    Description / Table of Contents: The reaction-accelerating effect of fluorides during the pickling of scale-affected iron partsOn the strength of the knowledge: 1that the iron oxides Wüstite, Hematite and Magnetite are differently affected by normal pickling acids, and1that a very weak hydrofluoric acid dissolves bare iron exceptionally slowly, but magnetite exceptionally rapidly, the solubility of the magnetites difficult to dissolve in acid was systematically tested in inorganic acids (HCl, H 2 SO 4) and in organic acids (formic acid, acetic acid, citric acid), with and without admixture of fluoric acid or bi-fluorides. The chemical reactions are represented in the form of reaction equations. Reference is made to the high inhibiting effect of commercial inhibitors and the useful technical application of highly diluted fluoric acid or fluor-activated acids in pickling technology.
    Notes: Ausgehend von der Erkenntnis: 1daß die Eisenoxyde Wüstit, Hämatit und Magnetit von den üblichen Beizsäuren unterschiedlich angegriffen werden und1daß sebr schwache Flußsäure blankes Eisen ungewöhnlich langsam, Magnetit aber auffallend schnell löst, wurde die Löslichkeit des schwer säurelöslichen Magnetits in anorganischen (HCl, H2SO4) und organischen Säuren (Ameisen-, Essig-, Citronensäure) mit und ohne Zusatz von Flußsäure bzw. Bifluoriden systematisch untersucht. Das ablaufende chemische Geschehen wurde in Form von Reaktionsgleichungen dargestellt. Auf die hohe Hemmwirkung handelsüblicher Inhibitoren und den nutzbringenden technischen Einsatz stark verdünnter Flußsäure bzw. fluoraktivierter Säuren in der Beiztechnik wird hingewiesen.

    Description / Table of Contents: Meta-halogenierte Phenole sind bekanntermaßen chemisch und thermisch stabiler als ihre ortho- oder para-halogenierten Analoga. Die Verwendung eines reaktiven Zwischenproduktes, hergestellt durch Bromierung von 2,4,6-Trimethylphenol, als Alkylierungsmittel für den Einbau der stabilen m-Bromphenol-Einheit in verschiedene organische Substanzen und Polymere wird beschrieben. Bei der Anwendung als Verkapselungsmaterialien für elektronische Bauteile zeigten sich Epoxid-Derivate von Novolaken mit m-Bromphenol-Einheiten bezüglich hydrolytischer und thermischer Stabilität den konventionellen Tetrabrombisphenol-A-Epoxidharzen, die ortho- und para-bromiert sind, überlegen. Die m-Bromphenolgruppe verbessert die Bauteilzuverlässigkeit bei gleichzeitiger Erfüllung der Anforderungen an das Brandverhalten.
    Notes: Meta-halogenated phenols are generally known to be more chemically and thermally stable than their ortho- or para-halogenated counterparts. A reactive intermediate, produced by the bromination of 2,4,6-trimethylphenol is being used as an alkylating agent to incorporate this stable m-bromophenol moiety into varieties of organic compounds and polymers. In electronic encapsulation applications, epoxy derivatives of novolacs containing m-bromophenol have exhibited superior hydrolytic and thermal stability as compared with the conventional tetrabromo bisphenol-A epoxies which are ortho-brominated phenolics. The m-bromophenol moiety contributes to the extended device reliability while meeting flame retardency requirements as well.

    Description / Table of Contents: Sodium carboxy cellulose with a degree of substitution up to 0.8 can be prepared by oxidation of cellulose with NaNO2/H3PO4 and subsequent treatment with NaBH4. The extent of oxidation increases with raising molecular weight ranging from 170 to 1500 of the starting material. IR and NMR studies show that only the C-6 atom of the anhydroglucose unit is oxidized. The sodium carboxy celluloses show a high tendency to form ionotropic gels even in spherical shape with calcium ions. The mechanically stable gels are characterized by investigation of the swelling behaviour and SEM.
    Notes: Natriumcarboxycellulose mit einem Substitutionsgrad bis 0,8 kann durch Oxidation von Cellulose mit einem Polymerisationsgrad im Bereich von 170 bis 1500 mit NaNO2/H3PO4 und anschließender Behandlung mit NaBH4 hergestellt werden. Das Ausmaß der Oxidation steigt mit wachsender Molmasse des Ausgangsmaterials. IR-und NMR-Untersuchungen zeigen, daß nur das C-6-Atom der Anhydroglucoseeinheit oxidiert ist. Die Natriumcarboxycellulosen weisen eine hohe Tendenz zur ionotropen Gelbildung auch in sphärischer Form mit Calciumionen auf. Die mechanisch stabilen Gele werden durch Quellungsuntersuchungen und REM charakterisiert.

    Description / Table of Contents: The ring-opening polymerization of glycerol formal (GF) with alkali metals (M) in liquid ammonia yielded cation-conducting polymers (MxPGF). The conductivities depend on the alkoxide content in the polymer. Na0.1 PGF has κRT = 3.75 · 10-4 S/cm. Poly(glycerol formal) alkoxides can be reacted with CO2, CS2 or SO2 to the corresponding halfester salts. The PGF-O-sulfonate (NaSO2)0.1 PGF is thermally stable up to 100°C and has κRT = 6.5 · 10-4 S/cm.
    Notes: Durch ringöffnende Polymerisation von Glycerinformal (GF) mit Alkalimetallen (M) in flüssigem Ammoniak konnten kationisch leitende Polymere (MxPGF) synthetisiert werden. Die Leitfähigkeiten κ hängen vom Alkoholatanteil im Polymeren ab. Na0,1PGF zeigt ein κRT = 3,75 · 10-4 S/cm. Poly(glycerinformal)-Alkoholate lassen sich mit CO2, CS2, oder SO2 zu entsprechenden Halbestersalzen umsetzen. Das PGF-O-Sulfonat (NaSO2)0,1PGF ist bis 100°C thermostabil und hat ein κRT = 6,5 · 10-4 S/cm.

    Notes: This work addresses the problem of signal resolution by partial least-squares regression (PLS) for differential pulse stripping voltammograms. The performance of PLS is demonstrated for an example of calibration with mixtures of two analytes (Tl+ and Pb2+) with strongly overlapping voltammograms. The accuracy of the determination of concentrations for validation mixtures was found to be considerably higher with PLS than with simple evaluation using currents observed at two potentials (requiring resolution of a system of two linear equations with two unknowns). Hence, PLS is recommended for computer-assisted, on-line voltammetric analysis of multicomponent systems.
