    Description: Für die Landesregierung Nordrhein-Westfalen (NRW) ist die industriell genutzte Kohlenstoffabscheidung und -speicherung (engl. industrial carbon capture and storage, kurz iCCS) ein zentraler Baustein für den Übergang zu einer klimaneutralen Industrie bis 2045. Dafür braucht es aber eine breite gesellschaftliche Akzeptanz - zumal Pläne zur CO2-Abscheidung bei Kohlekraftwerken vor über zehn Jahren schon einmal an mangelnder gesellschaftlicher Akzeptanz gescheitert sind. In diesem In Brief haben die Autor*innen die Ergebnisse von zwei durchgeführten Akzeptanzstudien zu iCCS in NRW zusammengefasst und diskutieren, welche Handlungsempfehlungen sich daraus ergeben.

Die Herausforderungen hierbei sind jedoch vielfältig - auch wenn die Akzeptanz für grünen Wasserstoff sowohl in der Gesellschaft als auch bei unmittelbar beteiligten Akteursgruppen hoch ist.     Description: Für Deutschland und viele Industrieländer weltweit wird der Import von grünem Wasserstoff ein zentraler Baustein auf dem Weg zur Klimaneutralität sein. Dabei muss einerseits gewährleistet sein, dass grüner Wasserstoff auch wirklich "grün" im Sinne von klimaneutral ist. Zugleich gibt es immer mehr Forderungen, dass auch andere Nachhaltigkeitskriterien - soziale, ökonomische und ökologische - bei der Produktion und dem Transport von Wasserstoff eingehalten werden. Der politisch getriebene Aufbau einer globalen Wasserstoffwirtschaft bietet von Anfang an die Möglichkeit, diesen Sektor in Einklang mit den bestehenden politischen Zielen zu bringen. Dazu zählen beispielsweise die Pariser Klimaziele oder die Agenda 2030. Die Industrienation Deutschland, die auch in Zukunft auf Energieimporte angewiesen sein wird, kann hier als führende Industrienation als Vorreiter Einfluss nehmen. Damit kann nicht nur sichergestellt werden, dass der nach Deutschland importierte Wasserstoff "grün und nachhaltig" ist, sondern auch die Nachhaltigkeit des globalen Wasserstoffmarktes insgesamt beeinflusst werden. Diese Kurzstudie untersucht, welche bereits existierenden Politikinstrumente geeignet sind, Nachhaltigkeitskriterien für Wasserstoffimporte zu verankern und im Zusammenspiel den Weg zu einem nachhaltigen globalen Wasserstoffmarkt zu unterstützen. Dabei werden ausschließlich Nachhaltigkeitsziele und -kriterien jenseits der Klimawirkung von Wasserstoff analysiert. Es ist unbestritten, dass das zentrale Ziel der Wasserstoffwirtschaft die Reduktion von Treibhausgasen bis hin zur Klimaneutralität ist, was bereits in einer Vielzahl von Studien und Stellungnahmen diskutiert wurde. Daher wird in dieser Studie von der Klimaneutralität des grünen Wasserstoffs ausgegangen, um den Fokus auf die anderen wesentlichen Nachhaltigkeitsaspekte zu lenken, die für den Import von grünem und nachhaltigen Wasserstoff aus dem Globalen Süden von entscheidender Bedeutung sind.

    Description: Die Kurzstudie ist eine Entscheidungshilfe, um die potenzielle Einführung eines Reparierbarkeits-Index (R-Score) für Klima- und Einzelraumheizgeräte im Rahmen der Ökodesign-Richtlinie besser bewerten zu können. Das Ziel der Studie ist es, die Relevanz der Reparierbarkeit von diesen Gerätegruppen einschätzen zu können. Für die Ermittlung der Problemrelevanz wurde eine Befragung durchgeführt, sodass Stimmen von herstellenden Firmen und Verbänden, Großhandel, Installateur*innen, Handwerksbetrieben und Reparatureinrichtungen aufgenommen werden konnten. Die Autor*innen sprechen sich grundsätzlich bei beiden Produktgruppen für die Einführung eines Reparierbarkeits-Index aus und weisen darauf hin, dass für diese Produktgruppen die unabhängige Bewertung der Produktlebensdauer ein wichtiger Hebel ist, um die produktbezogenen Umweltauswirkungen zu reduzieren.

    Description: Besides identifying plants used by men, charcoal analysis may also reconstruct the history of forests, based on the study of charcoal from domestic uses. The reliability of this discipline depends on the definition of rigourous methods, from the archaeological dig to the palaeoenvironmental interpretation, which is the subject of the tint part of this work.In part two, thirteen languedocian sites dating from the end of Prehistory to Antiquity are studied following this method. In the Languedoc region, the early balance between the mediterranean oak forest and human activities leads us to review the history of deforestation. It is only in the lion Age that permanent tree clearance on plains increases, maintained during the roman period, announcing perhaps the first permanent fields. The results of this study, combined with documentary sources, constitute a first synthesis on territory changes.

    Description: Organized through the initiative of the Ministry of Culture and Communication, the symposium “Lascaux and Preservation Issues in Subterranean Environments” was held in Paris on February 26 and 27, 2009 under the chairmanship of Jean Clottes. It brought together nearly three hundred participants from seventeen countries with the goal of confronting research and interventions conducted in Lascaux Cave since 2001 with the experiences gained in other countries in the domain of preservation in subterranean environments. Twelve presentations addressed questions related to disciplines such as hydrogeology, climatology and microbiology in relation to the protection and valorization of decorated caves. The talks were followed by debates allowing the experts and all other participants to freely express themselves. This volume, which constitutes the proceedings of this symposium, is composed of the studies presented during the sessions and full transcriptions of the debates. It provides both a synthesis of the conservation activities realized at Lascaux between 2001 and 2009 and the state of research and the conditions of the cave as of 2009.

    Description: This work presents the findings of research conducted from 1988 to 1993 near the étang de Berre. On the basis of systematic surveying, soundings and the excavation of a Gallo - Roman establishment,F Trément situates the major sites of Saint-Blaise and the Fossæ Marianæ in a globally and dynamically perceived space. Using earth and life sciences (geomorphology, sedimentology, palynology…). and with recourse to texts and iconography, the archaeologist broadens his focus, to encompass the landscape in its entirety. This microregion is characterised by numerous closed depressions, which explain the high population density during the Neolithic, the Iron Age and in Antiquity, and constitute sedimentary records of the evolution of the surroundings. The author seeks to understand how the successive waterside communities adapted to this shifting and harsh environment, how they appropriated the space and set about exploiting it, more or less consciously, leaving their mark, more or less enduring.

    Description: The results of the excavation, undertaken in Nîmes from 1966 to 1992, of the sites of the Marseillaise, the Villégiales des Bénédictins, the Hesperides and the Fontaine des Bénédictins, make it possible to follow the evolution of the Bénédictins district from the neolithic to the present day. Near a pre-roman oppidum, on the slopes of mount Cavalier, this area was occupied from the end of the sixth century BC, later finding itself at the heart of the old town after construction of the atywall during Augustus reign. No longer an urban area from the second century AD onwards, it remained rural until the eighteenth century.Organised according to a framework which respected the relief, with both water supply system and drainage, this district contained a group of houses whose plans, construction details, decoration and domestic finds are studied both individually and from a socio-economic point of view.

    Description: Three Upper Palaeolithic sites have been discovered during the construction of the A5 motorway between Melun and Troyes.Marolles-sur-Seine, in the Seine-et-Mame area, is related to the other Magdaleman sites discovered in the Paris basin. The excellent preservation of the finds (silex, animal bones, heated stones) has made possible a palaeoethnological study of this horse hunting site, a type of research rarely possible in a rescue excavation Technological analysis of the lithic from Lailly (Aungnacian), in the Yonne area, and Fontvannes (Perigordian ?), in the Aube area, has revealed the production techniques for three kinds of artefacts blades, flakes and bladelets. These two sites increase the importance of the Vanne valley in the understanding of occupation of the south east of the Paris basin.Following the publication about the Middle Palaeolithic sites of the Sens area (dAf number 47), this volume renews the study of early Prehistory in this region

    Description: The history of Montbeliard began in the late 9th century with the construction of a castle on a rocky spur overlooking the Allan and the Lizaine rivers. The city developed as a result of contact with both Burgundian and Germanic culture and by the end of the 14th century had become a commercial and religious centre. The second defensive wall, built in the 15th century is a reflection of the city’s prosperity, encircling as it does the original castle, through as well as the two districts of La Halle and Saint-Martin. Excavation work undertaken in 1993-1994 prior to the construction of a shopping centre in the Velotte quarter of the Saint-Martin district has enabled archeologists to define seven build periods of architectural development covering both buildings and the urban defense system. This work has also shed light on various aspects of daily and social life as experienced by the inhabitants of this area within the city walls the bucolic character of which remained intact up to the final quarter of the 19th century.

En s’appuyant sur l’étude d’archives restées jusqu’ici inexplorées et sur des entretiens inédits, Compagnons de lutte s’attache au travail de sept critiques et historiens de l’art espagnols qui ont pris une part extraordinairement active à la vie intellectuelle et politique de leur pays dans les années 1960 : ils publient, éditent, traduisent, ils organisent des expositions, des débats, des rencontres.     Description: Domestic architecture is a means of examining the social structure of Neolithic groups in Europe from 5500 BC to 4500 BC Indeed. a house is built as much to order the social milieu as to dominate the physical environment. The Danubian house was first laid out according to strict cultural norms. This « uniformity » reflects a relatively « egalitarian » society, and a common conceptual System. However, numerous variations occurred. Apparently influenced by the type of relations between a site and its neighbours, this variability enabled individuals to react and ad on the System, but also contributed to the break-up of the Bandkeramik culture, and its replacement by new regional entities.

