    Description: After a long process, the reopening of Milanese canals has become one of the fundamental actions of the Town Plan approved in 2019. A strategic project that plans to reactivate the covered section of the Naviglio Martesana and the Cerchia Interna, reuniting Adda and Ticino rivers, and give new life to the great Renaissance project that Leonardo himself had worked on. In its methodological approach and in the specific outcome achieved, we can recognize elements of continuity with Leonardo’s thinking and contribute to a territorialist reflection on its current relevance.

    Chapter I prestiti verbali nei dialetti sloveni del Friuli: tra integrazione aspettuale e biaspettualità (2023)

    Description: The article analyses the morphological means used by the Slovenian dialects of Friuli in adapting loan verbs to their aspectual system in comparison to the traditional means of expressing verbal aspect in the indigenous Slavic lexicon. In relation to verbs of Slavic origin, the formation of aspectual pairs was mainly realised by means of prefixation to the base verb (thereby perfectivising it), whereas with loans from the adjacent Romance varieties (Friulian, Italian, Venetian) suffixation proves more productive (yielding imperfectivisation). The analysis is carried out on the dialect of Resia as well as those from the Torre and Natisone Valleys. Despite some differences, in all three dialects there is generally a strong tendency to integrate loan verbs into the aspectual systems of these varieties. Biaspectual verbs, on the other hand, are relatively rare except for the particular case of the verbs in -inat in Resian.

    Description: The paper deals with the metting and the collective work which led to the publication of the comic book "Bandierine. Tutta una storia di Resistenze". It deas with a group of stories linked to a story which works as a frame. The coordinator of this job was the author and comic book writer Andrea Paggiaro, known also as Tuono Pettinato, who died in june 2021. In order to cope with the history of Resistenza with we took into account the most recent historical literature. Everyone can judge the efficacy of the book after having read it; htis essay tried to describe the pace taken into consideration for publishing the book.

    Description: Among his hydraulic designs, Leonardo planned the construction of an artificial lake in an area east of the castle of Vinci, his native village. The project, a surprising demonstration of his perfect knowledge of places where he lived, is illustrated in three drawings found and studied by Renzo Cianchi. Today, it is particularly interesting to analyze the feasibility of Leonardo’s project, by chronologically translating it to the 21st century, namely in 2020. Based on an accurate hydrologic analysis, this paper aims at providing further insights on Leonardo’s study, focusing on the feasibility of the dam.

    Description: Leonardo’s manuscripts contain many quotes of ‘his’ Western Alps, well-known mountains sketched, with lakes, rivers and towns, creating outstanding territorial readings. In the 19th century, he became a turning point between medieval representation techniques and the great cartographic reform of the 16th century. Leonardo’s approach to territorial drawing, his evolutionary theories on the history of the Earth, his measuring and survey instruments, his calculation of mountains altitudes can be compared to subsequent maps confirming, , with ideal overlaps, the crystal clear anticipations of the ‘Grande di Vinci’.

    Description: The volume aims to fit into the existing studies in Italy and Portugal on the Portuguese 18th century, however describing the 18th century from a new, inclusive (and no more separatist), point of view between Portugal, Macao (in the south of China) and Brazil. The related insight does not have the claim to completeness, but offers an overview, allowing the lector to range over three Lusitanian territories. According to this principle of completeness, the volume is divided in three chapters within which historical, iconographical and literary themes of the 18th century are illustrated. The volume higlights historical facts, literary works, also through an European view of the same period, that have marked the Portuguese, Asian and Brazilian 18th century.

    Description: This study deals with aspectuality in Resian, a Slovene-based variety of north-eastern Italy, and the probable role of Romance influence on developments in this domain. In part, these findings are compared with the situation found with other non-Romance linguistic varieties spoken in Italy, especially Molise Slavic. The functional-semantic field of aspectuality is considered both in relation to its grammatical centre, viz. verbal aspect, and its lexical periphery. Language contact plays an important role in the almost complete transition of the Resian dual aspect system to a purely derivational opposition “imperfective : perfective”, also absorbing most of its prior morphosyntactic opposition “imperfect : aorist : perfect”. Furthermore, the special aspectual selection properties of phasal verbs and the role of aspect in the functions of modal verbs merit particular mention in this respect. In the case of lexical and periphrastic means of expression, a number of calqued progressive and prospective (imminent) periphrases, mostly calqued from Romance models, are discussed.

    Description: The paper highlitghts the role played by comics in stimulating formative and cultural literacy processes held in contemporary world. After having devoted time to the Italian situation, it highlights the potential and the limits comics met on an educational basis, as it is necessary to use them critically and on a reasonable basis. After the First World War, comics were spread extensively for war propaganda aims. Afterwards, the Great War has consolidated its presence in essays and volumes, as several comics about it were published, almost of all for its anniversary.

    Description: This study, through the use of hundreds of archival documents over a period of about two centuries, highlights the total reversal in the silk trade that occurred from the beginning of the 15th century: silk cloth no longer crossed the Mediterranean from East to West, as in previous centuries, but from West to East. Jewish, Turkish and Syrians merchants, and above all the Sublime Porte showed continued appreciation for Florentine silks. Through the analysis of the sources, every phase of such export is described in detail: the purchase of the cloths in Florence, their shipment, transport and finally the sale through Florentine correspondents in Constantinople. This flow of silks continued until the first decades of the 16th century, only to decline rapidly around the middle of the century.

    Description: Das außergewöhnliche Dossier von Pergament- und Papyrusurkunden aus den Provinzen Syria Coele und Mesopotamia (P.Euphr.) bereichert unsere Kenntnis vom gelebten Recht in einer Grenzregion des Römischen Reiches im kriegerischen dritten Jahrhundert nach Christus. Die Urkunden vom Mittleren Euphrat, die alle aus der Epoche nach der Constitutio Antoniniana stammen, stellen eine singuläre Erkenntnisquelle für die bürgerliche Geschäftswelt dieser Region dar, aus der bislang hauptsächlich die in militärischem Umfeld verfassten Urkunden aus Dura Europos bekannt waren. Als Texte, die nicht mit dem Blick auf ein Publikum konzipiert wurden, sind die untersuchten Urkunden zuverlässige Zeugnisse für die Strukturen der alltäglichen antiken Realität. Die Arbeit, die sich auf die Vertragsurkunden P.Euphr. 6 - P.Euphr. 15 konzentriert, bietet den ersten umfassenden privatrechtsgeschichtlichen Kommentar zu den Euphratpapyri aus dezidiert juristischer Perspektive. Der Inhalt der Urkunden umfasst den Verkauf mehrerer Sklaven, eines Tieres und eines Bootes, eine Verwahrung, ein hypothekarisch gesichertes Darlehen mit Antichrese, einen Schulderlass und eine unvollendete Urkunde. Zu mehreren Urkunden legt die Autorin erstmalig deutsche Übersetzungen vor. Durch stetige Vergleiche mit den Urkunden aus Ägypten einerseits und den Urkunden aus Dura Europos und aus dem Archiv der Babatha andererseits werden im juristischen Kommentar die in den Texten belegten Rechtsinstitute in den Rahmen der Urkundenpraxis in den Provinzen eingeordnet und mögliche Entwicklungslinien aus den verschiedenen Rechtskreisen und Geschäftsgewohnheiten aufgezeigt, wobei auch altorientalische Rechtsinstitute berücksichtigt werden. Ebenso werden die Urkundentäfelchen aus dem Geschäftsleben der westlichen Regionen des Römischen Reiches miteinbezogen. Parallel dazu erfolgt eine eingehende Erforschung des Einflusses des abstrakten römischen Rechts, wie es insbesondere im CIC und in den Institutionen des Gaius überliefert ist, sowie des griechisch-hellenistischen Rechtskreises. Ein besonderer inhaltlicher Schwerpunkt liegt auf der Rechts- und Sachmängelgewährleistung beim Kauf von Sklaven und Tieren. Einen weiteren wichtigen Fokus der Arbeit bildet die Erforschung der Stellung der Frau im Wirtschaftsleben dieser Epoche, wie sie aus den Urkunden erkennbar ist.

