Notes: Abstract For the first time, fully self-consistent soft phonon data, associated with the tetragonal-orthorhombic structural transition in the high-temperature superconductor La2−x Sr x CuO4, are used to solve Eliashberg equations. It is found that the electron-phonon coupling constant is stronglyx- and temperature-dependent. The superconducting transition temperatureT c follows the experimentalx-dependence but does not exceed 28 K. The higherT c values observed are attributed to nonlinear electronphonon interactions, due to high oxygen ion polarizability, which producebiphonon resonances and bound states and significantly increaseT c .

Notes: Abstract A diatomic linear chain model is used to describe the dynamical properties of displacive type ferroelectric compounds. For these materials the non-bondingp-orbitals of the chalcogen ions play an essential role, which is taken into account by assuming a nonlinear fourth-order polarizability at the chalcogen-ion lattice site. Within the self-consistent phonon approximation soft modes, phonon dispersion curves, phonon anomalies and related quantities can be calculated for all temperatures. Going beyond the self-consistent phonon approximation, the model yields, in the continuum limit, interesting new solutions such as periodic non-linear waves, kinks, which describe the statics and dynamics of ferroelectric domain walls, and pulse solutions.

Notes: Abstract Gap coupling interaction is a necessary consequence if a superconducting system has a gap distribution, as found for the high-T c oxocuprates, since the interaction has to result in a single critical temperatureT c . This paper shows with the help of BCS gap-coupling equations and values of gap distribution, including gap weights from experiments, thatT c values as observed are easily achievable with reasonable diagonal and off-diagonal coupling coefficients. Of course our phenomenologically derived coupling coefficients have to be verified from purely theoretical grounds. Most importantly, it is found that the highest gap contributes dominantly toT c in spite of its low weight. Predictions for a point-contact tunneling spectroscopy are made.

Notes: Abstract Band crossing and hybridization effects on superconductivity are investigated within a weak coupling limit of an extended BCS theory. Two-phonon modiated attractive two-band (p−d) interactions induce anisotropic coupled energy gaps, enhancement of the transition temperatureT c , and a material-dependent isotope effect. The individual gap tok B T c ratios deviate from the usual BCS value but their average recovers approximately the usual value. Effects on ultrasonic attenuation and coherence lengths are briefly discussed.

Notes: Abstract A unified approach to superconductivity is presented using natural extensions of weak coupling BCS theory. Multiphonon-multiband interactions cause a multigap opening atT c , with cooperative pairing in all bands incorporated via interband interactions. Strong increases inT c are found due to interband-induced gap coupling. Model calculations for the experimentally observed gap distribution are presented.

Notes: Abstract The phase diagram of high-T c superconducting copper oxides (HTSC) exhibits an unusual complexity which is, at present, beyond any microscopic modeling. Motivated by very recent experimental findings—(i) a giant isotope effect on T* and (ii) doping-dependent phonon anomalies and “extra” modes—the role played by the lattice is reinvestigated and the consequences arising for the striped phase are discussed. By including nonlinear higher-order phonon–phonon and density–density interactions in the Hamiltonian, an isotope effect on T* is obtained, as well as substantial q-dependent phonon anomalies, where both effects are strongly doping dependent.

Notes: Abstract Superconducting copper-oxides are modeled by a two-band Hubbard type modelHamiltonian which explicitly includes on-site and intersiteelectron–phonon interactions. The effects of both on theantiferromagnetic and superconducting state properties are investigated. Inthe antiferromagnetic regime the on-site electron–phonon interactionsinduce a squeezing of the band energies and an isotope effect on theantiferromagnetic transition temperature T N is predicted. In thesuperconducting phase the intersite electron–phonon couplings gainimportance and induce a large increase in T c especially if the difference inband energies is large.