    Description: Archaeological research carried out in Lyon since 1971 at three major sites, the cathedral complex and the churches and graveyards of Saint-Just and Saint-Laurent-de-Choulans, has changed our understanding of the topography of the town during the early Christian period. Lyon, federal capital of the Cauls and later capital of the Burgundian kings. was from the IVth to VIIIth centuries an ecclesiastical centre of prime importance. The remains oftwo churches and of a baptistery forming an épiscopal group (one of the first to be completely excavated). the basilicas built on the tombs of saints and the graveyards, are evidence of the creation of a new Christian architecture, respecting antique traditions, and of the Christianisation of funerary practices. Thorough analysis of the archaeological evidence, confronted with archivai sources and documents, confirms the vitality and prestige of Lugdunum christianum.

    Description: From 1995 to 1997, four early medieval sites were excavated in the Fougères region as part of archaeological research work carried out prior to the construction of the A84 motarway. As the sites all date from the same period, a comprehensive research plan was implemented from the outset, with special emphasis on paleo-environmental analysis and examination of pottery finds. Examination of the three Carolingian settlement sites, as well as a ford from the same period, reveals an organised, interactive approach to environmental management of the surrounding lands (land division, ditch Systems. tracks, development of a peatcovered valley floor), which were developed and systematically exploited from the 7th to 10th century. The present volume provides a significant contribution to our understanding of early medieval rural settlements in Brittany, an area of study which has hitherto received little attention from archaeologists The research is enhanced by an analysis of bio-archaeological data from the sites, showing the impact of agro-pastoral activities on the landscape and vegetation in nearby areas.

    Description: In this work based on her doctoral thesis, Carole Fritz presents the remarkable contribution that observation with a scanning electron microscope brings to the study of engraving in Magdalenian portable art. This original and rigorous scientific approach opens up particularly promising paths of research. A corpus of sixty objects made of bone and antler, found at eight middle and upper Magdalenian sites m the area bounded by the Pyrénées, the Gironde estuary and the Dordogne river, is methodically analysed.On the basis of this analysis, backed by a previously unpublished and quite exceptional iconography, the author proposes fresh thinking on the artistic gestures of the Magdalenian period, on the operational processes corresponding to mental patterns and collective practices, on the modalities of acquisition and transmission of know-how and skills, and ultimately, on the existence of a thought-out artistic phenomenon in the societies of this epoch.

    Un quartier antique d’artisanat métallurgique à Autun (2023)

    Description: Vestiges of Gallo-Roman workshops that were in activity between the 1st and 3rd centuries AD in the city of Augustodunum were found in the course of work carried out at the Lycée militaire in Autun. The workshop buildings are described in detail and situated in their urban setting. The different crafts activities are studied closely: metalworking with copper and iron alloys, ceramics, crafts of bone. This work has enhanced our knowledge of the chain of production in metallurgical crafts in particular. Fresh data on the manufacture of common objects such as brass fibulae and bells of bronze coated iron sheet is obtained from the analysis of mould fragments, of furnace remains and of forge slag and waste. Crafts emerge as a major feature of the economy in the city of the Aedui, according to processes already identified at Bibracte. The rich documentation of this work constitutes a significant contribution to research on crafts in ancient times.

Anhand bislang nicht berücksichtigter Archivquellen rekonstruiert Felix Vogel die Entstehungs-, Funktions- und Nutzungsgeschichte des Hameau de la Reine vor dem Hintergrund der sich herausbildenden Epoche der Empfindsamkeit. Seine facettenreiche Studie der bekannten Gartenanlage behandelt die Objekthaftigkeit von Architektur, den Status ausgestellter Körper, Nützlichkeit als ästhetische Kategorie oder die künstliche Herstellung von Natürlichkeit als zentrale Themen, die weit über Versailles hinaus Bedeutung beanspruchen: Im Hameau de la Reine wird Authentizität zum ästhetischen Kalkül, dessen Spuren bis in die Gegenwart reichen.

    Description: This study gives an account of the results of the archaeological excavations of the Gallo-Roman village at Roanne (Rodumna). The research is based mainly on 22 assemblages of material dating from the 1st century B.C. to the 3rd century A.D., including glassware, iron and bronze objects, and above all an exceptional corpus of pottery. Detailed analysis of the pottery and its relationship with the rest of the material enabled a chronology to be established. Using criteria such as frequency, use, variety of pottery production, datation, origins, etc., this chronology was found to be in continuity with previously studied Gaulish horizons. A series of illustrations places the material within the context of its discovery. The results of this study lead to an outline of the economic development of Rodumna - a small, rural town, built of clay and wood, very much in keeping with Gaulish tradition. This new volume in the dAf collection continues the study of the Gaulish occupations of Roanne begun in the recently published dAf 62. These two volumes, along with the publication on Feurs (dAf 14), constitute an exceptional documentation about the antique Segusiavi region.

    Description: Between 1987 and 1995, rescue excavations were carried out on three Late Bronze Age / Early Iron Age cremation burial cemeteries in the Castres area of the Tarn region (Gourjade and Le Martinet near Castres, Le Causse at Labruguière). These vast funerary complexes, containing more than 1,200 burials, were considered to form an indivisible whole and as such were listed as sites of national importance in 1995. Study of archaeological finds from the sites, comprised of almost 5,300 vessels and some 1,300 metal objects, has led to developing a simple common typology similar to those defined for cemeteries in the western lower Languedoc region. Typological characteristics are examined in detail and presented in conjunction with distribution maps. A detailed study of funerary architecture and deposit distribution, using the same approach as the spatial analysis, is presented in the following chapter. These observations provide the basis for suggestions concerning the chronological sequencing of the burials. The resulting seriation conclusively demonstrates the presence of five groups, thus shedding light on the evolution of material culture and funerary assemblages in the Castres cemeteries over more than three centuries (from the 9th to the first half of the 6th c BCE) and indicating that significant changes took place during the Bronze Age / Iron Age transition period. The study of topographical evolution points to logical patterns of development which were concentric at Causse and Goujade and linear at Martinet. Anthropological analysis, which is based on a remarkable sample comprised of more than 1,200 bone assemblages, unique in France for this period, has provided information on selection within the cemeteries and on changes in deposits and their constituents. A chapter is also given over to animal remains which are both numerous and varied, particularly at Causse. The study demonstrates changes in both the quantity and the qua lit y of meat offerings over time and provides a pertinent view of this practice. The paleosociological analysis which follows adopts a classical approach in which ail parameters are taken into consideration. The results indicate that deposits are relatively uniform and point to a degree of social levelling within the communities. The final chapter considers the cemeteries cultural identity and their regional connections. Study of available documentation over a wide area, extending from Provence to Aquitaine, demonstrates strong links with Mediterranean groups, primarily those from the western lower Languedoc area. The studies and syntheses are based upon abundant documentary evidence which is presented in its entirety in the second and third volumes.

The trenches and material of farmers of Neolithic and protohistoric times gave way to a silt quarry, then to the plots of land in a suburbium outside of Lutetia, still present in the 9th century. A 14th century manor house, decorated with mural paintings, preceded the city’s encroachment on this area, seen in the Charles V city wall and the neighbouring faubourg, while the tile Works continued to be active for three centuries. In the 16th century the site was drastically altered by the construction of the Tuileries castle and the Jardin Neuf. Interpretation of the numerous vestiges, supported by palaeoenvironmental studies and archival documents, provides new and sometimes unexpected data on land use before urbanisation, on the social status of the inhabitants, on the fate of renowned edifices. This book tells a story. "the story of a small piece of Paris", one of the great seats of the history of France. In the heart of Paris, the Grand Louvre project led to urban excavation on an exceptional scale. This archaeofogical operation was a model of its kind, both by the nature of its findings and its state-of-the-art exploration strategies.

    Description: This work introduces the initial results of research at sites occupied by Native Americans in the Sinnamary basin (1660-220 BP), carried ont at the time of the construction of the Petit Saut dam by Electricité de France in French Guyana. A methodological approach pertaining to the tropical sylvan and riparian milieu is followed by a study of the open-air sites, and a commentary focusing on the phenomenon of terra preta and palaeolithic fires. For the first time a typological tramework and a vocabulary are proposed for reference to lithic senes and polishing-tool sites. This work also includes a study of ceramics using two complementary approaches: determination of place of manufacture based on the Chemical make-up of the pestes employed, and codification of the forms and motifs of the 22,000 objects registered. Following up on the publication devoted to the colonial period in this region (dAf 60), this volume makes a signifiant contribution to the renewal of histonographical work on the Guyana plateau.

Ce qu’elle est aujourd’hui devenue n’a plus guère à voir avec ce qu’elle a pu être : progressant vite, cette discipline rassemble autour d’elle des compétences exception­nellement nombreuses (géologiques, zoologiques, paléoanthropologiques, etc.). L’ambition de cet ouvrage est donc multiple. Interrogeant la provenance de cette discipline et l’évolution de ses rapports avec d’autres sciences, il propose tout d’abord une ­cartographie des avancées en cours. Et, pour cela, quelques-uns des meilleurs spécialistes de la discipline ont été sollicités. Mais il s’agit tout autant, d’une part, de porter un regard critique sur l’épistémologie qu’elle déploie et, d’autre part, de mener une réflexion sur les défis qu’il lui faut relever afin de se rendre pleinement visible. C’est pourquoi quatre axes de questionnement ont ici été privilégiés : le rapport au temps (et à l’histoire plus récente), l’évocation de récentes percées scientifiques, la confrontation aux autres sciences humaines, le partage du savoir au-delà des cercles ­savants. En cela cet ouvrage, à l’instar de ce qu’a finalement toujours été la préhistoire, se veut ­résolument interdisciplinaire. Aussi mobilise-t-il, en plus d’archéologues aux compétences multiples, des anthropologues, des historiens, des philosophes. Seule une telle interdisciplinarité peut nous permettre d’esquisser à petites touches les nouvelles frontières, dynamiques, mouvantes et toujours prometteuses, de la préhistoire.

L'autrice étudie la manière dont les employés de MSF et leurs -patients interagissent, et comment ces interactions contribuent à l'immense travail de guérison qui attend les victimes de guerre. Le lecteur découvre des espaces intimes qui sont habituellement fermés à l'observateur : l'hôpital MSF et les maisons des patients, des lieux riches en contacts humains, en perceptions, en émotions, en conflits et en réconciliations. Reconstruire des vies est le fruit d'une étroite collaboration entre l'autrice et Médecins sans frontières, notamment son think tank interne, le CRASH (Centre de réflexion sur l'action et les savoirs humanitaires), engagé dans une réflexion critique sur les pratiques de terrain. Ce travail, qui a entraîné un certain nombre de changements opérationnels dans la manière de traiter les patients, est un exemple de l'impact durable que peut avoir la recherche sur la -pratique humanitaire.

