Description / Table of Contents: Glasfaserverstärkte Epoxidlaminate wurden aus den Matrixharzen Tetraglycidyldiaminodiphenylmethan (TGDDM) und Tetraglycidylbis(o-toluidino)methan (TGMBT) unter Verwendung von Härtern wie 4,4′-Diaminodiphenylmethan (DDM), 4,4′-Diaminodiphenylsulfon (DDS) und Diethylentriamin (DETA) hergestellt.
Notes: Glass fiber-reinforced epoxy composites were prepared from the matrix resins tetraglycidyl diaminodiphenylmethaneSystematic name: N,N,N′,N′-Tetrakis(2,3-epoxypropyl)-4,4′-diaminodiphenylmethane. (TGDDM) and tetraglycidyl bis(o-toluidino)-methaneSystematic name: N,N,N′,N′-Tetrakis(2,3-epoxypropyl)-4,4′-bis(o-toluidino)methane. (TGMBT) using various amines like 4,4′-diaminodiphenylmethane (DDM), 4,4′-diaminodiphenylsulfone (DDS) and diethylene triamine (DETA) as curing agents. The fabricated laminates were evaluated for their mechanical and dielectrical properties and chemical resistance. The composites prepared using an epoxy fortifier (20 phr) showed significant improvement in the mechanical properties.

Notes: The grafting of polyacrylamide on to guar gum in aqueous medium initiated by the potassium persulfate/ascorbic acid redox system has been studied gravimetrically at the temperature 35 ± 0.2°C in the presence of atmospheric oxygen and Ag+ ions. The rate of grafting was found to increase with temperature, concentration of redox components, acrylamide, and guar gum. But at higher concentration of guar gum, the rate of grafting was found to decrease. A mechanism for grafting and suitable rate expression have been suggested.

Notes: The grafting of acrylamide onto guar gum in aqueous medium initiated by KMnO4/oxalic acid redox system has been studied gravimetrically at the temperature 35 ± 0.2°C. The effect of redox components, acrylamide concentration and quantity of guar gum has been studied in terms of percentage and efficiency of grafting. A plausible mechanism of grafting and a suitable rate expression has been suggested. The rate of grafting was found to increase with increase in temperature and concentrations of redox components and acrylamide, but, at high concentration of guar gum, the rate was found to decrease.

Notes: Amino group-terminated poly(methylene diphenylene terephthalamide) (PMDTA) was prepared using a phosphorylation technique that was then converted into Schiff's base coordination polymers by their reaction with Co(II), Ni(II), and Cu(II) complexes of salicylaldehyde [M(SAL)2] and 2-hydroxy-1-naphthaldehyde [M (NAPTHAL)2]. The resulting coordination polymers were characterized by IR, elemental analysis, magnetic susceptibility measurements, and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). TGA shows that coordination polymers are more thermally stable than is the ligand under similar conditions. On the basis of observed results, an oxygen-and nitrogen-coordinated structure for polyar-amid-metal complexes has been proposed. © 1993 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.

Notes: The tensile properties of polyether-based polyurethane (PU) filaments decrease with increasing chlorine concentrations as well as with treatment times. Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) results show the formation of quinoid, azo, and aldehyde groups in the chlorine-treated PU, and increased hydrogen bonding between the C—O—C in the soft segment and the N—H in the hard segments. A breakdown mechanism involving chain cleavages along the ether linkages in the soft segments as well as at the urethane linkages of the hard-soft segment interfaces is proposed. Chlorine-treated PU showed increased solubility in tetrahydrofuran (THF). The molecular weight data of the THF-soluble portion of treated PU also support the proposed locations of chain scissions. The increased soft segment Tg and Tm with increasing chlorine concentrations are results of increased phase-mixing and hydrogen bonding. © 1997 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. Notes: The grafting of poly(acrylonitrile) onto guar gum in aqueous medium initiated by the potassium presulfate/ascorbic acid redox system has been studied gravimetrically at the temperature of 35 + 0.2°C in the presence of atmospheric oxygen. A plausible mechanism of graft copolymerization has been suggested on the basis of experimental results. The effect of grafting on the water and saline retention capacities has been studied and compared with the values obtained for ungrafted guar gum. © 1993 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.