    Description: The thirteenth volume of Comunicazioni dell’Istituto Papirologico «G. Vitelli» is divided, as was the previous one, into three sections: 1. Editions and rieditions of texts; 2. Critical notes; 3. Chronique de lexicographie papyrologique de la vie matérielle. In the first section there are texts which are being published for the first time or which are subject to a revision and a new edition, both belonging to various collections. This section also includes the exhibition of an exceptional artefact from the Arab period, belonging to the Papyrological Institute «G. Vitelli»’s collection. The second section includes three contributions with careful palaeographic and linguistic observations on literary and documentary texts, and a fourth contribution offering an exhaustive summary of the publication state of an archive from the Institute's collection. Lastly, the third section, as consolidated by the previous volume of the Comunicazioni, collects several findings of the international research project on the lexicography of material culture (Lex.Pap.Mat.), documented in the language of papyri.

Anzeichen für eine lediglich oberflächliche Verbreitung der transformierten griechischen Kultur legen Vergleiche mit neuzeitlichen Kolonialgesellschaften nahe, auch wenn die hellenistischen Reiche kein Mutterland hatten. Die drei letzten vorchristlichen Jahrhunderte waren jedenfalls unstreitig von hoher Mobilität, intensiver Kulturbegegnung, von Symbiose und geistigem Austausch geprägt. Damals wurden die in der Polis entstandenen Ideen zu Herrschaft und Rechtsstaatlichkeit in großflächige Herrschaftsgebilde überführt und gingen später in die lateinische Literatur des römischen Imperiums und dann frühe christliche Gedankengebäude über. Die Frage, wie Konfliktlösung in einer dieser polyethnischen ostmediterranen Gesellschaft funktionierte, kann nur für Ägypten beantwortet werden, da allein hier in nennenswertem Umfang auch Alltagsschriftgut überliefert ist. Anhand der vielfältigen Rechtsschutzgesuche an unterschiedliche Autoritäten (Gerichte, Beamte, Vereinsvorstände) sowie anhand der wenigen Zeugnisse königlicher Regulierung der Rechtsschutzgewährung soll in dieser Untersuchung primär das Konfliktlösungsverhalten der griechischsprachigen Bevölkerungsschicht kartographiert werden, das sich durch die Vielfalt der Instanzen trotz grundlegender Untersuchungen zur Gerichtsorganisation (v.a. von Hans-Julius Wolff) noch immer unserem Verständnis entzieht. Um die bisherigen Ansätze zu überwinden, wird als Ausgangsthese angenommen, dass staatliche Eingriffe in die vorhandene Vielfalt der Konfliktlösungsinstanzen nur bei äußerem Zwang erfolgten und sie ansonsten der Selbstorganisation überlassen wurden.

    Description: This article shows that particle verbs in Burgenland Croatian – a notable morphosyntactic phenomenon of language contact – may form aspectual pairs in a typically Slavic manner. Particle-based pairs with an indigenous base verb are formed by means of suffixation, suffix opposition, suppletion or prefixation. In the case of spatial relations, by contrast, preverbs predominate over prefixes, leading to a reduction of the old inventory of verbal compounds. Nevertheless, preverbs are only rarely obligatory in the formation of aspectual pairs. In the case of borrowings, only prefixation is productive, which might be attributed to German (and Hungarian) influence. On a par with other aspectual pairs, particle-based formations may express taxis relations (sequence, simultaneity, incidence). Language contact possibly contributed to the preservation of the Contextually Conditioned Imperfective Past also in imperfective particle verbs.

    Description: The Naviglio di Ivrea (Turin) sketched in sheet 563r of the Atlantic Code, drew Leonardo’s attention when he was working as hydraulic engineer in the nearby Milan. A research on the rich documentation available in local archives led to identify techniques and materials used to build the Naviglio, often similar to those in Leonardo’s hydraulic studies and drawings, and to show both its interaction with the surrounding territories and the continuous updates in hydraulic engineering from the XV to the XIX centuries. The persisting relevance of the canal through centuries is a testament to Leonardo’s ancient intuition.

The strategies of intervention mapped out in international programmes (gender mainstreaming and empowerment) underscore the commitment and the responsibilities of educational processes. The aim of the book is to stimulate reflection on the role of education in the establishment of gender identities and in fostering the human rights of women in contemporary society. With a view to an interdisciplinary feminist and feminine analysis, which is essential to the development and interweaving of gender issues and points of educational interest, the question is posed as to whether a new sensitivity and a more widespread gender culture could successfully trigger daily practices of gender-oriented education.