    Description: In 1991, construction work in the north-east neighbourhood of Marseilles was the opportunity of studying the quarter Sainte-Barbe (5th-17th century). These excavations revealed the remains of an extra muros quarter specialized in the production of pottery during the 13th century. For the first time in France, the production of urban polyvalent workshops over a hundred years could be analyzed (common unglazed ware, glazed cooking ware, painted tin-glazed ware...). The presence of a kiln of Islamic tradition as well as the types of shapes suggest a transfer of the know-how, moving-abouts of the craftsmen and of their productions, and offers a newer view upon the history of techniques and the origins of majolica in Southern France. This book presents a study about kilns with clay rods supporting the vessels around the Mediterranean basin an in the Near-East. It sheds light upon a firing technique which has disappeared in the West. An exceptional documentary source concerning ceramic techniques as well as the history of the City of Marseilles.

    Description: L’ouvrage présenté ici trouve son origine dans un séminaire de l’EHESS, animé par Enric Porqueres I Gené de 2014 à 2017. Ce séminaire a été l’occasion de mener un travail collectif aux perspectives fructueuses et heuristiques. Le point central de la réflexion s’est focalisé sur le statut de l’embryon dans le champ de l’histoire et de l’anthropologie. L’Afrique de l’Ouest, la Mélanésie, le monde Inuit, la médecine ayurvédique constituent autant de cas explorés dans le cadre de ce séminaire, souvent accompagné de spécialistes de ces différentes aires culturelles. La mise en parallèle de ces ethnographies avec les travaux sur les contextes des biotechnologies contemporaines a permis de dégager une série de récurrences qui semblent bonnes à penser. Les parallélismes entre les discours embryologiques dans une approche ontogénétique, de constitution de l’être, et ceux sur les origines de l’humanité propres à chacun des contextes analysés ont été étudiés. Deux parties structurent cet ouvrage qui comporte douze textes, mêlant approche anthropologique, philosophique, historique, sociologique et ethnographique. Une première partie porte sur la vie prénatale, d’abord mise en perspective par l’histoire des idées. Est également évoqué l’embryon tel qu’ici et ailleurs il est thématisé. On y trouve les contributions de Luc Brisson (CNRS), Christèle Barois (Universitat Wien), Stéphane Dugast (IRD/MNHN), Laurent Dousset (EHESS), Mary Picone (EHESS), Alejandro Bilbao (Université de los Lagos, Chili).     Description: Under the direction of H. Kértbel, excavation on the site of Fanum Martis. present-day Corseul, has gradually revealed a vast trading and crafts centre within the archaeological protection area of Monterfil II. Uncovering a surface area of over 5000 m2 along the major axis of the former Coriosolati capital has enabled archaeologists to discern architectural and topographical changes which took place in this quarter from 15/10 BCE to the 4th century CE. The finds, which include a high proportion of Italian potters’ marks and Lipari amphorae, attest to the significance ot the town as a marketplace for items produced throughout the Mediterranean Basin. A metrological analysis of the remains, earned out by an archaeologist trained in architecture, has served as the basis for a reconstruction of elevations governed by the Tuscan order. Although there is still much work to be done in Corseul. the excavation carried out thus far at Monterfil II has shown how the urban layout and public and private domains were established during the reign of Augustus.

    Description: Discovered in 1973, the Port Berteau wreck lies at a depth of 7 metres in the Charente river below Samtes. Excavations (1992-1997) were carried out with the dual objective of studying both the hull’s remains and its natural environment.Using the traditional techniques of ship archaeology to examine the wreck from the stem to the stern-post has enabled archaeologists to draw an ‘architectural portrait" of an early 7th century coaster. The 14.30 metre carvel built "frame-first" boat was intended for river navigation and built to carry a cargo of up to ten tonnes. Using what could be called a naval archaeology approach, researchers have analysed the nver environment to reconstruct the natural landscape of the period. The Port Berteau II coaster thus provides a reference for carvel construction history in the Ponant, reviously attested only in 15th century texts.

    Description: The construction of the dam at Petit Saut by Électricité de France in the French Guyane gave place to an important archaeological rescue operation. Carried out from 1990 to 1995, this was the largest ever programme for an overseas French department of which the history was scarcely known. This volume represents the results of these researches in the Sinnamary river basin for the last four centuries of our millenium. Based on archives, travellers tales, old maps and archaeological work, this study brings new elements to the history of this part of South America : the formation of the colony during the 17th and 18th centuries, its settlement, its economy and material culture. With the development of gold production from the 19th century, the Guyane appears to be another California. The jail at Saut Tigre was created in 1933 for Indochinese prisoners who worked on development projects in the Inini territory up until 1944. This work contains an important dictionary of place-names which constitutes a documentary source without precedent. A second volume will soon be consecrated to the Amerindian sites discovered during the same operation.

    Description: Des recueils de fables aux enquêtes de terrain en sciences humaines et sociales, les contes et les légendes d’Afrique captivent depuis longtemps de nombreux lecteurs, qu’ils soient ou non occidentaux. En revanche, les rumeurs, les ouï-dire, les anecdotes et autres commérages qui y ont cours et qui peuvent tout autant nous éclairer sur l’organisation d’une société, ses imaginaires et ses représentations, ont été très souvent relégués au second plan. Dans cette anthologie, l’anthropologue Jean-Paul Colleyn et son collaborateur malien Mingoro Sanogo ont rassemblé une cinquantaine de récits, entendus et collectés au Mali entre les années 1980 et les premières décennies du XXIe siècle. Néologisme formé par la combinaison des on-dit et des dictons, les « dit-on » sont à la fois de petits contes sur les origines et de véritables paraboles des temps modernes, mêlant fiction et récit autobiographique. En creux, ces histoires brossent ainsi un portrait aux multiples facettes de la société malienne : l’amour, la vie conjugale, la sexualité, tout comme les cultes, leurs dieux, leurs génies et leurs malédictions, émaillent le quotidien que racontent ces témoignages. Plutôt que de se concentrer sur les illustres cultures de cour africaines, connues pour leurs griots et leurs marabouts, ce livre entend réhabiliter les modes moins prestigieux de l’oralité, tout en montrant que le bouche-à-oreille demeure encore aujourd’hui une source d’information tout aussi instructive que savoureuse.

    Description: Archaeological prospection by test trenches covering about fort Y hectares of a future gravel pit and archaeological excavations of about 15 hectares, conducted between 1989 and 1994, allowed a study of human occupation, settlement history and landscape change from the Neolithic to the Roman times. The study area covers an exceptionally large surface situated in the Holocene river plain of the Moselle valley near Crévéchamps, Meurthe-et-Moselle. With about 7000 recorded archaeological features, Marie-Pierre Koenig and her team followed a rigorous methodology to determine how, overt wo millennia, humans settled and lived in a landscape and settlement micro-region impacted by the shifting course of the Moselle river. The scientific approach comprises the grouping of the archaeological features according to their function, a typological analysis of them and the study of their setting in the former landscape, reconstructed by means of different environmental analyses. Due to a remarkable study of the Bronze and Iron pottery, supported by comparisons with numerous sites of Northwestern Europe, the authors suggest an evolutionary scheme of the settlement and its history. This approach is already considered to be a major reference for settlement archaeology. The first land clearing began during Neolithic times. During the following Bronze and Iron Age, settlement density increased. Palisades, roads and trenches followed the natural delimitations formed by the ancient river channels, while agricultural activities on the gravel domes in the alluvial river plain were moved cyclically. Later, the Gallo-Roman population drained and parcelized the land. Farms continued to exist, with Gallic traditions persisted, but human activities became more diverse with the opening of a large clay-pit -until a flood in the 2nd century AD led the occupants to abandon this excessively humid zone. The scientific results are enriched by a meticulous iconography and ample documentation: pottery catalogue, building descriptions, results of 14C datings, an index of the features, general maps and an index locorum. Chapter summaries given in English and German provide international readers with quick access to the main results.

J. and structures and graves attesting occupation from the 8th to the 9th century In parallel, the progression of the filling-in of the estuary was retraced by means of multi­disciplinary analysis of deep sondages These studies make a fundamental contribution to the history of the settlement and the countryside in the Rochefort hinterland.

The via Domitia and the via Augusta, two of the most famous roman roads, are treated successively, each section being preceeded by explanatory maps and notices for each of the road stations traversed. The third part examins the structure of these roads and their impact on the organisation of the landscape and discusses the organisation and presentation of conserved sections. A bibliography, general and thematic, as well as a listing comprising the data concerning road itineries concludes this volume, which reviews recent research, an essential work of reference.

    Description: This volume is one of the first scientific publications devoted to the archaeological research covering Bronze Age occupation (20th-14th centuries BC) carried out during the construction of the northern ring road around the city of Lyon. It has been possible interpret the vestiges discovered as belonging to rural centresorclusters of dwellings established at a site on the Bank of the valley. The sets of objects studied, primarily ceramics, have come to constitute a valuable reference resource for the Lyon region. They testify to a composite cultural profile for the early Bronze Age. combining northern and southern characteristics, while the Bell Beaker cultural background subsists. During the late Bronze I period, however. the southern features give way to influences of the Jura and Burgundian regions and those derived from the north-western façade of the Alps. Palaeo-environmental studies conducted in conjunction with the archaeological work provide the basis for an investigation of the landscape during the Bronze Age and the foundation of the populations’ subsistence economy, in keeping with the basic outlines established for the temperate regions of Western Europe.

