Description / Table of Contents:
Some new derivatives of styrene with several ethyl groups in the aromatic ring as 2,3,4,5,6-pentaethylstyrene, a mixture of 2,3,5,6- and 2,3,4,6-tetraethylstyrene and 2,3,4,5-tetraethylstyrene have been prepared. They were compared with known compounds as 2,4,5-triethylstyrene and 2,5-diethylstyrene. It was shown that 2,6-diethyl-substituted acetophenones could be reduced only partially by lithium aluminium hydride and that there resulted a mixture of ketone and alcohol. Styrene monomers with two ethyl substitutents in position 2 and 6 could not be polymerized or copolymerized with other monomers. All the other ethylated styrenes gave readily polymers which were insouble and cross-linked in special cases. The thermal behaviour of these polymers was examined and discussed.
Notes:
