    Description: Depuis la fin du xxe siècle, un pan de la critique universitaire s’est montré soucieux d’offrir aux études francophones un soubassement épistémologique capable d’asseoir leur légitimité. Le présent ouvrage se situe résolument dans ce sillage. Son originalité tient sans doute à la contribution d’écrivains et d’étudiants conviés à participer à cet effort réflexif. Adoptant une composition polygraphe qui mêle articles scientifiques, essais et entretiens, ce livre esquisse un inventaire des concepts, pratiques et méthodes permettant d’appréhender les écritures francophones du xxie siècle commençant. Il fait ainsi surgir ou resurgir quelques grandes questions et met en relief certaines nécessités : reconsidérer le concept même de francophonie, inclure la variété de ses espaces et de ses corpus, mais aussi sortir les études francophones de leur confinement. Plus globalement, il s’agit d’élaborer de nouveaux cadres théoriques pour repenser l’espace, le temps et l’histoire littéraire.

    Description: El análisis semiótico de la diégesis o historia relatada y la actorialización o distribución de los actores del discurso en Ilona llega con la lluvia permite dilucidar la desesperanza como el hilo conductor de la novela, el cual es develado por el relato que hacen los personajes de sus recuerdos. En mi lectura, daré cuenta del componente argumental como universo diégetico donde se desarrolla la trama, así como el componente actoral, donde se localizan los actores Maqroll, Ilona y Larissa, y las acciones que estos realizan y que los afectan. La actorialización definirá, además, cómo estos actores se relacionan con las isotopías semánticas de la nostalgia como sentimiento siempre presente de lo gozado en un pasado feliz, la muerte como experiencia propia y la conciencia de la propia destrucción como correlato necesario de la vida.

    Description: Dans le débat qui s’est noué autour de la gestion du couple coût-valeur dans la littérature, les contributeurs partent soit du coût, soit de la valeur pour le client, mais ne proposent pas de dispositif formel d’articulation. Notre proposition de pilotage de la performance organisationnelle par la valeur ajoutée horaire (VAH), outre sa cohérence avec une stratégie fondée sur les ressources, amorce la mise en place d’une articulation entre la valeur vendue et ses modalités de production à travers le concept de l’heure de valeur ajoutée, puisque le temps est à la fois un indicateur de mesure (sa représentation) et un indicateur de pilotage (son interprétation). Elle propose aux décideurs de l’entreprise de passer d’une logique de coûts à une logique de valeur dans le processus de réalisation de leurs objectifs. La méthode VAH se présente à la fois comme une méthode de calcul de la production de valeur et comme une méthode de management par la valeur de l’organisation. Ce livre est destiné aux professionnels de la gestion d’entreprise qui cherchent une alternative à la traditionnelle approche du pilotage de la performance par les coûts.     Description: Henri Hours' book on the end of the League in Lyon is one of the most important works of 16th century historiography in Lyon, although very few readers have had the opportunity to consult it. This is its main paradox and the challenge of this edition. The thesis was defended at the École Nationale des Chartes in 1951, but it has never been published and, in accordance with the rules of the École, it has never been made available. Only those who knew the author were able to read it, which does not prevent it from appearing in all bibliographies concerning the Wars of Religion. Following his death in 2017 and with the agreement of his family, the Collection Chrétiens & Sociétés has decided to publish this memoir for the first time in order to make it accessible to the public in Lyon and to historians of religious confrontations. Henri Hours meticulously analysed the last years of the League at Lyon, the crucial years 1593-1597. Since 1589, the city had swayed to the side of Catholic intransigence to the point of rejecting its sovereign, Henry IV, and maintaining a costly but necessary war effort in a region crossed by denominational borders. The bishop, Pierre d'Epinac, the consuls of Lyon, the governor of the city, the Savoyard and Spanish spies, but also the street preachers and the little people who were very inclined to be alarmed, were the main actors in these events. Here we touch on the political and religious dimensions of urban history. Through municipal deliberations, correspondence, pamphleteering and some contemporary accounts, Henri Hours unravels the skein of the city's political shift towards submission to the king. By looking back at the writings of some of these actors, notably Pierre Mathieu and Claude de Rubys, he also questions the memory of the event in the consciousness of Lyon.

    Description: Cinéma et télévision, que l’on opposa longtemps par leur mode de production et de réception, leur public ou même leur portée artistique, sont fortement liés par leur exploitation de la sérialité. Si la télévision est devenue la reine des séries, les récits audiovisuels sériels sont d’abord apparus dans les premières décennies du cinéma pour fidéliser un public, dans la droite ligne de ce que la littérature avait initié au XIXe siècle. Avec l’essor de la télévision dans les années 1950, les séries télévisées exploitent certaines stratégies des séries cinématographiques, tout en créant de nouvelles. Aujourd’hui, les grandes franchises hollywoodiennes, comme les séries télévisées anglophones, dominent les marchés et les imaginaires du monde entier. Alors que l’essor du phénomène sériel, aussi bien qualitatif que quantitatif, semble inexorable, quelles implications esthétiques, culturelles, industrielles et économiques sont à l’œuvre ? Quels sont les liens entre le récit audiovisuel et la sérialité au sens large ? Quelle est la spécificité de la sérialité dans les arts narratifs audiovisuels ? À travers l’histoire du cinéma et de la télévision, et de leur évolution inter-médiatique avec l’arrivée d’internet notamment, et au fil d’analyses approfondies d’œuvres comme The Hunger Games, Hannibal, Scream ou encore Crazy Ex Girlfriend, cet ouvrage éclaire les mécanismes et les contraintes de la sérialité audiovisuelle du monde anglophone.