Cet ouvrage présente un aspect méconnu de ses activités : entre 1927 et 1933, Benjamin a enregistré une centaine d’interventions au microphone sur les antennes de Berlin et Francfort et s’est efforcé de dépasser les formes journalistiques de pur divertissement. À travers ses chroniques littéraires ou ses contes radiophoniques pour enfants, le philosophe berlinois a souhaité repenser le matériau sonore diffusé sur les ondes. Ce livre original propose d’aller à la rencontre de Walter Benjamin par le prisme de sa voix. Les recherches de Philippe Baudouin à l’origine du présent ouvrage tendent à faire entendre l’écho du philosophe, en proposant de redécouvrir l’intérêt à la fois théorique et pratique dont il témoigna pour la radio. L’ouvrage comprend également des annexes sonores, avec d’une part les deux seuls témoignages sonores du philosophe connus à ce jour, extraits de la pièce radiophonique pour enfants Chahut autour de Kasperl, diffusée à la radio de Cologne le 9 septembre 1932, et d’autre part une interview de Stéphane Hessel réalisée par Philippe Baudouin pour France Culture, dans laquelle ce premier témoigne reconnaître la voix de Benjamin dans le personnage de Kasperl. Ce livre est une réédition augmentée du livre de Philippe Baudouin paru en 2009 aux Éditions de la Maison des sciences de l’homme. Il a reçu le prix Inathèque décerné par l’Institut national de l’audioviosuel.

    Description: Die verheerenden Mengen an Abfall am Ende des Lebenszyklus von Produkten zu bewältigen, gilt als eine der größten Herausforderungen auf dem Weg zu einer Circular Economy. Die negativen Folgen, die sich aus dem Missmanagement von Kunststoffabfällen aufgrund fehlender oder nicht funktionierender Abfallwirtschaftsstrukturen in weiten Teilen der Erde ergeben, werden zunehmend deutlich. Bei der Circular Economy als elementarer Lösungsansatz sollen Stoffströme geschlossen und Produktlebenszyklen verlängert werden. Ein Instrument zur Annäherung an dieses Modell ist der Handel mit sogenannten Plastic Credits - ein Mittel, um den Ausbau regionaler Infrastrukturen für die Sammlung und das Recycling von Kunststoffabfällen zu finanzieren. Die Abnehmer von Plastic Credits sind die treibende Kraft hinter dem Mechanismus. Es ist weiterführende Forschung notwendig, insbesondere in Bezug auf die Frage, wie Unternehmen das Instrument der Plastic Credits nutzen und in ihre Gesamtstrategie integrieren. Diese Masterarbeit widmet sich der dabei vorgelagerten Frage: Existieren bestimmte Profile bei Unternehmen, die in Plastic Credits investieren, und lassen sich hierbei spezifische Cluster bilden? Im Rahmen der Beantwortung dieser Frage wurden Expert*innen-Interviews mit Hilfe der qualitativen Inhaltsanalyse nach Mayring ausgewertet. Dabei haben sich drei konkrete Unterfragen ergeben, die sich auf die Motivation, Branchenzugehörigkeit und räumliche Verortung der Abnehmer beziehen. Die Ergebnisse zeigen, dass sich die Abnehmer von Plastic Credits bereits umfangreich mit der Kunststoffabfallproblematik und der damit verbundenen Auswirkung auf die Umwelt beschäftigen. Offen bleibt, inwiefern Maßnahmen zur Vermeidung von neuartigem Kunststoff, der Verbesserung der Recyclingfähigkeit der Produkte oder der Einsatz von Rezyklaten in der Herstellung dem Weg der Kompensation vorangestellt werden. In Bezug auf die Branchenzugehörigkeit legen die Ergebnisse nahe, dass vorrangig Unternehmen, die mit einem erschwerten Rezyklate-Einsatz konfrontiert sind, in Plastic Credits investieren. Welche Auswirkungen Maßnahmen wie die Entbürokratisierung der Zulassungsverfahren für neue Recyclingprozesse oder verpflichtende Anteile an recycelten Materialien in bestimmten Produkten auf die Investition in Plastic Credits haben, wird sich in Zukunft zeigen. Die Analyse der räumlichen Verortung gab Aufschluss darüber, dass zurzeit im Wesentlichen Unternehmen aus dem globalen Norden in Plastic Credits investieren - jedoch verbunden mit dem Ziel, eine Finanzierung aus den Projektländern heraus zu intensivieren.

    Description: Junge Menschen sehen sich durch die Klimakrise einer Einschränkung ihrer Entfaltungs- und Lebensmöglichkeiten gegenübergestellt. Diese explorative Studie verdeutlicht, wie sowohl die Wahrnehmung der Klimakrise, die Verantwortungsattribution, die wahrgenommene Handlungswirksamkeit und die einschlägigen Sozialisationserfahrungen milieuspezifisch strukturiert sind. Informiert durch das Projekt Schools4Future wurden vier Leitfadeninterviews mit Schüler*innen zur Wahrnehmung und Deutung der Klimakrise geführt. Im dreischrittigen Kodierprozess der Grounded Theory konnten Muster der Betroffenheit, der Verantwortungsattribution und der Handlungsstrategien von vier jugendlichen Klimaaktivist*innen aus akademischen und prekären Herkunftsmilieus rekonstruiert werden. Während die sozial bevorteilten Jugendlichen sich als Betroffene und unter dem Fehlverhalten vorangehender Generationen leidende Gruppe wahrnehmen, sehen die sozial benachteiligten Jugendlichen die Klimakrise als ein systemisches Versagen neben anderen. Der medial so vertraute Aktivismus geht von dem gehobenen Milieu aus und verbindet sich mit Konsum als distinktive Praxis des klimafreundlichen Handelns. Im prekären Milieu zeigen sich andere Formen des stillen, konkreten und intrinsisch motivierten Engagements sowie das (schulische) Engagement als Investition in den individuellen, sozialen Aufstieg. Konsistenter Weise sehen sich die akademischen Jugendlichen als bevorteilt in der Bearbeitung der Klimakrise, dethematisieren aber, was die jungen Menschen aus dem sozial schwachen Milieu deutlich diagnostizieren: Der ökologische Fußabdruck ihres Konsums ist ungleich höher als der der benachteiligten Jugendlichen.

    Description: Seit Veröffentlichung der vom Landesverband Erneuerbare Energien NRW beauftragten und durch das Wuppertal Institut durchgeführten Studie "Bewertung der Vor- und Nachteile von Wasserstoffimporten im Vergleich zur heimischen Erzeugung" Ende 2020 haben sich die Rahmenbedingungen für den Wasserstoffhochlauf in Deutschland zum Teil deutlich geändert. Darüber hinaus ist zwischenzeitlich eine Reihe von Klimaschutz- und Transformationsstudien erschienen, mit teilweise neuen und differenzierten Einschätzungen zu Wasserstoff-Kosten und -Entwicklungspfaden. Dazu gehören insbesondere die als "Big Five" der Klimaneutralitätsszenarien bezeichneten Publikationen sowie weitere, spezifische H2-Analysen. Vor diesem Hintergrund sind die Ziele der vorliegenden Studie: 1. Eine Aktualisierung der Metaanalyse der oben genannten Wasserstoff-Studie aus dem Jahr 2020 - bezogen auf Kosten- und Mengen-Bandbreiten für die zukünftige Produktion und Bereitstellung von grünem und, soweit möglich, blauem Wasserstoff für Deutschland. 2. Eine kritische Einordnung der absehbaren Wasserstoff-Nachfrage in Deutschland, welche von der Wahl der Nutzungssektoren abhängt. 3. Eine kritische Diskussion und Einordnung der künftigen Rolle von blauem Wasserstoff, also der Frage, ob und inwiefern er eine sinnvolle Übergangslösung zu grünem Wasserstoff darstellen könnte.

Die Studie beschreibt die Ansatzpunkte für die Digitalisierung entlang der Wertschöpfungskette. Dazu zählen die Optimierung des Ressourceneinsatzes in der Landwirtschaft, etwa mithilfe von Smart Farming, die Unterstützung von Verbraucher*innen durch digitale Tools und Assistenzsysteme - beispielsweise mit Apps als Einkaufshilfe.     Description: Die Herstellung petrochemischer Grundstoffe ist sowohl energetisch als auch stofflich in Deutschland für rund 20 % der Nachfrage nach Mineralölprodukten verantwortlich. Das Gros fließt in die Produktion von Olefinen und Aromaten, welche als sogenannte Plattformchemikalien wiederum die Ausgangsbasis für die Herstellung von Polymeren und Kunststoffen darstellen. Letztgenannte sind von größter Relevanz für die Branche: Von den knapp 60 Milliarden Euro Umsatz, welche die deutsche petrochemische Industrie im Jahr 2021 generierte, entfiel gut die Hälfte auf das Marktsegment der Polymere. Daraus resultieren jedoch über die gesamte Wertschöpfungskette CO2-Emissionen von rund 50 Millionen Tonnen jährlich. Eine Transformation der heutigen auf fossilen Rohstoffen basierenden petrochemischen Industrie hin zu einem auf erneuerbaren Rohstoffen basierenden zirkulären System kann somit einen bedeutenden Beitrag zu einer primärenergetisch effizienten und klimaneutralen Wirtschaftsweise leisten. Das vom Wuppertal Institut geleitete Forschungsprojekt GreenFeed exploriert gemeinsam mit den Verbundpartnern Karlsruher Institut für Technologie und Deutsches Biomasseforschungszentrum mögliche Pfade hin zu einem solchen System. Vor diesem Hintergrund wird im vorliegenden Papier zunächst das heutige System der ökonomischen und stofflichen Synergiebeziehungen zwischen den Raffinerien und der chemischen Industrie analysiert. Im geografischen Fokus stehen dabei Deutschland und der ARRRA-Raum als bedeutendste Chemie-Region innerhalb Europas sowie inhaltlich der sehr relevante Teilbereich der Polymer-Produktion. Die Kerninhalte des Papiers sind: 1) Charakterisierung des petrochemischen Metabolismus in Deutschland, einschließlich Produktions-, Energie-, Feedstock- und Kohlenstoffbilanz sowie Infrastruktur- und Transport-Verflechtungen innerhalb dieses Systems und 2) regionale Vertiefungen in Form von insgesamt acht Steckbriefen über alle petrochemischen Kunststoff-Regionen in Deutschland sowie des Antwerpener und Rotterdamer Clusters.