    Description: The 43rd UID conference, held in Genova, takes up the theme of ‘Dialogues’ as practice and debate on many fundamental topics in our social life, especially in these complex and not yet resolved times. The city of Genova offers the opportunity to ponder on the value of comparison and on the possibilities for the community, naturally focused on the aspects that concern us, as professors, researchers, disseminators of knowledge, or on all the possibile meanings of the discipline of representation and its dialogue with ‘others’, which we have broadly catalogued in three macro areas: History, Semiotics, Science / Technology. Therefore, “dialogue” as a profitable exchange based on a common language, without which it is impossible to comprehend and understand one another; and the graphic sign that connotes the conference is the precise transcription of this concept: the title ‘translated’ into signs, derived from the visual alphabet designed for the visual identity of the UID since 2017.     Description: The article provides a survey of aspect-tense (AT) grams in (North) Slavic and Baltic, with some account of Finnic. More recently developed grams (bound morphology and constructions) are evaluated against a deeper diachronic and larger areal backdrop in order to assess the significance of contact as a factor contributing to convergence of Slavic and Baltic varieties in the AT domain. In fact, the amount of actually converging features related to grammatical oppositions in this area is quite small; these are: (i) Prominent parallels in the strict subject- vs. object-oriented division of perfects in Slavic (mainly Belarusian) rural varieties, which must have been supported by an ancient and very stable Baltic model. (ii) Suffixation patterns of stem derivation in Aukštaitian Lithuanian resembling Slavic secondary imperfectivisation. The reasons for a generally low level of mutual influence between Baltic and Slavic are subjected to some methodological discussion.

    Description: The volume contains the transcription of the reports presented at the International Conference held in Florence on 14th and 15th June 2012: there are 15 original essays, written (upon request) by authoritative scholars of various Italian and foreign universities, on the important contributions made by their papyrus finds over more than a century to the knowledge of the lost works by Aeschylus and Sophocles, as well as on the value of the papyri for the constitution of the text of their preserved tragedies. The essays are equally divided between Aeschylus and Sophocles, and touch on all the major questions which the study of papyrology has raised for the philological and literary research on the two great tragedy writers. Both for the prestige of the authors and for the variety of the topics addressed, the volume offers an interesting and authoritative picture of the 'state of the art' of the studies in this regard, in light of the interrelationships between papyrology and Greek literature.

    Description: Antinoupolis III, yet another volume having as its object an extremely important archaeological area in Graeco-Roman Egypt: the city founded on the left bank of the Nile in 130 AD by Hadrian in honour of Antinoos. Over 700 pages constitute the two volumes of this publication. The first volume proposes several studies on archaeological materials, such as African sealed ceramics, locally produced wine amphorae (LRA 7), stone mortars, sporadic fragments of ornamental stones, a cup with a glass-painted inside, fabrics of the so-called 'Coptic' type, as well as analysis of forensic anthropology on the bone remains of a certain Theodosia, whose funeral chapel had been discovered and illustrated in the excavations conducted on the site of the University of Florence in the mid-1930s. In the second volume, there are editions of new papyri, parchments and ostraka, with texts based on documents from everyday life or from the Classical and Christian literary culture. The involved languages are Ancient Greek, Coptic and Arabic. The inscriptions in these three languages, most of them funerary, bring forth significant novelties. The documentation is evidence of the life which, especially in the late ancient age, carried on in the remains of a large metropolis located in Egypt, one of the most important provinces of the Roman empire.

    Description: The Kalush are the last Kafirs (pagans) of Hindu Kush and speak an Indo-European language, which makes them a particularly precious resource for the Indo-European scholar. This thesis offers an in-depth study of their language and of some aspects of their culture. Starting from the data collected during a field study in the least well-known of the three Kalasha valleys, on the border between Pakistan and Afghanistan, the author proposes a contrastive analysis of the everyday language and that used for poetry. This analysis, and the mass of ethnographic data considered, enable the author to identify the socio-cultural reasons behind certain linguistic choices that can be observed in the poetic discourse, thus bringing to light the essence of the relations between language and culture.