    Description: Les auteurs de cet ouvrage “ Pierre et Archéologie ”, issu du Colloque international qui s’est tenu à Tautavel (14-15 mai 1998) veulent attirer l’attention sur les nombreux aspects de l’utilisation de la pierre par l’Homme depuis la Préhistoire, et les difficultés pour comprendre et expliquer son identification, son évolution et sa conservation. Mise à part l’utilisation lointaine de la pierre par l’homme préhistorique pour assurer sa survie, il reste le domaine très vaste, plus récent dans le temps, de la pierre de taille utilisée par les hommes. Déjà les gallo-romains se sont servis des pierres dites « du midi » pour des constructions que nous connaissons bien. Mais la pierre n’est pas réservée seulement aux monuments, elle fait partie de la vie quotidienne. En dehors des grands édifices, de nombreuses habitations sont bâties en pierre et souvent leur sol est pavé de pierres. Il y a aussi l’amour de la pierre tout simplement, pour le beau, le toucher : c’est par exemple la sculpture qui agrémente les monuments et même les habitations. Les sarcophages en marbre blanc, sculptés entre la fin de l’Antiquité classique et le Haut Moyen-Age, dont le problème de l’origine est traité dans cet ouvrage, montrent bien la diversité des aspects artistiques que l’Homme a su exploiter. L’ensemble des contributions présentées apporte des données originales sur les méthodes et techniques modernes utilisées pour contribuer à mieux comprendre l’évolution culturelle et artistique de l’humanité, le devenir de la pierre extraite et la restauration des monuments. Ceci montre une fois de plus la nécessité d’une recherche pluridisciplinaire, seule démarche pour assurer la protection et la pérennité de tout ce qui touche notre patrimoine.

    Description: The surge in public debt during the recent pandemic crisis has made high debt a prominent policy issue. Italy is an interesting case study since it has experienced high levels of debt for a significant part of its history. This article revisits the history of Italian public debts in the inter-war period. Italy emerged from WWI with public debt that peaked around 160 percent of GDP. In the mid-1920s a significant reduction of public debt occurred, in concomitance with a regime of fiscal austerity and two restructuring agreements that wiped more than 80 percent of Italian foreign debts. By the early 1930s, the US reaction to the Great Depression that opposed any form of international cooperation, led to an Italian default on war debts in 1934 and a move toward autarky.

    Description: In recent years, through novels and television series ("Vikings", "Millennium", "Borgen" or "Occupied"), Nordic culture has become more visible internationally. At the same time, researchers are questioning what the North is, its conceptualisation, its cultural implications, its geographical characteristics, its social and political challenges. This volume is part of the current debate on the Nordic imaginary based on a notion, Nordicity, which intersects with borealism. Plural and mobile, the North inspires both scriptural and figurative production based on desire, dream, fascination or fantasy. The real, tangible and contingent North is only the apparent surface of a manufactured and invented North. How can we express northernness today? Is a theory of the North possible? This volume attempts to answer these questions by bringing together contributions from researchers in Nordic studies, literature, linguistics and the humanities: each is given the opportunity to define his own conception of Nordicity. Ces dernières années, à travers romans et sériés télévisées ("Vikings", "Millennium", "Borgen" ou "Occupied"), la culture nordique a gagné en visibilité internationale. Simultanément, les chercheurs s'interrogent sur ce qu’est le Nord, sa conceptualisation, ses implications culturelles, ses caractéristiques géographiques, ses enjeux sociaux et politiques. Ce volume s’insère dans le débat actuel sur l’imaginaire nordique à partir d’une notion – la nordicité – qui interagit tout particulièrement avec le boréalisme. Pluriel et mouvant, moteur constant de redéfinitions, le Nord inspire une fabrication tant scripturale que figurale fondée sur le désir, le rêve, la fascination ou le fantasme. After a meeting with him in Cortona, Helle Busacca, a poet and writer from Messina, began drafting an epistolary diary dedicated to Corrado Pavolini, a well-known intellectual and film director of Tuscan origins with whom she had been in love for over twenty years. Through the so far unpublished pages she dedicated to “una storia senza storia” (“a story without history"), the writer brings to life an incandescent theatre of the self, in which the dramatization of personal experience, the self-representative elaboration and the expression of a living and restless inner self combine in a mixture of strongly hybrid characters, which is conveyed by a disruptive communicative force. As the desperately pursued interlocutor becomes increasingly evanescent and unreachable, the voice of a modern tragic heroine emerges unmistakably between claim and confession.

    Description: Écrire la crise ce n'est pas la raconter. C'est montrer comment elle modifie nos manières de raconter. Encore faut-il s'entendre sur le mot lui-même car peut-on appeler crise (du grec « krisis » : changement brutal) cette lente dissolution des valeurs de la modernité qui nous fait entrer dans un « après » informulable, sinon par le terme souvent controversé de postmodernité ? Au-delà des polémiques que suscite cette notion, il s'agit ici de considérer le postmoderne non pas comme une régression anti-moderne mais comme la prise de conscience d'un certain nombre de dévoiements du projet moderne qui nous projettent dans une ère de turbulence dont les arts, et en particulier la littérature, portent la marque. Ainsi considéré, le postmodernisme n'est ni une école, ni une avant-garde. Il témoigne avant tout d'une crise de culture à la transition des deux siècles, qui s'est transformée en culture de la crise, de sorte que, non seulement la pensée, la science et les arts, s'en trouvent affectés, mais de manière plus profonde encore, la société et l'individu. C'est pourquoi cet essai se propose à la fois, d'examiner l'hypothèse postmoderne comme mise en turbulence des valeurs de la modernité, et de définir le postmodernisme en littérature comme une esthétique qui met en relation les configurations sociales et certaines formes d'écriture contemporaine.

