    Beschreibung: The separative logic is not educational. The essay reviews the historical events that have generated an undervaluation of vocational training pathways compared to education pathways. This "minority" of perception and legislation stems from a logic of separation with many faces which, taken all together, with etiological spirit and historical-ordinamental contextualization, explain the "untenable" inferiority of vocational education: people (the 'inferiors') and political-bureaucratic elite (the 'superiors'), nature and culture, man and citizen, etc. These separations concerned the idea of labor (one among them, the opposition between 'manual labor' and 'intellectual labor') and did not allow for increasing the educational power of it. Only a logic of integration (embedded and embodied) can defuse the ideas of separation and provide an organic and holistic image of education.

    Beschreibung: The paper draws from Sergio Caruso’s reflections that the ‘extension’ and ‘intensification’ of citizenship are inseparable from democracy. Within this framework, it questions how innovative formulations of democracy such as so-called ‘deliberative arenas’ can contribute to the strengthening of citizenship. Specific attention is devoted to the public debate on major works, a privileged field of inquiry for some assessments of the effectiveness of participation guaranteed by such instruments.

    Beschreibung: The aim of this essay is to assess how the debate on the Great Depression of 1929 changed Italian economic culture in the transition from Fascism to the Republic. The essay is divided into three paragraphs. In the first, we will look at the international debate dominated by the dispute between Hayek and Keynes and by Röpke’s synthesis. In the second, we will analyse the debate in Italy, which is characterised by the convergent synthesis proposed by Bresciani Turroni, Einaudi and Fanno. The last section will outline the economic policy choices of the Fascist regime and the legacy of the debate on the great crisis in the period of post-war reconstruction

    Beschreibung: The book collects the contributions of a group of scholars, with different scientific backgrounds, on the issue of the relationship between taxation, solidarity and citizenship within the EU. The common thread linking them is the inescapability of the tax duty in a community of rights and the incompleteness of the European system, which performs important functions of collective interest without claiming any cost for those who use it. What emerges is the need for a genuine EU own tax, which, without the intermediary of the Member States, would burden the users of European public goods, increasing awareness of the social value of the EU, amplifying its solidarity dimension, and outlining a new concept of citizenship. In short, I pay, therefore I am (European citizen).

    Beschreibung: The fifteenth century is the century of hospital reforms, started in numerous Italian cities in order to overcome the inadequacies of traditional charitable practices of the Middle Ages and to face the social and health emergencies of that period with the help of different tools. Vicenza also participated in the reform process, restructuring the organisation of its care network, especially thanks to the intervention of the urban patriciate, which ruled the government of the major hospitals according to "managerial" criteria. In the fifteenth century the search for the bonum commune (common good) thus found expression in a new and rational way of understanding, financing and dispensing charity, conversing with public and private actors of the urban scene: a new but not so revolutionary way, in which ancient and recent feelings converged, such as Christian pietas, civic religiosity and protection of the social class’ status quo.

    Beschreibung: The essay traces back the maturation of eco-territorialism starting from the late 1970s ‘rediscovery’ of the territory, coinciding with the crisis of the Fordist model, the rise of the diffuse factory and the beginning of globalisation processes. In the evolutions and involutions of such scenario up to the recent pandemic and the Russian-Ukrainian war, the advocates of eco-territorialism find reasons to challenge the unlimited urbanisation of space; to frame the question of dwelling as an unavoidable ethical-political problem; to overcome the reductionism of those who read the ecological crisis as a mere climate change or energy issue; to problematise and radically redefine the ideas of development and planning, reconnecting them to the self-sustainable reconstruction of material and immaterial relations between the inhabitants and the anthropic, ecosystem and bioregional complexity of places.

L’esperienza nasce dalla volontà di progettare e condividere un percorso di realizzazione di programmi di formazione sulla cittadinanza attiva e partecipata, oltre che sulla prevenzione e sul superamento di tutte le forme di discriminazione e di intolleranza, tramite l’utilizzo di metodologie che possano essere trasversalmente contestualizzate all’interno della formazione scolastica, di quella universitaria e della formazione delle professionalità educative e sociali in generale. L’approccio di ricerca-azione e l’asse Associazioni-Scuola-Università si ritrova nell’ossatura dell’intero volume che, ad una prima parte di orientamento teorico in cui ci si sofferma sugli elementi cardine del nostro discorso pedagogico (intercultura, integrazione, narrazione), fa seguire altre tre sezioni a carattere operativo-metodologico descritte da tutti gli attori protagonisti del progetto.

    Beschreibung: This chapter focuses on Obrazy Italii, the best known work by Pavel Muratov, a Russian writer, journalist, critic and art historian. This work is a diary recounting the journey to Italy of the author at the beginning of the twentieth century; nowadays it is considered a classic text that provides a testimony on the way Italian art was perceived in Russia. Though it is well-known in Russia, this work has only recently received some attention in Italy following its recent translation. This chapter contains detailed and original analyses that compare Muratov’s translations with those found in Russian dictionaries written in the same period. These concern a selection of lemmas in art and architecture and the names of artists. This chapter shows that the language employed in this work cannot be defined as either specialised or standard, but as a mixture between the two.

    Beschreibung: The volume illustrates the research activity of the UniCeSV Analytical Accounting Observatory presented during the seminar on: La contabilità analitica per il controllo della gestione nel settore vitivinicolo (“Analytical accounting for management control in the wine industry”) which was held in Florence on December 3, 2014. On this occasion, some of the studies which UniCeSV has been carrying out in this field in the last years have been presented. During the seminar some results were presented, related to a a sample survey carried out in companies belonging to the denominations Chianti Classico DOCG, Brunello di Montalcino DOCG, Morellino di Scansano DOCG and Monteregio di Massa Marittima DOC. These results have allowed to evaluate the production cost of the single bottle of wine and to determine the standard cost of some reference company typologies.

