Jahrhunderts begleitete, gehört zu den Grundüberzeugungen der Geschichtswissenschaft vom "langen" 19. Jahrhundert. Im "Age of Revolutions" gaben die Ideen von Freiheit und Gleichheit mit ihrer systemerschütternden Kraft einem ganzen Zeitalter ihren Namen. Aber gilt der Zusammenhang von Krieg, Revolution und Nationalismus auch an den Rändern Europas und über Europa hinaus? Wie steht es um den asiatischen Teil der Sowjetunion, um Mexiko, die Türkei? Angelehnt an die grundlegenden Forschungen Dieter Langewiesches hinterfragen zehn Experten eine der wirkmächtigsten Meistererzählungen der Geschichtswissenschaft. Dabei gehen sie weit über den traditionellen mitteleuropäischen Forschungsrahmen hinaus und untersuchen Beispiele revolutionärer Erhebungen in Süd- und Osteuropa ebenso wie die Entwicklungen auf dem amerikanischen Kontinent. Zwei Zeiträume stehen im Mittelpunkt: Die Jahrzehnte um 1800 als dem klassischen Revolutionszeitalter und die Jahre um den ersten Weltkrieg, in dessen Umfeld erneut territoriale und politische Ordnungen in Frage gestellt und neu gestaltet wurden.

Aus einer assimilierten jüdischen Danziger Kaufmannsfamilie stammend, war er als junger Mann als Journalist und Zeitungsunternehmer in Berlin erfolgreich. In der Peripherie war er aber von den Verteilungswettkämpfen abgeschnitten, die in der Zentrale in geheimen Abstimmungen abliefen. Kunstvolle Briefe an andere Politiker und politisch einflussreiche Intellektuelle sollten das Problem lösen. Diese Briefe nutzten humanistische, juristische und theologische Metaphern, um Themen anzusprechen, die außerhalb der offiziellen Gremien tabu waren. Foscarini legte eine didaktisch aufgebaute Briefsammlung mit den wirksamsten seiner Briefe an –　ein Erfahrungsschatz, den er seinen Söhnen für ihre politischen Laufbahnen hinterließ. Die Publikation kontextualisiert in einer interdisziplinär angelegten Analyse die Einzelbriefe anhand von gelehrten Textvorlagen und Wissensbeständen sowie Archivmaterial.     Description: Despite the opposition of two parties - first the Whigs and the Tories, then the Liberals and the Conservatives - 19th century Britain was characterized by a political culture of moderation. The bearers of this political culture were a group of politicians who always sought the middle way between the extremes and were known as Liberal Tories or Liberal Conservatives. This book fills a research gap by examining the development of this British Liberal Conservatism in the period from 1750 to 1850, first looking at Edmund Burke's political philosophy and then showing how the Liberal Tories and Liberal Conservatives who followed him drew on his thinking. It shows how politicians such as George Canning and Sir Robert Peel, based on Burke and the political philosophy of the "Old Whigs", pursued a centrist policy that was always oriented towards the virtues of moderation and prudence. The book thus sheds light on the conservative variant of liberalism that characterized Great Britain throughout the 19th century.

    Description: Mit kritischer Distanz beschreibt Halter die Einsetzung des NS-Oberbürgermeisters Dr. Schottenheim nach der Machtergreifung, die Berufung linientreuer Parteigenossen in das Ratsherrenkollegium und die nahezu nahtlose Übernahme der überwiegend schon in der Zeit der Weimarer Republik tätigen kommunalen Spitzenbeamten in Regensburg. Er schildert faktenreich und anschaulich die Entwicklung im Städtebau und Verkehrswesen sowie den vom NS-Staat durch Industrieansiedlungen vorangetriebenen wirtschaftlichen Aufschwung der Stadt. Halter verschweigt nicht, wie sich der NS-Terror einer willfährigen Stadtverwaltung bediente und diese bis in die letzten Kriegstage den Arbeitseinsatz von Kriegsgefangenen und KZ-Häftlingen organisierte.Aufgrund des erstmals vorliegenden Quellenmaterials aus den Beständen des Stadtarchivs, darunter zahlreiche persönliche Notizen der beiden Bürgermeister und der übrigen städtischen Spitzenbeamten, gelingt Helmut Halter der Nachweis, dass die Stadt unterm Hakenkreuz weit weniger von Staat und Partei gelenkt wurde, als man bisher angenommen hatte.

    Description: Castles and nobility in the Middle Ages are not only considered together in historical research. For the lower nobility in particular, the possession of castles was decisive for the social positioning of the respective noble family. In order to sharpen this connection, the dissertation looks at both together and examines the concrete significance of castles in the formation phase of the lower nobility between 1250 and 1400. The focus of the regional and interdisciplinary study is on noble families and their castles from the area around the Counts of Helfenstein in the region between Geislingen an der Steige and Blaubeuren in the Swabian Alb. It examines aristocratic strategies of homemaking, of positioning themselves in the world. The center of this positioning was the castle. It appears as a spatial and social point of reference, which was important in almost every area of aristocratic life: it was the hub and nucleus of (the exercise of) power, the center of social group affiliations as well as the stage and medium of cultural participation. Castle thus means far more than just the building stock that has possibly survived to this day, but the overall social and spatial phenomenon of a center with many functions. Access to this multifunctional 'castle' phenomenon opened up a wide range of possibilities for the lower nobility and thus opportunities to position themselves in all areas of aristocratic affiliation. In this way, castles can be described as a socio-cultural resource in the sense of the concept of the Collaborative Research Center 1070 RESOURCE CULTURES.