    Description: The validation of the Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD) and Biochemical Oxygen Demand (BOD) was carried out. In the first, a potassium acid phthalate standard and a spectrophotometric detection method were used, and for the second, the reading of samples was implemented by membrane electrode, a standard glutamic acid-glucose solution and incubation for 5 days at 20 ± 1ºC. Parameters were determined as linearity, precision, accuracy, sensitivity, limit of detection and quantification. It was demonstrated through experimental design and statistical procedures that methods can be used with sensitivity and confidence. Detection and quantification limits of 46.2 and 100 mg/L for COD and 2.78 and 4.71 mg / L for BOD were reached. In both tests a coefficient of variation for repeatability and reproducibility between 0.001 - 0.055% and 0.001 - 0.022% was evidenced; in accuracy, error and recovery percentages were obtained between 0.04 - 3.39% and 95.0 and 103% respectively.

En la primera se utilizó estándar de ftalato ácido de potasio y un método de detección espectrofotométrico y para la segunda, se implementó la lectura de muestras por electrodo de membrana, una solución estándar de glucosa-ácido glutámico e incubación por cinco días a 20±1ºC. Se determinaron parámetros como linealidad, precisión, exactitud, sensibilidad, límite de detección y cuantificación. Se demostró mediante el diseño experimental y los procedimientos estadísticos que se pueden emplear los métodos con sensibilidad y confianza. Se alcanzaron límites de detección y cuantificación de 46.2 y 100 mg/L para DQO y 2.78 y 4.71 mg/L para DBO. En ambas pruebas se evidenció un coeficiente de variación para repetibilidad y reproducibilidad entre el 0.001 - 0.055% y 0.001 – 0.022%; en la exactitud se obtuvieron porcentajes de error y recuperación entre el 0.04 – 3.39% y 95.0 y 103% respectivamente.

    Description: Le nom de Bruno Chérier (1817-1880) est passé à la posté­rité en raison de l’amitié qui le liait au sculpteur Jean-Baptiste Carpeaux, dont il était le correspondant fidèle et le modèle. Cet ouvrage met en évidence le rôle de Chérier auprès du sculpteur : ils collaborent à leurs débuts à des chantiers communs, Chérier jouant un rôle essentiel dans la pratique de la peinture par Carpeaux et participant au choix des sujets inspirant son ami. Le sculpteur nous a également laissé une série d’émouvants portraits de Chérier, aussi bien dessinés, peints que sculptés. Richement illustrée, cette étude permet également de restituer la carrière de Chérier, à la fois peintre et dessinateur de cartons de vitraux. Ancré dans le Nord mais aussi reflet plus large d’une esthétique propre au Second Empire et aux prémices de la iiie République, son œuvre est essentiellement formé de portraits et de décors religieux. Valenciennois d’origine, il a notamment reçu des commandes à Tourcoing, Lille et Loos. Dans cette mono­graphie, l’accent a été plus particulièrement porté sur les cycles décoratifs monumentaux dans les églises : Chérier est en effet le peintre qui a obtenu le plus de commandes au xixe siècle pour des édifices religieux de la métropole lilloise.

    Description: The art of printing with movable type made its appearance in Perugia -then as now, the heart of Italy- in 1471, when the city was under the sway of Braccio Baglioni. Perugia was home to an important university which had been attracting students from all over Europe for more than a century. They found hospitality in two colleges, of which the ‘Sapienza Vecchia’, in particular, was accustomed to accommodating students from abroad. The colleges were themselves instrumental in assisting the work of the earliest printers, all of them foreigners; their enterprise flourished for about fifteen years before strong competition from larger printing centres, notably Venice, took control of the Perugian book market. A second phase in local book production started at the turn of the century under the aegis of two major players, the Cartolari family and Bianchino dal Leone. The history of the book in Perugia is characterized by a quality and originality which is not reflected in the modest quantities produced there, and the major bibliographers have always taken an interest in it. All that and more can be found in this book, the outcome of lengthy research based on detailed analysis of all known editions and archival documents, including a number of new discoveries.

    Description: The sociology of the reception of artistic works attempts to exploit the fact – often mentioned in theoretical terms but rarely explored empirically – that works only exist and last because of the interpretative activity of their viewers: readers and spectators are always present as third parties placed between the meaning which the artist gave to their work and that which is attributed by those whose receive it. In order to apprehend such acts of reception a team of researchers lead by Jean-Claude Passeron and Emmanuel Pedler in 1987 followed visitors to the Musée Granet in Aix-en Provence chronometer in hand. Their aim was to uncover the social factors which underlie the ‘time given to the paintings’. Since its publication in 1991 the present work, which gave an account of the original study, has been cited rather more often that it has been read. Now reedited in the Bibliothèque idéale des sciences sociales it has been augmented by several important articles in which the authors of the original study pursued their analysis of the reception of artistic works, both in the fields of both pictures and music. In an attempt to describe and measure precisely the ‘pacts’ of reception that are created between the works of art and their public, the ensemble proposes a sociology centred on the fate of singular works which is different from the sociology of cultural consumption which currently dominates sociological surveys of culture. As an attempt to identify the semic acts of aesthetic experience by identifying them with objective indicators it positins itself firmly within the sociology of inquiry. In addition to this collection of texts, a long interview with Jean-Claude Passeron and Emmanuel Pedler allows readers to discover the general perspective in which this exemplary survey was carried out and how it influenced their subsequent work. Finally, and perhaps the post original aspect of the reedition, it provides readers with the original data of the survey, thus allowing them to prolong the authors’ analyses and to explore further the avenues opened by an approach whose fertility heuristic is as pertinent as it ever was.