    Beschreibung: Discipline processuali differenziate nei diritti amministrativi europei. Anyone in Europe who considers that they have suffered an abuse of power on the part of a public body can apply to a judge for justice. But this role is not restricted to a single judge. Not only is there a plurality of judges corresponding to the plurality of States in which they exercise their functions, but also (in the majority of cases) within each State there is more than one type of judge appointed to impose respect of the law even on public bodies, just as the procedures and manner in which the judicial action may materialise are also different. The protection of the citizens is differentiated, and this can be explained by the varying requirements or the different motivations which cannot always justify the deriving complications. The book explores this phenomenon, considering some of the principal European State systems, as well as the system of the European Union itself.

    Beschreibung: Sexual harassment is a complex behaviour, characterized by several dimensions and definitions, as shown by the literature. In an online context, it is important to fully understand its nature, characteristics and consequences as well as how it may affect adolescents. This work aims to systematize the information available in the literature, by describing the main characteristics of the phenomenon, and trying to provide a definition. The research, which was conducted on four databases in November 2021, led to the identification of 20958 works. After removing the duplicates, and analyzing the abstracts and full-texts, a final number of 65 works were included, which were read in full-text and analysed. As for the studies collected, the type of relationship between the aggressor and the victim is described, alongside a description of the behaviors classified as online sexual harassment. Online sexual harassment can manifest itself in three main typologies (verbal, visual, cybersexual). Within these typologies, it is possible to identify three prevalent behaviours: unwanted solicitation, non-consensual sexting, and sharing of intimate and/or private content with third parties without the victim’s consent.

    Beschreibung: The ISMU annual Report on migration enters its 27th edition in 2022. Over time, the Report has become a useful reference for people working on migration, both within and outside Italy. This edition analyzes both the impact of the pandemic on migration flows and immigrants and the consequences of the Afghan crisis on migration. As the health emergency subsided in the second half of 2021, public interest on migration resurfaced along with the challenges that migration poses to Italy and the European Union. In addition to the traditional areas of interest (health, work, education, and the legal framework) and to statistical aspects (ISMU estimates that 5,576,000 foreigners live permanently in Italy as of 1st January 2021), the 27th edition of the Report devotes particular attention to the attitudes and orientations of Italian people towards migration, as well as to the experience of migrant women in terms of discrimination and positive valorization. The volume contains in-depth studies on refugees and humanitarian action, on how migration affected local elections, on alternatives to detention, and on foster care for unaccompanied foreign minors. Finally, special attention is devoted to Europe – especially to new directions in EU migration policy after Merkel – and the world – especially bilateral political initiatives involving African countries.

Starting from a personal narrative based on his own reminiscences and neglected memories, the author tries to shed light on the relationships between civil commitment and cultural reflection which characterize environmental sensitivity, bringing together his interests with Quaini’s emotional geographies. Finally, some of Quaini’s everyday practicalities are highlighted as the easiest doorway to improve the cognitive procedures of cultural geography.

    Beschreibung: The book traces the main stages of third mission and social impact assessment, in the context of the (recent) history of higher education and research assessment in Italy, starting with a review of the transformation of the relationship between the University and the society. Several social drives are leading the university to a series of transformations, at the national, European and international level. The requirement to use transparency criteria and the associated returns of research spending (in accountability) has become a fundamental issue in informing government, business, citizens and society on the achieved results. The introduction of social impact assessment frameworks is also advancing research agendas towards socially relevant domains, to provide solutions in international competitiveness, social welfare, sustainability and other grand challenges. A terminological and conceptual shift is occurring from a traditional concept of technology transfer and third mission towards a broader meaning of knowledge exchange and co-creation between universities and extra-academic actors and the impact generated. However, this shift towards a transdisciplinary, trans-epistemic and inclusive evaluation framework poses new challenges to capture this complexity, requiring the adoption of new methods and tools presented in this book. The international literature and debate on practices are vital combined with trial-and-error approaches, community involvement, and targeted pilot studies. Beyond controversies, resistances, and easily contrived enthusiasms, this is what this volume tries to investigate.

    Beschreibung: The 43rd UID conference, held in Genova, takes up the theme of ‘Dialogues’ as practice and debate on many fundamental topics in our social life, especially in these complex and not yet resolved times. The city of Genova offers the opportunity to ponder on the value of comparison and on the possibilities for the community, naturally focused on the aspects that concern us, as professors, researchers, disseminators of knowledge, or on all the possibile meanings of the discipline of representation and its dialogue with ‘others’, which we have broadly catalogued in three macro areas: History, Semiotics, Science / Technology. Therefore, “dialogue” as a profitable exchange based on a common language, without which it is impossible to comprehend and understand one another; and the graphic sign that connotes the conference is the precise transcription of this concept: the title ‘translated’ into signs, derived from the visual alphabet designed for the visual identity of the UID since 2017.     Beschreibung: The exhibition at Villa La Quiete focuses on three important Renaissance sculptures, which had never been exposed to the public before. On this occasion, the works were carefully restored, continuing on the path of the previous restauration of the Villa’s artistic heritage at the hands of the University of Florence; the new restoration was supported by the Terna group, whose liberal donation helped restore one of the works on display, namely the beautiful in stucco Madonna with Child from Lorenzo Ghiberti’s workshop. This work comes with a rare terracotta piece of a Madonna with Child, by one of Donatello’s followers, and a Christ, the Saviour, in painted terracotta as well, made by the artist Agnolo di Polo, who trained in Andrea Verrocchio’s workshop. The three sculptures are a part of the oldest core of the Villa's collections, and represent a relevant example of the refined production of the multifaceted workshops of the Renaissance in Florence.

