    Notizen: Optical absorption, Raman, and infrared (IR) spectra of undoped polyparaphenylene (PPP) have been studied under pressure up to 20 GPa at 300 K. PPP shows stable behavior, in marked contrast to the reactivity observed in trans-polyacetylene under pressure. The absorption edge of PPP shifts to lower energy with a total shift of 0.55 eV at 20 GPa. Raman spectra reveal a new band at about 820 cm−1 which becomes active above ∼5 GPa. At high pressure we find a considerable broadening of the infrared-active out-of-plane mode at 805 cm−1. The results are in part interpreted in terms of the larger interchain coupling induced by pressure.

    Notizen: Abstract X-ray induced photoelectron spectroscopy, bremsstrahlung-isochromat spectroscopy, and electron energy-loss spectroscopy were used to investigate the electronic structure of the high-temperature superconductor La2−x Sr x CuO4. In general, good agreement was obtained with band structure calculations of the tetragonal phase of La2CuO4. Near the Fermi energyE F the systems shows forx=0 a smeared out gap or a region of very low density of states ∼2eV wide. Upon replacement of La by Sr, the gap is filled with defect states, the intensity of which is proportional tox. The experimental data are not consistent with the closing of a Peierls gap alone.

    Notizen: Abstract Sucrose-density-gradient centrifugation and partitioning in a polyethylene glycol/dextran two-phase system were used to isolate plasmamembrane vesicles from microsomal preparations of soybean cell suspension cultures. Both methods resulted in the enrichment of the activity of a 1,3-β-glucan synthase which forms a polymer consisting of more than 99% of 1,3-linked glucose (callose). Digitonin increases the 1,3-β-glucan synthase activity in the various membrane fractions to a different degree, supporting the suggestion that this enzyme is vectorially arranged in the plasma membrane. The enzyme is greatly activated either by poly-l-ornithine or synergistically by Ca2+ and spermine, indicating that the same enzyme is affected and exhibits the regulatory properties necessary for callose synthesis.

    Beschreibung / Inhaltsverzeichnis: Summary For the assay of zinc bacitracine in premixtures and formulated feeding-stuffs, an analytical method including gel filtration and electrophoresis is described. The application of the assay to trade samples proved high recovery rates (99.4%; total error 9.6%). At the same time it was demonstrated that an extension of the extraction time cannot improve the detectability (∼5 ppm). Influences of feed ingredients and technical procedures are diminished by prior microfiltration. However, the comparatively long duration of the analysis (48–72 h) must be regarded as disadvantageous.
    Notizen: Zusammenfassung Zur Bestimmung von Zink-Bacitracin in Futtermitteln und deren Vormischungen wurde ein Verfahren ausgearbeitet, das auf Gelfiltration und Elektrophorese beruht. Bei der Anwendung auf Handelsproben ergaben sich Wiederfindungsraten von 99,4% bei einem Gesamtfehler von 9,6%. Die Nachweisbarkeit (∼5 ppm) kann durch verlängerte Extraktionszeit nicht verbessert werden. Der Einfluß anderer Bestandteile und der technischen Prozesse wird durch Mikrofiltration verringert. Die relativ lange Analysendauer (48–72 h) ist allerdings von Nachteil.