    Description: Mit diesem Buch wird ein bedeutender Akteur auf der politischen Bühne des 16. Jahrhunderts erstmals eingehend gewürdigt. Ferdinand I., der Nachfolger Kaiser Karls V., hat in der Historiographie seit Ranke im Schatten seines älteren Bruders gestanden, dessen loyaler Helfer er jahrzehntelang gewesen ist. Die leitende Frage ist, wie Ferdinand I., der bis 1564 regiert hat, seine Aufgabe als Kaiser begriffen hat, seine Möglichkeiten einschätzte und seine Politik einrichtete. Die Arbeit wertet in größerem Ausmaß bislang ungedrucktes archivalisches Material aus. Es wird nachgewiesen, dass Ferdinands Politik als Kaiser sich deutlich von der Karls V. abhebt, obwohl er an einer wesentlichen Zielsetzung des Bruders festgehalten hat, denn er bemühte sich wie jener aus vorreformatorischem Selbstverständnis als weltliches Haupt der Christenheit bis zu seinem Tod um die Wiederherstellung der zerbrochenen Einheit der Christianitas catholica. Die Untersuchung beginnt beim Augsburger Reichstag von 1555, um die grundlegende Bedeutung der dort unter maßgeblicher Beeinflussung durch Ferdinand erzielten Ergebnisse für seine künftige Haltung und Politik als Kaiser darzutun. Sie behandelt in den folgenden Kapiteln neben seiner Reichspolitik und seiner "Außenpolitik", die auf Bewahrung des Friedens angelegt waren, seine Konzilspolitik, die in seinen Initiativen zur Einberufung und seiner kritischen Begleitung der dritten Periode des Trienter Konzils fassbar ist, und seine Auffassung vom Kaisertum. Sie bestätigt, worin schon Ferdinands Zeitgenossen sein Hauptverdienst gesehen haben: dem Reich eine Epoche relativ sicheren Friedens beschert zu haben.

    Description: The life and miracles of St. Elisabeth of Thuringia are the subject of the 'Life of Elisabeth' by the Eisenach council scribe Johannes Rothe (ca. 1360-1434). Rothe, who had already written spiritual works and three extensive chronicles ('Eisenacher Stadtchronik', 'Thüringische Landeschronik' and 'Weltchronik'), offers a comprehensive rendition of the chronicle and legendary tradition in the rhyming verse legend of over 4,000 verses, whereby, in addition to the chronicles, he particularly exploits the Latin Vita of Dietrich von Apolda. In the formal connection to the legends of the saints and the orientation towards chronicles in terms of content, Rothe adopts a cross-genre standpoint. Elisabeth's life is integrated into the genealogy of the landgrave's dynasty and thus becomes part of the landgrave's memorial culture. In the history of the text's reception, with numerous copies up to the 18th century, there is evidence of corresponding emphases: the work was used partly as a devotional book and partly as part of the dynastic memoria of the Thuringian dynasty.

    Description: Vor dem Hintergrund einer kontinuierlich zunehmenden Pro-Kopf-Wohnfläche und den damit verbundenen negativen Auswirkungen auf Klima und Umwelt sollen mit dieser Arbeit die Bundesförderprogramme auf deren Anreizwirkung bezüglich eines achtsamen Umgangs mit der Ressource Wohnfläche überprüft werden. Der Fokus dieser Arbeit liegt auf den durch die Förderbank KfW durchgeführten Bundesförderprogrammen, die ein wichtiges Instrument der Nachhaltigkeitsstrategie des Bundes im Bereich Wohngebäude bilden. Mithilfe eines Screenings der aktuellen Förderprogramme der KfW sowie durch Gespräche mit Vertretenden der KfW soll kritisch beleuchtet werden, wie sich die derzeit verfolgten Leitbilder der Förderung im Wohngebäudebereich zu dem Leitbild einer achtsamen Wohnflächennutzung verhalten. Zudem sollen mögliche Anknüpfungspunkte für Suffizienzstrategien im Handlungsfeld Wohnfläche identifiziert und in den Kontext des aktuellen Sach- und Forschungsstands gestellt werden. Auf Grundlage der gewonnenen Erkenntnisse soll gezeigt werden, wie Suffizienzstrategien im Handlungsfeld Wohnfläche anhand innovativen Modellvorhaben erprobt werden können, um daraus Erkenntnisse für die Bundesförderung abzuleiten.

    Description: Im Projekt wird ein kreislauffähiges Produktdesign für Kühl-/Gefriergeräte auf Basis von im Labor- und Industriemaßstab ermittelten Daten entwickelt, das gleichermaßen energie- als auch ressourceneffizient ist. Übergreifendes Ziel war die modellhafte Weiterentwicklung eines Konsumgutes, das neben dem bereits bestehenden Fokus auf Energieeffizienz auch das Thema Ressourceneffizienz in den Blick nimmt. In der Konzeptphase wurden dazu verschiedene Ansätze entwickelt und mit einem Bewertungs- und Entscheidungstool ergänzt, das als Standard für weitere Konsumgüter dienen kann. Dabei wurde ein übertragbares Designkonzept zur Kreislaufführung der verwendeten Materialien von Konsumgütern am Beispiel eines Kühl-/Gefriergerät-Prototyps erstellt. Da die dafür erforderlichen Daten in der Literatur sowie über öffentlich zugängliche Datenbanken nicht vorhanden bzw. für Forschungseinrichtungen zugänglich waren, wurden diese über Labor- und Großversuch beim Recycling-Unternehmen Stena (Recular) selbst und damit in jedem Schritt nachvollziehbar erhoben. Auf dieser Grundlage wurden verschiedene Designoptionen, mit dem Fokus auf ein möglichst ressourceneffizientes und reparaturfreundliches Produkt zur Schaffung tatsächlich geschlossener Stoffkreisläufe und von Möglichkeiten für Repair/Reuse sowie neuer Geschäftsmodelle, entwickelt. Die Zusammenführung der Ressourceneffizienzanalyse mit einem multiregional erweiterten Input-Output-Modell wird zukünftig die Abschätzung der Recyclingfähigkeit von Produkten bereits im Designstadium ermöglichen und dadurch ein Design-for-Repair und/oder -Recycling unterstützen.

Für die Ermittlung der Problemrelevanz wurde eine Befragung durchgeführt, sodass Stimmen von herstellenden Firmen und Verbänden, Großhandel, Installateur*innen, Handwerksbetrieben und Reparatureinrichtungen aufgenommen werden konnten. Die Autor*innen sprechen sich grundsätzlich bei beiden Produktgruppen für die Einführung eines Reparierbarkeits-Index aus und weisen darauf hin, dass für diese Produktgruppen die unabhängige Bewertung der Produktlebensdauer ein wichtiger Hebel ist, um die produktbezogenen Umweltauswirkungen zu reduzieren.