Sont étudiées en détail des pièces comme le Livre pour quatuor, Le Marteau sans maître, la Troisième Sonate pour piano, Figures, Doubles, Prismes, Éclat/Multiples ou Rituel, mais aussi des pièces retirées. Il s'agit de contributions originales qui apportent une somme d'informations nouvelles et décisives pour la compréhension d'une pensée musicale ayant marqué en profondeur les cinquante dernières années. Pour qu'ils soient plus lisibles et plus faciles à consulter, les exemples musicaux et les fac-similés des manuscrits de Boulez ont été gravés sur le CD-ROM joint.

    Description: L’ex-voto est un don fait par un fidèle à un personnage céleste en remerciement d’une protection. En Provence, pendant plus de trois siècles, ces ex-voto ont souvent pris la forme d’un petit tableau déposé dans un sanctuaire, montrant le protecteur et les circonstances de la protection. Ces tableaux votifs présentent des images de la vie d’autrefois, dans des circonstances particulières, celles du danger, qui ont motivé la demande d’intervention céleste. À côté de ces scènes du vécu quotidien, ils offrent aussi une représentation du sacré, et de son lien avec les hommes. Le présent ouvrage se fonde sur une analyse exhaustive des quatre mille ex-voto provençaux, mais en présente une version destinée à un large public. En effet il est construit à partir de la reproduction photographique de plus de deux cents ex-voto, dont la majorité inédits. Ce sont ces photos qui servent de support à l’analyse et au commentaire, faisant pénétrer le lecteur dans l’univers matériel quotidien (maladies, naissances, accidents du travail, accidents de la circulation terrestre et maritime, guerre et violence, dangers de la foudre ou des eaux…) et dans les représentations des recours célestes de nos ancêtres (les saints intercesseurs, Marie…), face au danger.

    Description: Souterrains have in the past been the object of both varied and fanciful inter­pretations. Considered at different times to be places of refuge or worship, they have been attribued to periods ranging from pre-history to the French Revolu­tion. The present study, first written as a doctoral thesis, examines94 souterrains in the Limousin region and analyses their geographical and historical significance. Research has included excavation of the Bois-du-Mont souterrain at Bessines-sur-Gartempe in the Haute-Vienne depart­ment. The result of the study proves that these underground chambers are related to rural settlement during IXth to XIIIth centuries. Archaeology provides firm evidence for when these structures were tunnelled, occupied and abandoned. The disciplined methodological approach of this work is exemplary in a field where scientific analysis has so far been vir­tually non-existent.

Il s’agit de dépasser une lecture centrée sur le rire de l’homo urbanus et du bon orateur, proposée par Cicéron et Quintilien, pour lui préférer une lecture historicisée et combinatoire qui considère les orateurs, les traits d’esprit, les auditoires et les causes politiques comme un tout à l’agencement variable de ce que les Modernes nomment l’« humour politique ». Scrutant les divers contextes politiques de cet humour, cette recherche souligne le passage, selon des rythmes syncopés résultant d’un repli de la causticité aristocratique face à César mais qui perdure à l’époque triumvirale, d’un « faire rire » frontal articulé autour du succès oratoire vers un humour fondé sur l’anonymat des correspondances, des graffitis ou des chants du triomphe. La dernière partie de l’ouvrage, centrée sur le Ier s. p. C., part de l’opposition établie par les sources entre les « bons princes » et les « tyrans » afin de montrer que, ne se limitant pas à refuser ou à accepter le rire politique selon son degré de dangerosité directe pour leur autorité, les princes l’utilisèrent à leur profit, entretenant une « inaccessible accessibilité » au fondement d’un charisme singulier qui permit l’aboutissement de la « Révolution romaine ».

    Description: Situated in the North of France, Bettencourt-Saint- Ouen is an open-air Middle Palaeolithic site, most probably used as a hunters’ stopping place. Five successive phases of occupation have been excavated, covering a period of 40.000 years Study of the site has revealed fondamental data lot our understanding of human occupation, as well as important informations on environmental changes to the site during the final glacial period (from the Eemian Interglacial to the lower Weichselian Pleniglacial). Distribution of finds at Bettencourt, coupled with the technology and typology of the site’s lithic industries, point to a continuity in systems of production and cultural traditions from 112,000 to 68,000 BP.