    Description: Die chemische Industrie ist auch für die Antwerpen-Rotterdam-Rhein-Ruhr-Region (engl. Antwerp-Rotterdam-Rhine-Ruhr-Area, kurz ARRRA) von besonderer Bedeutung, die mehrere große petrochemische Cluster in Deutschland, den Niederlanden und Belgien mit komplex vernetzten Produktionsketten beherbergt. Bei der Umsetzung der Klimaziele stehen diese Regionen vor bedeutenden Veränderungen und haben zugleich die Chance, sich als Vorreiter der Industrietransformation zu positionieren. Dafür müssen erfolgreiche Strategien für den Wandel identifiziert und angewendet werden. In den letzten Jahren wurden zahlreiche Szenarioanalysen und Roadmaps veröffentlicht, in denen Entwicklungspfade für die chemische Industrie im Einklang mit nationalen und internationalen Klimazielen aufgezeigt werden. Diese können eine Darstellung von technologischen Optionen, wichtigen Voraussetzungen, besonderen Herausforderungen sowie bedeutsamen Chancen und zeitlichen Entwicklungen beinhalten. Die vorliegende Metaanalyse fasst die Ergebnisse einige der aktuellsten Arbeiten auf nationaler, europäischer und globaler Ebene zusammen und vergleicht diese kritisch miteinander. Da das Kernziel der vorliegenden Analyse darin besteht, die verschiedenen strategischen Optionen und Entwicklungspfade für Deutschland und die ARRRA zu untersuchen, liegt der Schwerpunkt der Arbeit auf Publikationen mit Fokus Deutschland, den Niederlanden und Belgien. Dabei wird sowohl ein quantitativer als auch ein qualitativer Ansatz verfolgt, der die Ressourcen- und Produktionsmengen, die relative Bedeutung verschiedener Emissionsminderungsstrategien sowie auch politische Empfehlungen und andere wichtige Rahmenbedingungen berücksichtigt. Der Fokus liegt dabei auf Strategien für den Einsatz alternativer nicht-fossiler Feedstocks und die Minderung damit verbundener Emissionen.

    Description: Die Kaskadennutzung von hochwertigen Materialien wie hochlegierten Metallen, also die Weiternutzung von Werkstoffen mittels Re-engineering beziehungsweise Reuse oder Re-manufacturing von Bauteilen oder Materialien, birgt in Kombination mit integrierten innovativen Produkt-Dienstleistungsmodellen ein hohes Potenzial für Ressourcenschonung und Klimaschutz. Denn über diesen Ansatz können hochwertige Materialien, die meist energieintensive Fertigungsverfahren unterlaufen, länger in der Nutzung gehalten werden. So kann der Zeitpunkt des Recyclings verzögert werden, welches insbesondere bei hochwertigen Materialien meist zu Qualitätsverlusten führt. Auf diese Weise kann der Bedarf an der Primärproduktion und entsprechend die ökologischen Wirkungen verringert werden. Gerade durch die regional hohe Dichte an produzierendem Gewerbe im metallbe- und -verarbeitenden Bereich bietet sich das Bergische Städtedreieck an für ein regional integriertes Ressourcenmanagement an. Das Projekt RegRess trägt mit dazu bei, die Hürden zur Etablierung eines entsprechenden Ressourcenmanagements mit dem Fokus auf das Bergische Städtedreieck zu senken, um so ökonomische und ökologische Potenziale für die regionale Wirtschaft und Profilbildung der Unternehmen, insbesondere KMU, zu heben. Dieser Bericht dokumentiert die Ergebnisse einer Stakeholder-/Netzwerkanalyse von der regionalen bis zur nationalen Ebene als Basis für Kooperationen. Die Analyse identifiziert mittels Desktoprecherche 110 Netzwerke, von denen ca. 25 unmittelbar im Bergischen Städtedreieck tätig sind bzw. die Region abdecken. Darüber hinaus wird eine Methodik und deren Anwendung anhand von theoretischen Beispielen vorgestellt, um den ökologisch sinnvollen Einsatz von Kaskadennutzung aufzuzeigen und zu reflektieren. Die Methodik wurde auf die Beispiele der Kaskadennutzung ausgedienter Spiralbohrer sowie Kochtöpfe angewendet, wobei beide Beispiele tendenziell ökologische Einsparpotentiale aufweisen. Unter Vorbehalt einer detaillierteren Lebenszyklusanalyse wurden bei den Spiralbohrern bei einmaliger Kaskadierung Einsparungen in der Größenordnung von maximal 75 % beim Material Footprint und 60 % beim Carbon Footprint abgeschätzt. Aufgrund der aufwändigeren Form und höheren Reinigungsaufwänden liegen die Einsparungen beim Kochtopf geringer und wurden beim Material Footprint auf eine Größenordnung von maximal 26 % und beim Carbon Footprint von 25% geschätzt.

    Description: Im September 2023 sind zwei wenig ermutigende Untersuchungen veröffentlicht worden: Das Klimasekretariat der Vereinten Nationen macht in seinem Report zur ersten Globalen Bestandsaufnahme (Global Stocktake) deutlich, dass die bisher zugesagten nationalen Klimaschutzbeiträge bei weitem nicht genügen, um die Pariser Klimaschutzziele zu erreichen. Auch das Update zur Einhaltung der planetaren Grenzen fällt ernüchternd aus: In sechs von neun Bereichen sind die Grenzen teils weit überschritten - auch in Bezug auf den Klimawandel. Allerdings reichen die ergriffenen Klimaschutzmaßnahmen nicht aus, um die gesteckten Ziele zu erreichen. Suffizienzstrategien und -politik können den Wandel bringen - bei Konsum, Gebäuden, Verkehr, Kreislaufwirtschaft und Energie, wie der Zukunftsimpuls zeigt.

    Description: Die Schaffung von bezahlbarem und sozial gerechtem Wohnraum stellt eine zentrale Herausforderung der nachhaltigen Stadtentwicklung dar. Zur Begegnung dieser Herausforderungen spielen innovative Wohnformen wie gemeinschaftliche Wohnprojekte eine bedeutende Rolle, da sie vielfältige soziale Nachhaltigkeitsaspekte aufweisen und dadurch zu einer nachhaltigen Stadtentwicklung beitragen können. In diesem Kontext bleibt die Frage offen, ob die Gemeinschaften in Wohnprojekten nach ihrer Gründung beständig bleiben. Das Ziel der Arbeit war die Beantwortung der folgenden Forschungsfrage: "Wie können gemeinschaftliche Wohnprojekte dauerhaft in Bezug auf ihre Weiterentwicklung bestehen bleiben und somit langfristig eine nachhaltige Stadtentwicklung unterstützen?" Zur Beantwortung der Forschungsfrage wurde eine qualitative Studie in Form von narrativen Interviews mit Bewohner:innen gemeinschaftlicher Wohnprojekte durchgeführt. Die Ergebnisse aus Literatur und Praxis konnten acht besonders relevante Faktoren für die Beständigkeit von gemeinschaftlichen Wohnprojekten identifizieren: Soziale Durchmischung, Organisationsstruktur, Gemeinschaftspflege, Vertrauen, Soziales Netzwerk, Kommunikationskultur, gelebte Nachhaltigkeit, Flexibilität und Anpassungsfähigkeit. Diese Faktoren ermöglichen eine nachhaltige und anpassungsfähige Gemeinschaft, welche zu einer nachhaltigen Stadtentwicklung beitragen kann. Dafür sollten gemeinschaftliche Wohnprojekte ihre vorhandenen Potenziale weiterhin ausbauen.

    Description: Der Klimawandel wird zunehmend eine der größten Gesundheitsbedrohungen des 21. Jahrhunderts. Die Weltgesundheitsorganisation (WHO) erwartet, dass durch die Folgen des Klimawandels zwischen den Jahren 2030 und 2050 rund 250.000 zusätzliche Todesfälle pro Jahr durch Mangelernährung, Malaria, Durchfallerkrankungen und Hitzestress verursacht werden. Allein für die direkten Gesundheitsschäden - also ohne beispielsweise indirekte Schäden, die in Sektoren wie der Landwirtschaft entstehen - werden bis 2030 Zusatzkosten von jährlich zwei bis vier Milliarden US-Dollar erwartet. Besonders betroffen sind Menschen in Gegenden mit einer schlechten Gesundheitsversorgung und Infrastruktur. Aber auch Deutschland ist von den Folgen des Klimawandels betroffen – heute und künftig. Aktuell liegt in der Forschung noch ein Fokus darauf, zu untersuchen, in welcher Art und Weise die Menschen dem Klimawandel ausgesetzt sind (Expositionswege) und wie sich diese Gesundheitseffekte messen lassen (etwa der Unterschied der Gesundheitsauswirkungen einer globalen Durchschnittserwärmung von 1,5 oder 2 Grad Celsius). Auch wird das klimawandelbedingte Gesundheitsrisiko verschiedener Bevölkerungsgruppen von zahlreichen nationalen und internationalen Akteuren erforscht. Einer der Forschungsschwerpunkte bildet dabei die Untersuchung unterschiedlicher Anfälligkeiten für klimabedingte Gesundheitsrisiken verschiedener Gruppen (bspw. ältere Menschen, Vorerkrankte, Einkommensschwache, Kinder). Andere Studien widmen sich dem Risiko, dem Menschen in ausgewählten geografischen Regionen (etwa Brasilien) oder Angehörige bestimmter Völker (bspw. Gesellschaften in der Arktis) ausgesetzt sind. Ein noch junges Forschungsfeld umfasst Untersuchungen zur Klimaangst (climate anxiety). Gemeinsam mit der gesetzlichen Krankenkasse BARMER hat das Wuppertal Institut sich zum Ziel gesetzt, innerhalb des Projekts "BARMER Explorationsstudie Klimawandel und Gesundheit" den aktuellen Forschungsstand zu den Auswirkungen des Klimawandels auf die Gesundheit aufzubereiten. Die Aufarbeitung erfolgt über vier Arbeitspakete (Module) hinweg. Der vorliegende Projektbericht fasst die zentralen Projektergebnisse zusammen.

