    Description: The volume provides an overview of the results obtained in the Final Synthesis Laboratory in Modern Restoration, conducted by professors Gianluigi de Martino and Marella Santangelo within the Master's Degree Course in Architectural Design at the University of Naples "Federico II". Through work on the city of Pontinia, the laboratory selected and investigated the heritage of modern architecture produced during the “Fascist Ventennio”, proposing restoration projects capable of combining historical memory with an innovative vision. The aim was to envision an alternative future for the city, capable of responding to contemporary urban transformation needs through various design experiments. The volume is divided into four sections, each dedicated to different aspects of the restoration and design process, offering in-depth readings and practical insights. Through contributions from both professors and students, the concepts of conservation and innovation in urban heritage are explored, with particular attention to the relationship between the original fabric of the founding city and its contemporary evolution. The volume concludes with a photographic review of the exhibition held at the Museum of the Pontine Marshes in June 2022, providing a comprehensive view of the laboratory's outcomes and their integration into the local community.

    Description: Il volume offre una panoramica dei risultati ottenuti nel Laboratorio di Sintesi Finale in Restauro del Moderno, condotto dai professori Gianluigi de Martino e Marella Santangelo nel contesto del Corso di Laurea magistrale in Architettura Progettazione Architettonica presso l'Università degli Studi di Napoli "Federico II". Attraverso il lavoro sulla città di Pontinia, il laboratorio ha selezionato e indagato il patrimonio dell’architettura moderna prodotta durante il “Ventennio fascista”, proponendo progetti di restauro capaci di coniugare la memoria storica con una visione innovativa. Lo scopo è stato quello di prefigurare un futuro alternativo per la città, capace di rispondere alle esigenze contemporanee di trasformazione urbana, attraverso diverse sperimentazioni progettuali. Il volume si articola in quattro sezioni, ciascuna dedicata a diversi aspetti del processo di restauro e progettazione, offrendo letture approfondite e spunti pratici. Attraverso contributi dei docenti e degli studenti, vengono esplorati i concetti di conservazione e innovazione del patrimonio urbano, con particolare attenzione al rapporto tra il tessuto originario della città di fondazione e la sua evoluzione contemporanea. Il volume si conclude con una rassegna fotografica della mostra tenutasi presso il Museo dell’Agro Pontino nel giugno 2022, offrendo un'ampia visione degli esiti del laboratorio e della loro integrazione nella comunità locale.

    Description: The volume, dedicated to the 44th International Conference of the Italian Union for Drawing, investigates the theme of ‘Transitions’, which particularly effectively represents our time and the current condition of the discipline of Drawing. The term, beyond its generic meaning of an intermediate stage in a process in which a condition changes from one state to another, has always been used in various fields, from music to geophysics. In fact, the disciplines of drawing have always been confronted with themes and issues relating to transitions from one condition to another. The history of representation tells us of transformations, even epochal ones, relating to ‘drawing’, with all that such transitions entail: suffice it to think of the evolution of forms of representation, of instrumental apparatuses, of the mutability of supports, of the analogical-digital transition underway, of the new modes of communication on platforms, of the hypertrophic offer of images also on the net that confirms Guy Debord’s intuitions relating to the new spectacularisation of society. Similarly, representation triggers transitions in the prefiguration and communication of design, the anticipation and foreshadowing of future events.The challenges posed by the digital pose open questions whose scope can only be glimpsed, such as the relationship between drawing and the act of modelling, and the construction of new paradigms of visual language and communication. ‘Transitions’, almost implicitly, points to possible futures, the evolution of technique and the search for new modes of expression; at the same time, however, it can suggest silences and reflections in a process of connection between history, theory, criticism and construction.

    Description: Che cosa fu il tiranno e che cos’è la tirannide? Come restituire problematicità speculativa a queste due nozioni usurate da indeterminatezza e discredito? I saggi della prima parte di questo volume indagano il senso della tirannide attraverso la ripresa di otto figure decisive: la coppia archetipica Giobbe-Edipo, il momento-Machiavelli, l’Illuminismo francese, Weber, Heidegger, Voegelin, Hayek e Aron. La seconda parte ricostruisce, a partire da testi inediti, lo scenario del classico dibattito che vide protagonisti Strauss e Kojève. Ad integrazione di tali indagini viene proposta la traduzione di due saggi di Strauss e Fessard, ed una bibliografia aggiornata.

