Notes: A method of deriving peptide sequence information using partial acid hydrolysis in combination with accurate mass measurements and immonium ion analysis provided by high-resolution plasma desorption mass spectrometry has been developed. The technique is very simple in terms of the chemistry and involves a short-time (3-30 min) incubation of the peptide in 1N-6N HCl at 100-110°C with subsequent mass spectrometric analysis. Partial acid hydrolysis is found to produce sequence-specific segments, often ladder-like, although not always a complete set. Two application examples of the method are given: the linear peptide bradykinin and desmopressin, a peptide with an internal S—S bond and a non-amino-acid constituent. The technique has proved to be particularly useful in cases where some a priori information on the peptide structure was already known or where the automated Edman degradation technique might yield erratic results or not work at all.

Notes: Bei der Umsetzung von 2- und 4-Picolin-halogenmethylaten mit p-Nitroso-dimethyl-anilin werden Nitrone (z. B. II), mit p-Nitrosodiäthyl-anilin dagegen die entsprechenden Anile (z. B. Ib) erhalten.

Description / Table of Contents: Monomeric Bis and Tris(amides) of IndiumThe synthesis of tris(2,2,6,6-tetramethylpiperidino)indium 1 and of bis(2,2,6,6-tetramethylpiperidino)indium bromide 2 are described. Both compounds were characterized by NMR and mass spectroscopy. They are monomeric in solution and gasphase. A crystal structure analysis of 1, also described in this work, proofs monomeric 1 in the solid state, too.

Description / Table of Contents: Contributions to the Chemistry of Transition Metal Alkyl Compounds. XLVI. Polarographic Properties of Dibenzyl and Diphenyl Titanium in Aprotic SolventsThe polarographic properties of dibenzyl and diphenyl titanium were investigated using acetonitrile (AN), dimethylformamide (DMF), and dimethylsulfoxide (DMSO) as solvents. Both compounds are reduced irreversibly at very negative potentials in a two-electron step with formation of titanium. The half-wave potentials depend on the donor strength of the solvents. With increasing donor number the half-wave potentials are shifted to more negative values. The fact that the limiting currents turned out to be diffusion controlled suggests a monomeric structure of the titanium diorganyls in AN, DMF, and DMSO.

Description / Table of Contents: It is shown that in porphin derivatives the McLafferty rearrangement occurs preferentially in even electron systems, in fact with high relative abundance starting from M2+, but less favorably in ions formed by elimination of a radical. Starting from this observation the formulation of a general scheme for the McLafferty rearrangement is attempted.

Notes: Complexes of bismuth with thiourea, phenyl thiourea, p-toluyl thiourea and urea have been studied electrometrically, employing the Pt/W and Bi/W bimetallic electrode systems. Two complexes of the general type 2 BiCl3 · 3 CS(NH2)2 and BiCl3 · 3 CS(NH2)2 have been observed. A possible structural formula for the stable complex BiCl3 · 2 CS(NH2)2 has been proposed.