    Description: Aufgrund der Wechselwirkungen mit sozialen, ökonomischen und ökologischen Zielen ist die Kreislaufwirtschaft möglicherweise ein Handlungsbereich mit systemischer Schubkraft für die integrierte Nachhaltigkeitsentwicklung von NRW. Sie ist deswegen auch für die Umsetzung der NRW-Nachhaltigkeitsstrategie, die 2016 zum ersten Mal aufgelegt und 2020 aktualisiert wurde, von besonderem Interesse. Aus diesem Grund hat sich das Wuppertal Institut im Rahmen des Forschungsprojekts "Nachhaltigkeitsstrategie NRW - Vertiefungsanalysen zur Umsetzung aus wissenschaftlicher Sicht" in einem Forschungsmodul mit der Umsetzung der Kreislaufwirtschaft im Kontext der Gesamtwirtschaft von NRW beschäftigt und hier insbesondere die Auswirkungen des europäischen, politischen Rahmens auf die Aktivitäten in NRW in den Blick genommen. Mit anderen Worten, das nachfolgende Arbeitspapier nimmt den European Green Deal und seine Bedeutung für NRW in den Blick und fragt: Welche Herausforderungen für NRW lassen sich aus dem Green Deal ablesen, wie und in welchen Sektoren kann/soll NRW eine Transformation zur Kreislaufwirtschaft einleiten und welche Bedingungen müssen dabei beachtet werden? Methodisch basiert diese Auswertung auf der Analyse relevanter Primärdokumente sowie der Sekundärliteratur zur Umsetzung der Kreislaufwirtschaft im politischen Mehrebenensystem. Dabei soll das Papier kein industriepolitisches Innovationsprogramm entwerfen, sondern eine Handreichung zur weiteren Diskussion von potenziellen Maßnahmen und Politikvorschlägen im Hinblick auf die zu entwickelnde Kreislaufwirtschaftsstrategie darstellen.

    Description: Um die Treibhausgasneutralität bis 2045 zu erreichen, wird unter anderem erforderlich sein, dass die Industrie klimaneutrale Produktionsweisen entwickelt und umsetzt. Damit einher gehen gesellschaftliche Aushandlungsprozesse darüber, welche neuen Technologien eingesetzt werden und welche Auswirkungen vor Ort akzeptiert werden. Das Ausmaß an Akzeptanz gegenüber Technologien oder Infrastrukturen beeinflusst neben anderen Faktoren die spezifische Ausgestaltung der Transformation. Mangelnde Akzeptanz kann die Entwicklung von Transformationspfaden verlangsamen oder gar verhindern, und zu Protesten, beispielsweise von lokalen Initiativen oder von etablierten Klimaschutz- und Umweltverbänden, führen. Dieses Wuppertal Paper stellt die Frage in den Fokus, welchen Einfluss Protestbewegungen auf öffentliche Akzeptanz haben bzw. haben könnten. Grundlage dafür sind empirische Ergebnisse aus dem Projekt Protanz.NRW zu Protesten und Akzeptanz im Kontext der Industrietransformation in NRW. Darauf aufbauend wird ein Protest-Akzeptanz-Modell entwickelt und es werden Hypothesen abgeleitet, wie unterschiedliche Protestgruppen die öffentliche Akzeptanz von Technologien für die Industrietransformation in NRW beeinflussen können. Abschließend werden Handlungsempfehlungen für Politik und Industrie abgeleitet sowie Forschungsbedarfe aufgezeigt.

Ziel dieses Forschungsmoduls ist es, die bisherige Umsetzung dieses Konzepts im Rahmen der Nachhaltigkeitsstrategie NRW zu analysieren und durch geeignete Impulse zu begleiten. Durch die Entwicklung eines Leitbilds für eine nachhaltige Circular Economy und zu seiner Messung geeigneter Indikatoren soll das noch an vielen Stellen unscharfe Konzept präzisiert und insbesondere an die spezifischen Ausgangsbedingungen und Herausforderungen von Nordrhein-Westfalen angepasst werden. Dazu sollen Bausteine für ein mittel- und langfristiges Leitbild (2030) entworfen werden, das einen konsistenten Entwicklungspfad für diesen komplexen Transformationsprozess beschreiben soll.     Description: In Deutschland werden jährlich über sieben Millionen gebrauchte Matratzen entsorgt, die überwiegend verbrannt und nur zu einem Bruchteil recycelt werden. Dieser lineare Ansatz belastet die Ressourcen, erhöht die Emissionen und birgt Umweltrisiken. Um diesen Herausforderungen zu begegnen, kann die erweiterte Herstellerverantwortung (Extended Producer Responsibility, EPR) als Instrument zur Umsetzung einer Kreislaufwirtschaft dienen. In dieser Masterarbeit wird daher untersucht, wie ein EPR-System für Matratzen in Deutschland gestaltet sein sollte, um Kreisläufe effizient zu schließen. Gleichzeitig zielt diese Thesis darauf ab, die damit verbundenen Anforderungen und Herausforderungen bei der Umsetzung eines solchen Systems zu identifizieren. Zur Beantwortung der Forschungsfragen wurden mithilfe von Expert*innen-Interviews und einer umfassenden Literaturrecherche drei EPR-Modelle entwickelt und anhand von ausgewählten Kriterien bewertet. Die Ergebnisse der Bewertung ergaben, dass ein Modell präferiert werden sollte, in dem eine sogenannte Producer Responsibility Organisation (PRO) gebündelt die Verantwortung der Hersteller übernimmt. Ein solches System würde unter anderem eine angemessene Kontrolle ermöglichen und Anreize für Forschung und Entwicklung im Bereich der Recyclingtechnologien und des zirkulären Designs der Matratzen schaffen. Obwohl die Datenlage über Altmatratzen und deren Verwertung in Deutschland derzeit noch begrenzt sind und die hier präsentierten Ergebnisse von der gewählten Methodik abhängen, dient diese Masterarbeit als erste Grundlage für die weitere Entwicklung eines EPR-Systems für Matratzen in Deutschland.

    Description: Mit verschiedenen Wohnbauoffensiven versuchen viele Kommunen dem vorherrschenden Wohnraummangel entgegenzuwirken. Der Neubau von Häusern nimmt viel Fläche in Anspruch und verbraucht viele Ressourcen. Dabei lässt sich ein Großteil des Wohnraumbedarfs durch bestehende Wohngebäude decken, wenn sich Menschen an biografischen Wendepunkten, wie etwa Auszug der Kinder, für kleinere Wohnflächen und alternative Wohnkonzepte entscheiden würden. Das Projekt OptiWohn ging darum der Frage nach, wie eine optimierte Nutzung der Wohnfläche proaktiv gefördert werden kann. Herzstück bildet die Entwicklung und Gründung von kommunalen Wohnraumagenturen. Sie identifizieren Wohnraumbedarfe im Quartier, bieten Beratung für Wohnungssuchende an, vermitteln alternative Wohnungen oder initiieren Angebote zum Wohnungstausch. Neben dem Beratungs- und Förderangebot zur Optimierung der Wohnflächennutzung in den Städten Köln, Göttingen und Tübingen wurden die Ergebnisse in kommunale Handlungsempfehlungen übertragen, die neben Städten und Kommunen auch weitere Akteure ansprechen sollen. Darüber hinaus entwarfen die Wissenschaftlerinnen und Wissenschaftler ein bundesweites Förderprogramm für flächeneffizientes Wohnen.

Considered at different times to be places of refuge or worship, they have been attribued to periods ranging from pre-history to the French Revolu­tion. The present study, first written as a doctoral thesis, examines94 souterrains in the Limousin region and analyses their geographical and historical significance. Research has included excavation of the Bois-du-Mont souterrain at Bessines-sur-Gartempe in the Haute-Vienne depart­ment. The result of the study proves that these underground chambers are related to rural settlement during IXth to XIIIth centuries. Archaeology provides firm evidence for when these structures were tunnelled, occupied and abandoned. The disciplined methodological approach of this work is exemplary in a field where scientific analysis has so far been vir­tually non-existent.

    Description: Situated in the North of France, Bettencourt-Saint- Ouen is an open-air Middle Palaeolithic site, most probably used as a hunters’ stopping place. Five successive phases of occupation have been excavated, covering a period of 40.000 years Study of the site has revealed fondamental data lot our understanding of human occupation, as well as important informations on environmental changes to the site during the final glacial period (from the Eemian Interglacial to the lower Weichselian Pleniglacial). Distribution of finds at Bettencourt, coupled with the technology and typology of the site’s lithic industries, point to a continuity in systems of production and cultural traditions from 112,000 to 68,000 BP.

    Description: Relay-point on a roman road, the oppidum of Ambrussum is a major site concerning conditions and aspects of the romanisation in the region of Nîmes. Two houses with internal courtyards were already known and dated from the first century AD and form an insula of secteur I. Research conducted from 1976 to 1980 in secteur IV revealed a house of the same type with its dependancies. Following an analysis based on the conditions of implantation, occupation and abandonment, their architecture and distribution of the finds, these constructions appear to be an original expression of gallo-roman habitations. Situated in their local and regional contexts, they reflect the process of urbanisation and social differenciation, and of the village type exploitation existence.

    Description: L’annonce du décès de Serge Moscovici, le 15 novembre 2014, a suscité dans la communauté scientifique, les milieux politiques et les médias une émotion qui s’est traduite par nombre de témoignages célébrant son œuvre multiple, son engagement social ou évoquant l’histoire vécue et la personnalité qui les ont étayés. Ces témoignages ont été épars et jusqu’à présent aucune vision synthétique n’a été offerte pour cerner la richesse des apports d’une pensée dont l’empan a couvert tous les champs des sciences humaines et sociales, ouvrant des perspectives innovantes pour la recherche. Pour honorer cette figure majeure des sciences humaines et sociales, la Fondation Maison des Sciences de l’Homme a organisé, à l’initiative des fils de Serge Moscovici, un colloque international en 2017 à Paris qui a réuni des spécialistes internationaux des divers domaines auxquels cet auteur a dévolu son activité (psychologie sociale, écologie politique, sciences humaines et sociales). Le présent livre constitue une trace et un prolongement de cette initiative. Il comprend vingt textes de trente auteurs, issus de treize pays différents, influencés, marqués et inspirés par son œuvre singulière. Nous avons ajouté, en fin d’ouvrage, la reproduction d’un texte peu connu, rare et unique, l’exposé de soutenance de Serge Moscovici en 1961, ainsi que l’hommage appuyé qui lui a été rendu peu après son décès par le comité de direction du réseau international (REMOSCO) qu’il a créé, peu avant sa disparition, à la Fondation Maison des sciences de l’homme à Paris.