A partire dai primi anni Cinquanta era entrato in contatto con il mondo culturale e politico italiano, instaurandovi duraturi rapporti professionali, di amicizia e di affinità politica. Il volume, giovandosi di fonti archivistiche inedite e sviluppando il genere biografico attraverso un approccio di ‘microstoria translocale’, mette a fuoco l’affinità elettiva che legò lo storico inglese all’Italia, ricostruendone le reti di relazioni, esaminando gli esiti che queste interazioni provocarono nella sua identità comunista così come nella sua produzione storiografica, analizzando infine la fortuna italiana delle sue opere.

    Description: According to a well-established Italian university tradition, the verification of learning of a subject belonging to the cultural area of the 'STEM disciplines' involves passing a written test and an oral test. While the latter is intended as verification of the acquisition of both the conceptual foundations and the theoretical formalism of the discipline, the written test is intended to verify problem solving skills according to the "knowing means knowing how to do" paradigm, of whose formative validity the authors of this manual are convinced supporters. Usually there are many very good textbooks that cover the theoretical part, while there are chronically few textbooks that propose problems at the right level of complexity, also offering detailed and commented solutions. This is particularly true for those disciplines corresponding to the last year of the three-year cycle of a Bachelor's degree. In order to at least partially fill this gap, a textbook is proposed here that brings together a rich and varied series of problems (with solutions and comments) in the physics of atoms, molecules and crystalline solids. These topics, which constitute an indispensable body of knowledge in modern physics, represent the core of the discipline 'Structure of Matter', as defined by the Italian university taxonomy.

    Description: Secondo una consolidata tradizione universitaria italiana, la verifica dell’apprendimento di una materia appartenente all’area culturale delle “discipline STEM” prevede il superamento di una prova scritta e di una prova orale. Mentre quest’ultima è intesa come verifica di acquisizione tanto dei fondamenti concettuali quanto del formalismo teorico della disciplina, la prova scritta intende verificare le capacità di problem solving secondo il paradigma “sapere significa saper fare”, della cui validità formativa gli Autori di questo manuale sono convinti sostenitori. Usualmente esistono molti validissimi manuali che coprono la parte teorica, mentre è cronicamente scarso il numero di manuali che propongano problemi al giusto livello di complessità, offrendone anche la dettagliata e commentata soluzione. Questo è particolarmente vero per quelle discipline che corrispondono all’ultimo anno del ciclo triennale di una laurea di primo livello. Al fine di colmare almeno parzialmente questa lacuna, qui viene proposto un manuale che raccoglie una ricca e variegata serie di problemi (con soluzioni e commenti) di fisica degli atomi, delle molecole e dei solidi cristallini. Questi argomenti, che costituiscono un irrinunciabile corpus di conoscenze in fisica moderna, rappresentano il cuore della disciplina “Struttura della Materia”, come definita dalla tassonomia universitaria italiana.

    Description: Un sacrificio umano, empio, abnorme, grava sul tessuto drammaturgico di Ifigenia in Aulide: la figlia del re deve essere immolata per propiziare la spedizione contro Troia. Personaggi instabili e di levatura morale modesta, pronti a repentini cambiamenti di idea, cercano vanamente di opporsi all’orrore del sacrificio, finché la protagonista, per un illusorio ideale patriottico, sceglie di andare volontariamente verso la morte eroica sull’altare. A chiusura di una tragedia testualmente labile, l’esodo spurio, in cui l’empietà dell’atto è trascesa dall’esito numinoso, avvolge di mistero la morte di Ifigenia. Smarrito il senso della politica, rimane la favola bella, con effetti patetici e quadri di raffinato gusto pittorico. La tormentata vicenda critico-testuale del dramma viene ripercorsa in questa prima edizione critica italiana, che sceglie una linea di equilibrio nella costituzione del testo.

