Description: Most of the rotating or noting patterns are being developed by using silver plating through chemical coating. Silver layers deteriorate with the passage of time and become less reflective while undergo through cleaning process due to its softness and the results become unpredictable. In this paper an alternate method for development of above mentioned pattern has been demonstrated. Chromium (Cr) and Silver (Ag) thin films of 200nm and 160nm thick respectively have been realized using electron beam evaporation (PVD technique) on quartz substrate. Structural analysis has been carried out by XRD and SEM while optical transmission/reflection has been studied using spectrophotometer. XRD analysis shows that Ag coated thin films exhibit FCC structure while Cr coated thin films reveals a BCC structure. SEM analysis shows almost smooth and uniform surfaces in both cases. After passing through high and low temperature cycles it was found that the results of pattern structures developed b...

Description: Flexible eyepiece telescope has been designed and verified. The rotating eyepiece of telescope will facilitate viewing of objects in a remote or out of sight target. Eyepiece arm of telescope can be rotated upto 360 o keeping objective and reticule unchanged and ensuring zero deviation in reticule inclination. Main application of this scope is off axis viewing of objects. Image inversion has been carried out by using pair of mirrors and length of telescope is controlled by using relay lenses. The optical design, simulation and image analysis has been carried out by using ZEMAX®. Magnification of telescope is between 10∼⃒12 times with FOV of 6 0 . Experiment has been carried out using uncoated Edmund Optics and optical tool box of Micro Series Kit, NEWPORT.

Description: Hydrogen production by using a three reactor chemical looping reforming (TRCLR) technology is an innovative and attractive process. Fossil fuels such as methane are the feedstocks used. This process is similar to a conventional steam-methane reforming but occurs in three steps utilizing an oxygen carrier. As the oxygen carrier plays an important role, its selection should be done carefully. In this study, two oxygen carrier materials of base metal iron (Fe) and tungsten (W) are analysed using a thermodynamic model of a three reactor chemical looping reforming plant in Aspen plus. The results indicate that iron oxide has moderate oxygen carrying capacity and is cheaper since it is abundantly available. In terms of hydrogen production efficiency, tungsten oxide gives 4% better efficiency than iron oxide. While in terms of electrical power efficiency, iron oxide gives 4.6% better results than tungsten oxide. Overall, a TRCLR system with iron oxide is 2.6% more efficient and is cost...

Description: New technique eases aspheric lens fabrication and overcome traditional limitation. An aspheric lens has been designed by using optical designing software to replace the achromat (Doublet) lens of eyepiece assembly of telescope. The devised physical parameters of aspheric lens have been incorporated into the CNC Aspheric machine to fabricate the lens. The antireflection coating for visible region has been carried out on lens by employing PVD technique. In this report diminished aberration effects due to non-spherical surface profile and comparison of optical parameters of achromat (doublet) and aspheric lens is presented.

Description: The design of multilayer stack of dielectric films for narrow band mirror is developed using thin film coating software. The proposed design is materialized by employing thin film coating (PVD) method and reflectance in narrow band spectrum range is achieved. Thickness of high and low refractive index material is taken precisely up to nanometer level. The curved coated substrate is cemented with another K9 matching substrate that forms a Mangin mirror for wavelength 650nm. Narrow band mirrors with reflectivity more than 90% has been produced by properly stacking of 21 layers and advantage of the use of this type of mirror as an interference filter is discussed.

Description: Algal biomass emerged as a potential source of bioenergy and valuable derivatives in recent years. The major characteristics of microalgae such as high oil contents, carbon sequestration, high growth rate and valuable by-products are leading factors to compete with traditional resources. The aim of current study was (i) to extract and optimize chlorophylls (a and b) at temperature (30-40°C) and time (60-120 min) by ultrasonication assisted with methanol: hexane (2:1v/v) (ii) to find suitable dilution factor for chlorophyll analysis by UV spectroscopy considering 1:10, 1:15,1:20 ml/ml and (iii) to determine suitability of dissolving methanol/hexane extract in different solvents for analysis and quantification by simultaneous equations. The full factorial design RSM was employed and found that model is well fitted (0.99 R 2 ). Maximum recovery of total chlorophylls (a and b) was 17.15 μg/ml achieved at 30 °C and 120 min. The absorbance spectra peaks were found good with a...

Description: The objective of this study is to investigate the brittle cracking behavior of Plexiglas material when subjected to indentation loading. Indentation tests were conducted on Modified Vickers testing machine to acquire the experimental data in the form of load-displacement curve. Several mechanical properties such as hardness, yielding stress and fracture toughness have been ascertained from the analysis of the experimental data. The experimental data then used to create a mathematical model of Plexiglas for its brittle cracking behavior with indentation loading. Furthermore, a numerical simulation based study was carried out to simulate the brittle cracking in Plexiglas plate when subjected to indentation loading. The simulations were performed in the FE solver Abaqus. The brittle cracking model in Abaqus/Explicit is used which determines the required force and displacement to produce crack in Plexiglas. Finally a comparison of simulation results was made to the experimental data...

Description: The ways for improving heat supply energy efficiency in small and medium settlements of Eastern Siberia are considered by the example of Irkutsk oblast. When choosing the energy saving measures, one must take into account a complex system of factors. The dynamics of particular settlements development can also be considered which makes the choice significantly differ from the traditional one.