Presentando le principali teorie sociologiche che si sono occupate di questi due temi, e delle loro odierne manifestazioni, l’autrice propone una ricerca, condotta tra il 2015 e il 2018 in due campus degli Stati Uniti, con l’obiettivo di comprendere in che misura la condivisione di informazioni, relative a eventi criminali, mediante canali tecnologici (e-mail e social network), possa avere un impatto sulla percezione del rischio, sulla sorveglianza delle attività svolte nel campus e sulla modifica dei comportamenti degli studenti. L’invio delle notifiche è preceduto da un processo di selezione interna in cui viene deciso cosa comunicare o meno agli studenti. Sulla base di evidenze e argomentazioni, è emerso che non viene mai fatta menzione di alcuni reati – tra cui la violenza sessuale – nonostante siano i più diffusi all’interno dei campus americani.

    Beschreibung: The volume, dedicated to the 44th International Conference of the Italian Union for Drawing, investigates the theme of ‘Transitions’, which particularly effectively represents our time and the current condition of the discipline of Drawing. The term, beyond its generic meaning of an intermediate stage in a process in which a condition changes from one state to another, has always been used in various fields, from music to geophysics. In fact, the disciplines of drawing have always been confronted with themes and issues relating to transitions from one condition to another. The history of representation tells us of transformations, even epochal ones, relating to ‘drawing’, with all that such transitions entail: suffice it to think of the evolution of forms of representation, of instrumental apparatuses, of the mutability of supports, of the analogical-digital transition underway, of the new modes of communication on platforms, of the hypertrophic offer of images also on the net that confirms Guy Debord’s intuitions relating to the new spectacularisation of society. Similarly, representation triggers transitions in the prefiguration and communication of design, the anticipation and foreshadowing of future events.The challenges posed by the digital pose open questions whose scope can only be glimpsed, such as the relationship between drawing and the act of modelling, and the construction of new paradigms of visual language and communication. ‘Transitions’, almost implicitly, points to possible futures, the evolution of technique and the search for new modes of expression; at the same time, however, it can suggest silences and reflections in a process of connection between history, theory, criticism and construction.

    Beschreibung: This paper focuses on the analysis of Moscovia, written by Antonio Possevino soon after his diplomatic mission (1581-1582) to the Tsar Ivan IV. The text, composed as a geographical and ethnographical description of a given territory, became a collection of theological and controversial writings on the topic of the eastern Greek and Muscovite schism during its 40 years of editorial history. A deeper analysis of some political aspects of the text, though, shows how these different parameters were somehow inextricably connected within the catholic vision of the ‘orthodox’ East.

Her analysis, focused on China, cannot be separated from an understanding of the reality in which it must be applied, from the knowledge of the legal class, the relations between the powers of the state and the history of the Communist Party. The purpose of this work is therefore to define the independence and professionalism of the Chinese judge at a regulatory level, framing the two concepts in a historical context and with comparisons with Western dynamics in order to recover the ultimate purpose of the judicial function: the impartiality of the decision.

    Beschreibung: The 43rd UID conference, held in Genova, takes up the theme of ‘Dialogues’ as practice and debate on many fundamental topics in our social life, especially in these complex and not yet resolved times. The city of Genova offers the opportunity to ponder on the value of comparison and on the possibilities for the community, naturally focused on the aspects that concern us, as professors, researchers, disseminators of knowledge, or on all the possibile meanings of the discipline of representation and its dialogue with ‘others’, which we have broadly catalogued in three macro areas: History, Semiotics, Science / Technology. Therefore, “dialogue” as a profitable exchange based on a common language, without which it is impossible to comprehend and understand one another; and the graphic sign that connotes the conference is the precise transcription of this concept: the title ‘translated’ into signs, derived from the visual alphabet designed for the visual identity of the UID since 2017. There are many topics which refer to three macro sessions: - Witnessing (signs and history) - Communicating (signs and semiotics) - Experimenting (signs and sciences) Thanks to the different points of view, an exceptional resource of our disciplinary area, we want to try to outline the prevailing theoretical-operational synergies, the collaborative lines of an instrumental nature, the recent updates of the repertoires of images that attest and nourish the relations among representation, history, semiotics, sciences.

His fame continues to be linked primarily with the scientific expeditions to south-east Asia, and Borneo in particular, and his work on Palms, as well as his skill as a draughtsman and photographer. The material conserved in his personal archive is of fundamental importance for a reconstruction, not only of the his scientific career but also of his private life. This inventory finally provides us with the key to find our way around a very significant body of documents ranging from correspondence, notes and preparatory materials to manuscript drafts, travel journals, map sketches, drawings and photographs.

    Beschreibung: In this book, Francesca Nencioni uses semantics to reconstruct, with skill and intelligence, the 'characters' and 'specimens' of the Hermetic prose (Parronchi, I giorni sensibili; Luzi, Biografia e Ebe; Bigongiari, La donna miriade; Gatto, La sposa bambina), proposing a new way of reading the works which marked the early Hermetic period in Florence. Using stylistic tools, analysis of language, rhythm and melody, and a comparative perspective shifting continuously among the genres, the author gives new semantics to the category of absence (through female metamorphosis, transience and death), and explores the coordinates of time (the hours of day, the movements of stars and planets, the alternation of seasons) and space (the four elements, the beloved places and the real landscapes), then combines synchronic investigation with an excursus on the study of semantic variables in the two editions of Biografia e Ebe and La sposa bambina.

Capitalism has superseded the systems based on rent and privileges, has freed up enterprise, brought in competition, set merit above corporative relations and patronage; has created a steady increase in wealth. The process has generated the development of the middle classes, a critical culture civil rights and democracy. However, the pursuit of profit has always tended to op-press the weaker categories and rob the less advanced economies. These two contrary trends cannot coexist indefinitely. Today the essential clash is between welfare for all and neoliberalism, based on increasing inequalities, rising financial rents and the exploitation of workers.