    Description: Picta Nilotica Romana presents an in-depth analysis of Roman paintings with a Nilotic theme. The first part of the study introduces the classical texts on Egypt and provides an overview of landscape depiction in Roman art. After an outline of methodology, an iconographic-archaeological catalogue of the 74 paintings is developed, founded on specific scientific criteria, with a classification into three categories according to iconographic composition. The corpus is followed by an analysis of the archaeological contexts in which these paintings are found, an analysis of Nilotic iconographies and a definition of the 'Nilotic landscape'. The volume is also completed by an iconographic apparatus and several maps showing geographical and chronological spread.

Attraverso la produzione letteraria della monaca Abutsu (1225 ca.-1283 ca.) e la sua personale esperienza di vita come dama di corte, moglie, madre, vedova e religiosa si ricostruisce un ritratto realistico della donna giapponese nel Medioevo evidenziando alcuni problemi che hanno caratterizzato la storia femminile non solo in Giappone, ma anche in altri paesi del mondo: ricerca di risorse finanziarie, riconoscimento di diritti giuridici, necessità di essere iscritte non solo nella vita riproduttiva ma anche in quella intellettuale.

    Description: The rich calendar of initiatives organized by SISFA throughout 2021 to celebrate the first forty years of activity of the Italian community of Historians of Physics and Astronomy concluded with a Workshop, the Proceedings of which are presented here. Already during our XLI National Congress held in Arezzo in September 2021, a special session commemorated the important anniversary.     Description: The growing number of children and adolescents with a migrant background in Italy has radically changed the composition of the country’s primary and secondary school populations. However, only recently have some of these students have begun entering university. This lag can be explained by the fact that a history of migration brings with it multiple economic, social and educational disadvantages and weaknesses. The book More than is required. Tales of university students with a migrant background is a collection of biographies of young people who, having exceeded society’s common expectations —and therefore having done “more than is required"—have achieved exceptional scholastic results, leading them to wish to continue their studies at university. Their stories of family and school, relationships with peers, and their ambitions, successes and struggles reveal the critical challenges they face, and offer some ways current educational policies can be improved.

    Description: Is it possible to have mathematics experience in the school courtyard garden? Can we observe plants "with different eyes" and identify the connections between mathematical sciences and plant biology? This booklet contains and comments on three interdisciplinary activities that secondary school mathematics and science teachers can conduct in their classrooms, using the group laboratory work method. The proposed activities concern two apparently distant fields: geometry and botany, and are linked to the laboratory kit "Symmetry: mathematics in the garden" (http://specchi.mat.unimi.it/matematica/matematica_in_giardino.html). This work intends to provide teachers, and not only them, with an unusual classification tool based on symmetry and also with a look at topics that are little known to most people and not usually covered in the school curricula, such as floral diagrams and phyllotaxis.

    Description: Nell’Era dei regimi totalitari il rapporto tra Italia e Giappone, pesantemente influenzato dall’ingombrante presenza tedesca, fu reciprocamente ambiguo: il nippofilo Mussolini diffidava, in realtà, dell’alleato orientale, e l’armistizio dell’8 settembre 1943 confermò tragicamente, alla fine, i costanti dubbi nipponici su un’Italia dove, successivamente (luglio 1945), il Governo democratico presieduto da Parri si sarebbe spinto a dichiarar guerra all’ex alleato, poco prima della conferenza di Potsdam. Per tentar di risollevare le sorti politico-diplomatiche dell’Italia sconfitta, Parri e i suoi, non senza affanni, presero la decisione di schierarsi contro il Giappone: l’inattesa resa giapponese vanificò la spericolata scelta, che sarebbe tuttavia ingeneroso banalizzare. Nel nuovo contesto della Guerra Fredda, ripristinare normali relazioni tra i due paesi, pur dopo una guerra non combattuta, si rivelò assai difficoltoso, dagli inizi (1951-52) e per un lungo ventennio di sfibranti trattative.

