    Description: The human brain is able to integrate a myriad of information in an enormous and massively parallel network of neurons that are divided into functionally specialized regions such as the visual cortex, auditory cortex, or dorsolateral prefrontal cortex. Each of these regions participates as a context-dependent, self-organized, and transient subnetwork, which is shifted by changes in attention every 0.5 to 2 s. This leads to one of the most puzzling issues in cognitive neuroscience, well known as the "binding problem." The concept of neural synchronization tries to explain the problem by encoding information using coherent states, which temporally patterns neural activity. We show that memristive devices, that is, a two-terminal variable resistor that changes its resistance depending on the previous charge flow, allow a new degree of freedom for this concept: a local memory that supports transient connectivity patterns in oscillator networks. On the basis of the probability distribution of the resistance switching process of Ag-doped titanium dioxide memristive devices, a local plasticity model is proposed, which causes an autonomous phase and frequency locking in an oscillator network. To illustrate the performance of the proposed computing paradigm, the temporal binding problem is investigated in a network of memristively coupled self-sustained van der Pol oscillators. We show evidence that the implemented network allows achievement of the transition from asynchronous to multiple synchronous states, which opens a new pathway toward the construction of cognitive electronics.

    Description: Changes in the formation of dense water in the Arctic Ocean and Nordic Seas [the “Arctic Mediterranean” (AM)] probably contributed to the altered climate of the last glacial period. We examined past changes in AM circulation by reconstructing radiocarbon ventilation ages of the deep Nordic Seas over the past 30,000 years. Our results show that the glacial deep AM was extremely poorly ventilated (ventilation ages of up to 10,000 years). Subsequent episodic overflow of aged water into the mid-depth North Atlantic occurred during deglaciation. Proxy data also suggest that the deep glacial AM was ~2° to 3°C warmer than modern temperatures; deglacial mixing of the deep AM with the upper ocean thus potentially contributed to the melting of sea ice, icebergs, and terminal ice-sheet margins.

    Description / Table of Contents: Synthesis and Molecular Structure of a Metal Cluster with Cubane Structure, [η5-C5H5Mo(CO)3HgMo]4(4)The compound [η5-C5H5Mo(CO)3HgMo]4 has been isolated as an additional product of the reaction between [η5-C5H5Mo(CO)3]2, 2-butenyl chloride, and sodium amalgam. The X-ray structure (R = 0·050) analysis of this novel species revealed that the compound has a slightly distorted cubane structure, for the first time the cubane unit being built up by two different metal atoms (Mo and Hg).
    Notes: Die Verbindung [η5-C5H5Mo(CO)3HgMo]4 (4) wurde als weiteres Produkt der Reaktion zwischen [η5-C5H5Mo(CO)3]2, 2-Butenylchlorid und Natriumamalgam isoliert. Die Röntgenstrukturanalyse dieser neuartigen Spezies zeigt eine leicht verzerrte Cubanstruktur, bei der das Cubangerüst erstmals aus zwei verschiedenen Metallatomen (Mo und Hg) aufgebaut ist. Der R-Wert beträgt 0·050.

    Description / Table of Contents: Synthesis and X-Ray Structure Determination of [InCl4(H2O)2][S4N3] - a Tetrachloro-cis-diaqua Complex of Indium(III)The compounds [InCl4(H2O)2][S4N3] (I) and In2Cl8H2O(S4N3)2 (II) were synthesized and the structure of the former determined by x-ray methods. The compound crystallizes in the space group D2h16-Pnam, the unit cell dimensions are a = 19.473 ± 0.003 Å, b = 6.183 ± 0.003 Å, c = 10.814 ± 0.003 Å. Least squares refinement has reached R = 4.9%.
    Notes: Die Verbindungen [InCl4(H2O)2][S4N3] (I) und In2Cl8H2O(S4N3)2 (II) wurden dargestellt und die Struktur der ersteren mittels Röntgenstrukturanalyse bestimmt. Die Verbindung kristallisiert in der Raumgruppe D2h16 - Pnam mit den Gitterkonstanten a = 19,473 ű 0,003 Å, b = 6,183 ± 0,003 Å, c = 10,814 ± 0,003 Å. Die Verfeinerung nach der Methode der kleinsten Quadrate ergab einen R-Wert von 4,9%.

