    Notes: Abstract Oxynitride optical properties in the visible-ultraviolet spectral range are very interesting, due to their use in electronic device manufacturing. This paper presents spectra of refractive index and extinction coefficient of oxynitride films deposited on silicon with different composition, as derived from spectroscopic ellipsometry measurements on the basis of an effective medium approach. These data evidence the presence of a Si-rich layer on the oxynitride/silicon interface. Electronic polarizability and energy gap of all compounds were evaluated. Moreover, absolute reflectance of the samples was derived from optical functions and compared with the measured value.

    Description / Table of Contents: Zusammenfassung Eine Methode zur Bestimmung von Kupfer, Cadmium, Blei und Zink in Germanium und in dessen Legierung mit Selen und Tellur wurde beschrieben. Die genannten Spurenelemente wurden mittels „stripping voltammetry” in natriumchlorid-haltigem Milieu bestimmt. Die Matrixbestandteile wurden vorher durch Extraktion des Germaniums mit Tetrachlorkohlenstoff sowie durch Abscheidung von Selen und Tellur mittels Schwefeldioxid entfernt. Außerdem wurde die Bestimmung auch der Matrixbestandteile beschrieben: Germanium wurde mit Tannin gefällt und zum Dioxid verglüht; Selen und Tellur wurden mit Schwefeldioxid bei verschiedener Acidität getrennt und in elementarer Form bestimmt.
    Notes: Summary An analytical method has been designed for determination of microtraces of copper, cadmium, lead and zinc in germanium and in germanium, selenium and tellurium alloys. All the trace elements were simultaneously determined by stripping voltammetry in a sodium chloride medium. The sample matrix was previously removed by a simple procedure requiring germanium extraction into carbon tetrachloride, and separation of selenium and tellurium by sulphur dioxide. In addition, a procedure for matrix component determination is described: germanium was precipitated with tannin and then ignited to the dioxide; selenium and tellurium were separated with sulphur dioxide at different acidity and determined as the elements.

    Description / Table of Contents: Zusammenfassung Ein indirektes, auf der Messung von Silber beruhendes Verfahren zur Bestimmung von Chlorid und Bromid in Wismut- und Bleitelluriden wurde entwickelt. Die Proben werden in verd. Salpetersäure gelöst und die Halogenide als Silbersalze scharf abzentrifugiert. Der Silberüberschuß wird unmittelbar aus dem Filtrat mit Dithizonlösung extrahiert und spektro-photometrisch gemessen. Geeignete Maßnahmen zur Maskierung störender Elemente wurden angegeben, so daß ein sehr selektives Verfahren zur Silberbestimmung vorliegt. Bis zu 0,01 Molprozent Chlorid und Bromid sind noch bestimmbar. Außerdem wurde ein Verfahren zur Chlorid- und Bromidbestimmung in Gegenwart von Jodid entwickelt.
    Notes: Summary An indirect analytical method, based on measurement of silver, for determining chloride and bromide in bismuth and lead tellurides was developed. The samples were dissolved in dilute nitric acid and the halides were separated as the silver salts by strong centrifugation. The excess of silver was directly determined in the sample solution by solvent extraction with dithizone in carbon tetrachloride and by spectrophotometric determination. Suitable conditions for masking interfering elements were established so that a very selective procedure for silver determination was achieved. Chloride and bromide down to 0.01 mole % could be determined. A procedure for determining chloride and bromide in the same sample with no interference from iodide, was also developed.

    Description / Table of Contents: Zusammenfassung Einfache analytische Methoden für die Untersuchung der stöchiometrischen Zusammensetzung binärer Kobalt-Seltenerd-Legierungen wurden vorgeschlagen. Ternäre Systeme mit Eisen oder Kupfer wurden gleichfalls untersucht. Amperometrische Titrationen zur Bestimmung des Metallgehaltes mittels spezifischer Reagenzien (2-Nitroso-l-naphthol oder Ce(IV)sulfat für Kobalt und ÄDTA für die Seltenerde) wurden ausgearbeitet. Die Fehler liegen unter 0,3–0,4% für Kobalt und 0,8–1% für die Seltenerde bei Einwaagen von etwa 10 mg.
    Notes: Summary Simple analytical methods are proposed for investigating the stoichiometric composition of binary cobalt-rare earth alloys. Ternary systems containing iron or copper were also examined. Amperometric titrations were performed to determine the metal with the aid of the specific reagents 2-nitroso-l-naphthol or cerium(IV) sulphate for cobalt and EDTA for the rare earth. The errors were less than 0.3–0.4% for cobalt and 0.8–1% for the rare earth with samples weighing about 10 mg.

    Notes: Abstract The influence of the growth parameters on the concentration gradient of Pb1−xSnxTe monocrystals grown by the vertical Bridgman technique is described. The concentration profiles of all three constituents (Pb, Sn, Te) have been analysed in ingots having different Pb-Sn ratios and grown under different conditions. The presumed role played by free convection in the Pb-Sn ratio is shown. Te was found to be constant in all ingots and not dependent upon the growth conditions.

    Notes: Abstract A procedure of optimization of Si-implanted thermistors was started, with the final aim to develop bolometers with a resolution of a few eV in the keV range. The initial approach was to assume that a thermal decoupling between phonons and hopping electrons establishes inside the thermistors, with consequent reduction of the sensitivity and incomplete transfer of the particle generated phonons to the conduction electrons. This assumption however failed in explaining the collected experimental data, which can be described much more satisfactorily introducing an electric field dependance of the thermistor resistance. This alternative interpretation modifies the parameter choice for an optimum device

    Notes: Abstract A 334g TeO2 crystal is operating since January '93 at Gran Sasso National Laboratories as a thermal detector to search for neutrinoless ββ decay of130Te. The reduction of environmental radioactivity is accomplished by means of a 10 cm thick external lead shielding and a plexiglas box against222Rn, while an inner ultra-low activity lead shield of at least 3.5 cm in every direction suppresses the residual local radioactivity near the crystal. The good energy resolution and the peak-to-Compton efficiency of the detector allow to understand the main features of the residual background. In particular, we are able to reach a sensitivity in the internal contamination of238U and232Th of the crystal of the order of 10−13 g/g, better than that of modern mass spectroscopy methods. Pulse acquisition and analysis techniques are reported and discussed. Present limit on neutrinoless ββ decay half-life time of130Te obtained with this detector is of the order of 1022y at 68% C.L., exceeding by one order of magnitude the value quoted by the inclusive geochemical measurements, which have therefore to be attributed mainly to the 2-neutrino channel.