    Description: In questa indagine si vuole far emergere la percezione personale rispetto allo studio del francese da parte degli studenti della scuola secondaria di primo grado. La Scuola italiana prevede l’insegnamento obbligatorio dell’inglese dalla prima classe della scuola primaria alla quinta classe della scuola secondaria di secondo grado e ciò genera una percezione da parte degli studenti (e, vista l’età del campione focalizzato, anche delle famiglie) dell’inglese come lingua utile, indispensabile – per- cezione confermata dai mass media – collocando le altre lingue straniere in una posizione secondaria. La conseguenza di questo ruolo di secondo piano è spesso una scarsa motivazione allo studio delle altre lingue, viste come meno utili e interessanti.

Il contesto è quello del sostegno alle fondamentali riforme collegate al PNRR, richieste dai referenti europei e necessarie per il Paese; tra queste, in particolare, la riduzione dei “tempi della giustizia” e, legato a ciò, il decongestionamento del carico di lavoro, anche per il tramite dello smaltimento dei (troppi) arretrati.

    Description: This essay focuses on light and theories of combustion in the late 18th century. But it does so “on the nitrogen side”: that is, on the side of those inert three-quarters of air that do not contribute to respiration and, therefore, do not trigger the light-emitting response of phosphorus in experiments. In analyzing the variety of opinions broadly (and imprecisely) ascribable to the “Lavoisierian-Phlogistonist” dispute, this book sheds special light on the non-Lavoisierian German context where Johann Friedrich August Göttling performed his tests on phosphorus and nitrogen – and, subsequently, on Lazzaro Spallanzani’s crucial role in the debate. The book pays attention to theories, but it also deals with experimental practice. Therefore, it tells a story of procedures and instruments: in fact, it was especially on this tricky field that the understanding of the phosphorus-nitrogen relationship was achieved. In reading these pages, we shall meet the great heroes of early chemistry as well as the “artisans of innovation” who gave substantial contributions to the advancement of their discipline: a rich fresco that gives us a clear idea of the complexity of the methodological debate at the turn of the century, and of how widespread scientific activity was at that time.

    Description: Da qualche anno è in vita un progetto di ricerca dell’Università degli Studi di Bari, che ha all’attivo ormai diversi contributi, sulla ricezione della letteratura spagnola nell’Italia del Novecento. Se il primo obiettivo è stato quello di avere un quadro esaustivo delle traduzioni di letteratura spagnola in volume, non meno significativo appare il lavoro di recensione degli articoli pubblicati nelle riviste di cultura. Relativamente alle riviste della prima metà del secolo abbiamo strumenti che supportano la ricerca e studi che offrono delle prime conclusioni, mentre molto meno chiaro è il quadro del secondo Novecento di cui si offre in questo volume una prima esplorazione, in vista di uno spoglio sistematico, e di una disamina puntuale dei contenuti.

Conservato per secoli nel convento napoletano di S. Efrem Nuovo e divenuto poi patrimonio del Regno d’Italia alla metà del XIX secolo, il testo di Nigrone viene pubblicato qui per la prima volta, insieme ad un apparato critico di note e schede e a un saggio introduttivo che aiutano a contestualizzarlo nel tempo in cui fu concepito.

    Description: The present volume collects most of the contributions to the plenary sessions held at the 24th International Congress of Byzantine Studies, and incisively reflects the ever increasing broadening of the very concept of ‘Byzantine Studies’. Indeed, a particularly salient characteristic of the papers presented here is their strong focus on interdisciplinarity and their breadth of scope, both in terms of methodology and content. The cross-pollination between different fields of Byzantine Studies is also a major point of the volume. Archaeology and art history have pride of place; it is especially in archaeological papers that one can grasp the vital importance of the interaction with the so-called hard sciences and with new technologies for contemporary research. This relevance of science and technology for archaeology, however, also applies to, and have significant repercussions in, historical studies, where – for example – the study of climate change or the application of specific software to network studies are producing a major renewal of knowledge. In more traditional subject fields, like literary, political, and intellectual history, the contributions to the present volume offer some important reflections on the connection between Byzantium and other cultures and peoples through the intermediary of texts, stories, diplomacy, trade, and war.

