Notes: [Auszug] Two experiments were conducted. White Leghorn chickens of cross 15x7 with maternal MDV antibody were either thymectomised (TX) or TX and treated with cyclophosphamide (CY, Cytoxan, Mead Johnson Laboratories, Evansville, Indiana) at hatching. These and appropriate control groups were raised in ...

Notes: Abstract The bromination of crotonic acid by N-bromosuccinimide (NBS) is first order with respect to crotonic acid and zero order with respect toNBS and the rate of the reaction changes linearly with hydrogen ion concentration. The thermodynamic parameters have also been calculated.

Description / Table of Contents: Zusammenfassung Es wurden 1∶1∶1-Komplexe von Lanthaniden [Ln(III)] mit Nitrilotriessigsäure (NTA) und 2-Hydroxy-2,4,6-cycloheptatrien-1-on (Tropolon;TR) als gemischte Liganden potentiometrisch in 50% (v/v) wäßr.
Notes: Abstract 1↮1↮1 mixed ligand complexes of lanthanones with nitrilotriacetic acid (NTA) and 2-hydroxy-2,4,6-cycloheptatrien-1-one (tropolone:TR) have been studied potentiometrically in 50% (v/v) aq. dioxane medium at μ≅0.1M-NaClO4 at 30±1°C. For these systems, complexation of primary ligand (NTA) with lanthanones is complete before complexation withTR takes place. The formation constants have been calculated by a weighted least squares method. The results show thatNTA andTR are incompatible ligands towards lanthanones and hence the mixed ligand complexes formed have lower stability than either of the parent complexes.

Notes: Abstract A uniform electromagnetic wave of high power density, propagating in a collisional plasma gives rise to a modification in temperature-dependent collision frequency and in turn induces a gradient in the complex refractive index of the medium. A WKB solution of the problem predicts a backward propagating wave on account of the self-induced inhomogeneity. The amplitude of the backward (i.e. reflected) wave increases with increasing power density of the wave. This is a volume nonlinear effect and is appreciable for usually employed power densities.

Notes: Abstract On the basis of a nonlinear kinetic equation for a moderately dense system of hard spheres and disks it is shown that shear and normal stresses in a steady-state, uniform shear flow contain singular contributions of the form ¦X¦3/2 for hard spheres, or ¦X¦ log ¦X¦ for hard disks. HereX is proportional to the velocity gradient in the shear flow. The origin of these terms is closely related to the hydrodynamic tails t−d/2 in the current-current correlation functions. These results also imply that a nonlinear shear viscosity exists in two-dimensional systems. An extensive discussion is given on the range ofX values where the present theory can be applied, and numerical estimates of the effects are given for typical circumstances in laboratory and computer experiments.

Notes: Abstract An analysis of controlled ventilation, based on a linear, 1st-order model of the respiratory system has been performed. Different pressure waveforms are used as the driving source for the model of the ventilator. The respiratory system is represented by an electrical-circuit analogue with parameters that are representative of an adult patient. Optimal parameter settings for the ventilator are predicted, which would minimise the deleterious side effects of positive-pressure ventilation and constrain the ventilatory work done on the patient within the permissible limit. The system constraints are included through an exterior penalty factor and a nonlinear optimisation technique is used. The optimal input-pressure waveform is decided on the basis of the average and peak values of the alveolar pressures and the inspiratory time period.
