    Notizen: Previous research has suggested that dietary fiber can reduce the bioavailability of certain micronutrients by ionic binding or physical entrapment. In this study, the ability of eight purified polysaccharides, lignin, and wheat bran to bind B-6 vitamers was examined in vitro using equilibrium dialysis under physiological conditions. The polysaccharides used were cellulose, hydroxypropyl cellulose, carboxymethyl cellulose, methyl cellulose, citrus pectin, xanthan gum, sodium alginate, and gum arabic. No significant binding was detected when pectin was dialyzed to equilibrium at, 0.5, 0.75, and 1% levels in the presence of 0.1 or 0.1 mM pyridoxine, pyridoxamine, or pyridoxal. When 1% wheat bran, lignin, and the test polysaccharides were incubated overnight with 0.1 mM pyridoxine prior to dialysis, to allow for any slow binding process to occur, no in vitro binding of pyridoxine by any of the test materials could be observed on equilibrium dialysis. These results are consistent with findings of in vivo experiments which showed that cellulose, pectin, and bran did not significantly decrease the bioavailability of vitamin B-6 when fed to the rat and/or the chick.

    Notizen: Exposure of sea bass Dicentrarchus labrax oocytes to 25, 50, 100, and 300 IU ml−1 of human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) resulted in a dose-dependent increase (ED50=60 IU ml−1) in the maximal maturation and volume response rate over a 120-h incubation period. Oocytes responded in a similar dose-dependent manner to graded doses of homologous sea bass pituitary extract (ED50=3·3#10−2 PE ml−1). The response latency of sea bass oocytes to endogenous and exogenous gonadotropins was similar (t1/2≃45 and 48 h, respectively). Both 17α,20β-dihydroxy-4-pregnen-3-one (17,20βP) and 17α,20β,21-trihydroxy-4-pregnen-3-one (20βS) stimulated maturation in a dose- and time-dependent manner with t1/2 values less than those of hCG (15 h and 7·5 h at 100 ng ml−1, respectively); 17α,20α-dehydroxy-4-pregnen-3-one (17,20αP) was ineffective. 17,20βP was more potent at all doses tested. The stimulatory actions of gonadotropin and maturation-inducing steroid (MIS) involved both transcription and translation since maturation was significantly inhibited in the presence of actinomycin D and cycloheximide. Moreover, pituitary extract and hCG stimulated release of higher levels of 17,20βP in a dose- and time-dependent manner in follicle incubations as compared to 20βS suggesting that this steroid may in fact be the MIS in this species.

    Notizen: Abstract: ENUSA mines an ore-body in the ‘Schisto-greywacke complex’ near Ciudad Rodrigo, close to the Portuguesc border. The uranium ore (pitchblende) is associated with sulphide minerals (pyrite, chalcopyrite). The whole Spanish yellow cake production (250 t U∼Os/year) is obtained from this mine (MINA FE) by bioleaching, although at the beginning, in 1973. it was an acid heap-leaching operation.

    Beschreibung: Bi-based nanoparticles were successfully synthesized (500 °C/2 h) following two intermediate-temperature routes, Pechini and a combined method of mechanical milling/molten salts. Herein, α-Bi 2 O 3 /Bi 2 O 2 CO 3 heterostructures were identified. These types of heterostructures have shown advantages to improving the visible light responsive activity of Bi-based nanoparticles to facilitate the separation of photogenerated electron-hole pairs. By fixing the experimental parameters, the synthesis route and Ag contents showed to play a very important role in the phase composition of the Ag-containing samples; the formation of Bi/Ag-Bi 2 O 3 /Bi 2 O 2 CO 3 and Ag/Ag-Bi 2 O 3 /Bi 2 O 2 CO 3 complex hybrid structures were revealed. The α-Bi 2 O 3 /Bi 2 O 2 CO 3 heterostructure prepared by combined method exhibited higher photocatalytic efficiency (66.84%) for degrading methylene blue (MB) depending on Bi 2 O 2 CO 3 component proportion. For the Ag-containing hybrid structures, the performance of their catalytic activity did not show an increase with respect to α-Bi 2 O 3 /Bi 2 O 2 CO 3 . However, in these samples, the degradation efficiency was slightly enhanced with the efficient doping of Ag into the α-Bi 2 O 3 structure and the existence of Bi when Pechini method was used.