    Description: Das zentrale Anliegen des Projektes besteht darin, regionale Stoffkreisläufe in der metallverarbeitenden Industrie zu schließen - mit einem Schwerpunkt auf (Hand-) Werkzeuge und Schneidwaren - sowie dies durch den Einsatz digitaler Technologien zu organisieren und zu optimieren. Das Ziel ist, Ressourcen- und Energieverbräuche zu reduzieren sowie ökonomische Vorteile für die Unternehmen zu realisieren. Im Detail soll es darum gehen, verschlissene metallische Produkte am End-of-Life nicht einer Verwertung durch Umschmelzen zuzuführen, sondern durch Remanufacturing und Repurposing die Nutzungsdauer der mit hohem Energie- und Ressourcenaufwand erzeugten Metalle zu verlängern. Diese Ansätze sollen unternehmensübergreifend aufgestellt werden und erfordern eine digital unterstützte Logistikkette sowie eine vollständige Rückverfolgbarkeit. Eine Rückführung verschlissener Maschinenmesser lohnt sich nach derzeitigem Kenntnisstand nicht, wenn dieses Material nur den Schrottpreis aufweist. Im Projekt "Circle of Tools" soll daher ein neues Geschäftsmodell entwickelt werden, das darauf basiert, sortenreine, qualitativ hochwertige Materialien entweder im primären Herstellungsprozess zu nutzen oder zur Weiterverarbeitung in andere Herstellungsprozesse unternehmensübergreifend zu integrieren. Neben den rein technischen Möglichkeiten werden betriebswirtschaftliche Faktoren, das Ressourceneffizienzpotenzial und der rechtliche Rahmen untersucht. Die in der europäischen Abfallrahmenrichtlinie und dem deutschen Kreislaufwirtschaftsgesetz verankerte Abfallhierarchie geht von der grundsätzlichen ökologischen Vorteilhaftigkeit der unterschiedlichen Stufen aus. Während das stoffliche Recycling von Produkten in der Regel vorteilhafter ist als ihre thermische Verwertung oder Deponierung, sind Reuse/Kaskadennutzung demnach ökologisch vorteilhafter als sämtliche Recyclingtechnologien. Die Datenlage ist hier jedoch im Vergleich zu vielen Recyclingtechnologien noch äußerst lückenhaft und unsystematisch. Einzelne Untersuchungen weisen jedoch auf signifikante Ressourceneffizienzpotenziale hin. Abschätzungen zeigen, dass die in diesem Vorhaben angedachte Reuse-/Kaskadennutzung zu einer Einsparung von 300 Tonnen Primär-Werkzeugstahl führen könnte. Das Vorhaben kann diese signifikanten Potenziale nachweisen und gleichzeitig geeignete und übertragbare Geschäftsmodelle aufzeigen. Auf Grundlage der empirischen Erhebungen werden im Projekt genaue Wirkungen berechnet für folgende Fragen: (1) Welche Mengen an Rohstoffe können durch Remanufacturing/Repurposing eingespart werden? (2) Welche ökonomische Wertschöpfung ist damit zu erzielen? (3) Wie ist ein Remanufacturing/Repurposing im Vergleich zu anderen Verwertungsverfahren ökologisch und ökonomisch einzuschätzen?

The focus is on the social potentials, normative and regulative effects of languages as well as their use for marking dangers and orienting attention. This shows that language can be both an object and an instrument of vigilance and can itself become a medium of reflection of vigilance.

    Description: Dieser Sammelband setzt sich mit den Deutschlandbildern in Belgien bis zum Beginn der deutschen Okkupation im Jahre 1940 auseinander. Betrachtet werden diese aus Sicht unterschiedlicher Geisteswissenschaften wie Philosophie, Literatur, Geschichte, Kunstgeschichte und Musikwissenschaft. Die traditionellen Topoi der deutschen Imagologie, die überall in Europa eine große Resonanz gefunden haben (das romantische Deutschland, das Land der Dichter und Denker, aber ab dem Krieg von 1870 auch das preußische Feindbild), werden dabei in Betracht gezogen. Konstitutiv für den Prozess der Identitätsbildung in Belgien bis zum Ersten Weltkrieg war die deutsch-germanische Komponente, die in der Metapher der sog. âme belge als Kultursynthese zum Ausdruck kam. Der Ausbruch des Ersten Weltkriegs hat hier besonders traumatisch gewirkt, was zur Folge hatte, dass diese partielle „Zugehörigkeit“ Belgiens zur deutschen Kultursphäre drastisch neuevaluiert wurde, unabhängig von der Schaffung eines deutschsprachigen Gebiets in Belgien durch den Versailler Vertrag.

    Description: Neben der Biblia pauperum ist das Speculum humanae salvationis das wohl bekannteste typologische Werk des Mittelalters. Vom lateinischen Text sind 328 handschriftliche mittelalterliche Quellen überliefert. Von seiner Popularität zeugen überdies Übersetzungen ins Deutsche, Französische, Niederländische, Englische und Tschechische. Diese Arbeit stellt eine der beiden niederländischen Fassungen des Speculum, und zwar die Prosaübersetzung aus dem Jahre 1464, in den Mittelpunkt. Neben Struktur und Funktion des lateinischen Textes werden in einem chronologisch-thematisch organisierten status quaestionis die Accessusfragen nach Herkunft und Autorschaft des Speculum erörtert. Vom mittelniederländischen Prosa-Spieghel werden eine genaue kodikologische Beschreibung und eine breit angelegte Analyse der Sprache geboten. Auch der literaturhistorische Kontext und die Übersetzungs- und Bearbeitungstechnik werden eingehen behandelt. Die kritische Edition nach der Haarlemer Handschrift erfüllt ein altes Forschungsdesiderat, indem sie sowohl den Vergleich mit der bereits vor mehr als einem halben Jahrhundert herausgegebenen Versübertragung ermöglicht, als auch eine eminent wichtige Schnittstelle zwischen handschriftlicher und gedruckter Tradition in den Niederlanden für die Forschung zugänglich macht.

