New Syntheses of α-Branched β-Ketocarboxylic AcidsThe reaction between acyl chlorides 1 and (1-alkoxycarbonylalkylidene)triphenylphosphoranes 2 in a molar ratio of 1:1 gives rise to the formation of phosphonium chlorides 3. The electrolysis of these phosphonium salts leads to the formation of triphenylphosphine and α-branched β-ketocarboxylic acid esters 6. The reaction between 1 and 2 in a molar ratio of 1:2 produces allenic carboxylic acid esters 8, which react with piperidine (9) to form enamines 10. Acidic hydrolysis of the latter compounds also yields the β-ketoesters 6.
    Notes: Säurechloride 1 und [1-Alkoxycarbonyl-alkyliden]-triphenylphosphorane 2 reagieren im Molverhältnis 1:1 zu Phosphoniumsalzen 3, deren Elektrolyse neben Triphenylphosphin α-verzweigte β-Keto-carbonsäureester 6 ergibt. Setzt man die aus 1 und 2 im Molverhältnis 1:2 entstehenden 8 mit Piperidin (9) um, so erhält man Enamine 10, bei deren saurer Hydrolyse ebenfalls die Verbindungen 6 entstehen.

Synthesis of cis-Tetradec-9-enyl AcetateThe Wittig-reaction between 9-acetoxynonanal (2) and triphenyl(pentylidene)phosphorane (1) in salt-free solution leads to the formation of cis-tetradec-9-enyl acetate (3). 2 was obtained in two steps starting from oleic alcohol or in eight steps starting from nonanedioic acid. The synthetic pheromone 3 shows strong activity in the electrophysiological test in the case of various species of Noctuidae (Lepidoptera).
    Notes: Die Wittig-Reaktion zwischen 9-Acetoxy-nonanal (2) und einer salzfreien Lösung von Triphenyl-pentyliden-phosphoran (1) führt zum Essigsäure-[cis-tetradecen-(9)-yl-ester] (3). 2 erhält man ausgehend von Oleinalkohol in 2 Stufen oder ausgehend von Azelainsäure in 8 Stufen. Das synthetische Pheromon 3 erwies sich im elektrophysiologischen Test bei verschiedenen Noctuiden-Arten der Ordnung Lepidoptera als hoch wirksam.

Synthesis and Absolute Configuration of (+)-3H-Cyclohepta[2,1-a:3,4-a′]dinaphthalene1 mole of 2,2′-bis(brommethyl)-1,1′-binaphthyl(3)reacts with 2 moles of methylenetriphenylphosphorane (4) to form methyltriphenylphosphonium bromide (6) and the cyclic phosphonium bromide 5. Hofmann degradation of 5 with sodium methoxide leads to 3 H-cyclohepta-[2,1-a:3,4-a]dinaphthalene (7).Starting from (-)-(S)-3 one gets (+)-7whose P(orS)-configuration follows unequivocally from the synthetic route.
    Notes: Aus 1 mol 2,2′-Bis(brommethyl)-1,1′-binaphthyl (3) und 2 mol Methylentriphenylphosphoran (4) bildet sich neben Methyltriphenylphosphoniumbromid (6) das cyclische Phosphoniumsalz 5, das bei Einwirkung von Natriumäthylat einem Hofmann-Abbau unterliegt und in das 3 H-Cyclohepta[2,1-a:3,4-a′]dinaphthalin (7) übergeht. Aus (-)-(S)-3 erhält man (+)-7, dem aufgrund seines Darstellungsweges die P(bzw. S)-Konfiguration zuzuordnen ist.