The Photochemical Reaction of Mn2(CO)10 with 1,3-or 1,4-CyclohexadieneThe products of the photochemical reaction between Mn2(CO)10 and 1,3- or 1,4-cyclohexadiene have been separated by preparative layer chromatography under nitrogen and have been characterized by means of mass and infrared spectroscopy. Besides compounds which have been reported otherwere species like Mn2(CO)8C6H8 could be isolated.
    Notes: Die Produkte der photochemischen Reaktion zwischen Mn2(CO)10 und 1,3- bzw. 1,4-Cyclohexadien wurden mittels präparativer Schichtchromatographie unter Luftausschluß getrennt und anhand ihrer Massen- bzw. IR-Spektren charakterisiert. Neben bereits auf anderem Wege dargestellten Verbindungen konnten Spezies wie Mn2(CO)8C6H8 nachgewiesen werden.

    Description / Table of Contents: X-Ray Structure Analysis of the Triply Methoxo Bridged Complexes η3-Cycloheptatrienyldicarbonylmolybdenumtris-(μ-methoxo)-η7-cycloheptatrienylmolybdenum, η3-C7H7(CO)2MO(μ-OCH3)3Mo-η7-C7H7 and η3-Cycloheptatrienyldicarbonyltungstentris-(μ-methoxo)-η4-cycloheptatriendicarbonyltungsten, η3-C7H7(CO)2 W(μ-OCH3)3W-η4-C7H8(CO)2The crystal and molecular structure of the analogously synthesized complexes η3-C7H7(CO)2Mo (μ-OCH3)3Mo-η7-C7H7 and η3-C7H7(CO)2W (μ-OCH3)3W- η4-C7H8(CO)2 have been determined by means of X-ray structure analysis. The arrangement of the bridges in the triclinic molybdenum complex shows approximate C3v-symmetry, in the tungsten complex Cs-symmetry. In the paramagnetic mixed-valence molybdenum species the C7H7 rings are η3- and η7-bound respectively, in the diamagnetic tungsten complex there is a η3-coordinated C7H8 ligand besides a η4-coordinated C7H8 ligand. The Mo-Mo and W-W distances are in the range of a single bond, to the contrary the metal-O-metal angles do not indicate metal-metal interaction.
    Notes: Die Kristall- und Molekülstrukturen der analog hergestellten Komplexe η3-C7H7(CO)2Mo (μ-OCH3)3Mo-η7-C7H7 und η3-C7H7 (CO)2W(μ-OCH3)3W- η4C7H8(CO)2 wurden mit tels Röntgenstrukturanlyse ermittelt. Die Anordnung der Brücken im triklinen Molybdänkomplex weist angenähert C3v-Symmetrie auf, im monoklinen Wolframkomplex C8-Symmetrie. In der paramagnetischen mixed-valence Molybdänspezies sind die C7H7-Ringe η3- bzw. η7-gebunden, im diamagnetischen Wolframkomplex liegt ein η3-koordinierter C7H7- bzw. ein η4-gebundener C7H8-Ligand vor.

    Description / Table of Contents: Reactions of the Cycloheptatrienyl Complexes [η7-C7H7W(CO)3]BF4 and η7-C7H7Mo(CO)2Br with Neutral Ligands and the Electrochemical Reduction of the Wolfram ComplexCompounds of the type [η7-C7H7M(CO)2L][BF4] (L = P(C6H5)3, As(C6H5)3, Sb(C6H5)3 for M = W and L = N2H4 for M = Mo) were synthesized and characterisized. The iodide η7-C7H7W(CO)2I reacts with the diphosphine ((C6H5)2PCH2)2 to give the trihapto complex η3-C7H7 W(CO)2I((C6H5)2PCH2)2. In the case of η7-C7H7Mo(CO)2 Br reaction with hydrazine leads to the substitution product [η7-C7H7 Mo(CO)2N2H4]⊕, which can be stabilized by large anions. The binuclear complex [C7H7W(CO)3]2 has been synthesized electrochemically.
    Notes: Verbindungen des Typs [η7-C7H7M(CO)2L][BF4] (L = P(C4H5)3, As(C6H5)3, Sb(C6H5)3 für M = W und L = N2H4 für M = Mo) wurden hergestellt und charakterisiert. Der zweizähnige Diphosphinligand ((C6H5)2PCH2)2 ergibt mit dem Jodid η7-C7H7W(CO)2J die Trihaptoverbindung η3-C7H7W(CO)2((C6H5)2PCH2)2 J. Die Umsetzung der Molybdänverbindung η7-C7H7Mo(CO)2Br mit Hydrazin führt zu den Substitutionsprodukten [η7-C7H7Mo(CO)2N2H4]⊕, Hydrazinkomplexen mit einem Cycloheptatrienyl-Coliganden, die mittels großer Anionen stabilisiert werden können. Auf elektrochemischen Wege wurde der Zweikernkomplex [C7H7W(CO)3]2 hergestellt.
