    Beschreibung / Inhaltsverzeichnis: Polymers of low molecular weight with allylic hydroxy groups at the chain ends were prepared. Isomolecular α,ω-dicarbanionic polydienes were synthesized by using naphthalene-lithium as initiator and oxygen as desactivating agent. In order to examine the obtained structures, they were compared with the corresponding dimers. The direct oxydation of carbanionic ends permitted to obtain with a high yield α-hydroxy-ω-hydroxy-polydienes with allylic hydroxy groups.
    Notizen: Des polymères de bas poids moléculaire possédant des fonctions alcools allyliques aux extrémités des chaǐnes ont été synthétisés. Pour cela, nous avons préparé des polydiènes α,ω-dicarbanioniques en utilisant le naphthalène-lithium comme amorceur, et en effectuant la réaction de terminaison par addition d'oxygène. Afin de vérifier les structures obtenues, nous avons identifiées les dimères alcadiéniques correspondants. Par oxydation directe des extrémités carbanioniques, nous avons obtenu avec un bon rendement des polyalcadiènes α,ω-diols à hydroxyles allyliques.

    Notizen: Twenty-five organoboron compounds were evaluated for their ability to impart flame retardancy properties to a cotton twill fabric. Only those organoboron compounds in which the carbon-to-boron atom ratio was 4 or less imparted flame retardancy at an approximate 20% add-on level; if a halogen atom was also present in the molecule this ratio could be higher than 4. Washfast finishes with six different compounds were developed by either γ-radiation grafting of a vinyl organoboron compound or by chemical curing with hexamethylenediisocyanate, trimethylolmelamine or urea-formaldehyde.

    Beschreibung / Inhaltsverzeichnis: Polymers of low rel. mol. mass (liquid polymers) were prepared, which are compatible with polyester resins and also capable of reacting with the silanol groups of glass. Isomolecular α, ω-dicarbanionic polyenes were synthesized and terminated by the addition of alkoxychlorosilanes. In order to elucidate the structures obtained, model compounds, namely derived from natural terpenoids were prepared.
    Notizen: Nous avons effectué la synthèse de polymères à bas masses moléculaires rélatives  -  polymères liquides  -  susceptibles d'une part d'être compatibles avec des résines polyester et d'autre part de pouvoir effectuer des liaisons chimiques avec les structures silanols libres du verre. Pour cela, nous avons préparé des polydiènes α,ω-dicarbanioniques isomoléculaires et nous avons ensuite effectué la réaction de terminaison par addition d' alkoxychlorosilanes. Afin d'étudier les structures obtenues, nous avons préparé des substances modèles, notamment à partir de terpénoïdes naturels.

    Notizen: A treatment involving formaldehyde, a reducing agent, and a boron-containing compound of a wool shag carpet imparted to it a flame-retardancy effect that was effective after the seventh but not the eighth shampoo. This treatment also decreased the concentration of carbon monoxide and hydrocyanic acid generated in the products of combustion by at least a factor of 2. Analogous treatment of a wool flannel fabric produced a 15-22% sample area shrinkage and imparted a flame-retardancy effect that was still effective after a 2-hr cold water rinse.

    Notizen: The monofunctional acetylenes, phenylacetylene and m-ethynyltoluene, were each copolymerized with diethynylbenzene in a 1:1 mole ratio by using TiCl4/3AlEt2Cl as cyclotrimerization catalyst. The aromatic polymers which were produced were polydisperse with a molecular weight of ∼10,000. Variation of catalyst concentration had no effect on the molecular weight profile. An excess of bifunctional acetylene produced some insoluble gel but when some of the monofunctional acetylene was withheld and added only after an initial molecular weight build-up by the excess bifunctional acetylene, soluble polymers with molecular weights of approximately 50,000 were obtained in high yield, provided the overall ratio of mono- to bifunctional acetylene was maintained at 1:1. The resulting polyphenylenes were highly soluble in benzene and chlorinated solvents but gave brittle films. This was attributed to a highly branched structure resulting from a lack of specificity by the catalyst. Thermogravimetric analysis showed the polymers to have high thermal stability.