    Description: This study deals with aspectuality in Resian, a Slovene-based variety of north-eastern Italy, and the probable role of Romance influence on developments in this domain. In part, these findings are compared with the situation found with other non-Romance linguistic varieties spoken in Italy, especially Molise Slavic. The functional-semantic field of aspectuality is considered both in relation to its grammatical centre, viz. verbal aspect, and its lexical periphery. Language contact plays an important role in the almost complete transition of the Resian dual aspect system to a purely derivational opposition “imperfective : perfective”, also absorbing most of its prior morphosyntactic opposition “imperfect : aorist : perfect”. Furthermore, the special aspectual selection properties of phasal verbs and the role of aspect in the functions of modal verbs merit particular mention in this respect. In the case of lexical and periphrastic means of expression, a number of calqued progressive and prospective (imminent) periphrases, mostly calqued from Romance models, are discussed.

Viele Protestbewegungen kamen erst in den 1970er Jahren zur vollen Entfaltung, andere radikalisierten sich und prägten anschließend die öffentlichen Diskussionen. Schaut man auf die gesellschaftlichen Reformen, die mit den 1960er Jahren in Verbindung gebracht werden, dann gilt auch hier, dass die 1970er Jahre das wichtigere Jahrzehnt waren. Es ist vor diesem Hintergrund nicht verwunderlich, dass den 1970er Jahren in der internationalen Geschichtsschreibung immer mehr Aufmerksamkeit geschenkt wird.     Description: This article shows that particle verbs in Burgenland Croatian – a notable morphosyntactic phenomenon of language contact – may form aspectual pairs in a typically Slavic manner. Particle-based pairs with an indigenous base verb are formed by means of suffixation, suffix opposition, suppletion or prefixation. In the case of spatial relations, by contrast, preverbs predominate over prefixes, leading to a reduction of the old inventory of verbal compounds. Nevertheless, preverbs are only rarely obligatory in the formation of aspectual pairs. In the case of borrowings, only prefixation is productive, which might be attributed to German (and Hungarian) influence. On a par with other aspectual pairs, particle-based formations may express taxis relations (sequence, simultaneity, incidence). Language contact possibly contributed to the preservation of the Contextually Conditioned Imperfective Past also in imperfective particle verbs.

    Description: In der zweiten Hälfte des 4. Jahrhunderts erfand ein unbekannter Autor einen Briefwechsel zwischen Seneca und Paulus. Die vierzehn kurzen Briefe, acht vom Philosophen, sechs vom Apostel, sind in sehr schlechtem spätantikem Latein geschrieben und weitgehend inhaltslos. Ihr Ziel ist es, mittels eines Austauschs von freundschaftlichen Billetts, wie er unter den Intellektuellen der Spätantike üblich war, Seneca zum Freund des Paulus zu machen und so das hohe Ansehen Senecas in der spätantiken lateinischen Theologie apostolisch zu sanktionieren. Diese Fiktion war sehr erfolgreich und regte im Laufe der Geschichte immer wieder zu Spekulationen über das Verhältnis zwischen Stoa und Christentum an. Dieser Band bietet eine neue Übersetzung des Briefwechsels auf der Basis der neuesten kritischen Edition, versehen mit einer Einleitung, Erläuterungen und Testimonien. Ferner werden zwei wenig bekannte Texte aus dem Umfeld des Briefwechsels abgedruckt, erstmals übersetzt und erläutert: ein angeblicher Brief des Mordechai an Alexander den Großen aus einer Fassung des Alexanderromans und ein Brief Senecas über Hochmut und Götterbilder, eine christliche Apologie aus dem 5. Jahrhundert. Die Essays behandeln zentrale Probleme des Verhältnisses zwischen Stoa und Christentum (Gottesbild und Ethik) sowie die Seneca-Rezeption vom Mittelalter bis in die frühe Neuzeit.

    Description: The article provides a survey of aspect-tense (AT) grams in (North) Slavic and Baltic, with some account of Finnic. More recently developed grams (bound morphology and constructions) are evaluated against a deeper diachronic and larger areal backdrop in order to assess the significance of contact as a factor contributing to convergence of Slavic and Baltic varieties in the AT domain. In fact, the amount of actually converging features related to grammatical oppositions in this area is quite small; these are: (i) Prominent parallels in the strict subject- vs. object-oriented division of perfects in Slavic (mainly Belarusian) rural varieties, which must have been supported by an ancient and very stable Baltic model. (ii) Suffixation patterns of stem derivation in Aukštaitian Lithuanian resembling Slavic secondary imperfectivisation. The reasons for a generally low level of mutual influence between Baltic and Slavic are subjected to some methodological discussion.

Viele wurden durch Agitation und Abstimmung tief beeindruckt, sogar die Archive des Gebiets mussten geteilt werden. Nordschleswig wurde als ein Teil des Königreichs Dänemarks einverleibt. Diese wurde von einem nordschleswigschen Ministerium vorbereitet und kam bei der Konstruktion der Grenze sowie in Schule und Kirche zum Ausdruck. Die deutsche Minderheit widersetzte sich der Integration und während der Krisenjahre entstanden extreme politische Bewegungen. Diese Folgen werden in diesem Buch thematisiert, das ein Ergebnis einer deutsch-dänischen Zusammenarbeit zwischen dem Landesarchiv Schleswig-Holstein und dem Rigsarkivet Aabenraa mit dem Studienzentrum für die Geschichte Schleswigs ist.