    Beschreibung: Enrico Fermi, Nobel Prize for Physics in 1938, taught at the Royal University of Florence. Fermi's stay in Florence was short and only lasted two academic years (1924/25 and 1925/26); during those years, he taught "Mathematical Physics" and "Rational Mechanics” courses. This volume contributes to the reconstruction of this quite unknown period of Fermi's life, marked however by the publication of the Fermi statistics, a scientific breakthrough which would bring the Italian scientist to international celebrity thanks to its application in several fields of physics. This work is at the base, among other things, of semiconductor physics and therefore of modern electronics. The text also features Enrico Fermi’s "Lessons of Rational Mechanics” to Science students and to students from the two-year preparatory course for Engineering studies during the aforementioned time span. The topics Enrico Fermi addressed in his lectures include kinematics and point dynamics, kinematics and statics of rigid systems and system statics in general. Lastly, the lessons contain 'Lagrangia’’s equations and some elements of hydromechanics.

    Beschreibung: This research offers an integral analysis of the aesthetic thought of the director, playwright and art theorist Nikolaj Nikolaevic Evreinov. The work focuses on the analysis of the treaty The revelation of art, written in Paris in the 1930s, which represents the greatest testimony of the author's research in the aesthetic field. Henceforth, a connection is offered between the known aspects of Evreinov's theatrical thought, relating to the period of the avant-garde in Russia, and others, of a broader nature, which have long been precluded from being known. Through insights on the Russian theatrical history of the early 20th century, reflections touching textual criticism, the history of aesthetic thought and Russian criticism, the complex figure of an artist emerges against the background of the culture expressed by post-revolutionary Russian emigration. An artist who, as an intellectual, begins a dialogue with the Western European cultural tradition. This book thus intends to restore the visibility, as well as an exegetical and historiographic completeness, of Evreinov’s rich legacy as a writer, a philosopher and a critic.

    Beschreibung: Chromium, in its hexavalent form [Cr(VI)], is a dangerous environmental pollutant. Bioremediation, which exploits the capacity of microorganisms to reduce Cr(VI) to Cr(III), is an interesting alternative to chemical-physical technologies for the rehabilitation of soil contaminated by Cr(VI). This study has made it possible to obtain a profound phenotypical characterisation of a number of bacterial strains capable of reducing and resisting Cr(VI), making it possible to identify various candidates that could potentially be employed in bioremediation. Moreover, a new gene involved in resistance to Cr(VI) has also been identified, the primary function of which consists in the induction of the cellular response to sulphur starvation. The study of this gene has highlighted that the sulphur content of the soils is one of the parameters that can influence the bioremediation of soils contaminated with Cr(VI).

    Beschreibung: The aim of this research is to demonstrate the convergences between the rhymes of Dante's Commedia and Boccaccio's Caccia di Diana. The analysis developed on the rhymes has allowed us to understand that Boccaccio's work presents 44.6% of rhymes derived from the Comedia. The author, however, does not only retrieve rhymes from Dante, but he also uses contexts, images and syntagmas present in the three canticles. Caccia di Diana is the first work in tercets after the Commedia and the vulgarization of De Consolatione Philosophiae executed by Alberto Della Piagentina, so it is extremely interesting to note how the young Boccaccio approaches the Dantean model to begin composing in verse.

Throughout history, architects have generally viewed their field as a craft informed by the human body, a creative sense of play, and technical science. Theory in the second half of the 20 th century departed from this direction by reducing art to the visual and semiotic understanding of form. The remarkable discoveries of the biological sciences in recent decades have opened an entirely new perspective for designers, based on our profound insights into human soci-ality, empathy, emotion, mirror systems, and design’s inherent powers of “tactility and kinesis.” The dictum “know thyself,” once inscribed in stone at the entrance of the Temple of Apollo at Delphi, in many ways holds the key to locating the missing ‘art’ of design.

    Beschreibung: Vasyl’ Stus's (1938-1985) poetry is one of the richest and most complex chapters in the literary history of late Soviet Ukraine. His poems are not only born of the author’s talent, but also of his erudition and deep cultural awareness; Stus’s poetry eloquently shows the presence of a significant Modernist trend in the literature of the Ukrainian underground during the Age of Economic stagnation. Stus's Modernism is the ideal evolution of the Ukrainian poetic culture of the first decades of the century, and develops thanks to an intense intertextual dialogue with the European literature. Stus’s reception of Russian and German poetry, in addition to becoming the model for nineteenth-century and early-twentieth-century Ukrainian poetry, proves fundamental to fully understand his work’s literary palimpsest, which this volume offers a comprehensive reading of, from the early stages to the maturity’s collections.

    Beschreibung: The volume, dedicated to the 44th International Conference of the Italian Union for Drawing, investigates the theme of ‘Transitions’, which particularly effectively represents our time and the current condition of the discipline of Drawing. The term, beyond its generic meaning of an intermediate stage in a process in which a condition changes from one state to another, has always been used in various fields, from music to geophysics. In fact, the disciplines of drawing have always been confronted with themes and issues relating to transitions from one condition to another. The history of representation tells us of transformations, even epochal ones, relating to ‘drawing’, with all that such transitions entail: suffice it to think of the evolution of forms of representation, of instrumental apparatuses, of the mutability of supports, of the analogical-digital transition underway, of the new modes of communication on platforms, of the hypertrophic offer of images also on the net that confirms Guy Debord’s intuitions relating to the new spectacularisation of society. Similarly, representation triggers transitions in the prefiguration and communication of design, the anticipation and foreshadowing of future events.The challenges posed by the digital pose open questions whose scope can only be glimpsed, such as the relationship between drawing and the act of modelling, and the construction of new paradigms of visual language and communication. ‘Transitions’, almost implicitly, points to possible futures, the evolution of technique and the search for new modes of expression; at the same time, however, it can suggest silences and reflections in a process of connection between history, theory, criticism and construction.