    Description: Con la conquista dei primi territori coloniali sul finire dell’Ottocento, la retorica imperiale prese a circolare non solo fra le calli veneziane ma anche tra i banchi di Ca’ Foscari. Il discorso pubblico così come quello scientifico-accademico, interagendo con il bagaglio storico-culturale dell’ex Dominante, contribuirono a ridefinire lo spazio urbano e quello universitario, lasciando tracce ancora oggi visibili. Proprio a partire da queste ultime, si tenterà di descrivere le vicende e individuare gli interpreti di una pagina di storia locale ancora poco conosciuta.

    Description: La questione dell’anima rappresenta il cuore pulsante del pensiero di Seneca in quanto essa costituisce il punto di partenza imprescindibile per l’indagine di numerosi altri aspetti della filosofia dello stesso autore. Nel corso della sua opera, il filosofo tratteggia una nozione di anima la cui ricchezza filosofica è efficacemente restituita da un prospettico gioco di luci e ombre adatto a farci apprezzare a pieno la ‘tridimensionalità’ di un concetto che ci sembra quasi di poter afferrare con la mano. Si delinea, agli occhi del lettore, un quadro complesso, filosoficamente pregnante, una concezione di anima profondamente in linea con i principi della scuola stoica e, allo stesso tempo, intimamente senecana.

    Description: The book collects the outcomes of the teaching experience carried out during the first semester of the 2021/22 academic year within the four Architectural and Urban Design and Interior Architecture Studio of the second year of Master’s Degree in Architecture 5UE at the Department of Architecture of the University of Naples “Federico II”. The theoretical and applied experience focused on the design of a new kindergarten in Via Manzoni, in the Posillipo district of Naples. The proposals developed by the students aimed to renew the idea of school: a school-city that becomes a reference point not only for those who experience it daily, but for the entire community and the neighbourhood in which it is located. The school is understood as a complex architecture, whose organizational structure engages with the features of the urban and landscape morphology, incorporating, replicating, and renewing principles and settlement features. The design experiments thus integrate the three scales of the project: the scale of interior spaces’ design, relating to formal and informal education, also taking into account pedagogical aspects; the scale of the architectural building, also in relation to dimensional and spatial relationships with the Fatebenefratelli Hospital and the former Swiss School, designed by Dolf Schnebli; the urban and landscape scale, relating to the integration into the Posillipo neighbourhood, between the urban axis of Via Manzoni and the rural road of Via del Marzano. The book also includes texts from teachers, designers, and scholars who were invited to provide theoretical-methodological contributions and participate in collective reviews within the Design Studios.

    Description: La pubblicazione raccoglie gli esiti dell’esperienza didattica svolta durante il primo semestre dell’a.a. 2021/22 all’interno dei quattro Laboratori in Composizione architettonica e urbana e Architettura degli interni 2 del Corso di Laurea Magistrale a ciclo unico in Architettura 5UE del Dipartimento di Architettura dell’Università degli Studi di Napoli “Federico II”. L’esperienza didattico-laboratoriale si è concentrata sul progetto di una nuova scuola dell’infanzia a via Manzoni, nel quartiere Posillipo a Napoli. Le proposte elaborate dagli studenti hanno provato a rinnovare il concetto di scuola: una scuola-città che diventa punto di riferimento non solo per coloro che quotidianamente ne fanno esperienza, ma anche per il quartiere nella quale essa si inserisce. La scuola è intesa come un’architettura complessa, la cui struttura organizzativa si confronta con i caratteri della morfologia urbana e paesaggistica assumendone, replicandone e rinnovandone principi e caratteri insediativi. Le sperimentazioni progettuali integrano, così, le tre scale del progetto: la scala dell’architettura degli interni, relativa allo spazio della formazione formale e informale, tenendo conto anche di contenuti di carattere pedagogico; la scala dell’edificio, anche in relazione ai rapporti dimensionali e spaziali con l’Ospedale Fatebenefratelli e con la ex Scuola Svizzera progettata da Dolf Schnebli; la scala urbana e paesaggistica relativa all’inserimento nel quartiere di Posillipo, tra l’asse urbano di via Manzoni e la strada rurale di via del Marzano. Il volume raccoglie anche gli scritti di docenti, progettisti e studiosi che sono stati invitati a dare un contributo teorico-metodologico e a partecipare alle revisioni collettive nell’ambito dei laboratori.

