    Notizen: Structures consisting of alternate layers of Mo/Ti and W/Ti have been sputter deposited on Si(100) substrates and their annealing behavior has been studied using Auger sputter profiling. The anneals were performed under typical processing conditions. Two major driving forces control the observed reactions: the silicidation of the metals and the oxidation of Ti. The prevalence of one of them depends both on the structure of the as-deposited film and on the annealing temperature. In the case where silicidation prevails a multisilicide layer is formed, with no alteration with respect to the initial disposition order of the metal films. Intermixing between the reacted layers starts to be observed at 900 °C. The behavior of common contaminants such as oxygen and carbon has been studied.

    Notizen: Annealed Au contacts to p-type Hg1−xCdxTe with thin interfacial oxide layers exhibit ohmic behavior. These interfacial layers have been produced by plasma oxidizing the Hg1−xCdxTe surface prior to Au evaporation or as a result of electroless Au deposition from AuCl3 which also produces an interfacial layer. We believe this ohmic behavior is primarily a result of the low interface state density at the interfacial layer/Hg1−xCdxTe interface and in addition, a 100 °C anneal promotes a further reduction in the interface state density and thus lowered the contact resistance. In comparison, as-deposited and annealed Au contacts without a thin interfacial layer were rectifying with a large barrier height.

    Notizen: Be and Al refractive lenses with long focal lengths provide a simple and efficient method of collimating synchrotron radiation. The divergence of an undulator beam at SPring-8 is reduced from 〉11 µrad full width at half maximum without the collimators to 〈3 µrad downstream of the collimators. The Be collimators have almost no losses (∼90% transmission) while the Al collimators reduce the flux by a factor of two (∼45% transmission). Data are shown at 14.4 and 18.5 keV.

    Beschreibung: This paper investigates the magnetic properties of Ho 1- x Dy x MnO 3 by considering the inter-planar Mn 3+ -O-O-Mn 3+ interaction. The theoretical analysis shows that the asymmetric in-plane exchange interaction couples the in-plane and inter-planar Mn 3+ spin structures via asymmetry parameter δ. This leads to the existence of both the in-plane and inter-planar ordering, which in turn restricted the allowed magnetic space groups to Γ 1 and Γ 4 . The experimental studies confirmed the concomitant nature of the in-plane and the inter-planar ordering at T N , T SR , and T 2 . It also showed that the magnetic phase diagram is dominated by the allowed magnetic structures Γ 1 and Γ 4 . Furthermore, an effort is made to resolve the inconsistency regarding the T SR (32 or 40 K). The studies revealed that the antiferromagnetic inter-planar interaction is switched to the ferromagnetic interaction (40 K) upon cooling, which in turn drives the spin reorientation at 32 K. The Mn 3+ spin structure is seen to be coupled to rare earth sub-lattice through the modulation of the inter-planar interaction.