As Giulio Bollati has shown better than any other in a famous essay, this self-representation draws its origins first of all from the period between the late Enlightenment and the early Napoleonic age, in which for the first time the Peninsula was called to deal with the models imposed by the great European modernization.     Description: Depuis son haut plateau, l’oppidum de Corent domine le pays arverne, patrie de Vercingétorix et, avant lui, des richissimes et mythiques rois celtes Bituit et Luern. Ville gauloise quasi inconnue il y a vingt ans, capitale présumée de ce territoire qui correspond à l’Auvergne actuelle, Corent a livré les structures d’un imposant sanctuaire d’un genre tout à fait nouveau. Prolongement et aboutissement des campagnes de fouilles et d’études, cet ouvrage présente les vestiges et le mobilier retrouvés dans le sanctuaire, en fait l’analyse et en livre les premières interprétations raisonnées. Après un exposé du contexte géographique et historiographique des fouilles, trois chapitres abordent dans l’ordre chronologique les traces d’occupation antérieures à la fondation du sanctuaire, les structures archéologiques de ses différents états d’occupation et son évolution à l’époque romaine. L’ensemble des mobiliers associés (métalliques, céramiques, vitreux, fauniques ou lithiques) est présenté dans un chapitre regroupant une quinzaine de contributions de spécialistes, qui apportent les éléments d’analyse nécessaires à la compréhension du site sur un plan typo-chronologique et fonctionnel. Un dernier chapitre de synthèse aborde successivement les caractéristiques architecturales du sanctuaire et la fonction de ses aménagements, les pratiques sacrificielles et festives, mais aussi militaires, civiques et évergétiques mises en évidence par les dépositions de mobilier, ainsi que l’identité de la ou des divinité(s) honorée(s) et des protagonistes du culte. L’analyse des interactions entre le sanctuaire et son environnement immédiat permet enfin de repositionner le site dans son contexte urbain, des origines de l’oppidum de Corent à son abandon durant l’Antiquité tardive.

The first, "Disputed territorial constructions", includes works that analyze, from different disciplinary points of view, the tensions that run through the production of meanings about the territory. The second is "Neoliberalism and commodification of nature" and brings together studies that focus on the different forms and open scenarios of dispute for the appropriation of land, water and biodiversity within the framework of the historical cycle that began with the conservative reaction of the late 1970s. Ce dernier ouvrage s’intéresse aux statuts « vus de l’extérieur » c’est-à-dire au rapport entre le texte statutaire et sa mise en jeu dans des pratiques sociales concrètes, mais aussi à la manière dont les acteurs médiévaux se posent la question de l’usage de la norme, aux divers moments documentaires où ils font référence ou allèguent explicitement les statuts dans leurs pratiques. C’est l’occasion de mesurer la force pratique des statuts, leurs effets dans la vie quotidienne du gouvernement et des acteurs sociaux, de prouver ainsi la pertinence de la confrontation entre divers éléments textuels produits par la commune pour élaborer une histoire des pratiques sociales à partir des pratiques d’écriture dans les sociétés de la Méditerranée occidentale à la fin du Moyen Âge (XIIe-XVe siècle).

    Description: The funerary beds of the Roman period come from an ancient tradition, whose origins, beyond the Greeks, can be traced to the earliest historical periods, in Egypt and in the Near East. Since the 19th century, excavations have produced many vestiges, most of them dating back to between the 2nd century BC up to the 2nd century AD; they echo pieces found in domestic contexts which, though less numerous, allow interesting comparisons and a better understanding of the topic. The large variety of the identified models led to develop a detailed typology of these forms, from the most ancient ones up to those of the Roman period. The publications significantly changed our knowledge of the beds adorned with bronze as well as those adorned with bone carvings. By contrast, instances of ivory beds are extremely rare, whether it be in Italy or in the whole Roman world. Thus, the discovery at Cumae of the vestiges of three ivory beds, adorned with this precious material, serves as essential and unique testimony. The fragments were mixed with the bones of the deceased and placed in urns, themselves located in important mausoleums. Their remarkable quality and meticulous workmanship, clearly visible upon some pieces, which survived the destruction caused by the cremation, as well as the iconographic staged patterns, testify to the conspicuous intentions of their owners, anxious to show their social status, their wealth and their virtues to the living. The contextualization and close study of these three beds, along with a comparison with the known examples, led for each of them to an attempt at a graphic restoration, as a prerequisite for an iconographical and iconological analysis. The achieved results, correlated with the mausoleums where they were found, led to a much more precise understanding of those beds and of the prominent position they enjoyed at the funeral ceremony.

    Description: Depuis les années 1980, une approche nouvelle s’est imposée autour de la construction en reprenant le principe archéologique de la stratigraphie des unités et des faits. Plusieurs rencontres depuis 2001 ont pu témoigner de ces avancées et il devenait nécessaire de confronter tous les acteurs concernés dans un colloque international. Cette archéologie dépasse les études architecturales traditionnelles qui reposaient essentiellement sur les formes et les grandes étapes de changement visibles à l’œil depuis le sol. Le bâti apparaît aujourd’hui non comme uniquement un ensemble de formes inscrites dans l’histoire mais comme une structure complexe toujours en renouvellement. La construction n’est plus celle d’un type entrant dans des cases mais celle d’un lieu aux fonctions et aux usages ayant évolué avec le temps. Sa permanence comme sa disparition nous interroge.

Este libro se ocupa precisamente de las modalidades que ha asumido ese intento a lo largo de siglo y medio. La investigación emprendió el análisis de los programas y libros de texto de historia, tanto oficiales como particulares, y los situó dentro del contexto del acontecer del Estado mexicano y de la educación pública. Por tanto es una obra de interés para educadores, estudiosos de la historia de México y del público en general.