    Description: Manthos Ioannou è stato un protagonista della guerra di Morea (1714-18), quando i turchi ottomani riuscirono a riprendere il dominio del Peloponneso, conquistato dai veneziani sul finire del Seicento. La tragica esperienza vissuta dalla popolazione di lingua greca è stata trasformata in una cronaca in versi, che divenne un best-long seller a Venezia dalla metà del Settecento fino al tardo Ottocento. Questo libro ripropone la lettura del poema di Manthos Ioannou, con l'intento di presentare una fonte diretta, poco nota alla storiografia italiana, e di approfondire lo studio dell’opera nel suo contesto storico e letterario.

    Description: In those Slavic languages where the vocative inflectional case endings are used inconsistently, a statistically increased occurrence of vocative’s endings can be observed with nouns having a diminutive or hypocoristic semantics. Assuming that is the ‘affective charge’ of some specific nouns which enhances the probability of vocative case forms, the present paper has two aims: 1. to verify empirically in three Slavic languages (Serbian, Polish, Bulgarian) whether the vocative case is better preserved with nouns having a derogatory semantics (insults and bad words), 2. to establish which are the rules governing their use.

    Description: Il libro indaga le complesse articolazioni della falsificazione epigrafica, un fenomeno ampiamente attestato in Italia fra il tardo Medioevo e il XVIII secolo. Le iscrizioni non genuine o falsae, come le chiamava Theodor Mommsen, sono quelle che si presentano come antiche, ma in realtà non lo sono. Possono essere prodotte tanto su supporto materiale, quanto semplicemente su carta. Al loro interno si distinguono diverse tipologie di documenti: falsi realizzati a scopo di dolo, repliche di iscrizioni antiche, nonché testi o monumenti che si ispirano a modelli epigrafici classici. Il volume raccoglie quindici saggi scientifici, che esaminano singoli casi di falsificazione, ricostruiscono l'epistemologia della critica dei falsi e riabilitano numerose epigrafi ritenute erroneamente false, confermandone invece l'effettiva antichità.

    Description: Inaugurando nel 2012 un bel convegno udinese dedicato alla riscrittura dell’identità delle donne nei testi dell’emigrazione organizzato dal Centro internazionale sulle letterature migranti Oltreoceano - CILM, Silvana Se-rafin coniò un’immagine molto suggestiva per indicare il ruolo svolto dalla rivista Oltreoceano nel «grande mosaico della letteratura migrante», qualificandola come«una sorta di ‘bosone di Higgs’, ovvero quella particella ipotizzata dal fisico scozzese Peter Higgs nel 1964, la quale interagisce con tutte le altre particelle fondamentali» e che, con il passare degli anni, «si è confermata come l’anello mancante della teoria che descrive la fisica dell’universo».«Diaspore. Quaderni di ricerca», collana di studi che affianca l’attività dell’Archivio Scritture Scrittrici Migranti cafoscarino, è molto lieta di col-locarsi nella rete di relazioni della rivista udinese e orgogliosa di poter a-cogliere questo omaggio a Silvana, omaggio che, per la molteplicità degli argomenti affrontati, lo spessore dei contributi, l’ampiezza del raggio dei collaboratori e la loro qualificazione, suggerisce la ricca articolazione e la fecondità dell’attività della dedicataria la quale, negli anni, ha identificato nuove prospettive di ricerca, catalizzato forze, percorso direzioni originali, approfondito ambiti plurimi di studi.     Description: Del 14 al 18 de julio de 2014 se dieron cita en Venecia más de doscientos estudiosos venidos de veintiún países, pertenecientes a ciento veintiséis universidades, centros e instituciones para celebrar el X Congreso Internacional de la Asociación Siglo de Oro, cuando la AISO cumplía 25 años. Estas páginas reflejan buena parte de lo escuchado allí, habiendo pasado un proceso de revisión por pares las comunicaciones recibidas para su publicación.     Description: Lo scopo di questo lavoro è la pubblicazione di due strutture del periodo Protopalaziale (XX-XVIII sec. a.C.) situate nel quartiere ad Ovest del cortile occidentale mediano (Piazzale I), del Primo palazzo di Festòs. Queste strutture scavate da Doro Levi, direttore della Missione Archeologica Italiana, nel 1965-1966, non sono mai state oggetto di un adeguato ed approfondito studio dell’architettura e dei ritrovamenti portati alla luce. Con questo lavoro si è invece provveduto per la prima volta ad un’analisi stratigrafico-architettonica delle strutture scavate e ad uno studio sistematico di tutto il materiale rinvenuto al loro interno. Grazie alla successione di livelli individuata, si è ottenuta una sequenza ceramica valida per l’intero centro di Festòs, che copre tutto il periodo Protopalaziale, dal MM IB iniziale al MM IIB.

