1995, and is divided into three sections: 1. Editions and rieditions of texts; 2. Critical notes; 3. Chronique de Lexicographie Papyrologique de la vie matérielle. The texts of the first section belong mostly to the collection of the «Vitelli» Institute, but there are also two documents from the Egyptian Museum in Cairo and a fragment from the State Archive of Florence. The four contributions of the second section deal with topics of literary papyrology (exegesis to the classics) and documentary (reading revisions and linguistic notes). The third section, an absolute novelty, introduces the first results of an international research project concerning the lexicon of material culture documented in the papyri from the Hellenistic to the Arab era.