    Description: Die vorliegende Arbeit leistet einen Beitrag zum Verständnis des jüdischen Rechts der Antike und zeigt insbesondere seine Verbindungen zum römischen Recht auf. Am Beispiel der talmudischen Preisregelung אונאה (sog. ona’ah), die im 2. Jahrhundert in Palästina entstand und zunächst große Unterschiede zur römischen Preissicherung bei Grundstücksverkäufen (CJ.4.44.2) aufwies, erläutert die Untersuchung, wie sich das jüdische Recht unter unterschiedlichen Herrschaftsbedingungen entwickelte. Gleichzeitig wird das römische Recht selbst durch die Einbeziehung zeitgebundener wirtschaftlicher und sozialer Rahmenbedingungen nicht bloß dogmatisch analysiert, sondern in seiner historischen Entwicklung und Vergleichbarkeit mit anderen Rechtskulturen erfasst. Beschäftigte sich die bisherige Forschung eingehend mit der römischen laesio enormis (der Begriff stammt aus dem Mittelalter), die garantierte, dass bei Landverkäufen der vereinbarte Preis die Hälfte des Wertes nicht unterschritt, fand die zeitgleiche talmudische Preisgrenze von einem Sechstel bislang kaum Beachtung. Obwohl Grundstücksgeschäfte von der אונאה (ona’ah) ausgenommen waren, liegen beiden Rechtsnormen ähnliche Vorstellungen von materiellem Wert und seiner Preisrelation zugrunde. Die Gemeinsamkeiten und Unterschiede zwischen römischem und jüdischem Recht werden anhand der schriftlichen Thora, der Tosefta, der Mischna, des palästinischen und babylonischen Talmuds, sowie anhand des Corpus Iuris Civilis, des diokletianischen Höchstpreisedikts und des Codex Theodosianus erläutert.

    Description: The essay aims at reconstructing the history of the University of Florence, from the fall of fascism on July 25th 1943 to the post-World War II period. At the center of this path lies Piero Calamandrei's Rettorato, which began in the summer of 1943 and immediately interrupted by events related to September 8th and the armistice with the Allied powers. As dean of the university, in the aftermath of the Liberation of Florence in August 1944, Calamandrei marked a significant turning point. It was a turning point that not only promptly revived teaching and research functions; but it was also able to provide for the reinstatement of teachers expelled as a result of the racial legislation and for opposition to fascism, along with the beginning of the removals of teachers most involved with the dictatorship. At the same time, in the context of a city deeply involved in the Liberation, the new constitutional order of the Republic began to be drawn; a constitutional project to which Florentine professors - such as Piero Calamandrei and Giorgio La Pira - would offer an outstanding contribution.

    Description: The paper describes a research on Leonardo da Vinci’s activity as a military architect in Piombino, Tuscany, in the early years of the 16th century. These studies use modern digital survey technologies in order to recognize if, in the remains of the town’s defensive system, there are still traces of the intervention carried out in Leonardo’s time, and integrate these data with the analysis of historical-documentary sources and the results of recent archaeological and stratigraphic analyses. The achieved results were finally compared with Leonardo da Vinci’s drawings, obtaining some interesting feedback.

The appendix of the volume contains a summary of the events organised in occasion of the eighty years anniversary, preceded by the introduction by Rector Augusto Marinelli and the index of the volumes.