    Description: This volume gathers Alessandro De Francesco’s essays and theoretical writings produced from 2015 to 2022. It follows the first volume Continuum: Writings on Poetry as Artistic Practice, reuniting essays written between 2007 and 2015. The title of this new volume could only be Continuum 2, given that the underlying concept remains the same: to testify to the seamless continuity of the author’s commitment to poetry and art over the years, and to reaffirm at the same time, on a theoretical level, a model of creation and thinking as a continuous flow, not discretized, not quantized, but organic, liquid, without end or beginning; a kind of linguistic translation of the space-time in which every text, like every other object, is necessarily immersed. Continuum 2 is a trilingual book, containing writings in English, French, and Italian, and it is particularly focused on two lines of inquiry: the author’s ongoing meditation on the poetic practice, and the first steps of his new investigation into seventeenth-century art, poetry, and forms of thought.

    Description: Se i contatti di lingue sono un tema classico della linguistica, attenzione minore ricevono i contatti di scritture, sia per le molte competenze (linguistiche, paleografiche, etno-antropologiche) richieste a chi li studia, sia a causa di un’impostazione che interpreta la scrittura come ancillare rispetto alla lingua. Di qui la sfida del volume: riunire linguisti di ambiti diversi col duplice scopo di offrire una ampia selezione delle differenti forme del contatto tra lingue e tra scritture e, attraverso il confronto, evidenziare gli elementi comuni a situazioni lontane nel tempo e nello spazio.

In fact, the disciplines of drawing have always been confronted with themes and issues relating to transitions from one condition to another.     Description: Fin dall’inizio del Trecento i Domenicani dedicano una speciale attenzione al Devisement dou monde di Marco Polo e Rustichello da Pisa, intuendone il valore scientifico e le potenzialità come strumento per l’evangelizzazione dell’Asia. Mediante una stratificata opera di traduzione e talvolta di riscrittura, l’Ordine si appropria del libro, modificandone in parte pubblico e ruolo e promuovendo il suo autore, sebbene laico, ad auctoritas. Avvalendosi di più metodi di indagine (filologico-linguistico, storico-culturale, archivistico-documentario), i contributi raccolti in questo volume offrono una rappresentazione del rapporto tra Marco Polo e i Predicatori. Il primo frutto di queste ricerche è il ritrovamento di una pergamena custodita presso l’Archivio di Stato di Venezia che certifica definitivamente la presenza di un rapporto diretto tra Marco Polo e i frati del convento dei SS. Giovanni e Paolo, centro di rilievo, legato alla cultura laica da una fitta rete di rapporti che si estende a figure di spicco del preumanesimo veneto. Il secondo livello d’indagine riguarda l’opera del frate Francesco Pipino da Bologna, che con la versione P e il Chronicon assicura al testo di Marco un successo internazionale e di lunga durata.

    Description: During the first XXth century, war, violence, forced migration, man-made famines, and epidemics were responsible of tens of million deaths. They left deep scars in the survivors, altered the equilibrium between genders and between generations, and affected in multiple ways the European demographic system, including the geographical distribution of the population. The collapse of multinational empires led to the identification of the State with the nation, and of the nation with an ethnic group, and bred an intolerant hyper-ethnicism, culminated in ferocious episodes of ethnic cleansing and genocide. This book is about the victims of these unrests, caused by political choices, and it carries out an analysis of the elements that led to the convincement that States could manipulate the number, the structure and the distribution of populations.