    Description: Relay-point on a roman road, the oppidum of Ambrussum is a major site concerning conditions and aspects of the romanisation in the region of Nîmes. Two houses with internal courtyards were already known and dated from the first century AD and form an insula of secteur I. Research conducted from 1976 to 1980 in secteur IV revealed a house of the same type with its dependancies. Following an analysis based on the conditions of implantation, occupation and abandonment, their architecture and distribution of the finds, these constructions appear to be an original expression of gallo-roman habitations. Situated in their local and regional contexts, they reflect the process of urbanisation and social differenciation, and of the village type exploitation existence.

    Description: How can we understand the philosophy of linguistics by taking the discipline’s actual theoretical pluralism as our starting point? By what criteria can grammatical research be assessed if we abandon a competitive model of theorising? Through an investigation of different areas of linguistics, this book brings to light certain hermeneutic properties of linguistic theorisation which are currently poorly understood and sometimes not even yet noticed. As a complement to these investigations, the book analyses a number of questions that arise in the “ideological” criticism of contemporary linguistics, examining the discipline’s theoretical activity in light of the socio-ideological realities on which it depends, sometimes unwittingly. Uniting two approaches to linguistics that are rarely brought into dialogue, the book opens up the possibility of an alternative understanding of the complexity of the particular textual objects that are grammatical theories.

    Description: In this article, the experience of approaching the characterization of afro-descendant, indigenous and functional diversity early childhood, attended by twenty (20) institutions of initial education in Santiago de Cali, is presented. In this action-participation research, the voices of families, teachers, support staff, boys and girls on differential attention and attention to diversity are recognized, through the implementation of participant observations, workshops with teachers and educational agents, family referents and semi-structured interviews with the children benefiting from the centers responsible for initial education in the city. Additionally, a documentary analysis of the Operational Plans for Comprehensive Care (POAI) was made. By way of problematization and contribution to the discussion about inclusion in childhood educational contexts, research results are raised, as well as some issues to work for the strengthening of initial education with a differential approach, where it is considered vital for child development, address as a transversal axis the theme of identity and respect for diversity.

    Description: En este artículo, se plantea la experiencia de acercamiento a la caracterización de la primera infancia afrodescendiente, indígena y con diversidad funcional, atendida en 20 instituciones de Educación Inicial de Santiago de Cali. En esta investigación tipo acción-participación, se reconocen las voces de las familias, maestras, personal de apoyo, niños y niñas, sobre atención diferencial y atención a la diversidad, mediante la implementación de observaciones participantes, talleres con maestras, maestros y agentes educativos, referentes familiares y entrevistas semiestructuradas con los niños y las niñas beneficiarios de los centros encargados de la Educación Inicial en la ciudad. Adicionalmente, se hizo un análisis documental de los Planes Operativos para la Atención Integral (POAI). A modo de problematización y aporte a la discusión sobre la inclusión en contextos educativos de infancia, se plantean los resultados de investigación, así como algunos temas a trabajar para el fortalecimiento de la Educación Inicial con enfoque diferencial, donde se considera vital para el desarrollo infantil, abordar como eje transversal la temática de la identidad y el respeto a la diversidad.

    Description: Aux États-Unis, la notion de race est utilisée de manière routinière par les médecins en tant que variable biologique, culturelle ou sociale, selon les situations de soins. Croisant les notions de citoyenneté, de responsabilité et de droits civiques, ainsi que les questionnements autour de la politisation de la science, cet ouvrage retrace l’histoire de la médicalisation du corps noir par la profession psychiatrique aux États-Unis, du xxe siècle jusqu’à l’époque contemporaine. Conjuguant l’histoire et la sociologie, il est ainsi question de retracer les différents régimes par lesquels la notion de race a été jugée pertinente par les psychiatres pour naturaliser les différences corporelles des années 1920 jusqu’à l’époque contemporaine. En s’appuyant sur un corpus d’archives personnelles de médecins, d’institutions de soins et de centres de recherche en psychiatrie, ainsi que sur une enquête qualitative réalisée auprès de psychiatres en Californie, ce livre démontre que la catégorie de race irrigue encore et toujours les pratiques et les discours institutionnels, aussi bien dans les représentations que les médecins véhiculent des corps soignés, que dans les stratégies de naturalisation du social employées pour prendre en charge leurs patients.

    Description: Although the multimodal components of communication have been studied for some time in different scientific fields, and provide relevant frameworks for the analysis of social meaning, the organisation of interaction and knowledge sharing, this book looks at them in relation to the training of education professionals. It presents empirical studies in different educational contexts: special education; primary and secondary education; initial and continuing vocational training. Based on Gunther Kress’s social semiotic theory, it examines the methodological conditions in which educational practice which mobilises a variety of semiotic resources - gestuality, gaze, space, proxemy, artefacts and language – can be observed and interpreted. But the authors also pose the question of how these observation and interpretation conditions can be reintroduced in the field of training for the education profession (How can we elicit the semiotic experiences of professionals in training? What can be observed? With what tools?) and call for the recognition of multimodal practices in the construction, mediation and acquisition of knowledge.

