Notizen: A method of measuring the Yong's modulus, Poisson ratio, and coefficient of thermal expansion (CTE) is presented. The method uses a wafer curvature technique to measure thermal stresses of thin films of the same material deposited on two different substrates, one isotropic and the other thermomechanically anisotropic. By analyzing the thermal stress data as a function of temperature, the Young's modulus, Poisson ratio and CTE can be simultaneously determined. The method is demonstrated for Al (0.5 wt % Cu) and Cu thin films by performing measurements on (100) Si wafers and Y-cut single-crystal quartz wafers. The CTE, Young's modulus, and Poisson ratio are found to be 24.3 ppm/°C, 58.9 GPa, and 0.342, respectively, for Al (Cu) thin film, and 17.7 ppm/°C, 104.2 GPa, and 0.352, respectively, for Cu thin film. They are in good agreement with those measured by other methods. This method is generally applicable to other on-wafer films with in-plane isotropy. © 2000 American Institute of Physics.

Notizen: A bending beam technique has been developed for on-wafer characterization of thermomechanical properties of dielectric thin films including Young's modulus (E), the coefficient of thermal expansion (CTE), and the Poisson ratio (ν). The biaxial modulus E/(1−ν) and CTE were determined by measuring the thermal stresses of the dielectric film as a function of temperature on two different substrates. The Poisson ratio and Young's modulus were determined by measuring the temperature dependence of the thermal stress of periodic line structures of the dielectric film. Three dielectric thin films were selected for this study, consisting of silica made from tetraethylorthosilane (TEOS), hydrogen silsesquioxane (HSQ), and biphenyltetracarboxylic dianhydride-p-phenylene diamine (BPDA-PDA). The deduced biaxial modulus and CTE are 77 GPa and 1.0 ppm/°C for TEOS, 7.07 GPa and 20.5 ppm/°C for HSQ, and 11.1 GPa and 3.4 ppm/°C for BPDA-PDA. The Poisson ratio is determined to be 0.24 and Young's modulus is 59 GPa for the TEOS film. The error limit and the valid range of E/(1−ν) and CTE for applying this technique are also discussed. © 2000 American Institute of Physics.

Notizen: A bending beam method has been developed to measure the elastic modulus E, the coefficient of thermal expansion (CTE) and the Poisson ratio ν for on-wafer dielectric films with thicknesses in the submicron range. The method was demonstrated for 0.5 μm thick silicon dioxide films made from tetraethylorthosilane (TEOS). First, the biaxial elastic modulus E/(1-ν) and CTE were measured on blanket TEOS on Si and GaAs substrates and found to be 77 GPa and 1.0 ppm/°C, respectively. The Poisson ratio ν was determined by combining the finite element calculation and the experimental result of the thermal stresses of TEOS fine lines on the Si substrate. The Poisson ratio of TEOS was determined to be 0.24 and, as a consequence, the Young's modulus was 59 GPa. Fourier transform infrared spectra were obtained for TEOS films on the Si and GaAs substrates to ensure that the chemical structure of the film is independent of the substrate. © 1999 American Institute of Physics.

Notizen: The effect of strain on F+ and Si+ implantation-induced compositional disordering in InGaAsP strained layer multiple-quantum-well (MQW) heterostructures has been studied by investigating the temperature dependence of the photoluminescence (PL) spectra and spatial distribution of degree of polarization of PL for both compressive and tensile strained, and unstrained MQW heterostructures. It was found that under similar implantation and anneal conditions a spectral blueshift occurs which is largest in the compressively strained structure and the smallest in the tensile one. This behavior is explained in terms of implantation-enhanced interdiffusion, by taking into account the composition differences of elements between the wells and barriers. The development of strain related to the process of interdiffusion has been experimentally observed.

Notizen: This letter describes measurement of the biaxial modulus, coefficient of thermal expansion (CTE), and moisture uptake characteristics of hydrogen silsesquioxane (HSQ) thin films. The biaxial modulus and CTE were determined using a bending beam method, and moisture uptake was studied using a quartz crystal microbalance method. The biaxial modulus and CTE of a 0.5 μm HSQ film were measured on Si and Ge substrates and found to be 7.07 GPa and 20.5 ppm/°C, respectively. The value determined for the diffusion constant of water in a 0.7-μm-thick HSQ films is 3.61×10−10 cm2/s at room temperature. © 1999 American Institute of Physics.

Notizen: The thermal stress of thin and ultrathin polystyrene (PS) films on Si substrate has been studied and the glass transition temperature (Tg) is determined from the thermal stress data. Tg of PS turned out to be thickness independent for thick films but decreases when the film thickness is comparable to the end-to-end distance of the polymer chains (〈100 nm). The thermal stress level and the slope of the stress temperature curve of the film also decrease as the film thickness decreases. The slope reduction indicates that the product of the biaxial modulus E/(1−ν) and the coefficient of thermal expansion (CTE) of the film decreases with film thickness. Assuming that the CTE increases for ultrathin films, the modulus is found to decrease significantly with respect to the bulk value. © 2000 American Institute of Physics.

