    Description / Table of Contents: Neue Harze wurden aus o-Hydroxyacetophenon durch Reaktion mit substituierten aromatischen Verbindungen und Formaldehyd in Anwesenheit verschiedener Säuren und Basen als Katalysatoren nach zwei Verfahren hergestellt. Die Polymeren wurden mit Hilfe der IR-Spektroskopie charakterisiert. Die thermischen, chemischen und Lösungseigenschaften der Harze, die nach der Methode von Small berechnet wurden, stimmen gut mit den experimentell ermittelten Werten überein. Die Harze sind ziemlich thermostabil, und die Aktivierungsenergie wurde aus der Thermogravimetriekurve nach Freeman-Anderson und Broido bestimmt.
    Notes: New resins have been synthesized from o-hydroxyacetophenone by reaction with substituted aromatic compounds and formaldehyde in the presence of various acids and bases as catalyst following two different techniques. The polymer samples are characterized by IR spectra. The solution, thermal, and chemical properties of the resins are investigated. The solubility parameters of the resins calculated according to the investigations of Small agree well with the experimental values. The resins are found to be fairly thermostable and the energy of activation is evaluated from TG curve by applying (i) Freeman-Anderson method and (ii) Broido method.

The resins were characterized by infrared spectra. The solubility parameters were calculated from Small's group contribution which agreed well with the experimental value. The bacteriocidal properties of the resins have been studied.

    Notes: The reactivity ratios, thermal behavior, and the bacteriocidal properties of the resins prepared from substituted acetophenones, i.e., m-aminoacetophenone, o-hydroxyacetophenone, and m-hydroxyacetophenone, have been investigated. The results obtained from the bacteriocidal studies are found to be quite interesting. Some of the resins synthesized are potent bacteriocides. The simple Kelen - Tüdös linear graphical method was used to determine the order of reactivity of substituted acetophenones when they are copolymerized with halogen-substituted anilines, i.e., o-chloroaniline, m-chloroaniline, and p-chloroaniline. The resins are found to be thermally stable and the energy of activation have been evaluated from TG curve by applying the Freeman - Anderson and Broido methods.

    Description / Table of Contents: Früher wurde beschrieben, daß das Anwachsen der Kettenlänge des Alkoholrestes in Estern der homologen Reihe von Polymethacrylaten die Eigenschaften dieser Verbindungen in Lösung beeinflußt. In der vorliegenden Arbeit wird über die Ergebnisse von Untersuchungen des osmotischen Druckes und über Lichtstreuungs- und Viskositätsmessungen von Polyäthyl- und Poly-n-propylacrylat in Methyläthylketon berichtet. Die Viskositäts- Molekulargewichts-Beziehung für die beiden Polymeren wurde aufgestellt. Die Konzentrationsabhängigkeit von [II/RTc] und [Hc/tau;] wurde bestimmt, die Ergebnisse wurden im Hinblick auf die Wechselwirkung von Polymeren und Lösungsmittel erörtert. Der Wechselwirkungsparameter χ und der mittlere Kettenendenabstand der polymeren Kette (r2)1/2 werden weitgehend durch die Wechselwirkung des α-Wasserstoffatoms des Polymeren einerseits und der Carbonylgruppe des Lösungsmittels andererseits beeinflußt. Wie aus der Theorie zu erwarten war, sinkt der zweite Koeffizient A2 mit dem Molekulargewicht, während der zweite Virialkoeffizient Γ2 steigt; die Koeffizienten A2Mw/[η] und Φ bleiben ziemlich konstant.
    Notes: Formerly it was reported that the length of the alcoholic residue of the homologous series of poly methacrylates affects their solution properties. In the present paper the results of osmotic pressure, light scattering, and viscosity measurements of poly(ethyl-) and poly-(n-propyl acrylate) in ethyl methyl ketone have been reported. The viscosity molecular weight relationship has been established for the two polymers. The concentration dependence of [II/RTc] and Hc/τ have been determined and the results have been discussed in light of polymer-solvent interaction. The interaction parameter χ and the root meansquare end-to-end distance of the polymer chain (r2)1/2 are largely influenced by the interaction between the α-hydrogen atom of the polymer and the carbonyl group of the solvent. As expected from theory the second coefficient A2 decreases and the second virial coefficient Γ2 increases with molecular weight and the coefficients A2Mw/[η] and Φ are fairly constant.

    Description / Table of Contents: Die kationische Polymerisation von 3.3-Bis-chlormethyl-oxacyclobutan mit wasserfreiem Aluminiumchlorid wurde bei verschiedenen Temperaturen, Initiatorkonzentrationen und Polymerisationszeiten untersucht mit dem Ziel, höhermolekulare Polymere zu erhalten. Die Beziehung zwischen der Viskosität in Cyclohexanon und dem Molekulargewicht des Polymeren wurde bestimmt. Auf Grund der Resultate wird ein Mechanismus vorgeschlagen, welcher dem der Polymerisation mit BF3 ähnlich ist.
    Notes: The cationic polymerization of 3.3-bis-(chloromethyl)-oxacyclobutane with anhydrous aluminium chloride was studied varying the temperature, initiator concentration, and reaction time in order to get a polymer of high molecular weight. The viscosity-molecular weight relationship of this polymer was determined in cyclohexanone. A mechanism similar to that proposed for BF3 as initiator has been put forwarded in the light of experimental results obtained.