    Description: In den deutschen Landen wurde noch das ganze 18. Jahrhundert hindurch die Wirkungsmacht von Teufel und Dämonen heftig diskutiert. Gegner der Hexenverfolgungen und Kritiker einiger Aufsehen erregender Fälle von Exorzismus führten philosophische, namentlich cartesianische, und theologische Argumente ins Feld; bei der Exegese der einschlägigen Bibelstellen wandten sie das Akkomodationsprinzip und neue kritisch-filologische Methoden an. Sie beriefen sich fast allesamt auf den niederländischen Pastor Balthasar Bekker (1634–1698), der mit seiner Betoverde Weereld (1691–1693) dem Aberglauben ein Ende setzen und die Aufklärung im Protestantismus als eine „zweite Reformation“ vorantreiben wollte. Die zahlreichen deutschen Reaktionen auf Bekker in den Jahren zwischen der ersten (1693) und der zweiten (1781–82) Verdeutschung seiner Schrift werden in der vorliegenden Arbeit erstmals detailliert analysiert, um so seinen Einfluss auf das deutsche Geistesleben sowie seine gesellschaftliche Wirkung dort zu rekonstruieren.     Description: Hoffmann von Fallersleben unternahm 1819 seine erste Reise in die Niederlande. Zahlreiche Werke Hoffmanns bezeugen sein Interesse für das niederländische Sprachgebiet. Aus seiner Autobiographie, seinen Tagebüchern, Notizen, den Vorlesungen, der Korrespondenz sowie aus seinen Zeitungsartikeln lassen sich Erkenntnisse über seine Beziehungen in die Niederlande und nach Belgien ableiten. Aber weder die Beziehungen noch sein Belgien- und Niederlandebild sind bis heute erschöpfend erforscht worden. Diese Untersuchung will Hoffmanns Beziehungen zu den Niederlanden und zum nachmaligen Belgien sowie das Netzwerk, das er dort aufbaute, anhand seiner Korrespondenz und der Akten zu seiner Person rekonstruieren. Hoffmann schildert ein diffuses Bild der Nachbarn, das von einer deutsch-nationalen Einstellung geprägt ist. Zu fragen ist, ob sein positives Verhalten und seine negativen Äußerungen lediglich ideologisch motiviert waren und vorwiegend daher rührten, daß er, wie viele deutsche Intellektuelle im 19. Jahrhundert, versuchte, die Niederlande und Belgien einem deutschen Staatsgefüge einzugliedern, oder ob er vielmehr als Kulturvermittler zu gelten hat. Hoffmanns Briefwechsel umfaßt, soweit sich jetzt feststellen läßt, über 7000 Briefe, die hier erstmals in einem Verzeichnis erfaßt sind. Daneben werden unveröffentlichte Materialien aus deutschen, belgischen und niederländischen Archiven, die bisher in der Forschung nicht berücksichtigt wurden, vorgestellt.

    Description: This paper deals with the Upper Sorbian aspect categories. While the traditional inflectional opposition imperfect vs. aorist is still widely used in the standard variety, it has almost disappeared from the colloquial variety used in the Catholic area of Upper Lusatia in Eastern Germany. By contrast, the derivational opposition of perfectivity formally persists in this area but has undergone some changes which are very specific to this variety. In particular, this aspect opposition, expressed by means of prefixes and suffixes has been radically restructured, such that its functional domain has shifted from grammatical aspect to grammatical telicity. It is argued that the starting point of this change is to be sought in an identification of the Sorbian aspect-sensitive grammatical prefixes with the German prefixes which mainly express telicity in processes of word formation. Special usages dealt with in this study are, on the one hand, the expression of habituality through (formally) imperfective verbs and, surprisingly, the expression of ongoing telic processes, but also of the analytical future, by means of their perfective correlates, on the other.

Car sharing can contribute significantly to reducing the number of private cars. Nevertheless, it remains in the niche. This work looks for the reasons for this niche existence and does so with a focus on different stakeholder groups. In addition to the presentation of the effects of influence as well as their classification and evaluation on the basis of the Stakeholder Salience Model by Mitchell et al., the author gives recommendations for action on how an expansion of car sharing in Germany can be achieved.

(Fritz) Wiehert fest, es sei überraschend, wie wenig die Deutschen über die Niederlande und wie wenig die Niederländer über Deutschland wüssten, trotz oder gerade wegen der nachbarlichen Nähe. Was wurde unternommen, welche Mittel wurden eingesetzt, um die Niederlande zu einer Parteinahme zu bewegen oder sie Deutschland wenigstens gewogen zu stimmen? Hier ist vor allem der in Den Haag tätigen geheimen Hilfsstelle eine wichtige Rolle zuzuschreiben. Ihre Aufgabe war es, das neutrale Nachbarland durch kulturelle Mittel deutschfreundlich zu beeinflussen mit der Zielvorgabe, die Niederlande in einen kulturellen Außenposten im Sinne des Deutschen Reiches zu verwandeln.

Halt an einem Menschen gefunden, der ihn über sieben Jahre in allen innen- und außenpolitischen Fragen beriet und lenkte: Carl Wilhelm Saegert, Leiter der Taubstummenanstalt in Berlin und seit 1853 Inspektor des preußischen Taubstummenwesens. Als sich die Verhältnisse in Berlin nach der Revolution konsolidierten, war es für Saegert unmöglich, wegen seiner fehlenden Ausbildung und seiner bürgerlichen Herkunft in der Führungshierarchie anerkannt zu werden. Der König verließ sich aber weiterhin auf ihn nahezu blindlings, und Saegert mußte die undankbare Rolle des geheimen Beraters spielen, der nur durch die Bediententür Zugang zum König fand. – Die Edition bringt eine Auswahl der politisch relevanten Teile der Korrespondenz für die Jahre 1848–1856. Die Korrespondenz wird ergänzt durch das ungekürzte Tagebuch Saegerts für die Revolutionsmonate März bis November 1848.

Es sollte seiner Meinung nach jedem möglich sein, seine Auffassungen auf einem offenen religiösen Marktplatz darzubieten. Dadurch half er den „Halleschen Pietismus“ mit vorzubereiten. Sein Leben und Wirken, seine Motivation und Ideen werden in einem niederländischen und einem deutschen Kontext eingeordnet. Außerdem werden die symbolischen „Netze der Bedeutung“, in denen er eingebunden war, einer näheren Untersuchung unterzogen. Die Arbeit versucht zu zeigen, dass es eine Verbindung zwischen Breckling und der niederländischen Frühaufklärung gegeben hat.

    Description: This paper has two main objectives, to present some essential aspectual properties of Molise Slavic in comparison with other varieties in situations of strong language contact, and to discuss the role of language contact in each of these. Besides the grammatical categories of verbal aspect in the narrow sense, we deal with several more or less grammaticalised periphrases that also express aspectual functions or whose usage, at least, is triggered under the influence of verbal aspect. As in some other Slavic languages, having preserved traces of the original dual aspect system, Molise Slavic still displays a morphosyntactic aspectual opposition expressed by means of the perfect vs. imperfect, in addition to the Slavic derivational opposition between perfective vs. imperfective. Both oppositions combine with each other. The role of Romance in the reorganisation of these categories is discussed. The most salient innovation from a formal perspective is the imminentive calqued from Italian, but combinations of full verbs with phasal and modal verbs also show Romance influence. The results of the influence of dominant varieties on Molise Slavic in the area of aspectuality are compared with the development and behaviour of corresponding phenomena in the other languages and language families presented in this volume, in particular Resian and Slavic minority languages in Austria and Germany, Italo-Albanian, Italo-Greek, Baltic, German-based varieties in Northern Italy and Macedonian-based varieties in Albania and North Macedonia.