    Beschreibung: Climate change and the need to reduce energy consumption in buildings are key topics in the political, scientific, economic and cultural debate. Since the academic year, 2010-2011, we wanted to make a debate and also our contribution with the first edition of the Master in Materials and Innovative Techniques for Sustainable Construction (MeTIES) University of Palermo together with the University Consortium for the University of Western Sicily and the Mediterranean Basin (UNISOM). The main objective of this Master is to form a professional generation who knows how to master new technologies and to rethink the way to "build". All the students of the master, in different editions, have had the opportunity to improve skills acquired during the course in workplace. The aim was to contribute to the debate on possible ways to pursue sustainable development through the training of "operators" who have the ability to identify, develop and propose possible and concrete solutions for the energy efficiency of buildings. The book contains some solutions to the needs of a sector that will be increasingly at the center of the economic and political choices of the coming decades.

    Beschreibung: The Spanish civil war is considered a key point of analysis of the first half of the 1900s because of the peculiar context in which it developed, the ideologies that provoked it and for the controversies that still accompany it. An event of this magnitude has had and continues to have a great resonance in literature; this essay compares two authors at the antipodes, which well summarize the socio-political debate that accompanies the theme: José María Gironella, author close to the regime, and Juan Benet, hermetic writer. The contrast between the motivations and objectives of the two writers is accompanied by incompatible narrative choices. With memory as both a judge and a defendant, the authors open two different paths of communication with the reader: from history to man, from man to history.

    Beschreibung: Dositej Obradović’s Život i priključenija is generally considered the symbolic herald of modern Serbian literature, a paradigmatic text which affected many later writers, including Gerasim Zelić. The paper compares Dositej’s work and Zelić’s Žitije focusing on three levels: firstly, it tracks the common topoi and the distinctive characteristics of the two texts; secondly, it discusses the ways in which Zelić reinterprets Dositej’s model, especially with respect to autobiography and travelogue; finally, it elaborates on the different yet cognate notion of authorship the two texts propose.

The common thread binding the papers together is the research method based on the study of archival sources and historical contexts, and on the connoisseurship. The volume gathers art historians who had been involved in the conference held in 2016 in honor of Mara Visonà as well as other scholars educated at the University of Florence.

    Beschreibung: In 1870 Rome was conquered without military resistance by the young Italian State, causing the Pope to react by organizing “the Catholic opposition” to the State (which lasted until 1929); it was modified in 1919 when Don Luigi Sturzo founded the “Italian Popular Party”, which was independent from the Church and immediately antifascist. The Pope exiled Don Sturzo, and the Catholic world split into the anti-fascist Popular Party and a prevailing party of clerical-fascist leaning. With the rise of the fascist dictatorship in 1926 the popular experience came to an end. In the fight for liberation, De Gasperi stands out as a figure who would lead, together with the Christian Democracy, the birth of the new republican democracy.

    Beschreibung: Focusing on the history of scientific and technological development over recent centuries, the book is dedicated to the history of telecommunications, where Italy has always been in the vanguard, and is presented by many of the protagonists of the last half century. The book is divided into five sections. The first, dealing with the origins, starts from the scientific bases of the evolution of telecommunications in the nineteenth century (Bucci), addressing the developments of scientific thought that led to the revolution of the theory of fields (Morando), analysing the birth of the three fundamental forms of communication – telegraph (Maggi), telephone (Del Re) and radio (Falciasecca) – and ending with the contribution made by the Italian Navy to the development of telecommunications (Carulli, Pelosi, Selleri, Tiberio). The second section, on technical and scientific developments, presents the numerical processing of signals (Rocca), illustrating the genesis and metamorphosis of transmission (Pupolin, Benedetto, Mengali, Someda, Vannucchi), network packets (Marsan, Guadagni, Lenzini), photonics in telecommunications (Prati) and addresses the issue of research within the institutions (Fedi-Morello), dwelling in particular on the CSELT (Mossotto). The next section deals with the sectors of application, offering an overview of radio, television and the birth of digital cinema (Vannucchi, Visintin), military communications (Maestrini, Costamagna), the development of radar (Galati) and spatial telecommunications (Tartara, Marconicchio). Section four, on the organisation of the services and the role of industry, outlines the rise and fall of the telecommunications industries in Italy (Randi), dealing with the telecommunications infrastructures (Caroppo, Gamerro), the role of the providers in national communications (Gerarduzzi), the networks and the mobile and wireless services (Falciasecca, Ongaro) and finally taking a look towards the future from the perspective of the last fifty years (Vannucchi). The last section, dealing with training and dissemination, offers an array of food for thought: university training in telecommunications, with focus on the evolution of legislation and on the professional profiles (Roveri), social and cultural aspects (Longo and Crespellani) as well as a glance over the most important museums, collections and documentary sources for telecommunications in Italy (Lucci, Savini, Temporelli, Valotti).     Beschreibung: This volume contains Italian contributions to the XV Slavists’ International Congress (Minsk, 20-27 August 2013). In the wake of the best Italian Slavic tradition, the lecturers present a wide range of themes in different languages, ranging from the Cyril-Methodian question to the critical reflection on contemporary authors. Despite the diversity of disciplinary and methodological approaches - from paleography to textual analysis, from literary comparative studies to sociolinguistics - these contributions show that Italian Slavistic studies maintains their roots, critically developing previous studies and opening up new perspectives for research, while a new generation of scholars is born. As in the past, Italian studies on Slavistics are playing a significant role not only in Italy's cultural relations with the Slavic countries, but more generally on the perspective of a vast and complex process of integration of the various European cultures, which goes further beyond the borders of the European Union; a process in which the Slavic world, with its variety of languages and cultures, is one of the main actors.