    Description / Table of Contents: The Crystal and Molecular Structure of (2,2-Diethoxyvinylidene)triphenylphosphorane(2.2-Diethoxyvinylidene)triphenylphosphorane crystallizes in the space group P21/c with four molecules in a unit cell of dimensions a0 = 13.552 Å, b0 = 9.588 Å, c0 = 17.235 Å, β = 112.5Å. The crystal structure was solved by direct methods and refined by least-squares procedures to an R value of 0.079. Each phenyl group is rotated in the same sense round the P—C bond to give the „paddle wheel“ arrangement. The diethoxyvinylidene group does not deviate significantly from planarity and adopts a staggered position. The cumulene chain is remarkably bent (125.6°), the P—Cα distance is longer than the sum of the covalent radii of doubly bonded phosphorus and carbon atom.
    Notes: (2,2-Diäthoxyvinyliden)triphenylphosphoran (1) kristallisiert in der Raumgruppe P21/c mit den Gitterkonstanten a0 = 13.552 Å, b0 = 9.588 Å, c0 = 17.235 Å, β = 112.5Å und vier Molekülen in der Elementarzelle. Die Struktur wurde mit direkten Methoden aufgeklärt und bis zu einem R-Wert von 7.9% verfeinert. Auf Lücke angeordnet zu den propellerartig verdrehten Phenylringen am Phosphor liegt die nahezu planare Diäthoxyvinyliden-Gruppierung. Die Kumulenkette ist stark gewinkelt (125.6°), der Abstand zwischen Phosphor- und α-Kohlenstoffatom ist größer als die Summe kovalenter Radien von doppelt gebundenem Phosphor und Kohlenstoff.

Synthesis of (2,2-Diethoxyvinylidene)triphenylphosphorane and its Reaction with Fluorenone(Ethoxycarbonylmethylene)triphenylphosphorane (3) reacts with triethyloxonium tetra-fluoroborate by O-alkylation to give (2,2-diethoxyvinyl)trlphenylphosphonium tetrafluoro-borate (6), which under appropriate conditions can act as an alkylating agent. Treatment of 6 with sodium amide yields (2,2-diethoxyvmylidene)triphenylphosphorane (9), which with fluorenone affords the immediately dimerizing fluorenylideneketene acetal 13. Degradation experiments show that the dimer has the structure 14.
    Notes: Die Umsetzung des (Äthoxycarbonylmethylen)triphenylphosphorans (3) mit Triäthyl-oxoniurn-tetrafluoroborat ergibt durch O-Alkylierung das (2,2-Diäthoxyvinyl)triphenyl-phosphonium-tetrafluoroborat (6), das unter geeigneten Bedingungen als Alkylierungsmittel reagieren kann. Durch Einwirkung von Natriumamid auf 6 erhält man das (2,2-Diäthoxy-vinyliden)triphenylphosphoran (9), das mit Fluorenon zum sofort dimerisierenden Fluoren-ylidenketenacetal 13 reagiert. Dem Dimeren konnte aufgrund von Abbaureaktionen die Struktur 14 zugeordnet werden.

    Notes: Die Reaktionen von (+)-(R)-Benzyliden(methyl)phenyl(propyl)phorphoran (2) mit 4-Oxocyclohexancarbonsäure-äthylester führt zum (+)-4-Benzylidencyclohexancarbonsäure-äthylester [(+)-5]. Die Konfiguration von (+)-5 konnte durch Korrelieren mit (+)-(S)-(4-Methyl-cyclohexyliden)methylbenzol [(+)-9)] bestimmt werden.

Reaction of (cyanomethylene)triphenylphosphorane (3a) with ethyl bromoacetate leads to transylidation with formation of an ylide 14, which decomposes on thermolysis into methyl 3-cyanoacrylate (16) and triphenylphosphine. Compounds 3 undergo a Witttig reaction with aldehydes to form α-β-unsaturated nitriles.
    Notes: Die Alkylidentriphenylphosphorane 1 setzen sich mit 4-Methylphenylcyanat (2) zu den 1-Cyanyliden 3 um, die durch Alkylierungsreagentien sowohl am Ylid-C-Atom als auch am N-Atom alkyliert werden können. (Cyanmethylen)triphenylphosphoran (3a) reagiert mit Bromessigsäure-methylester unter Umylidierung zum Ylid 14, da bei der Thermolyse in 3-Cyanacrylsäure-methylester (16) und Triphenylphosphin zerfällt. Die Verbindungen 3 gehen mit Aldehyden Wittig-Reaktionen zu α-β-ungesättigten Nitrilen ein.