    Description: Unter den epigraphischen Quellen aus späthellenistischer Zeit nimmt der Volksbeschluss über Maße und Gewichte IG II2 1013 eine besondere Rolle für das Verständnis des Rechts- und Wirtschaftslebens im antiken Athen ein. Im vorliegenden Band werden die einzelnen Passagen dieses Dekrets eingehend aus dezidiert juristischer und rechtshistorischer Perspektive untersucht — ein Ansatz, der bisher kaum oder nur unvollständig verfolgt wurde. Dazu wird zunächst eine Neuedition des Psephismas mit eigener Übersetzung präsentiert. Die allgemein von anderen Autoren angenommene Aufteilung in Paragraphen wird in modifizierter Form übernommen. Aufbauend darauf ist dann die inhaltliche Analyse, dem Textfluss folgend, in thematisch zusammenhängende Kapitel gegliedert. Die Untersuchung konzentriert sich dabei unter anderem auf die für inkorrektes oder gar betrügerisches Messen vorgesehenen Rechtsfolgen, wofür sich vor allem eine kritische Betrachtung vorhergehender Editionen des Textes der ersten Zeilen als aufschlussreich erweist. Die im Dekret enthaltenen metrologischen Reformen werden eingehend untersucht; zur Regelung über das Fünfminenstück wird ein gänzlich neuer Erklärungsansatz angeboten. Besondere Aufmerksamkeit finden darüber hinaus Rolle und Funktion der Bule im Rahmen der Bestimmungen des Volksbeschlusses, des Weiteren die Aufgaben der Staatssklaven im Zusammenhang mit der Aufbewahrung offizieller Messinstrumente sowie schließlich die Strafbefugnisse des Areopags. Der letzte Abschnitt ist den komplexen Fragestellungen nach der genauen Datierung sowie den Gründen für den Erlass des Dekrets gewidmet, wobei insbesondere eine neue Sicht der möglichen Rolle Roms in diesem Kontext vorgestellt wird.

    Description: A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man presents a non-linear compositional progression, characterised by continual fractures, bifurcations and revisions; the genetic dossier includes pre-compositional notes and works that were never published, such as Epiphanies, A Portrait of the Artist and Stephen Hero. The genetic analysis of this long process of writing, the documentation of which covers a period of around fourteen years, reveals not only how the Portrait was conceived and composed, but also Joyce's evolution as a writer from the very first evidence of his literary activity. This new perspective on Joyce's mode of composition opens the way to a range of potential interpretations of the individual texts, as well as methodological and theoretical insights regarding genetic criticism.

    Description: This book focuses on one of the prime movers in the unification of Lunigiana – a region which at the time was still broken up into a myriad of tiny feudal holdings, almost all in the hands of the various branches of the Malaspina family. The process of unification began in the fifteenth century, when various areas of the region were conquered by Milan and Florence, which also divided between them the hegemony of the remaining independent territories, while Genoa too displayed an interest in expansion in the region. As a result it became crucial for the local lords to manoeuvre between the various forces at play to maintain the independence of their own little states. Among the figures who displayed the greatest dexterity in this was Gabriele Malaspina, who became a leading player on the stage of local history. The book starts by illustrating the period in which Malaspina succeeded in obtaining his political independence, and then goes on to analyse the phase in which his policy came to be characterised by an absolute loyalty to Florence. Finally the book addresses the last part of the Marquis's life, marked by a progressive distancing from the Florentine alliance in favour of other entities, in which he nevertheless always succeeded in maintaining his independence.
    Description: Al centro di questo volume è uno degli attori principali nel processo di riunificazione della Lunigiana – regione allora suddivisa in tante piccole signorie, quasi tutte nelle mani dei vari rami della famiglia Malaspina – che avvenne nel XV secolo, quando Milano e Firenze vi conquistarono diversi territori e si spartirono l'egemonia sui restanti territori autonomi, mentre anche Genova si mostrò interessata all'espansione in quella zona. Per i signori locali divenne quindi fondamentale riuscire a destreggiarsi fra le varie forze in gioco per mantenere l'indipendenza del proprio piccolo stato, e fra i personaggi che più risaltano per questa loro abilità e per il ruolo giocato nella storia locale spicca Gabriele Malaspina. Il libro inizia mostrando la situazione della Lunigiana al momento in cui il Malaspina ottenne la propria indipendenza politica, per poi analizzare il periodo in cui la politica marchionale si caratterizzò per la sua assoluta fedeltà all'amicizia fiorentina, e quindi la parte finale della vita del marchese, in cui si assiste a un progressivo allontanamento dall'alleanza fiorentina in favore di altri soggetti, ma in cui riuscì sempre a mantenere la sua indipendenza.

    Description: This book investigates the linguistic and formal aspects of more than a thousand requests for justice and protection preserved in Egyptian papyri of the Roman Principate, mainly written in Greek. For many centuries in Egypt, from the Ptolemaic period to the late Roman Empire, petitions addressed to the judicial authorities shared the same textual structure and made use of recurring lexical formulas. Such uniformity was the result of the adherence by scribes and legal advisers to repertoires that had wide circulation. This study evaluates the correspondence between the formulas of the petitions and legislation, normative conventions, and spoken and literary language, and how these factors interacted with each other over the centuries.