    Description: Esse-perfect in Macedonian: lexical distribution and contextual restrictions - The present article deals with the esse-perfect in Macedonian, also found in Aromanian and some Albanian dialects, which is formed with verbs of both aspects by means of the auxiliary sum ‘to be’ plus the (formally) passive participle. In contrast to previous work on this topic, our research sets out to determine the domains of usage for this construction in Macedonian, both in the standard language and its dialects, especially those on the western periphery and in linguistic enclaves surrounded by Albanian-speaking communities. In addition to personal fieldwork, three main corpora serve as a material basis for this task; see the list of sources at the end of the article. The formation of the esse-perfect is rather limited when compared with the other two perfects of Macedonian. In particular, its distribution clearly depends on lexical verb classes, with language contact accounting for less rigid restrictions and a wider usage of this construction.

    Description: In der augusteischen Epoche (1694–1763) entwickelte sich die sächsische Residenzstadt Dresden zu einem kulturellen Zentrum des Reichs. Neue Personennetzwerke und Handelswege setzten Wissenstransfers in Gang, wobei die Verbindung zu Frankreich eine herausragende Rolle einnahm. Diese Studie richtet daher den Blick auf die Vielzahl der Französinnen und Franzosen, die für kurze oder längere Zeit in die sächsische Hauptstadt kamen. Anhand von zahlreichen Quellen aus deutschen und französischen Archiven werden die in Frankreich liegenden Voraussetzungen dieser Reisen, die sozialen Modalitäten und schließlich das französische Wirken am Hof und in der Stadt betrachtet. Dadurch entsteht ein facettenreiches, akteurszentriertes Bild des französisch-sächsischen Kulturtransfers.

De nouveaux réseaux de personnes et de nouvelles voies commerciales mettent en place des transferts de connaissances, parmi lesquels les liens avec la France jouent un rôle prépondérant. Cette étude se penche donc sur le grand nombre de Françaises et de Français qui, à cette époque, séjournent dans la capitale saxonne pour des périodes plus ou moins longues. Les conditions préalables en France, les modalités sociales et enfin l’action française à la cour et dans la ville sont examinées à l’aide de nombreuses sources issues d’archives françaises et allemandes. Il en résulte un portrait centré sur les acteurs et à multiples facettes du transfert culturel franco-saxon.
    Description: In the Augustan era (1694–1763), the Saxon residence city of Dresden developed into a cultural centre of the Holy Roman Empire. New networks and trade routes set knowledge transfers in motion, with connections to France taking on a prominent role. This study therefore focuses on the large number of French people who came to the Saxon capital for short or long periods of time. The study includes an examination of the French prerequisites of these journeys, the social modalities and finally the French activities at court and in the city based on numerous sources from German and French archives. In this way, Christian Gründig draws a multifaceted, actor-centred picture of Franco-Saxon cultural transfer.

    Description: Verbal aspect in the Macedonian dialect of Boboshtica-Drenova and Albanian-Slavic language contact - Long-term subdominant bilingualism with Albanian has had a significant impact on verbal aspect marking in the Macedonian dialect of Boboshtica-Drenova (South-East Albania). The Slavic formal opposition of perfective and imperfective aspect marked through a variety of derivational methods has been preserved. However, under Albanian influence two continuous aspect con­structions have been grammaticalised in the dialect, one of them based on the locative ǵe, and the other on the adversative conjunction toko. The paths of grammaticalization of these markers are investigated, which include structural transfer (ǵe 〈 locative and temporal tek, toko 〈 adversative and continuous po), which is partially supported by the phonetic similarity between the respective Albanian and Macedonian dialectal markers (toko || duke, tek).

    Description: Dem niederländischen Regierungssitz Den Haag kam durch die weit ausgreifende Politik der Republik zwischen den westfälischen Friedensschlüssen und den ersten beiden Jahrzehnten des 18. Jahrhunderts eine Schlüsselstellung im europäischen Gesandtschaftswesen zu. In den Kriegen, die auf die Epochenwende 1648 und 1659/60 folgten, wurde nicht mehr wie in den vorhergehenden Religionskriegen um die Existenz gerungen, sondern um die Aufrechterhaltung oder Wiederherstellung einer gedachten Machtbalance. Daraus erwuchs den Gesandten eine neue Aufgabenfülle und politische Rolle. Das blieb nicht ohne Wirkung auf die Gesandten, die Veränderungen nicht nur ertrugen, sondern zunehmend selbst gestaltend eingriffen. Diese dynamischen Prozesse in der Arbeitsweise von Gesandten dreier Höfe am niederländischen Regierungssitz Den Haag stehen im Mittelpunkt der vorliegenden Arbeit. Indem aufgearbeitet wird, wie Den Haag von einem Treffpunkt von Gesandten zum Brennpunkt europäischer Diplomatie wurde, möchte die vorliegende Studie einen Beitrag zur Geschichte des Gesandtschaftswesens im frühneuzeitlichen Europa leisten.

    Description: Dieser Sammelband setzt sich mit den Deutschlandbildern in Belgien bis zum Beginn der deutschen Okkupation im Jahre 1940 auseinander. Betrachtet werden diese aus Sicht unterschiedlicher Geisteswissenschaften wie Philosophie, Literatur, Geschichte, Kunstgeschichte und Musikwissenschaft. Die traditionellen Topoi der deutschen Imagologie, die überall in Europa eine große Resonanz gefunden haben (das romantische Deutschland, das Land der Dichter und Denker, aber ab dem Krieg von 1870 auch das preußische Feindbild), werden dabei in Betracht gezogen. Konstitutiv für den Prozess der Identitätsbildung in Belgien bis zum Ersten Weltkrieg war die deutsch-germanische Komponente, die in der Metapher der sog. âme belge als Kultursynthese zum Ausdruck kam. Der Ausbruch des Ersten Weltkriegs hat hier besonders traumatisch gewirkt, was zur Folge hatte, dass diese partielle „Zugehörigkeit“ Belgiens zur deutschen Kultursphäre drastisch neuevaluiert wurde, unabhängig von der Schaffung eines deutschsprachigen Gebiets in Belgien durch den Versailler Vertrag.