    Description: La publication en 2013 d'une version reconstruite du texte de Kracauer Die totalitäre Propaganda (1937-1938) a renouvelé la perception que l’on pouvait avoir de cette dimension de son œuvre et de son apport à une « théorie critique de la propagande ». La réflexion sur la propagande s’inscrit dans le contexte plus vaste de l’élaboration par les exilés allemands, au tournant des années 1930-1940, d’une grille de lecture du national-socialisme, vu comme une pathologie de la modernité, ainsi que dans celui des grands projets de recherches américains sur la propagande nazie (auxquels Adorno et Kracauer ont été associés). Au sein de la nébuleuse de la « Théorie critique » Kracauer exprime, comme Benjamin, un point de vue à certains égards dissonant. À rebours d’une approche qui insiste surtout sur la continuité entre capitalisme et nazisme, il se montre particulièrement sensible à la séduction esthétique du fascisme, et à sa mise en scène d’une réalité de substitution, qui est selon lui l’expression d’une fuite en avant nihiliste : ses analyses concrètes ne portent pas tant sur les contenus du message que sur le langage même de la propagande, et la vision de la société et de l’histoire qu’elle véhicule, dans sa forme même. Le débat complexe qui se développe à cette époque entre Adorno, Benjamin et Kracauer met notamment en œuvre les catégories de « fétichisme » (Adorno), de « fantasmagorie » et d’« esthétisation du politique » (Benjamin), d’« apparence » et de « pseudo-réalité » (Kracauer). Il présente en premier lieu un intérêt historique, en tant que l’analyse du nazisme constitue pour le projet d’une théorie critique une mise à l’épreuve, qui suscite de vifs débats internes et aboutit chez Adorno et Horkheimer, dans la Dialectique de la raison (1944-1947), à une reformulation de ce projet. Mais dans un contexte aujourd’hui bien différent, les thèmes qui sont débattus entre ces protagonistes, comme celui de la dérive autoritaire du libéralisme, des manipulations de masse, de la construction médiatique du réel n’ont rien perdu de leur actualité.

    Description: Situated in South-Western Provence in the massif of Sainte-Baume, some thirty kilometres from Marseille, the Grotte des Cèdres (Var) was first excavated during the 1950s. In 1987 re-excavation took place and comprised the reexamination of conserved standing stratification. This re-examination permitted the identification of two human occupation levels, both of short periods, situated in a cool environment at the end of the Middle Pleistocene. With the identification of a new lithic industry. the discovery of the largest quantity of Tahr Rissien remains in Europe belonging to a new species, and the determination of new sub-species of Rodents and Rabbit, this site is now to be placed amongst those of major importance for the Mediterranean Europe, which is further increased by the presence of a human remain.

Im Zentrum steht die Schlossherrin Joséphine von Ahlefeld, genannt Marix, und ihre enge Verbindung mit den wichtigsten Literaten ihrer Zeit in Paris. Als ein Glücksfall ist es zu betrachten, dass ein Text von Théophile Gautier ans Licht kam, der den Besuch des Schriftstellers auf Gut Ludwigsburg als Station auf einer längeren Reise schildert.     Description: In the 1980s and early 1990s, the municipalities of Mondeville, Grentheville, Cormelles-le-Royal and Giberville in the Calvados area of Normandy were the focus for a vast campaign of "préventive" (rescue) archeology. A few years after the close of the excavations, a considerable body of findings has amassed. By allowing us to consider areas several hundred hectares in extent, the research presented in the present volume paves the way for a full-scale approach to territorial archeology, from the emergence of the first farming communities to the metalworkers of the Late Bronze Age and Early Iron Age — a period of almost 5,000 years. We can observe the inhabitants settling, evolving slowly and progressively shaping the occupation of the plateau. By highlighting the relationships between Normandy and Brittany, the Paris Basin and the British Isles, the study enhances our understanding of the development and diffusion of the various regional cultures and sheds light on the pre- and protohistory of this part of the Caen Plain.

    Description: Construction of the northern TGV line resulted in the rescue excavation of Riencourt-lès-Bapaume. For the first time, it was possible in excavate a Middle Palaeolithic open air site on an area of 10,000 m2. The preliminary contributions brought together in this volume represent analysis completed on short notice using samples drawn from abundant lithic material (approximately 86,000 pieces). The archaeological levels dispersed in the lœssic sequence of the first part of the last glacial, have yielded lithic artifacts which can be assigned to many industries which illustrate the complexity of the Middle Paleolithic. The lithic assemblage of level CA demonstrates the presence of the production of Levallois flakes and another for the production of blades. The functional analysis have shown that both flake and blade reduction technologies are associated with the specific tool functions.

Although an interface between the southern and north-eastem branches, it is also the exclusive preserve of chalk flint. Applying the "technological system" concept, the author seeks to identify the skills levels of the flint knappers, asks whether expert knappers existed, and explores the spatial breakdown of the operational chain and the methods of acquiring and distributing raw materials in order to address the question of the socio-economic organization of flint tool production. Her exploration is based on the study of twelve reference series comprising over 100.000 flint artifacts in a multivariate analysis making use, among other approaches, of cladistics, the first time this technique has ever been applied to this field. By systematically referring to anthropological and historical questions, this book constitutes an important contri­bution to the study of the development of Neolithic communities across Europe.

    Description: In 1985-86, rescue excavations around the gallo-roman baths city of Aquae Bormonis brought to the surface exceptional ceramic material: hundreds of figurines, archetypes and casts, mostly original, prove the existence of a large workshop still to be precisely localized. This book is a synthetic study of these finds as well as of the structures and other types of material such as: common and glazed ceramic, terra sigillata, lamps (probably manufactured on the site); amphorae, coins, metallic and faunal material. Through the new chronological, typological and trading data exposed this volume is essential for people studying ceramic and any archaeologist working on the gallo-roman period.

    Description: In this work, Dominique Sordoillet accomplishes the difficult task of rendering a previously obscure discipline accessible to everyone. This work originates from her doctoral dissertation thesis, which received unanimous praise for its methodological and scientific rigor. Drawing on elements from the earth sciences, she studied the stratigraphy of three exemplary archaeological sites. The prehistoric sites of Gardon, Montou and Saint-Alban were thus subject to a precise micromorphological analysis, which considers a stratigraphy as a sedimentary record of time. Through a classification of the deposits into two large families based on their formation processes, she distinguishes the occupation facies, created by human activities, from the abandonment facies, which are characteristic of natural sedimentary and post-sedimentary processes. Based on these sedimentological data, replaced in their chronological and cultural contexts, she proposes different occupation scenarios and interpretations of the evolution of human activities, rituals and construction. This short, well illustrated presentation is written with a simple vocabulary and includes a glossary, all of which make it an effective tool for understanding the methods and objectives of micromorphology in the direct interest of field interpretations and methods.

    Description: The publication of excavations at Castellu throws an entirely new light upon late-Roman and early-medieval Corsica. The study includes an examination of the finds, most of which are of 6th century date, and an analysis of the faunal remains. The latter shows not only that domesticated species differed from those of the Iron-Age but also that eating habits had changed. The resulting picture is one of significant and long-lasting Romanisation of innerCorsica, and of ongoing trade relations with the rest of the Mediterranean region, even after the Van­dal invasion. The publication marks a major step towards a new understanding of this period of Corsican history.

Des liens inédits unissent beaux-parents et beaux-enfants, demi et « quasi » frères et sœurs, dans une ordonnance différente des lieux et des temps de la vie familiale. Apparaissent de nouvelles manières de vivre et de penser les liens de famille, qui interrogent nos repères traditionnels. Que signifie être père ou mère, beau-père ou belle-mère dans les familles recomposées ? Est-ce donner la vie, donner son nom et ses biens, nourrir et élever un enfant et le chérir, l’adopter ? Que signifie être frère ou sœur ? Avoir eu les mêmes parents biologiques, avoir partagé son enfance dans un même lieu ? Des relations amoureuses et sexuelles entre « quasi » frères et sœurs sont-elles licites ? C’est à ces questions que tente de répondre ce livre à travers l’exploration ethnographique d’une trentaine d’histoires familiales, où le point de vue des « beaux-enfants », devenus adultes, constitue le principal éclairage. A partir de leurs récits, mis en perspective par le recours à l’histoire et à l’anthropologie, Agnès Martial met au jour l’incertitude des termes, des rôles et des statuts qui constituent la trame familiale recomposée dans notre société. En interrogeant les relations entre générations, souvent perturbées par la séparation du couple parental et la notion d’inceste telle qu’elle émerge des pratiques, des discours et du droit, son analyse des familles recomposées permet de mieux comprendre le contenu des relations de filiation, de germanité et d’alliance dans les sociétés occidentales contemporaines.

    Description: Le nom de Clemens Heller est étroitement associé à de grandes réalisations en faveur des sciences sociales et humaines dans la deuxième moitié du XXe siècle. Ce créateur d’institutions, de programmes et d’initiatives œuvrait d’abord et surtout au plus près de la recherche en action : auprès des chercheurs et groupes de recherche. C’est pourquoi Clemens Heller, comme l’a dit Wolf Lepenies, « will remain, for innumerable scholars from many countries and disciplines, one of the most impressive administrators on the European scene ». Dans cette perspective, c’est l’expression d’une reconnaissance toute particulière que la première initiative d’hommage international à Clemens Heller, à l’occasion du centenaire de sa naissance, ait été prise en dehors des frontières françaises, dans une grande capitale européenne, à Berlin. Au mois de mai 2017, un colloque en souvenir de Clemens Heller a eu lieu à l’université Humboldt et au Wissenschaftskolleg de Berlin. Organisé par Joachim Nettelbeck sous le titre Clemens Heller, der intellektuelle Entrepreneur, il a réuni des chercheurs et des administrateurs de recherche de plusieurs pays. Le présent volume, préparé pour une manifestation en souvenir de Clemens Heller, organisée sous les auspices de la FMSH à la Maison Suger à la fin de l’année 2017, reprend une partie des communications présentées à Berlin. D’autres chapitres ont été rédigés directement pour ce volume.

