    Notizen: Summary The development of the technique of laser printing opens new ways for the writing of concordances to Latin texts, by means of electronic data processing. It is indeed possible to obtain as good a quality of printing as with traditional typography, even for a very important number of characters, which is always the case with concordances. A first step to obtaining perfection in the format of the final document consists in collecting data carefully and programming the software so as to provide scholars with a tool that will really facilitate their researches. Although the cutting out of the “useful context” is a very difficult problem to solve when using computers, as many data (punctuation, capital letters, diacritic signs...) as possible can be collected from the very beginning. These data will then make the text provided for each keyword more comprehensible. The programming must obviously be improved to take all the collected data into account. The reader of a concordance produced in such a way will have at his disposal a text easy to read not only because of its typographic quality, but also because of all its information on reference, punctuation, lemma, manuscript tradition; also he will be able to find in appendices pertinent frequency lists, lists of names and all sorts of lexical, morphological, syntactical information according to the work involved in the data collecting and programming.

    Notizen: Abstract To understand connections between electronic transitions of dyes having related conjugated systems, topological arguments from graph theory are often helpful. Using the Chebyshev expansion of the characteristic polynomials of cyanines, it is shown that the two possible structures of tribranched cyanines, i.e., a strongly out-of-plane orientation of one of the conjugated branches or a Y-conjugation of the entire unsaturated system, are both consistent with the similarities between visible absorption of these compounds and of simple chains. To choose between these two structures, evidence from other sources should be added.

    Notizen: Abstract In this paper, various methods based on convex approximation schemes are discussed, that have demonstrated strong potential for efficient solution of structural optimization problems. First, theconvex linearization method (CONLIN) is briefly described, as well as one of its recent generalizations, themethod of moving asymptotes (MMA). Both CONLIN and MMA can be interpreted as first order convex approximation methods, that attempt to estimate the curvature of the problem functions on the basis of semi-empirical rules. Attention is next directed toward methods that use diagonal second derivatives in order to provide a sound basis for building up high quality explicit approximations of the behaviour constraints. In particular, it is shown how second order information can be effectively used without demanding a prohibitive computational cost. Various first and second order approaches are compared by applying them to simple problems that have a closed form solution.

    Notizen: Abstract The Convex Linearization method (CONLIN) exhibits many interesting features and it is applicable to a broad class of structural optimization problems. The method employs mixed design variables (either direct or reciprocal) in order to get first order, conservative approximations to the objective function and to the constraints. The primary optimization problem is therefore replaced with a sequence of explicit approximate problems having a simple algebraic structure. The explicit subproblems are convex and separable, and they can be solved efficiently by using a dual method approach. In this paper, a special purpose dual optimizer is proposed to solve the explicit subproblem generated by the CONLIN strategy. The maximum of the dual function is sought in a sequence of dual subspaces of variable dimensionality. The primary dual problem is itself replaced with a sequence of approximate quadratic subproblems with non-negativity constraints on the dual variables. Because each quadratic subproblem is restricted to the current subspace of non zero dual variables, its dimensionality is usually reasonably small. Clearly, the Hessian matrix does not need to be inverted (it can in fact be singular), and no line search process is necessary. An important advantage of the proposed maximization method lies in the fact that most of the computational effort in the iterative process is performed with reduced sets of primal variables and dual variables. Furthermore, an appropriate active set strategy has been devised, that yields a highly reliable dual optimizer.

    Notizen: Abstract The thirteen above-listed isotopes have been produced at GANIL by fragmentation of a40Ar beam at 60 MeV/nucleon. The LISE spectrometer allowed us to isotopiaally separate these nuclei. Beta delayed gamma spectroscopy was carried out for the first time for eleven isotopes and additional information was obtained for another two.

    Notizen: Abstract The beta-gamma spectroscopic study of22O is presented. This nucleus, produced as a projectile-like fragment from the interaction of a 60 MeV/n40Ar beam with a Be target, has been separated by the LISE spectrometer. Several gamma rays from22O decay have been observed, from which a half-life of (2.25±0.15)s has been determined. Accurate excitation energies have been deduced for several states in22F. A partial beta decay scheme of22O has been established. Experimental results have been compared with shell model calculations.

    Notizen: Abstract In this paper a convenient geometrical representation for shape optimal design is first briefly recalled, as well as the corresponding sensitivity analysis formulation (stress and displacement derivatives). Two-dimensional structures are decomposed into a few design elements described by Bezier or B-splines blending functions. Next, the choice of the optimization algorithm is discussed. It is shown that well-known and efficient methods of structural sizing can be advantageously extended to shape optimal design problems. Experiments are performed with different approximation schemes and a new general optimization algorithm is introduced, which combines mixed approximations and dual methods. Three examples are also treated to demonstrate the generality and the efficiency of the new formulation.