    Description: »The Higher Education System of the City of Königsberg in Prussia 1800 to 1915«: The study is the first to present the secondary school system of the capital and royal seat Königsberg in Prussia in the period from 1800 to 1915 – against the background of striking supraregional events affecting the entire state of Prussia. The author explores the regional characteristics of the ›Gymnasien‹ as well as the development of the ›Realanstalten‹ and the higher education of girls. Among the eight schools included, the ›Königliches Friedrichs-Kollegium‹ occupies a prominent position because of its model character for all of Prussia. Wilhelm von Humboldt‘s activities in Königsberg, which were fundamental for the school reform from 1809 onwards, and the Königsberg school plan he developed there are dealt with in detail by the author. In accordance with Humboldt‘s goal of equal status for the subjects Latin and Greek, mathematics and history, these and the corresponding teaching subjects as well as research at Königsberg University are considered in detail. A separate chapter is devoted to the reception of Humboldt‘s school concept in the Baltic provinces.

Die Autorin erforscht die regionalen Besonderheiten der Gymnasien sowie die Entwicklung der Realanstalten und der höheren Mädchenbildung. Unter den acht einbezogenen Schulen nimmt das Königliche Friedrichs-Kollegium wegen seines Modellcharakters für ganz Preußen eine hervorgehobene Stellung ein. Auf die für die Schulreform ab 1809 grundlegende Tätigkeit Wilhelm von Humboldts in Königsberg und seinen dort entwickelten Königsberger Schulplan geht die Autorin umfassend ein. Gemäß der von Humboldt angestrebten Gleichrangigkeit der Fächer Latein und Griechisch, Mathematik und Geschichte werden diese und die entsprechenden Lehrfächer sowie die Forschung an der Königsberger Universität detailliert betrachtet. Der Rezeption von Humboldts Schulkonzept in den baltischen Ostseeprovinzen ist ein eigenes Kapitel gewidmet. Die Arbeit wurde ausgezeichnet mit dem Gierschke-Dornburg-Preis 2021.

    Description: This article sets out to present a recent study of progressive and prospective periphrases in Cimbrian, a German-based variety spoken in Northern Italy. Our research complements a renewed interest in the grammaticalization processes of progressive periphrases in inland-German dialects and standard German, focusing on German-based dialects that are spoken in isolation, namely not under the roof of Standard German. In such varieties similar processes take place; they show, however, accelerated dynamics due to the contact situation and can, thus, shed light on the diachrony of German and its dialects. In relation to the aspectual constructions in Cimbrian, we discovered a previously undocumented perspective periphrasis, viz. soin drumauz + zu-INF, which, however, is destined to be discarded from the aspectual system of Cimbrian on account of the expansion of the more general periphrasis soin nå + zu-INF. In terms of the dynamics of contact-induced grammar change, our research confirms that new constructions in a contact language are not simply the replication of those in the donor language but, rather, represent the internal recombination of abstract features in the aspectual system of Cimbrian.

    Description: The early modern period applies to be the age of wars and military conflicts. But every military attack or combat action was followed of a truce or a peace treaty. But how were those changes in state conveyed into society and which reactions were aroused? This thesis concentrates on occasional poetry as a part of the early modern media to convey the message of peace, the representation of peace and respective strategies of legitimacy of a certain peace treaty and therefore, identifies early modern ideas and concepts of peace. The focus is on selected peace treaties between 1648 and 1763. The comparative method allows to draw conclusions on historical continuity and historical changes.

    Description: Der Anteil erneuerbarer Energien bei der Wärme- (und Kälte-)Versorgung lag 2021 in Deutschland bei 16,5 % (knapp 200 TWh/a). Davon stammten 86 % aus Biomasse und davon wiederum 47% allein aus Holzfeuerungen im häuslichen Bereich. Der Rest der erneuerbaren Wärme stammte aus oberflächennaher Geothermie und Umgebungswärme (Wärmepumpen) mit 9 % und Solarthermie mit 4,2 %. Bisher vergleichsweise kleine Beiträge stammten aus der tiefen Geothermie. Im Jahr 2021 waren bezogen auf die rund 21 Millionen im Bestand befindlichen Einzelgebäudeheizanlagen (nicht Einzelraumfeuerstätten) 1,1 Mio. Wärmepumpen und 0,9 Mio. Biomassekessel im Betrieb. Hinzu kommen zusätzliche 2,5 Mio. solarthermische Anlagen mit einer Gesamtkollektorfläche von rund 21 Mio. m2. Bei den neu installierten Wärmeerzeugern konnten Wärmepumpen und Biomassekessel auch 2021 einen deutlich steigenden Absatz verzeichnen, wobei ihr Anteil an den insgesamt rund 930.000 neu installierten Wärmerzeugern bei knapp 25% lag. Doch 2021 nutzten immer noch rund 19 Mio. Wärmeerzeuger Gas und Öl. Darüber hinaus müssen in Wohngebäuden auch noch Etagenheizungen und veraltete Biomasseheizsysteme ausgetauscht werden. Für eine erfolgreiche Wärmewende bis 2045 im Gebäudewärmebereich müssen also weiterhin jedes Jahr rund eine Million neue komplett Erneuerbare-Heizanlagen installiert und in Betrieb genommen werden. Nach dem Anschluss an zumindest perspektivisch vollständig erneuerbar versorgte Wärmenetze sind für alle anderen Objekte Wärmepumpen, Wärmepumpen-Biomasse-Hybride und, nur wo es keine anderen Möglichkeiten gibt, reine Biomassekessel zu installieren. Alle Lösungen lassen sich zusätzlich mit Solarthermieanlagen ergänzen. Im Vergleich zu Erdgasthermen ist jedoch allein die Installation der deutlich komplexeren Systeme mit mindestens dem doppelten Zeitaufwand zu veranschlagen, während die Branche bereits heute über einen realen Fachkräftemangel klagt. Es braucht also wirksame Lösungsansätze der Forschung zur Überwindung dieser und vieler anderer Hemmnisse zur erfolgreichen Wärmewende bis 2045.