    Description: Social media are nowadays fertile ground for debates that are often rich in arguments of persuasive value. In the present writing, we hypothesize that emotions play a significant role in determining the success of arguments on social media. In order to validate the hypothesis, we analyzed Change My View, an Internet forum on Reddit where the persuasiveness of the discussions among participants is explicit and regulated by specific norms. Our analysis revealed that arguments enjoying a higher degree of success were characterized by two particular emotions: anticipation and joy, which we interpret as belonging to engagement, a more general emotional dimension that includes them both. Such characteristics of successful arguments lead us to consider the persuasive experience on social media as analogous to a playful experience. Like in a game, in order to successfully take part in such a persuasive experience, certain requirements are needed: commitment and respect for the rules as well as joyful participation.

Tal vez convenga dejar de lado momentáneamente el carácter mismo de esta convicción, su grado de elaboración y coherencia, las condiciones de su formación, para destacar solamente ese rasgo decisivo: que ha llegado a ser un referente de identidad. Esto nos permite indicar, para comenzar, que en un sentido fundamental todos somos dogma-ticos, que no es posible tomar una alegre distancia sobre el dogmatismo, sin hacernos toda clase de ilusiones sobre la economía de nuestro pensamiento. Dogmático fue ya nuestro ingreso en el mundo: una palabra incuestionable designó, valoró y configuró la imagen primera de la realidad y de nosotros mismos; la palabra de un ser supremo objeto de todo, de la identificación, de la necesidad, del amor, del deseo, de la demanda, de la hostilidad. Cuando más tarde, los monstruos sagrados de la infancia se diferencian y relativizan y, finalmente, ya no puede negarse del todo que son en cierto modo, señores comunes y corrientes, la nostalgia de una palabra fundadora sigue operando y puede buscarse y encontrarse en el mundo alguien a quien adjudicársela; o, lo que es más peligroso, tratar de negar que estamos privados de ella por medio de una autonomización maníaca e intentar producirla nosotros mismos. En quoi les dispositifs graphiques orientent-ils la lecture et l’interprétation des documents écrits (Images et textes) ? Comment l’attention du lecteur est-elle captée, comment sa mémoire est-elle sollicitée par une maquette ? Les rectangles de la page (pavés, cadres, bordures…) marquent des séparations, des catégorisations, des mises en relation entre les unités qui la composent. La compréhension du texte s’inscrit dans une phénoménologie de la communication où le corps du lecteur joue un rôle. Dans le Canton du premier tiers du XXe siècle où d’efficaces campagnes de stigmatisation se sont soldées par un recul général de la pratique et par sa quasi-disparition au sein des élites, Xavier Paulès montre avec force que l’opium n’a été ni un fléau de santé publique, ni un facteur de désintégration du corps social. Si la drogue résiste, c’est en partie grâce aux agréments qu’offrent les fumeries : l’enquête minutieuse qu’il leur consacre atteste qu’elles sont le lieu privilégié d’une sociabilité masculine de quartier. Cette étude nous plonge dans les mutations d’une société urbaine dont l’ampleur et la rapidité ne peuvent se comparer qu’à celles qu’on observe en Chine aujourd’hui. Rivalités politiques, transformation de l’ordre fiscal et administratif, affirmation d’une économie des loisirs, hiérarchie sociale, place des femmes, influence des sociétés secrètes et du monde du crime, construction d’une identité nationale, il n’est guère de question qui ne reçoive un éclairage nouveau et original.

Descartes forge pour l’expliquer une « fable » que Doatéa Nuri prend ici décidément au sérieux. Les tribulations, les hésitations, les atermoiements, les incapacités dont font état le Discours de la méthode ou les Méditations métaphysiques sont imputés par elle non à Descartes, mais à un narrateur qu’elle nomme l’Incertain et dont elle brosse le portrait philosophique. Non sans conséquences importantes pour la philosophie elle-même. Car l’incertitude, autre nom de la neutralité, ou de l’anonymat, caractérise aussi bien « l’espace littéraire ». Cette lecture de Descartes, qui cite Blanchot, Deleuze, Foucault, mais fait aussi songer, quand l’Incertain se fait Barbare ou Arpenteur, au Michaux de Plume, ouvre à la pensée un champ illimité, vertigineux, dans lequel la neutralité, virtuellement universelle, est susceptible d’affecter des textes de tous ordres, sans souci d’aucune autorité. L’incertitude n’est pas seulement une hypothèse paradoxale formulée à propos du philosophe réputé le plus clair et le plus assuré ; elle est peut-être la condition de toute pensée.

    Description: Le secret est le “personnage théorique” de ce volume collectif qui essaye de penser les figures particulières que la Modernité lui a inventées. Il ne s’agit donc pas de décrire des structures hors de toute histoire mais de chercher en quoi le secret est intimement lié à une économie nouvelle du langage, à des formes littéraires nouvelles. Car la Modernité a produit une exigence de tout dire qui change radicalement le partage entre dicible et indicible. Journal intime ou roman sont, notamment, deux matrices fécondes d’écriture du secret et leur floraison est, d’une certaine façon, l’histoire de la modernité. On déclinera donc quelques figures narratives du secret, en racontant le “roman du secret”. De Madame de Duras à Huysmans, Proust et Bernanos, de Blanchot à Quignard, ou chez Carrère et Both, le principe même du romanesque réside dans les modalités indéfinies de révélation du secret, ce secret qui se réserve, qui nous fait lire. Par contraste, la poésie choisit le versant du mystère. On en verra chez Maeterlinck, Artaud, Pessoa ou Michaux les modes de figuration, et ce qui fait du lyrisme une science de l’ineffable. Les figures du secret sont infinies, chatoyantes et séduisantes. Les énigmatiques jeunes filles de Balthus nous rappellent la place du visible et les réflexions de Wittgenstein ouvrent à une redéfinition de la subjectivité. Le secret échappe. Il relance heureusement notre désir de savoir, notre avidité de lire, notre besoin de lui donner un contenu. Il est ainsi l’un des noms, secrets et éclatants, de la littérature.

