Abstract Three parallel, non-planar lines ξ, η, and ζ are given in ordinary 3-space, and distinct points X 1, X 2, ..., X x are given on ξ, Y 1, Y 2, ..., Y y on η, and Z 1, Z 2, ..., Z z on ζ. Into at most how many cells do the xyz triangular plane segments X i Y j Z k divide the interior of the triangular prism determined by the lines ξ, η, and ζ? We employ an ingenious method due to Alfred Brousseau to solve this problem of classical combinatorial geometry.
