    Notes: Abstract The temperature dependence of the anisotropy of γ-rays from the decay of oriented183,184Re nuclei situated in an iron matrix was measured between 14 and 33 mK. Magnetic hyperfine splitting constants ofgH HF=5.04(9) × 10−18 erg andgH HF=3.21 (13) × 10−18 erg were determined for the groundstates of183Re and184Re, respectively. With the previously known hyperfinefield of −760(15) kG for Re in iron the followingg-factors were deduced:183Reg=1.32 (5) and184Reg=0.84 (5). The E2/M1 mixing ratio of the 793 keV 2+ −2+ transition in184W was accurately determined to δ (793 keV)=+16.65 (85).

    Notes: Abstract We report measurements of nuclear magnetic resonance on oriented nuclei (NMR-ON) on94Tc (Iπ=7+,T 1/2=4.9 h),95Tc (I π=9/2+,T 1/2=20 h) and96Tc (I π=7+,T 1/2=4.3 d) in Fe and on95Tc and96Tc in Ni. In order to elucidate the discrepancies on the hyperfine field of TcFe in the literature, the resonances were measured with high precision as a function of the external magnetic field Bext up to 2.0 T. In addition, TDPAC measurements were performed on99TcFe at T=300 K and 13 K. TheT=0 K hyperfine fields of Tc in Fe and Ni were determined to be −314(3) kG and −51.8(5) kG, respectively. The g-factors of93Tc,94Tc,95Tc,96Tc and99Tc(E=181 keV;I π=5/2+) are redetermined as g(93Tc)=1.405(14), g(94Tc)=0.731(7),g(95Tc)=1.321(13), g(96Tc)=0.727(7), g(99Tc)=1.390(17).

    Notes: Abstract Quadrupole-interaction nuclear orientation experiments have been performed on182Ta (jπ=3−1; T1/2=115d) in 2H-TaS2. γ-anisotropies up to ∼ 30 % have been observed at a temperature of ∼ 8 mK, which, however, is only about half of the value expected taking into account known results of TDPAC measurements on181Ta in 2H-TaS2. In principle, matrices of dichalcogenides could be well suited for nuclear quadrupole resonance on oriented nuclei (NQR-ON) experiments.

    Notes: Abstract We report on Time Differential Perturbed Angular Correlation measurements of the nuclear quadrupole interaction of181Hf(β−)181 and its temperature dependence in the low dimensional Hf- trichalcogenides HfS3, HfSe3 and HfTe3. In HfS3 the temperature dependence of the precession frequency is a slowly decreasing function with a negative curvature, the deviation from axial symmetry of the electric field gradient is practically temperature independent. In HfSe3 the NQI shows a peculiar behaviour; between 10K and 300K the quadrupole frequency and the asymmetry parameter increase, between 300K and 400K the frequency decreases while the deviation from axial symmetry increases, indicating a structural phase transition near room temperature. In HfTe3 the quadrupole frequency is practically temperature independent below 600K and increases linearely at higher temperatures, the asymmetry parameter increases steadily in the temperature range from 10K to 600K and then decreases. There is a strong correlation between the strength and the asymmetry of the electric field gradient so that the system depends on one control parameter only.

    Notes: Abstract We report on the first TDPAC-measurements of the nuclear quadrupole interaction (NQI) of (NQI) of99Mo(β-)99Tc in the nitrogenase of the bacteria Klebsiella pneumoniae. Because nitrogenase is the only Mo-containing enzyme in Klebsiella pneumoniae under the chosen conditions, no further isolation of this enzyme was necessary. The majority of the incorporated99Mo is subjected to a well defined NQI with ω=365(7) Mrad/s, η=1 and a reorientational correlation time of τcoττ≈10nsec and is attributed to the active site of the FeMo cofactor. During sample preparation we noted a pronounced affinity of the bacteria to99mTc.

    Notes: Abstract The quadrupole interaction at room temperature of111Cd in CdSiP2, CdGeP2, and CdSnP2 is investigated by111mCd-TDPAC. The results are compared with those of former111In(111Cd) measurements. We observed axially symmetric quadrupole interactions with identical quadrupole coupling constants provided that radiation damage was annealed. This proves that also In probes are positioned at Cd-sites (A-sites) in these ternary compounds.

    Notes: Abstract Time differential perturbed angular correlation (TDPAC) studies of the coordination chemistry of the heavy metal atoms Cd and Hg via the nuclear quadrupole interaction are presented for the following systems; (i) mercury complexes with mercaptides, polymers with thiol groups, and ferrocenethiols. Mercury has a strong tendency to form linear or almost linear bonds with sulfur ligands. Evidence for 1,3-dithia-2-mercura[3]ferrocenophane formation is presented. (ii)111mCd-derivatives of the small electron transport proteins azurin, including a his 117gly mutant, and stellacyanin. The titration of the his 117gly mutant of azurin with imidazole was monitored in situ. (iii)111mCd- and199mHg-derivatives of the multi-Cu enzymes ascorbate oxidase and laccase. Reconstitution probabilities for Hg-reconstitution will be given as well as information on selective depletion and blocking of Cu-sites.
