Description: Author(s): Alexei D. Kiselev and Dmytro O. Plutenko By using the method of far-field matching we obtain the far-field expressions for the optical (radiation) force exerted by Laguerre-Gaussian (LG) light beams on a spherical (Mie) particle and study the optical-force-induced dynamics of the scatterer near the trapping points represented by the equili… [Phys. Description: Author(s): Alexei D. Kiselev and Dmytro O. Plutenko We study Mie scattering of Laguerre-Gaussian (LG) light beams remodelled using the method of far-field matching. The theoretical results are used to analyze the optical field in the near-field region for purely azimuthal LG beams characterized by a nonzero azimuthal mode number mLG. The morphology o... [Phys. Description: Author(s): A. P. Kiselev, A. B. Plachenov, and P. Chamorro-Posada We present exact solutions of the wave equation involving an arbitrary wave form with a phase closely similar to the general astigmatic phase of paraxial wave optics. Special choices of the wave form allow general astigmatic beamlike and pulselike waves with a Gaussian-type unrestricted localization... [Phys. Rev. A 85, 043835] Published Fri Apr 20, 2012

Notes: Abstract The behavior of the transport coefficients related to diffusion, heat conduction, and their cross-processes in fluid mixtures near the consolute point and the liquid-vapor critical line is investigated. Simple crossover equations for the critical enhancement of those coefficients are developed by incorporating a finite cutoff and time-dependent correlation functions of the order parameter and of the entropy into decoupled-mode theory integrals. It is shown that the thermal conductivity of a binary mixture is nondivergent and the crossover from the critical background in the critical point to the regular background far from the critical point is elucidated. The crossover to the behavior of the thermal conductivity in the one-component limit is also discussed.

Notes: Abstract A new universal scaled equation of state for one-component fluids, binary mixtures, and ionic solutions, which represents the thermodynamic behavior of fluids in a wide range of temperatures and densities including the critical region, is proposed. Near the critical point this equation reduces to a theoretically based scaled equation including the leading nonasymptotic (Wegner) correction and a correction accounting for the asymmetry of fluids with respect to the critical isochore. Far away from the critical point the new equation goes over into the classical Landau expansion (van der Waals equation). The new equation is applied to represent experimental P-V-T data for H2O and CO2, as well as to represent C v,x data for dilute aqueous solutions of NaCl. A crossover from fluctuation to mean-field behavior is observed at increased concentrations of NaCl. A universal crossover function for the heat capacity C v,x of one-component fluids and binary mixtures is presented.

Notes: Abstract On the basis of the isomorphism of critical phenomena, the behavior of transport properties of binary mixtures in the vicinity of the vapor-liquid critical line is considered. In particular, the renormalization of the singularity of the thermal conductivity in dilute critical solutions has been analyzed in detail. It is shown that the behavior of the thermal conductivity is determined by the “critical background,” i.e., the fluctuation-induced regular part, which diverges at the critical point of a solvent.

Notes: Abstract An improved parametric equation for the thermodynamic properties of fluids is presented that incorporates the crossover from singular thermodynamic behavior in the immediate vicinity of the critical point to regular thermodynamic behavior far away from the critical point. Based on a comparison with experimental data for ethane and methane, it is demonstrated that the crossover model is capable of representing the thermodynamic properties of fluids in a large range of temperatures and densities around the critical point.