    Beschreibung: The study aims to analyze and quantify compositions of marine litter along 2 beaches of Asinara Island-Italy during 3 surveys (winter’17, spring-summer‘19). Method used was based on guidelines of UNEP, JRC and DEFISHGEAR project. Preliminary results show that 1917 items were collected at Cala dei Ponzesi, while 816 were identified in 2019 surveys. 289 items were collected in 2 2019 surveys at Cala Spalmatore. It appears that plastic is the most important category of litter and plastic fragments, lolly sticks, plastic caps/lids unidentified, string and cord (〈1 cm) are the most frequent debris

    Beschreibung: The paper studies the editorial practice of Boccaccio in his copies of Dante’s Vita Nuova, through a textual comparison between the two preserved transcriptions and the ones that are only hypothetically referable to his work, thanks to an examination of the varia lectio. What emerged for Vita Nuova from a new comprehensive collatio of the most important witnesses of Boccaccio’s manuscript tradition, put together with what is known about the other Dante’s works copied by Boccaccio himself (lyrics and Commedia), seem to converge in the hypothesis, already suggested by Michele Barbi, that around the interpositus b3 it is quite recognizable a third “authorial edition”, originally conceived like the other two, and perhaps currently surviving in the manuscript Riccardiano 1035.

The city of Genova offers the opportunity to ponder on the value of comparison and on the possibilities for the community, naturally focused on the aspects that concern us, as professors, researchers, disseminators of knowledge, or on all the possibile meanings of the discipline of representation and its dialogue with ‘others’, which we have broadly catalogued in three macro areas: History, Semiotics, Science / Technology. Therefore, “dialogue” as a profitable exchange based on a common language, without which it is impossible to comprehend and understand one another; and the graphic sign that connotes the conference is the precise transcription of this concept: the title ‘translated’ into signs, derived from the visual alphabet designed for the visual identity of the UID since 2017. There are many topics which refer to three macro sessions: - Witnessing (signs and history) - Communicating (signs and semiotics) - Experimenting (signs and sciences) Thanks to the different points of view, an exceptional resource of our disciplinary area, we want to try to outline the prevailing theoretical-operational synergies, the collaborative lines of an instrumental nature, the recent updates of the repertoires of images that attest and nourish the relations among representation, history, semiotics, sciences.

    Beschreibung: This volume presents the recovery, cataloging, and valorization project of the collection donated by the Holy Roman Emperor Joseph II (1741-1790) to the Mineralogical Cabinet of the Collegio Nazareno in Rome in 1785. This donation represents, so far, the only geo-mineralogical collection belonging to Joseph II with certainty. The specimen cataloging records, drawn according to the ICCD national catalographic standards for the mineralogical (BNM) and petrographic (BNPE) heritage, are freely available on the Catalogo Generale dei Beni Culturali website. The collection is open to visitors in its permanent exhibition at the Istituto San Giuseppe Calasanzio in Rome. This volume has been realized within the project PANN20.00605 “Dono imperiale. La collezione mineralogica dell’Imperatore Giuseppe II al Collegio Nazareno di Roma” thanks to the financial support of the Italian Ministry of University and Research, Annual Grant – Legge 6/2000 – D.D. 1524 of 21/01/2019.

    Beschreibung: The volume aims at offering an overview of the studies on the flâneur. It consists of three parts and an appendix. The first part defines the figure of the flâneur. In particular, the flâneur’s characteristics are first analysed with respect to a series of oxymorons, to then be declined in relation to some themes, namely: the flâneur’s slowness as a combined expression of body and mind, the moods of living one's condition, the birth of the flâneuse, the relationship between the flâneur and other figures at opposite ends of the social ladder, the love and hate between the flâneur and tourists, the constraints imposed on the flâneur in the society of control and, finally, flânerie as a lifestyle. In the second part, the focus shifts to urban places as privileged contexts of action and reflection for the flâneur. In particular, the discussed topics are the “genius loci”, the possibility of analysing places through the forms of reverie which undermine the recurrent images marked by accredited methodologies, and finally the inevitably individual in-depth study paths leading to flânerie, which require a more direct contribution than the one given by subjects who practice it. Specific attention is paid to flânerie as the inspection carried out by architects and urban planners, with the additional aim of designing the urban territory for the involvement of the entire community. The third part is dedicated to an illustration of the various ways a flânerie can be achieved. Various types of flânerie are identified and described: from the free itinerant one, to the shadowing and the observation from a fixed place. In this part, there are also some reflections regarding the relationship between flâneur, houses and objects, as well as some final considerations on the development prospects of research on the flâneur himself. Finally, in the appendix, there is a discussion on the protocol in use to create some flâneries with students from different departments and from different Italian universities, followed by some concrete examples of flânerie in compliance with the definition given in the third part.

    Beschreibung: The San Samuele theatre company from Venice constitutes a perfect example of the extraordinary vitality of the early-eighteenth-century troupes, before the success of Carlo Goldoni’s dramaturgy. Reconstructing the chronology of the training activity led by the theatre company manager Giuseppe Imer makes it possible to observe the extraordinary versatility of the actors from the Commedia dell’Arte, and the breadth of a repertoire which, between 1726 and 1749, spaced from dramas to musical interludes, passing through the “canovacci” of the commedia all’improvviso and tragedies. Thanks to unpublished documents and to a critical analysis of the repertoires, the author appoints the actors as the main protagonists of the spectacular Venetian scene, and offers important updates on the migrations of troupes in the second quarter of the 18th century.

