Notes: Vilsmeier formylation of the 4-amino-2-pyridinones 4a-d leads to the formation of the corresponding 3-carbaldehydes 5a-d (the diformylated product 8 is isolated as a by-product). A cyclizing Knoevenagel reaction of 5 with CH-acidic nitriles 6 in the presence of piperidine gives substituted 2-imino-1,6(6H)-naphthyridin-5-ones 7a-p which have been shown by means of 1H-NMR and 1H-NOE measurements not to rearrange to 9. The products 7 are resistant against hydrolysis and only the ester group can be hydrolysed to an acid, 7q. Compounds 7c, d, f display in vitro antituberculosis activity.

Notes: The products formed on UV irradiation of several tricyclic compounds (i.e. 3, 6, 8, 15, and 17, Schemes 2-4) were studied in detail. A marked dependence of the reaction course on the type and site of substitution was found. Among the several light-induced transformations, a novel rearrangement, i.e. 11 to 9 (Scheme 3) was identified. The formation of the polycyclic compound 13 on irradiation of 8a (Scheme 3) resulted from an unexpected skeletal rearrangement with dearomatization of one benzene ring. The structures of compounds 10, 11, and 13 were established by X-ray crystallography (Figs. 1-3). An attempt was made to give a general mechanistic picture of all observed photochemical results (Schemes 4-6).

Notes: Cycloaddition of the allenic acid 3 with the N -cyclohexyl-N′ -heteroaromatic carbodiimides 2a and 2b gave the isomeric pyrido[1,2-a]pyrimidinones 4 and 5 and thiazolo[3,2-a]pyrimidinones 6 and 7, respectively, instead of the expected Diels-Alder adducts analogous to 1. The compounds of the latter type, i.e. 8 and 9, were formed from 3 and carbodiimides 2c and 2d, respectively, containing an N′-(pyrazin-2-yl) or N′-(pyrimidin-2-yl) substituent.

Notes: The 2-azatricyclo[5.2.2.01,5]undeca-4,8,10-trien-3-ones 1a and 1b gave on irradiation the 2-azatricyclo-[6.2.1.01,5]undeca-4,6,9-trien-3-ones 2a and 2b, respectively. The rearrangement was found to be solvent-, oxygen-, and wavelength-independant.

Description / Table of Contents: Preparation and Properties of 1-Norbornyl Copper1-Norbornyl copper was synthesized from copper(II) acetylacetonate and 1-norbornyl lithium. The compound shows an unexpected stability and decomposes only at ca. 80°C with precipitation of copper and formation of norbornyl radicals which were proved by spin-trap experiments. A further characterization was performed by the IR and 13C-NMR spectra.

Description / Table of Contents: Contribution to the Chemistry of Transition Metal Alkyl Compounds. XXVIII. Benzylation of the Trivalent Titanium, Vanadium, and Chromium AcetylacetonatesBzCr(acac)2, 2Bz(Vacac)2 · Mg(acac)2 and 3BzV(acac)2 · Al(acac)3 were obtained in definite form by reaction of Cr(acac)3 and V(acac)3 with Bz3Al, Bz2Mg, and BzMgCl. Ti(acac)3, reacts with Bz2Mg and BzLi forming deep green Bz3Ti, which could'nt be isolated free of impurities (Bz = C6H5CH2, acacH = acetylacetone).

Description / Table of Contents: Struktur der Gläser des TeO2-MoO3-SystemsEs werden Strukturmodelle für TeO2-MoO3-Gläser vorgeschlagen.
Notes: Structural models for glasses of the TeO2-MoO3 system are suggested. On the basis of X-ray and infrared spectral investigations, by comparing with known crystalline structures of TeO2, MoO3 and Te2MoO7(T2M), it is shown that the glasses from TeO2 to Te2MoO7 possess [TeO4] and [MoO5] groups as basic structural units. The latter are connected to form [Mo2O8] complexes. The glasses in the MoO3-rich compositional range are built up of [TeO3] and [MoO6] polyhedra. The glass-formation tendency is discussed in relation to the role of the free electron pair and the disruption of secondary and weak primary bonds in the crystals.

Description / Table of Contents: Experimental Investigations on the Tungsten Transport in Systems Containing Fluorine CompoundsInformation on the chemical processes in tungsten incandescent lamps containing gaseous fluorides are obtained by i.r. and u.v. spectroscopic and mass spectrometric analysis of the gasphase as well as by investigating the deposits at the wall and the changes at the filament. Due to the involvement of the wall in the reaction fluorine carrier gases are converted irreversibly into SiF4 which also maintains the chemical tungsten transport. In systems containing fluorine and bromine silicon bromide fluorides are formed.