    Description: Corpus linguistics, German linguistics and the Teaching of German as a foreign language (Deutsch als Fremdsprache – DaF) are strictly connected disciplines (cf. Fandrych/ Tschirner 2007). This notwithstanding their combination for descriptive, applicative and didactic purposes is still not widespread. In university teaching theory and practice, the connections are in fact mainly binary, between corpus linguistics and German linguistics, between German linguistics and DaF and between corpus linguistics and DaF. On the contrary, the present volume aims at bringing out the interconnections among all three disciplines; the use of empirical approaches intended to foster the development of linguistic and crosslinguistic awareness will play a central role. The focus of the volume is on morphology and syntax, two linguistic domains that are traditionally considered central to grammar and that are well suited to be understood and analysed by means of corpus linguistics corpus linguistics. Their analysis may serve as a model for other linguistic levels.

    Description: La linguistica dei corpora, la linguistica tedesca e la didattica del tedesco come lingua straniera (Deutsch als Fremdsprache – DaF) sono discipline strettamente collegate (cfr. Fandrych/ Tschirner 2007). Nonostante questo, la loro sinergia per fini descrittivi, applicativi e didattici è ancora poco diffusa. Nella teoria e prassi didattica universitaria le connessioni sono infatti soprattutto di tipo binario, tra linguistica dei corpora e linguistica tedesca, tra linguistica tedesca e DaF e tra linguistica dei corpora e DaF. Obiettivo del presente volume è quello invece di far emergere le interconnessioni tra tutte e tre le discipline; svolgerà un ruolo centrale l’introduzione ad approcci di tipo empirico volti a favorire lo sviluppo della consapevolezza linguistica e crosslinguistica. Il focus del volume è su morfologia e sintassi, due ambiti linguistici tradizionalmente considerati centrali per la grammatica e che si prestano particolarmente ad essere compresi ed analizzati mediante la linguistica dei corpora. La loro analisi potrà servire da modello per altri livelli linguistici.

    Description: The volume, dedicated to the 44th International Conference of the Italian Union for Drawing, investigates the theme of ‘Transitions’, which particularly effectively represents our time and the current condition of the discipline of Drawing. The term, beyond its generic meaning of an intermediate stage in a process in which a condition changes from one state to another, has always been used in various fields, from music to geophysics. In fact, the disciplines of drawing have always been confronted with themes and issues relating to transitions from one condition to another. The history of representation tells us of transformations, even epochal ones, relating to ‘drawing’, with all that such transitions entail: suffice it to think of the evolution of forms of representation, of instrumental apparatuses, of the mutability of supports, of the analogical-digital transition underway, of the new modes of communication on platforms, of the hypertrophic offer of images also on the net that confirms Guy Debord’s intuitions relating to the new spectacularisation of society. Similarly, representation triggers transitions in the prefiguration and communication of design, the anticipation and foreshadowing of future events.The challenges posed by the digital pose open questions whose scope can only be glimpsed, such as the relationship between drawing and the act of modelling, and the construction of new paradigms of visual language and communication. ‘Transitions’, almost implicitly, points to possible futures, the evolution of technique and the search for new modes of expression; at the same time, however, it can suggest silences and reflections in a process of connection between history, theory, criticism and construction.

    Description: Il libro raccoglie i contributi presentati nel corso del primo Seminario internazionale METra (Mapping Epic in Tragedy – Epica e tragedia greca: una mappatura) svoltosi nel maggio del 2021 presso l’Università degli Studi di Verona. Il fine di questo volume – e del progetto da cui prende le mosse – è sondare i confini della ricca e frastagliata eredità dell’epica greca arcaica (in primis Omero) nel dramma attico. Tale eredità viene qui indagata secondo direttrici molteplici e multidisciplinari: dall’analisi linguistica e metrica all’esegesi filologica, stilistico-letteraria e drammaturgica, dalle prospettive della ricerca antropologica e storico-religiosa a quelle della storia culturale e delle idee. I saggi costituiscono – per quanto in modo inevitabilmente parziale – una prima, provvisoria ma già estesa mappatura delle fertili, continue e innovative rivisitazioni in chiave drammatica del patrimonio mitico, linguistico e culturale dell’epica messe in opera dai grandi tragediografi del V secolo a.C.