    Beschreibung: The volume, dedicated to the 44th International Conference of the Italian Union for Drawing, investigates the theme of ‘Transitions’, which particularly effectively represents our time and the current condition of the discipline of Drawing. The term, beyond its generic meaning of an intermediate stage in a process in which a condition changes from one state to another, has always been used in various fields, from music to geophysics. In fact, the disciplines of drawing have always been confronted with themes and issues relating to transitions from one condition to another. The history of representation tells us of transformations, even epochal ones, relating to ‘drawing’, with all that such transitions entail: suffice it to think of the evolution of forms of representation, of instrumental apparatuses, of the mutability of supports, of the analogical-digital transition underway, of the new modes of communication on platforms, of the hypertrophic offer of images also on the net that confirms Guy Debord’s intuitions relating to the new spectacularisation of society. Similarly, representation triggers transitions in the prefiguration and communication of design, the anticipation and foreshadowing of future events.The challenges posed by the digital pose open questions whose scope can only be glimpsed, such as the relationship between drawing and the act of modelling, and the construction of new paradigms of visual language and communication. ‘Transitions’, almost implicitly, points to possible futures, the evolution of technique and the search for new modes of expression; at the same time, however, it can suggest silences and reflections in a process of connection between history, theory, criticism and construction.

    Beschreibung: Although Boccaccio’s name is rarely encountered in published works of Giovanni Pascoli (1855-1912), traces of a constant reading and reuse of the Decameron have emerged and continue to emerge from the poet’s manuscripts. The article outlines the history of the already known contacts between the two authors and adds a new document: the unknown verse drama ‘Messer Gentile’, inspired by the novella X 4. This drama, designed as a one-act play with a prologue and three scenes, has been left unfinished: only the prologue and the first scene are preserved, but it is enough to appreciate some dynamics that characterize the rewriting process. A dense network of references to the most ancient Italian poetic tradition emerges from the dramatic lines, and among the manuscripts one discovers an experimental rhythmic prose composed of hendecasyllables arranged in a line that the study reconnects to the reform of modern tragic theater envisaged by Pascoli. Sebbene il nome di Boccaccio si incontri molto raramente nell'opera di Giovanni Pascoli (1855-1912), dai manoscritti del poeta sono emerse e continuano a emergere tracce di una lettura costante del Decameron. Il contributo ripercorre la storia dei contatti già noti tra i due autori e aggiunge un nuovo documento: l'inedito dramma in versi 'Messer Gentile' ispirato alla novella X 4. Il dramma, progettatto come atto unico con prologo e tre scene, rimase incompiuto: ci sono giunti soltanto il prologo e la prima scena, che sono sufficienti per apprezzare alcune delle dinamiche che caratterizzano la riscrittura. Dai versi emerge una fitta rete di riferimente alla tradizione poetica italiana delle origini e tra i manoscritti si ritrova un esperimento di prosa modulata sul ritmo continuato degli endecasillabi riconducibile all'idea di moderno teatro tragico di Pascoli.

The alternate influence of the two during the long government of Mussolini, Rocco first and then Beneduce, is to be carefully considered as one of the main events of the Italian history under the Fascist regime

The growing interest is perceivable in many fields of knowledge, supported by the rapid development and advancement of theory and application, software and devices, fueling a pervasive phenomenon within our daily lives. These technologies demonstrate to be best exploited when their application and other information and communication technology (ICT) advancements achieve a continuum. In particular, AR defines an alternative path to observe, analyze and communicate space and artifacts. Besides, AI opens future scenarios in data processing, redefining the relationship between man and computer. In the last few years, the AR/AI expansion and relationship have raised deep transdisciplinary speculation. The research experiences have shown many cross-relations in Architecture and Design domains. Representation studies could arise an international debate as a convergence place of multidisciplinary theoretical and applicative contributions related to architecture, city, environment, tangible and intangible Cultural Heritage. This book collects 66 papers and identify eight lines of research that may guide future developments.

In addition, in their space, we find our ability to give word to their presence and ours. Clothes possess the particular ability of taking us into the world scene with our body, of getting us out of a condition of disappearance, subtraction or naked intimacy. This text recovers the poetic sense of our bonds with an original feeling that lies in the experience of the body, its symbolic values, the strength and voice of our bonds with the garments and the fabrics of the world. Clothes, from everyday objects, become world again when we learn to glimpse in them the chance of recognizing ourselves, of awakening their history and ours, of retracing and interweaving those subtle threads that allow us to speak the language of belongings. The voices in this plural text are placed within a large and durable research facility that is part of a philosophical approach to the experience aesthetics and the poetic-metaphorical aspect of existence. This book is aimed at those who have already tried or want to try to subtract things from their apparent silence, going through new educational sentences, aimed at the history of ourselves as well as the history of others, going through an everyday life pedagogy that can’t wait to have a voice, in order to create horizons of meaning that dress up and dress us up with intimacy when we realize that we know how to give - and live - new space to what is next, so close that it becomes - sometimes - invisible.

    Beschreibung: Let's try to imagine a world where scientific illiteracy is the exception rather than the rule. That is a world of subjects who are, in the vast majority, informed and aware of the main ongoing scientific debates, and who are capable of critically and independently thinking about them. A world in which everyone could dispose of the resources to develop a thoughtful opinion on cloning techniques, genetically modified organisms, new anti-cancer therapies or even on the origin of life on Earth and the final destiny of the universe. If this world were possible, what would it look like? The scepticism about the feasibility of such a scenario is justified, however it is equally undeniable that during the twentieth century there have been such profound transformations in the relationship between science and public opinion as to make the question at least legitimate and worthy of an answer.