The setting up of the working group on Electronic Publishing, co-ordinated by the University of Florence, formalised this interest, stimulating the analysis of the state of the art in this field in Italy, the opportunities which it offered to the academic world and the definition of possible lines of development. The "Recommendations" comprised in this publication are addressed to the delegates of the Chancellors of the Italian universities and their collaborators, and intended to provide information and suggestions for the development of electronic publishing initiatives.     Description: This paper deals with the Upper Sorbian aspect categories. While the traditional inflectional opposition imperfect vs. aorist is still widely used in the standard variety, it has almost disappeared from the colloquial variety used in the Catholic area of Upper Lusatia in Eastern Germany. By contrast, the derivational opposition of perfectivity formally persists in this area but has undergone some changes which are very specific to this variety. In particular, this aspect opposition, expressed by means of prefixes and suffixes has been radically restructured, such that its functional domain has shifted from grammatical aspect to grammatical telicity. It is argued that the starting point of this change is to be sought in an identification of the Sorbian aspect-sensitive grammatical prefixes with the German prefixes which mainly express telicity in processes of word formation. Special usages dealt with in this study are, on the one hand, the expression of habituality through (formally) imperfective verbs and, surprisingly, the expression of ongoing telic processes, but also of the analytical future, by means of their perfective correlates, on the other.

    Description: The essay illustrates the progressive weakening of the figure of the prince-bishop of Trento, feudal lord of most of the holders of castle lordships in the Trentino area. During the fourteenth century and especially the fifteenth century, noble families learned to look to Vienna and Innsbruck and to participate in the Tyrolean diets. With the sole exception of Alexander of Mazovia, the Trentino prince-bishops following Niccolò da Brno were all faithful to the empire and indeed strong supporters of it.

Based on the extensive investigation of the project La signoria rurale nell’Italia del tardo medioevo, this essay examines the numerous cases of peasant rebellion in the Italian peninsula, scarcely known to historians – who have mostly focused on urban uprisings – and never assessed on a large scale. The comparative perspective allows to analyse the causes, contexts, relevance, and results of such revolts, as well as to understand not only the features of lordships in late medieval Italy, but also the nature of the relationship between lords and subjects.

    Description: The aim of this article is to discuss a change in the expression of perfective aspect in Griko. According to Rohlfs (1977), this variety of Italo-Greek only possesses a synthetic past perfective form, thus failing to mark a distinction between the past punctual and present perfect values of the perfective. And yet, some changes in the expression of this macrocategory were already taking place at the time of Rohlfs when an originally resultative periphrastic form was beginning to be used beyond its original limits. By taking into account a wider array of sources, including both early and contemporary written attestations, as well as data collected with native speakers, we show how the regrammaticalization of this analytic construction, from resultative to present perfect marker, was already under way in the late nineteenth century and is now completed for some speakers. The article concludes with a number of reflections about the role played by contact in these developments.

There are many topics which refer to three macro sessions: - Witnessing (signs and history) - Communicating (signs and semiotics) - Experimenting (signs and sciences) Thanks to the different points of view, an exceptional resource of our disciplinary area, we want to try to outline the prevailing theoretical-operational synergies, the collaborative lines of an instrumental nature, the recent updates of the repertoires of images that attest and nourish the relations among representation, history, semiotics, sciences.

    Description: The 43rd UID conference, held in Genova, takes up the theme of ‘Dialogues’ as practice and debate on many fundamental topics in our social life, especially in these complex and not yet resolved times. The city of Genova offers the opportunity to ponder on the value of comparison and on the possibilities for the community, naturally focused on the aspects that concern us, as professors, researchers, disseminators of knowledge, or on all the possibile meanings of the discipline of representation and its dialogue with ‘others’, which we have broadly catalogued in three macro areas: History, Semiotics, Science / Technology. Therefore, “dialogue” as a profitable exchange based on a common language, without which it is impossible to comprehend and understand one another; and the graphic sign that connotes the conference is the precise transcription of this concept: the title ‘translated’ into signs, derived from the visual alphabet designed for the visual identity of the UID since 2017.
