    The forms and functions of modal verbs in sections of the English tourism research articles (2023)

    Description: Resumen (revisado) The tourism research article (RA) has not been the focus of many studies. This volume offers a description of the genre in terms of section, besides an analysis of the most used language features in each section of the RA. Among these are the presence of modal verbs. Precisely, the goal of this work is to describe their use, meaning and functions in a corpus of the "introduction" and "conclusion" sections of the RA in tourist studies. The compilations included texts from leading journals in the area. The method of inquiry includes corpus linguistics tools to analyze texts as well as specific examples to show how these forms behave in the RAs. The analysis of context is also essential in order to identify the exact meanings of modal verbs, and for that reason visual inspection of each sample is mandatory. The discussion of the evidence obtained is accounted for by studies in the domain of functional linguistics. The conclusions show that formal variation exists in the introduction and the conclusion sections.This also applies to their meanings. Dynamic modality is attested to be more recurrent in the introductions and epistemic modality is preferred in the concluding sections. The functions performed by these modals are varied to feature interpersonal and textual cues in the elaboration of meaning in the RA.

The exercises are related to the industrial engineering industry and are based on puzzles, tests, fictional dialogues, search and use of objects, and other skill games. This material aims to make the learning process more engaging with active exercises immersed in the fictional reality of a video game.

    Description: Are children under 2 years old exposed to apps? Which ones? How often? What kind of apps would be best suited for small children based on their physical and cognitive development, the evolution of their play patterns and their ability to interact with mobile devices? How to design apps as appropriate as possible for children under 2 years old? These are some of the main questions that are answered through the research presented in this publication. An investigation that demonstrates that children under 2 years of age in Spain are playing with apps and highlights the relevance of generating supporting documentation, for improving the use and the design of apps for such a vulnerable target. The research presents pioneering information for the industry and developers with specific proposals on how to design children's apps taking into consideration children's development and their possibilities in terms of recreational, educational, graphical and interactive content. The information also supports educators and parents when it comes to choosing apps and defining the ways of use that may be most appropriate for each child in each age group.

    Description: ¿Están los menores de 2 años expuestos a apps? ¿Cuáles? ¿Con qué frecuencia? ¿Qué tipo de apps serían más adecuadas para los pequeños según su desarrollo físico, cognitivo, la evolución de sus formas de juego y sus posibilidades de interacción con dispositivos móviles? ¿Cómo diseñar apps lo más apropiadas posible para niños menores de 2 años? Estas son algunas de las principales preguntas que se responden a través de la investigación presentada en la publicación. Una investigación que demuestra que los niños menores de dos años en España están jugando con apps y resalta la relevancia que cobra generar documentación de apoyo tanto para la mejora en el uso como en el diseño de apps para un target tan vulnerable. Desde la investigación se presenta una información pionera para la industria y los desarrolladores con propuestas concretas sobre como diseñar apps infantiles teniendo en consideración el desarrollo del niño y sus posibilidades a nivel de contenido lúdico, educativo, gráfico e interactivo. La información también sirve de apoyo para educadores y padres a la hora de elegir apps y defnir las formas de uso que puedan resultar más adecuadas para cada niño en cada tramo de edad.
