The high-temperature phase formed by peritectic reaction at 709°C has the composition Cu9.5As4; the cubic unit cell contains one formula unit. When slowly cooled, the hightemperature phase undergoes peritectoid decomposition to β-Cu3As and As between 360 and 340°C.Quenching the high-temperature phase inhibits the rather slow peritectoid reaction. The quenched high-temperature phase transforms reversibly at 315°C into a low-temperature modification. This modification is orthorhombic; the unit cell contains two formula units Cu9.5As4. There is a close structural relationship between the high- and the low-temperature modifications.

Die bei 709°C durch peritektische Reaktion gebildete Hochtemperaturphase hat die Zusammensetzung Cu9,5As4, sie kristallisiert kubisch mit einer Formeleinheit im Elementarkörper. Bei langsamem Abkühlen zerfällt die Hochtemperaturphase peritektoid zwischen 360 und 340°C in β-Cu3As und As.Durch Abschrecken der Hochtemperaturphase wird die verhältnismäßig langsam ablaufende peritektoide Reaktion gehemmt. Die Hochtemperaturphase wandelt sich dann bei 315°C reversibel in eine Tieftemperaturmodifikation um. Diese kristallisiert orthorhombisch und enthält zwei Formeleinheiten Cu9,5As4 in der Elementarzelle. Die Elementarzelle steht in einer engen kristallchemischen Beziehung zu der der Hochtemperaturmodifikation.