    Description: The plan to extend the TGV high-speed rail link from Lyon to Marseille was a major scientific challenge, comprising 300 km of transect through archeologically highly-sensitive areas and notably the Rhone corridor — a key western European trunk route since prehistoric times. A rescue operation unprecedented in terms of its size and complexity was initiated to take up the challenge and in this volume, Odile Maufras presents the results of the campaign covering the medieval period. No less than 14 separate digs focused on sites of non-village rural occupation from the seventh to the fifteenth centuries. The sites are first described in a series of concise monographs whose standardized layout will help readers easily find their way. The second part studies key environmental aspects, material culture and cultural practices in a series of well-documented and presented overviews and analytical articles. The work throws new light on the sort of isolated habitats which are generally so difficult to pinpoint and updates the geographical and environmental picture of the central Rhone valley. It returns to the question of a break between late Antiquity and the Middle Ages, while at the same time refining our knowledge of organizational development in the countryside.

L'application à un terrain français des méthodes de l'ethnologie classique, la minutie et la qualité de l'observation, font de « Minot » une entreprise qui désormais fait référence. Dans ce village, semblable à bien d'autres, voisin en quelque sorte, les auteurs ont réussi à restituer la figure vivante d'une petite société rurale et son ordre profond.

    Description: Parmi les sports de compétition, le rugby apparaît comme l’un des plus « virils ». Il doit pour une bonne part cette réputation au jeu lui-même - mêlées, plaquages et autres « percussions » plus ou moins violentes -, mais aussi au parfum de scandale qui entoure les « troisièmes mi-temps » d’après match. La rumeur véhicule à leur propos des légendes épiques et picaresques d’excès alimentaires, éthyliques ou sexuels qui semblent également faire partie du jeu. Le monde du rugby institue ainsi une sociabilité d’hommes qui passe par l’exclusion, volontiers emphatique, des femmes et tout particulièrement des épouses de joueurs, celles que l’on appelle parfois les « veuves du rugby ». Mais les femmes et les valeurs du féminin ne sont-elles pas beaucoup plus présentes qu’il n’y paraît de prime abord ? Grâce à une ethnographie approfondie, Anne Saouter démontre que, à côté du modèle dominant dans lequel les femmes ne peuvent être que des « mamans » ou des « putains », on voit se dessiner d’autres modes de présence du féminin, grâce notamment au personnage encore marginal de la joueuse de rugby. L’expansion du rugby féminin suffira-t-elle cependant à remettre en cause un édifice symbolique qui, du moins dans le rugby français, correspondait à une véritable initiation masculine ? Initiation qui imposait déjà des jeux ambigus avec la définition des sexes, dont témoigne le soupçon d’homosexualité (plus ou moins « refoulée ») qui pèse sur les joueurs.

    Description: Quelle place tient la télévision dans la vie des adolescents ? Comment se constituent leurs relations à l'écran ? Quels liens établissent-ils avec les personnages imaginaires des séries qu'ils regardent ? Telles sont quelques unes des questions auxquelles Dominique Pasquier répond dans ce livre. Pendant quatre années, elle a dépouillé des milliers de lettres adressées par des petites fans à l'héroïne de la série à succès Hélène et les garçons. Elle a, de plus, enquêté dans des familles, discuté de leurs personnages préférés avec des collégiens et lycéens, observé des jeux collectifs dans les cours de récréation. Car, et c'est l'un des premiers apports de cette recherche, l'expérience des médias n'est jamais une expérience solitaire : la sociabilité enfantine se constitue en intègrant ces héros familiers. Pièce par pièce, l'auteur nous entraîne ici dans une enquête minutieuse, subtile et émouvante au cours de laquelle on découvre la place jouée par la fiction dans l'apprentissage de la vie sentimentale, son rôle d'accompagnement des premières expériences amoureuses et la position stratégique qu'elle occupe dans la nouvelle définition des identités sexuées. Ni dupes, ni dupés, ni passifs, ni manipulés, les enfants et les adolescents utilisent la fiction comme une expérience du monde et ses personnages comme des modèles de vie : il faut leur ressembler pour arriver à être soi. Mais ces héros au pouvoir normatif sont l'objet d'une identification fugitive qui cesse dès qu'en est épuisé le potentiel. Par delà l'originalité de la démarche et la finesse des analyses, ce travail pionnier n'a pas seulement le mérite d'éliminer certains stéréotypes liés à l'utilisation de la télévision par les jeunes : il ouvre la voie à une véritable anthropologie des publics.

    Description: Les sourds-muets, aujourd’hui rebaptisés « sourds » - ce qui n’est pas sans entraîner quelques confusions - ont été entièrement délaissés par les sciences sociales, qui ont cru sur parole le discours médical de la déficience et de sa réparation à tout prix. Ce discours, qui semble relever de l’évidence tant la surdimutité est un objet de scandale pour la pensée ordinaire, est pourtant historiquement daté : au xixe siècle, les sourds-muets étaient reconnus comme une catégorie anthropologique, avant que la langue des signes ne soit interdite pendant cent ans à partir de 1880 dans les instituts d’enseignement. Les sourds sont porteurs d’une radicale étrangeté. Pour eux, être sourd réfère moins à un déficit d’audition qu’à l’affiliation à un groupe linguistique et culturel. Symétriquement, l’entendant est moins celui qui est pourvu d’audition que l’autre culturel : celui qui, ne connaissant pas la langue des sourds, se méprend sur ce qu’ils sont. Un profond sentiment de complétude, incompréhensible pour les tenants de l’idéologie de la déficience, se fonde sur l’existence d’une langue qui, pour emprunter un canal différent de celui de toutes les autres langues humaines, n’en présente pas moins les mêmes fonctions et les mêmes richesses. « Les sourds, c’est comme ça » : telle est l’expression qui conclut fréquemment les récits, et qui a pour fonction de souligner ce qu’il y a d’unique dans l’expérience sourde du monde. Fidèle à sa vocation, qui est de décrire les productions collectives d’un groupe humain, telles qu’elles sont vécues et pensées par lui, l’ethnologue donne à voir l’autre côté du miroir. Lui aussi montre, à sa manière, que « les sourds, c’est comme ça ». Bilan de sept années d’enquête, ce livre vient infirmer les représentations communes de la surdimutité comme malheur individuel. Il la montre telle qu’elle est : une singularité qui a trouvé sa voie propre pour accéder à la symbolisation.

    Description: Qu’est-ce que le patrimoine culturel immatériel ? Pourquoi inventer une nouvelle catégorie de patrimoine dans un monde déjà obsédé par la conservation des traces du passé ? Peut-on protéger des expressions culturelles vivantes sans les figer ? À qui revient la charge de le faire ? À qui appartient ce patrimoine ? À travers une analyse des politiques culturelles récemment engagées par les États à la suite de la Convention de l’Unesco pour la sauvegarde du patrimoine culturel immatériel (2003), cet ouvrage propose des premières réponses à ces questions. En effet, cette catégorie patri­moniale, qui suscite des attentes et un engouement croissants parmi les acteurs sociaux et politiques à l’échelle planétaire, est à l’origine de vives controverses entre acteurs ins­titutionnels et scientifiques. Modelée sur une acception anthropologique de la culture, cette notion ne peut que retenir l’attention des ethnolo­gues, qu’ils choisissent de s’investir dans le chantier d’élaboration de ce patrimoine, ou d’observer à distance l’« effet Unesco » sur des objets tels que la samba de roda ou les fêtes de la Tarasque. Au cœur du débat anthropologique contemporain, l’institution du patrimoine immatériel est trop récente pour avoir déjà fait ses preuves. Mais les difficultés qu’elle pose, aux acteurs sociaux et aux institutions, en France comme à l’étranger, montrent que, loin de simplement élargir le champ patrimonial, elle implique des changements profonds. Les contributions ici réunies en analysent certaines des limites et des potentialités.

    Description: One of the large international and interdisciplinary research projects on the Palaeolithic of France during the middle of the 20th century was the excavation of the abri Pataud (Les Eyzies, Dordogne). From this project, directed by Hallam L. Movius, Jr., came innovations in excavation technique and artifact analysis that have contributed to the methodological synthesis underlying current research. The abri Pataud is one of the key sequences of the earlier Upper Palaeolithic in the Southwest. The publication began in 1975 but was left unfinished because of the death of Pr Movius in 1987. His closest collaborators have summarized here the results of the project, including unpublished studies of the Protomagdalenian, Middle Perigordian, and Aurignacian occupations, new radiocarbon dates, a reappraisal of the geochronology, and an extensively annotated catalogue of Aurignacian and Perigordian sites in Dordogne which allows the abri Pataud to be seen in its regional context.

    Description: « L’argent est la seule création culturelle qui soit de pure énergie, qui se soit complètement abstraite de son support matériel, n’étant plus qu’absolu symbole. Il est le plus significatif des phénomènes de notre temps dans la mesure où sa dynamique a envahi le sens de toute théorie et de toute pratique. » La Philosophie de l’argent de Georg Simmel, dont la première édition parut en 1900, suivie d’une édition augmentée en 1907, a donné à la sociologie, au moment même où elle naissait en Allemagne, un tour très particulier. Comme le marxisme Simmel traite du capital et du travail ; comme Max Weber il traite des formations sociales et des forces morales qui les portent. Mais il le fait en des termes qui, tout à la fois, sont profondément marqués par le contexte spirituel de l’époque – en particulier la « philosophie de la Vie » – et qui ont révélé toutes leurs potentialités critiques en ce qui concerne l’interprétation de la « vie moderne ». Les cinq textes de ce recueil portent précisément sur le rapport entre l’argent et « l’économie de la vie ». Il ne s’agit nullement de parega mais, dans l’optique de la sociologie de la culture dont Simmel est le fondateur, d’études qui permettent d’appréhender l’ensemble de sa pensée et qu’il a d’ailleurs en partie intégrées à certaines de ses publications majeures, et notamment à son ouvrage-testament Lebensanschauung.