Beschreibung: Abstract Aerosol pH is a useful diagnostic of aerosol chemistry for formation of secondary aerosol and has been hypothesized to be a key factor in specific chemical reaction routes producing sulfate and nitrate (Yue et al., 2009; Zhang et al., 2012; Hu et al., 2014). In this study, we measured hourly concentrations of water soluble ions (WS‐ions) in PM2.5, along with gaseous pollutants in Tianjin, China, from 4th January to 31st January 2015. The following source contributions to WS ions were estimated by PMF (Positive Matrix Factorization): secondary sulfate (13%), secondary nitrate (44%), coal (14%), vehicle (16%), and dust (13%). ISORROPIA‐II was used to investigate the complex relationships among aerosol pH, ammonia, and secondary aerosol formation. The estimated hourly aerosol pH varied from ‐0.3 to 7.7, with an average of 4.9 (±0.78); the median value was 4.89, and the interquartile range (IQR) was 0.72. During less polluted conditions, aerosol pH ranged from less than 0 to about 7; during heavily polluted conditions, pH was close to 5 (3.9‐7.9) despite large amounts of sulfate. Sufficient ammonia/ammonium were present to balance high sulfate and nitrate formation. NH4+/NH3 (g) helped stabilize pH while nonvolatile cations contributed less to decreasing aerosol acidity. High acidy (pH〈3), light pollution (Total water soluble ions (TWI)〈30 μg m‐3), and low water content (less than 5μg m‐3) were more correlated with higher rates of sulfate formation than nitrate formation in the winter.

Beschreibung: Spatial heterogeneity of soil has great impacts on dynamic processes of the hydrological systems. However, it is challenging and expensive to obtain spatial distribution of soil hydraulic properties, which often requires extensive soil sampling and observations and intensive laboratory analyses, especially in high elevation, hard to access mountainous areas. This study evaluates the impacts of soil heterogeneity on hydrological process in a high elevation, topographically complex watershed in Northwest China. Two approaches were used to derive the spatial heterogeneity of soil properties in the study watershed: 1) The spatial clustering method, Full-Order-CLK was used to determine five soil heterogeneous clusters (Configurations 97, 80, 65, 40, and 20) through large number of soil sampling and in situ observations; and 2) The average values of soil hydraulic properties for each soil type were derived from the coarse provincial soil datasets (Gansu Soil Handbook at 1:1, 000, 000 scale). Subsequently, SWAT model was used to quantify the impact of the spatial heterogeneity of soil hydraulic properties on hydrological process in the study watershed. Results show the simulations by SWAT with the spatially clustered soil hydraulic information from the field sampling data had much better representation of the soil heterogeneity and more accurate performance than the model using the average soil property values for each soil type derived from the coarse soil datasets. Thus, incorporating detailed field sampling soil heterogeneity data greatly improves performance in hydrological modeling. This article is protected by copyright. All rights reserved.

Beschreibung: A chiral helical coordination polymer [Ag(pmta)] n ( 1 ) was prepared by the reaction of the asymmetric organic spacer 2-pyrimidylthioacetic acid (Hpmta) with silver(I) acetate. Complex 1 has a hetero-chiral coaxial helical structure, which is further extended into a 2D network structure by various supramolecular interactions. Furthermore, complex 1 exhibits strong fluorescence emission in the solid state and modest power second-harmonic-generation (SHG) efficiency at room temperature.

Beschreibung: ABSTRACT Bombyx mori is an important economic animal for silk production. However, it is liable to be infected by organophosphorus pesticide that can contaminate its food and growing environment. It has been known that organophosphorus pesticide including phoxim exposure may damage the digestive systems, produce oxidative stress and neurotoxicity in silkworm B. mori , whereas cerium treatment has been demonstrated to relieve phoxim-induced toxicity in B. mori . However, very little is known about the molecular mechanisms of midgut injury due to phoxim exposure and B. mori protection after cerium pretreatment. The aim of this study was to evaluate the midgut damage and its molecular mechanisms, and the protective role of cerium in B. mori following exposure to phoxim. The results showed that phoxim exposure led to severe midgut damages and oxidative stress; whereas cerium relieved midgut damage and oxidative stress caused by phoxim in B. mori . Furthermore, digital gene expression suggested that phoxim exposure led to significant up-regulation of 94 genes and down-regulation of 52 genes. Of these genes, 52 genes were related with digestion and absorption, specifically, the significant alterations of esterase, lysozyme, amylase 48, and lipase expressions. Cerium pretreatment resulted in up-regulation of 116 genes, and down-regulation of 29 genes, importantly, esterase 48, lipase, lysozyme, and α-amylase were up-regulated. Treatment with Phoxim + CeCl 3 resulted in 66 genes up-regulation and 39 genes down-regulation; specifically, levels of esterase 48 , lipase , lysozyme , and α- amylase expression in the midgut of silkworms were significantly increased. Therefore, esterase 48 , lipase , lysozyme , and α- amylase may be potential biomarkers of midgut toxicity caused by phoxim exposure. These findings may expand the application of rare earths in sericulture. © 2013 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Environ Toxicol, 2013.