    Description: Varias son las vetas desde donde se han abordado la expresión “lenguaje cinematográfico”. No obstante, como introducción para después abordar tal expresión con mayor profundidad desde lo que nos interesa, podemos destacar dos. La primera tiene relación con el deslumbramiento y asombro que el cine mudo, a principios del siglo XX, ocasionaba en algunos artistas y estetas, así como las posibilidades que éstos últimos veían en aquel. El cine, como una nueva forma de expresión, surgió y fue aceptado por las mayorías y por algunas minorías. Esto implicaba necesariamente una innovadora manera de abordar y vivir la experiencia estética, hasta ese momento anclada y validada socialmente en la cultura élite, cuyo medio de expresión más sobresaliente era el lenguaje verbal y escrito.

    Description: Following Fernand Braudel’s Méditerranée, historians interpreted the Mediterranean, Baltic, Atlantic, Indian Ocean or Pacific as closed maritime systems, consisting of multiple micro-environments. This essay seeks to overcome these limited perspectives and to examine, how the various seas and oceans were connected by the Vikings, the Cairo Genizah merchants and the Italian trading companies of the Middle Ages. The second part of my article “Connected Seas” examines the perception and memory of the seas as an element of maritime connectivity. It introduces the concept of realm of memory (lieu de mémoire) into maritime history and tests it in four case studies on the Sound, the Straits of Gibraltar, the Dardanelles and the Straits of Malacca.

    Description: The so-called data deluge, along with ever-increasing technological capabilities, tantalizes geographers with exciting opportunities for spatial data analysis. These opportunities come with challenges, because data and technology, alone, cannot address the pressing questions of our world. Spatial analysis, a.k.a. spatial statistics, is a lot more than colourful maps and attractive displays: still relatively underrepresented in the Italian geography, this discipline has grown from a strictly quantitative niche to part of a critical spatial science and continues to stimulate new developments in statistics because, as we know, spatial is special. This book, published in the series “New Geographies. Work Tools”, adds spatial analysis to the Italian geographer’s toolbox. Not a how-to manual, it presents some of the core analytical issues through the redundancy of narrative language and mathematical language. It traces the journey of spatial analysis from its roots in quantitative geography, GIS, and statistics, towards the definition of its own identity and the acceptance of its own relativity and limitations. It discusses the relationship of spatial analysis with GIScience and its efforts to embed critiques within its own discourse, emphasizing the role of theory, the importance of hypothesis testing, and acknowledging the ethics surrounding the use and analysis of data. A few examples illustrate practical implementations, showing the value added by spatial statistics in yielding reliable analyses that can support management decisions. It concludes with a brief outlook on the Italian geographic literature, where spatial analysis – like elsewhere – can play a role in competently accepting today’s opportunities and challenges, in a constructive dialogue within geography as a whole.

    Description: Umberto Gori has held the first chair of International Relations in Italy and has been the first scholar to address a series of central topics in the analysis of foreign policy and international politics. Those who browse, even if only rapidly, his rich bibliography cannot but be struck by the great variety of the topics examined: from the first works of a predominantly legal nature, we move on to studies centered on methodological and epistemological issues, relations between states, analysis of foreign policy in general and Italian foreign policy in particular, Peace Research, strategic affairs, intelligence, and finally the impact of the information and digital revolution on international politics and contemporary strategy. What holds together so many different issues is, firstly, a constant attention to methodology and, secondly, a clear preference for a predominantly operational approach, in the belief that knowledge must always be functional to decision and action. These basic attitudes are reflected not only in his strongly characterized research agenda, but also in the twofold nature of his teaching commitment: on the one hand, Gori taught outside the university classrooms, at military and governmental institutions, for decades; on the other hand, he introduced issues traditionally reserved to diplomacy and security institutions into the Italian academic context. Such a propensity to build bridges between different worlds - academic, military, technological, diplomatic, financial - and a research vocation that has never failed make Umberto Gori a figure indissolubly linked to the birth and development of International Relations in Italy.

    Description: The 43rd UID conference, held in Genova, takes up the theme of ‘Dialogues’ as practice and debate on many fundamental topics in our social life, especially in these complex and not yet resolved times. The city of Genova offers the opportunity to ponder on the value of comparison and on the possibilities for the community, naturally focused on the aspects that concern us, as professors, researchers, disseminators of knowledge, or on all the possibile meanings of the discipline of representation and its dialogue with ‘others’, which we have broadly catalogued in three macro areas: History, Semiotics, Science / Technology.     Description: Medicine has coined the concept of 'disease', but individual patients frequently present complicated cases marked by the coexistence of several conditions or syndromes. The doctor needs to reflect on this complexity because, in his daily practice, he has to address and resolve it for a correct management of the patient. This is why we must, with genuine humility, seek to share a journey in which there are no major landmarks. The authority of the various colleagues who have contributed the different chapters can offer elements of guidance that are useful in a series based on the leitmotif of the cornerstone concepts of complexity. My thanks to those who have accepted this challenge, in the sincere hope that it may enrich us – even just a little and by slow degrees – with an enhanced capacity to address the daily issue of the complexity of the sick.
