Notes: Abstract The standard enthalpy of formation of UCl5 has been determined as ΔH f ,298/0 UCl5 (s)=−247.7±0.5 kcal/mol (−1036.4±2.1 kJ/mol) by reacting uranium with chlorine gas in the presence of excess liquid chlorine at 298° K.

Notes: Abstract Experiments were conducted to determine the influence of nicotine (at a range of concentrations) in the food of an herbivorous host on the development, size and survival of its parasitoid. Fall armyworms, Spodoptera frugiperda (Smith) (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae) were reared on diets of 0, 0.025, 0.050 and 0.075% nicotine and exposed to parasitism by Hyposoter annulipes (Hymenoptera: Ichneumonidae). As nicotine concentration increased parasitoid mortality and development time increased and adult weight decreased. Development time, pupal weight and survival were recorded for unparasitized armyworms. Unparasitized fall armyworms showed lengthened development and higher mortality but pupal weights were greatest at intermediate nicotine concentrations.

Notes: Summary ¶On August the 11th, 1999 Central Europe saw a spectacular astronomical event, a total solar eclipse. We present a model study concerning the meteorological effects of this eclipse in central Europe using the state-of-the-art limited area forecast model Deutschland-Modell DM from the German Weather Service DWD. Under typical summer radiation conditions very strong anomalies in the surface energy flux and temperature in screen height are simulated. The main temperature signal in the lower troposphere is delayed by about one hour with respect to the surface. Furthermore it is connected with a well defined dynamical signal which is reminiscent to a large scale land – sea circulation. The event could be used as a test case for mesoscale atmospheric models.

Notes: Conclusion Dr. Bobrow's paper is a contribution to a body of literature distinguished by its paucity. As a contribution to current attempts to resurrect, rediscover, or spawn a new body of knowledge called the policy sciences, it is a useful foundation that should be built on through intensive, rigorous research into the likely role of the computer in improving the public policymaking processes. The paper raises indirectly a number of questions that could be researched profitably. These questions relate to: (1) the future effect of the computer on administrative responsibility, accountability, and responsiveness, assuming systems such as proposed by Bobrow are desirable and/or feasible. (2) the effect of the computer in improving the information at present available in different policymaking areas at different levels of government. (3) the relevance of contemporary computer education for policymakers in university programs aimed at training the new breed of policy analyst. (4) the cost-effectiveness of different variations on the theme proposed by Bobrow, including the viability of interactive versus noninteractive (or off-line) computer systems. The ball seems to be at the feet of the public policymaker and the educator to expand on Bobrow's theme.