    Beschreibung: In 1865, there was the enactment of the laws of administrative unification for the Kingdom of Italy. On the occasion of the 150th anniversary, the Department of Legal Sciences of the University of Florence organized a study project on the transformations which over the last fifty years have affected the Italian Republic’s administrative apparatus and activities. They analysed in its articulated local government and its EU membership. Over nearly two years, the researches have involved more than one hundred and fifty scholars from Italian universities. The results were presented on 15th and 16th October 2015 in Florence, the Italian capital city a hundred and fifty years before, which in 1965 had hosted the conference celebrating the 100th anniversary of the same administrative unification laws.     Beschreibung: The volume, dedicated to the 44th International Conference of the Italian Union for Drawing, investigates the theme of ‘Transitions’, which particularly effectively represents our time and the current condition of the discipline of Drawing. The term, beyond its generic meaning of an intermediate stage in a process in which a condition changes from one state to another, has always been used in various fields, from music to geophysics. In fact, the disciplines of drawing have always been confronted with themes and issues relating to transitions from one condition to another. The history of representation tells us of transformations, even epochal ones, relating to ‘drawing’, with all that such transitions entail: suffice it to think of the evolution of forms of representation, of instrumental apparatuses, of the mutability of supports, of the analogical-digital transition underway, of the new modes of communication on platforms, of the hypertrophic offer of images also on the net that confirms Guy Debord’s intuitions relating to the new spectacularisation of society. Similarly, representation triggers transitions in the prefiguration and communication of design, the anticipation and foreshadowing of future events.The challenges posed by the digital pose open questions whose scope can only be glimpsed, such as the relationship between drawing and the act of modelling, and the construction of new paradigms of visual language and communication. ‘Transitions’, almost implicitly, points to possible futures, the evolution of technique and the search for new modes of expression; at the same time, however, it can suggest silences and reflections in a process of connection between history, theory, criticism and construction.

    Beschreibung: The 43rd UID conference, held in Genova, takes up the theme of ‘Dialogues’ as practice and debate on many fundamental topics in our social life, especially in these complex and not yet resolved times. The city of Genova offers the opportunity to ponder on the value of comparison and on the possibilities for the community, naturally focused on the aspects that concern us, as professors, researchers, disseminators of knowledge, or on all the possibile meanings of the discipline of representation and its dialogue with ‘others’, which we have broadly catalogued in three macro areas: History, Semiotics, Science / Technology. Therefore, “dialogue” as a profitable exchange based on a common language, without which it is impossible to comprehend and understand one another; and the graphic sign that connotes the conference is the precise transcription of this concept: the title ‘translated’ into signs, derived from the visual alphabet designed for the visual identity of the UID since 2017. There are many topics which refer to three macro sessions: - Witnessing (signs and history) - Communicating (signs and semiotics) - Experimenting (signs and sciences) Thanks to the different points of view, an exceptional resource of our disciplinary area, we want to try to outline the prevailing theoretical-operational synergies, the collaborative lines of an instrumental nature, the recent updates of the repertoires of images that attest and nourish the relations among representation, history, semiotics, sciences.

For the founders of the discipline, defining the theoretical and epistemological apparatus of sociology and critically analysing the origins, developments and consequences of capitalist modernity were, therefore, two sides of the same "mission". This volume takes up that mission by updating it and problematising it: by discussing classical contributions in the light of the most recent social transformations; by separating theories, processes and phenomena (from digitalisation to the transformations of work); by extending the scope of the effects of capitalism to a variety of contiguous fields.

    Beschreibung: The lordship of the Beccaria, a branch of the great family from Pavia, on Arena Po, was established at the end of the thirteenth century, taking advantage of both the financial difficulties of the small municipality and the power of the family in Pavia. It was meant to last for centuries. Managed in a consortium form by various Beccaria exponents, it encountered difficulties also in relation to the political events of the duchy. Various documents are examined to investigate the nature, modalities and reality of the relations between the lords and the land in the final centuries of the Middle Ages, especially from the fiscal, economic and agricultural point of view.

    Beschreibung: Ultrasound techniques offer many advantages, in terms of ease of realization and patients’ safety. The availability of suitable hardware and software tools is condicio sine qua non for new methods testing. This PhD project addresses medical ultrasound signal processing and seeks to achieve two scientific goals: the first is to contribute to the development of an ultrasound research platform, while the second is introducing and validating, through this platform, non-standard methods. During the thesis, the capabilities of the system were improved by creating advanced software tools, such as acoustic field simulators, and by developing echo-signals elaboration programs. In particular, a novel technique for quasi-static elastography was developed, in-vitro tested and implemented in real-time.

    Beschreibung: Lordship management is a broad subject scarcely treated by historians; even when analysed, it has never been the object of exhaustive reconstructions and systematic surveys. The article provides a first, provisional overview of the main forms of lordship administration that changed depending on the period, region, lordship, type of revenue and many other factors. The Weberian notion of ideal type is particularly helpful in order to try to master the multiplicity and variety of forms of administration used in practice. On its basis, the essay identifies two basic ideal types, ‘Direct Management’ and ‘Indirect Management’, which are in turn divided into five sub-ideal types. Lastly, it questions the economic and social effects of each form of management, and the possibility of identifying, depending on the period and region, a more or less extensive diffusion of lordships attributable to the different ideal types.

    Beschreibung: This book explains how the methodological approach of the Six Sigma can be used to provide an effective solution to one of the most widespread problems faced by Small and Medium Enterprises: the frequent undercapitalisation linked to short-term investments often funded by bank loans. The Six Sigma method enables the problem to be tackled by studying, in an analytical and statistical manner, both the payments that the enterprises are to receive and the possible conditions of the funding, proposing solutions to optimise these processes and improve the financial performance of the SMEs. Hence the book is offered as both a methodological analysis and as an operative tool for the sphere of enterprise.
    Beschreibung: Il libro mostra come l'approccio metodologico del Sei Sigma possa essere utilizzato per fornire un'efficace soluzione ad un problema molto sentito dalle Piccole e Medie Imprese: la frequente sottocapitalizzazione legata agli investimenti a breve periodo, spesso finanziati con dei prestiti bancari. La metodologia Sei Sigma permette di affrontare il problema studiando in modo analitico e statistico sia i pagamenti che le aziende devono ricevere, sia le possibili condizioni di finanziamento, proponendo delle soluzioni per ottimizzare questi processi e migliorare la performance finanziaria di una PMI. In tal senso si propone allo stesso tempo come un saggio di analisi metodologica e come uno strumento operativo per la realtà imprenditoriale.
