Summary A detailed description is given of the new edition of the “Monatskarten für den Nordatlantischen Ozean” which were edited in November 1967 by the Deutsches Hydrographisches Institut [1967] under the order number 2420. Special mention is made of the sources forming the basis of this new edition. The explanations of the single parts of the monthly charts shall demonstrate the way in which the climatological and hydrographic conditions of the North Atlantic are represented here for the nautical concerns of shipping. The pertinent problems are approached and the most essential climatological results communicated.

Résumé La nouvelle édition des «Cartes mensuelles pour l'Océan Atlantique Nord» publiées en novembre 1967 par le «Deutsches Hydrographisches Institut» [1967] sous le no de publication 2420, fait, dans cet article, l'objet d'une description plus détaillée. En particulier, on y a indiqué les sources des informations qui sont à l'origine de cette nouvelle refonte. Les explications des parties différentes des cartes mensuelles sont à montrer la manière dans laquelle la climatologie et l'hydrographie de l'Océan Atlantique Nord sont représentées dans cette nouvelle refonte pour les buts nautiques de la navigation. Les problèmes pertinents sont traités et les résultats climatologiques les plus essentiels communiqués.

Zusammenfassung Die Neuauflage der “Monatskarten für den Nordatlantischen Ozean”, herausgegeben im November 1967 vom Deutschen Hydrographischen Institut [1967] unter der Bestellnummer 2420, soll in diesem Aufsatz näher beschrieben werden. Im besonderen wird ein Nachweis der Quellen vorgelegt, die der Neubearbeitung zugrunde liegen. Die Erläuterung der einzelnen Teile der Monatskarten soll aufzeigen, wie in diesem Kartenwerk die Klimatologie und Hydrographie des Nordatlantiks für die nautischen Belange der Schiffahrt dargestellt sind. Dabei auftretende Probleme werden angeschnitten und die wichtigsten klimatologischen Ergebnisse mitgeteilt.