    Industrielle Prozesswärme im Kontext eines treibhausgasneutralen Energiesystems (2023)

    Description: Im Rahmen einer aktuellen Studie zur Transformation des Europäischen Energiesystems zur Klimaneutralität unter Berücksichtigung der Gaskrise entwickelte das Wuppertal Institut ein Szenario (EU27+UK) für die Transformation der europäischen Industrie inklusive Raffinerien und Kokereien, in dem die industriellen Treibhausgasemissionen bis zum Jahr 2050 um 99 % gegenüber 2018 gemindert werden. Der Endenergiebedarf der Industrie sinkt in diesem Szenario durch den Einsatz von Wärmepumpen, andere Energieeffizienzmaßnahmen sowie einen Rückgang der Produktion in Raffinerien bis 2040 deutlich und der Bedarf an fossilen Gasen kann zeitnah gemindert und bis 2045 auf nahezu Null gesenkt werden. Im Rahmen dieses Szenarios erfolgte auch eine detaillierte Abbildung der Entwicklung der Prozesswärmebereitstellung in Deutschland. Die Bereit- stellung von Niedertemperaturwärme (〈 150 °C) erfolgt im Szenario größtenteils über Wärmepumpen und Fernwärme. Solar- und Geothermie spielen eine (kleinere) Rolle. Für die Dampfbereitstellung (150 - 500 °C) werden vielfach hybride Strom/H2-Kessel eingesetzt, daneben Biomasse. In der Chemieindustrie spielen auch langfristig Reststoffe aus Steamcrackern eine wichtige Rolle. Die Bereitstellung von Hochtemperaturwärme erfolgt prozessspezifisch je nach den technischen Gegebenheiten der Prozesse (z. B. H2 in den Direktreduktions- anlagen und Biomasse in den Walzwerken der Stahlindustrie, abfallbasierte Brennstoffe vor allem in den Klinkeröfen der Zementindustrie, Biomethan und Strom in der Glasindustrie, Strom für Primär- und Sekundäraluminium). Biogene Energieträger in Kombination mit CCS (BECCS) ermöglichen in der Stahlindustrie und in der mineralischen Industrie die Bereitstellung von Hochtemperaturwärme und gleichzeitig negative Emissionen zur Kompensation von Restemissionen.

Entsprechend sind die Potenziale zur Erschließung von Dekarbonisierungserfolgen im Wärmesektor besonders groß. Ein Gelingen der Wärmewende ist daher zwingende Voraussetzung dafür, dass die nationalen Klimaschutzziele erreicht werden. Gerade Städte spielen auf Grund des hohen Energie- und Ressourcenverbrauchs, der hohen örtlichen Dichte von Infrastrukturen und durch die Vielzahl von Akteuren eine zentrale Rolle bei der Energiewende und für den Klimaschutz. So bilden beispielsweise gewachsene Strukturen im Bestand und hohe Nutzungsdichten potenzielle Restriktionen für die Integration von Technologien zur effizienten Nutzung erneuerbarer Energiequellen. Städtische Quartiere sind gleichzeitig der sinnvollste Umsetzungsmaßstab für integrierte innovative Systeme, da hier die größten Synergieeffekte zwischen Effizienzmaßnahmen und nachhaltiger Energieerzeugung erschlossen werden können.

    Description: Umsetzung wie auch Förderung der Industrietransformation obliegen insbesondere Akteuren auf der europäischen sowie der nationalen Governance-Ebene. Gleichwohl sind vor dem Hintergrund der Dringlichkeit der Herausforderung und der Maßstabsebene eines Großteils der erforderlichen Maßnahmen auch kommunale Akteure und lokale Initiativen, darunter öffentliche Betreiber, Verwaltungen, öffentlich-private Kooperationen, Unternehmen oder zivilgesellschaftliche Gruppen in diesem Bereich von Bedeutung. Das liegt auch an der Tatsache, dass je nach wirtschaftlicher Struktur die Industrie für einen großen Teil der Treibhausgasemissionen in einer Kommune oder Region verantwortlich sein kann. Gleichzeitig gibt es vielfältige Stellschrauben vor Ort, um Klimaschutzmaßnahmen umzusetzen. Aufgrund der hohen Dichte an Akteuren und Institutionen bestehen auf der kommunalen Ebene große Handlungsmöglichkeiten für nachhaltige Transformationen, etwa im Bereich des Klimaschutzes. Viele Kommunen setzen in ihren Klimaschutzkonzepten allerdings einen Schwerpunkt auf andere Bereiche, wie bspw. auf Klimaschutz bei öffentlichen Gebäuden, auch wegen der direkten Handlungsmöglichkeiten. Um die Industrie zu adressieren, greift die Kommunalverwaltung vornehmlich auf Beratungsangebote und Anreize zur Nutzung von erneuerbaren Energien zurück. Dabei gewinnt das Thema Klimaschutz gleichermaßen für Unternehmen wie auch für Kommunen immer weiter an Bedeutung. Für beide ist schon heute Klimaschutz ein wichtiger Wettbewerbs- und Standortfaktor. Die bislang auf (Landes-)Politik, Unternehmen und Wissenschaft fokussierte Analyse der Industrietransformation in SCI4climate.NRW erweitert mit diesem Bericht den Blick auf die Einbindung und Rolle kommunaler Akteure, Strukturen und Prozesse. Es wird der Frage nachgegangen, welche Einflussmöglichkeiten Kommunen im Mehrebenen-Governance System der Industrietransformation in NRW haben und welche Interessen, Chancen und Herausforderungen seitens der Kommunen bestehen, um die Industrietransformation mitzugestalten. Der Fokus wird dabei auf die Grundstoffindustrie, konkret auf die Chemie-, Stahl- und Zementindustrie, gelegt, da diese Industriezweige mit sehr hohen Treibhausgasemissionen verbunden sind und bislang bei der Frage nach kommunalen Handlungsmöglichkeiten von der Forschung noch wenig betrachtet wurden. Neben einer Literaturrecherche werden drei Fallstudien präsentiert, um sowohl die Möglichkeiten der Kommunen zu analysieren, aktuelle Aktivitäten einzuordnen sowie Chancen und Herausforderungen, die mit den Tätigkeiten verbunden sind, zu ermitteln.
